Semeru, Bayan, Senaru, Bayan, Kabupaten Lombok Utara, Nusa Tenggara Bar. 83354, Indonesia, Lombok
Mountainous national park & trekking area with a campground, guided hikes & striking panoramas.
Amazing hike, but not easy!
Really an awesome place of nature. But there is so much trash especially plastic around the whole park no one takes care. The entrance fee of hundreds of people every day should be enough to take care of that problem.
It has been 3 years since our last "serious" volcano trek, so we knew we would suffer. Well, it was hell, especially the part before the summit (the "E"path. Is it worth the pain? A 1000 times. We were lucky to have great weather, no wind, so conditions were optimal, we did great pictures, our guides Fatan and Heri and our porter Cana, are Supermen, supercool, and super cool. This park is a national treasure, and Indonesians are so lucky to have such beauty at home. That brings me to the second part of the review, which is the trash problem. Although there are rules and systems telling people to bring back their trash (which some dutifully do, like our guides ), there are countless others who dont give a sh_t about it. Every campsite has mounts of trashes spread around. You cant walk without seeing plastic cups here and there. The lake campsite is especially bad, with the edges of water littered with plastic half burnt (cup noodles, plastic glass, wrapping). There is not a single spot along the trek, that is pristine. Why cant there be some rangers, stationed on site, to enforce that people keep the area clean? We hear that some people are banned because they dont being back their trash , but for 10 people that are banned, you have 1000 people who escape .When we were at the lake, the tent beside us was roasting fishes on some fire lit with plastic trash. Of course the black smoke was blowing in our direction. Nobody seem to care. Its a national treasure, a world unique park . People who throw any trash should be ashamed of doing so.Well, my anger is that big because its such a splendid wild site, with views that you cant have anywhere else in the world. My eyes are watering when I think about this carpet of clouds lingering below the summit, or the mist covering the surrounding peaks and suddenly disappearing at the Sembalun camp site when its sunset. All this pain in my legs are forgotten. Only great pictures and memories are remembered.
Such a great experience#BudayakanPriaBerdaster
This is not an easy hike, dont take it lightly!Yes, you have a guide as its mandatory (even though I dont think someone will stop you if you want to go alone, compared to Batur or other mountains in Indonesiabut he will not carry you down the mountain, not does anyone warn you how demanding this hike is.Keep in mind that you climb and descent 2700 m in more or less 24 hours and that above 3000 m the lack of oxygen will get to you. The last hundred meters are a mental battle as you ascent really slowly, one step at a time.We were the fastest group that morning and we could see everyone struggling and only few people reaching the top. Had it been a windy day Im pretty sure we would have turned back as we werent properly equiped, the temperature easily gets below 0 and nobody warns you about this (its pretty obvious given the altitude but weve seen people that have never hiked before so I thought it was worth mentioning).Warnings aside, the mountain is very beautiful and the view from the top breathtaking.Unfortunately it is full of trash, Ive never seen so much trash on a mountain and the guides and porters keep saying that it the locals people fault. However, they dont do anything to clean the place and Im afraid they also contribute, even if they claim they take all the trash down. Its such a shame that such an amazing place visited by so many tourists, both local and foreigners is in such bad shape. Also, the tour companies charge a fortune for what they offer and I really wish there was a way that the money we pay be used to conserve this beautiful natural park.
A really beautiful hike on a amazing trail. This should be in the list of mountains to hike for every serious hiker. Went there in August which is dry season. The ground is dry and some parts are quite loose and slippery. It is definitely colder during dry season so be prepared to stay warm at base camp and crater rim campsite.
Amazing view and scenary. I accend via sembalun and decent via Torean. Very challenging hike. One big homework for TNGR is to manage and control plastic waste and human waste in the Palawangan basecamp and Segara Anak.
The most Amazing experience. It was a tough climb for me but extremely rewarding. Words and pictures cannot express the beauty of the place. Having my evening meal above the clouds at 2600mts will be a memory forever. If Rinjani is on your mind do not hesitate to do it. Its a life experience that you will never forget.
Amazing and beautiful place..Need lot effort to get summit.Hope when baby Ana grow up come here again with all her sisters 💕Hiking here with Baby Ana and mommy August 2022.From Sembalun and down to Torean.4 days 3 nights. Thanks to God save me and my family.Get to the top at 11 am, cloudy above the top.But clearly below. So we can get good spot. When way down, the mist is up to make condition cool.Alhamdulillah
Amazing volcano! It’s really hard to get up there, but if you are strong enough well worth the climb! Book through one of the many agencies to have the help of a guide and porters.
Such a beautiful place with some quite difficult hiking. The view from the summit was so rewarding after a grueling and technical ascent. Please do your research into which company you use and make sure they follow the "leave no trace" approach as there is an obvious problem with litter. The amount of trash is hearbreaking and if the current trend continues this wiĺl no longer be a tourist destination.
Torean Trail.. a new track from Danau Segara Anak to Torean village.. a 7 hour tracking with beautiful sceneries! 😍
The registration officer in Sembalun (Pak Taufikis professional and much helpful. My ticket was error for barecode scanning and insist to get it fixed before continue but he managed to get assistance from the other department to recreate account.Garbage is everywhere!
Absolutely beautiful and comically difficult to summit. Really the only downsides are watching the porters heroically carrying 30+kg loads on wooden planks in their shoulders while making sub-minimum wages and the sheer amount of rubbish and toilet paper left behind by visitors. Please bring warm clothes and your sleeping bag to the summit, pack out your trash and tip your guide and porters generously (they deserve it!)
Climbing the second highest volcano in Indonesia was unforgettable experience, an epic view from the top like a dream come true... Just cant say any word about it... 😭😭😭
Loved my hike! Beautiful trails..Unfortunately some campsite are dirty with trashes, like Segara Anakan Lake.. too bad!
Came from Sembalun track, and through Torean track are the best
Great experience ever one of the crazy trek Ive done in my life..please read carefully before you plan to go. Not easy not impossible either.
A place you have to visit once in your lifetime. Mother earth creation never cease to amaze me!
Be careful and prepared before climbing the mountain. Definitely more of a trek than a hike. Takes a day to get to the top with proper rests in between.
As always, view of this mountain are so beautiful, this is my 4th time riding my mountain bike with some friends. It took us about 5 or 6 km away going uphill, and the fun begin when we started downhill in the other side of the track, and its about 10 km away. Passing through 3 forest and wide savana. Awesome!
Majestic mountain, scenic view via Senaru and Sembalun. Worth the effort to summit. I was so lucky, hiking Rinjani during pandemic. It was empty, good weather, full moon. Couldnt describe the gratitude of the Great summit! Beautiful beyond measure.
Im so gratefully for this journey in TNGR. Honestly its make me really full of tired, but its life, someday, somewhere, sometimes we need sacrifice our self.. nice mountain for hiking, beautiful panorama and most of people nice n kindly
The hike to the rim is worth the effort, not necessarily hard, but just long since you have to climb 2000 meters up from the starting point in Senaru. Plan 6 hours for going up and 4 hours for going down and take lots of water if you want to do it by yourself.Alternatively you can book a tour with an overnight stay at the summit.Bring warm cloth then since it is gonna be cold during night. Prices force there 1n2d tour should be somewhere between 1.2 and 1.5 million including guides, food, and accommodation in a tent at the summit.
Probably the most challenging hiking I have ever done in my life. Due to the Earthquake happened in 2018, the trail to the summit is closed for repair. Currently you can only hike up the the crater rim. I would definitely recommend any natural lover to vist this national part. But make sure you are physically fit.
One of the most complex terrain / trek in one mountain. You will have savanna, forrest, sand, small stones and dust. The current condition (Nov 2019not too good. There was long draught without enough rain to the vegetation. Moreover, after the Lombok earthquake, there are so many collapsed tracks and dangerous sections. Bridges are broken down. It was getting worse due to fire bush in several area. Hopefully she will recover soon. The government should take care of the public facility such as water station, bridges, shelters, toilets etc. in order to attract more visitors. Not to forget the un-recycleable waste.
This was amazing. The Rinjani is an easy to reach volcano. With 2000m up to the rim at about 2700m, with 10km, it takes only 2 days for such a beautiful place. Surrounded by the ocean, the view is amazing, with top of the class sunset/sunrise. The volcano by itself is magical, with the new volcano inside with the lake, and the summit above them. A must if you visit in Lombok.
Favorite part of my trip through Indonesia by far. The challenging climb to the top is easily worth it for the spectacular view (do not recommend unless you have similar hiking experience ~2000m climb). In dry season the path is full of loose dirt and recommend shoes with good grip.
Beautiful mountain, the landscape of the route mostly consist of grassy plain. The temperature on the mountain is high, so its better to bring additional water. There are highly amount of monkeys on the camping site, therefore its better to bring a porter or guide to keep safe your tent while trying summit.
The place really awesome. We started the summit from Timba Nuh gate, and it really nice. You can saw tropical forest and the savana on the way tonthe top.
It is not an easy trek, it is actually hard. But you make several stops to catch your breath. There are 4 stops until the camp area. When you reach to the crater rim, you will understand that it is definitely worth it. You will be at an altitude of 2700 metres. Dont forget to take jacket and hat with you. There is a very strong wind. I couldnt sleep because of that. But who cares? You are above the clouds! The trekking companies serve you very good. We climbed with Hajar Trekking. I can really recommend these guys. Descending is faster but more exhausting. I cant feel my legs and feet. I think I dont want to see any ramp for the rest of my life. And I wont stand for one week, I will lay on the beach and have foot massage everyday.
When I visited in may 2019 the only hiking route open was from senaru to the crater rim. Its amazing and definitely worth it. Because of the earthquake the rest of the hike is not yet open but I believe it plans to open by the end of 2019 if not sooner. Sunrise and sunset are both equally beautiful with 360 views of the summit, gillis and mt agung. The highlight of lombok for me.
Absolutely stunning! Is a hard trek but if you love to walk and want to see an amazing volcano at the top then this is your way to go. We did it in one journey, the most common thing is two or three. Organised tours bring to much stuff up there, some of them do not pick the garbage which is a pitth.
Amazing experience and hike. Medium difficulty trek, true jungle and a bit of a climb at the end! A local guide will walk you to the top. Impossible at present to climb to the very top (3700mbecause not considered safe but its possible to hike up to 3200m and still see the lake and the volcano!
Went to Rinjani via Aik Berik. The climb was tough, but worth it.Since the earth quake hit Lombok, Aik Berik is the only way you can get to see the Segara Anak Lake. There are two destinations; Pelawangan Aik Berik and Kondo Peak.We hired a porter and a guide, and they were trustworthy, especially the guide. He helped us get through the slippery to the steepy track. We didnt go to Kondo Peak due to the lack of water. The guide said that there were no springs along the way to Kondo. Instead, we went to Pelawangan. We camped on the third base, and start to summit in the next morning. There were many springs along the way to Pelawangan, but you wont find any after the fourth base.As I said, the climb was tough. But it was worth it, since the views were mesmerizing.
Rinjani was an awesome experience! Warm & friendly locals to stunning vistas, great food and wonderful memories! Highly recommend the hiking company we went with Lombok Trekker! Their emphasis on safety and camping gear as well as great guides & porters made us feel safe and comfortable throughout the climb.
2 weeks before the earthquakes i went to Rinjani. The view is amazing.. the trekking is challenging but its worth for the sunrise and the sunset.. so beautiful
The Mount Rinjani trek is 100% worth the time and effort to complete. The ascent and descent are undoubtedly difficult, dont go with the intention of finding it easy because youll be fooling yourself. Id say taking hiking poles are essential to getting to the top personally, the weather can get treacherous up there. If Id recommend just 1 tip it would be to bandage tape your little toe and big toe up to help the rubbing against the inside of your shoe. This should help alleviate the pain and blisters. The sense of achievement from completing this epic hike is out of this world.. I was the only one out of my group of 10 to complete it, because of the strong winds.. mind over matter and youll get there. Good luck!!
Beautiful scenery. We were there in late June. Luckily no rain during this period. Need to avoid their Hari Raya Aidilfitri period when it is very crowded. The climb is very tough but worth it, scenery from summit is superb. I did the 3 days 2 nites climb. The guides are friendly too. Will come back again if there is a chance.
If you would like to challenge your body and mind... Please list thr mountain in your hiking. Its as difficult as everyone claims to be.Tips to survive. Please wear face mask, way too dusty and you can fall sick afterwardsSlow and steady pace. Dont rush and towards the summit, u may count your steps and have a break. You still prone to have mountain sickness. Drink a lot ;pee a lot. Keep up your hydration.Do bring snacks, you will realize KitKat taste better..Do bring two walking sticks. You ll thank them.Train well before you go to Mount Rinjani. Certainly not for beginners.
If you dont have proper hiking gear or warm clothing, please do not go. I am avid hiker and this was a challenge even with proper gear. Cold nights. Sleeping on the rocky mountain ground in a tent. Early morning. Long days of treking. But... if you have everything... Go for it! The landscape is beautiful but there is a lot of trash everywhere.
Rinjani Mountain is the second highest Volcano in Indonesia with 3726 m asl. This Volcano is one the most challenging trekking side for natural lovers and provides a beautiful lake with a new volcano appear in the middle of it.There are 2 common starting point for trekking in Rinjani.First,Senaru in north side along trekk will passed by rain forest.Second,Sembalun in east side, its dominated by savanna.
It is an amazing place where you can see magnificent landscape. However, there are too many trash everywhere, which seems no one governs this national park and protects this environment well.
Mount Rinjani is amazing! The guides are friendly and helpful. However, I would not recommend the hike for beginners because getting to the summit is challenging due to the unstable sandy path.
Rinjani Park is nature in its best. Be ready for some epic effort as the climb to the top is not for the faint hearted! We did the 4 days 3 nights option with trekking down the to the lake and up to the caldera on the other side after scaling the Rinjani peak. Would have been more enjoyable to do an express trek to the top and back which is doable in 2 days and 1 night! Then chill in Lombok or the Gillis:)
Took me about 5 hours hike up to summit from the camp. The last stretch to the summit is 2 steps up and 1 step down. It feels like it is taking forever to reach to the top.Although I didnt make it before the sunrise, but Im satisfied. Youll be able to see Mount. Agong from the peak and the view of the crater lake is just simply beautiful...
We did the 3 days,2 night trail from Sambalun. It was a tough but amazing hike! The views are amazing and the trail is challenging but such an experience! They should however do sonethin g about the litter; its everywhere around you (sigarets, plastic bottles etc. )...since the tourism in this place is increasing they should make more rules and instruct the local people and tourist more about how to cope with your own waste....
This extravaganza spot is not a joke, you need to be really prepared for this trekk, it constant hike up till 2600MASL. If you just want to try be ready to give up. But all those effort is paid once you reach the top. Stunning view of sunrise as well as sunset. The porter doing their best job, brought your tent cook your meal theyre amazing
Beautiful area. Day 2 of the 3 day hike is steep but well worth the effort to reach the peak of rinjani. Bring gloves and warm clothes its cold at the top. Hot springs are nice (though small and often crowded), lake is cold but you can go fishing or swimmib if you dare.
The land that time forgot.Fantastic views. Amazing hot springs in waterfall area. Would have been 5 stars apart from the trash that is left by non aware people.
