Beautiful State Park tucked into a cozy semi-rural setting. Wonderful, extensive hiking trails and lovely small campground. Native American earthworks structures. The flora diversity is astounding.

Mounds is a great state park. In high school cross country we used to come here regularly to run the trails. Pretty good camping for families and large groups. Great loops around the trails.

Very, very nice park. Spacious spots. Mature trees everywhere! (several do need cut as they are not good for tall tts, 5ths, etcWe visited friends staying there. Beautiful and lots of trails. No sewer but they have dump stations. Very nice, paved windy roads back to the campground. Would definitely recommend!

This is one of our familys favorite state parks. It has easy trails for even young children, more challenging/rugged trails for others, and great buildings and exhibits. The scenery and setting are gorgeous, and we enjoy visiting during all seasons.

We stayed at Mounds with our travel trailer while visiting our son at Ball State. This was the perfect spot!Amenities were clean , trails and green space were beautiful ! Camp staff were helpful and welcoming . The sites were asphalt and grass and most are level , with some pull throughs backing up to the trails .Highly recommend this state park- we will be back !

A lot like the abandoned factories in Anderson. Nobody really knows for certain why they were built in the first place, but it is clear they are no longer of use. Its good that these are being preserved so that future generations can realize that anything built in Anderson is eventually abandoned. Clearly the mounds are the greatest and oldest abandoned structures in this wasteland.

Loved seeing the great mound. However, I disagree with what it was. I believe it was once a round or circular castle with a moat surrounding it. Compare with images of castles with moats! Nice play ground for children! I especially loved the tour of the Bonnenburg homestead! ❤ 🏰

Great campground! The restroom was clean. (Though the cleaning hours were kind of inconvenient 9:30-10:30 when we were there).Firewood was stocked at the host and campground entrances. Sites were large and a lot of them had shade at some point in the day.Trails are nice and theres plenty of space around the rest of the park.

The park is so beautifully preserved. Not only does it encompass the pioneer life, but also the first nation people and their legacy left on the land. A huge advocate of Indiana state parks and this one did not disappoint. All of the picnic areas were easily accessible, the trails are comfortably and clearly marked. Many of the trails or walking areas were also accessible to those with mobility issues.

A really nice State Park. So glad to have one close enough that it makes sense to get a season pass. Its really nice to get away from the hustle and bustle to experience the sites, sounds and smells of nature. Their paths are usually nice and clear and you never pass an unfriendly person.

Came for a birthday party at one of the shelters. Shelter was nice. Nice to have a play ground and a water spigot near by. Bathrooms weren’t too far away either. Have to bring your own trash can. And the pool wasn’t open. ☹️The lady at the shack was nice and told us a regular made the scrabble name tags for them when I asked. Nice visit

This is a smaller park, so camping at night you can hear some of the noise from Anderson traffic and see the lights from the small airport behind the camp area, but it is well maintained with some very nice hiking trails. Our Scouts had a blast on their night hike.

What an interesting, beautiful state park. The main Aden/Hopewell mound is one-of-a-kind. You can feel the 2000 year old presence of these amazingly intelligent, creative and industrious people. We should have paid more attention to them. The trails are wonderfully maintained and very beautiful: Indiana forest at its very best.

Mounds is a beautiful state park. It has a swimming pool open during the summer, multiple play areas, a camping site, plenty of trails for walking and sort of hiking. The nature center is clean and well kept with an area to view local wildlife. The shelters are available to be reserved and meet a variety of needs. The sacred mounds are a site of their own. This park has a lot of history and is a great place to explore as a family or alone.

Short version: unless you are going for a walk, or talking pictures in the fall, I’d go to another state park over this one. This is a very unique place that can be fun if you either just want to go for a walk through nature or perhaps have already seen many of the other wonderful state parks around Indiana. The reason I gave this 3 stars is due to the lack of interesting sights. The mounds are just as interesting to read about as they are to see and it’s not very interesting at that. While it’s not perfect, the main trail goes by a lovely stream that blows a cool breeze in the summer and the trees are lovely in the fall for stunning family photos or portrait sessions. The trails are well maintained and loop back in a short easy to follow path. Be sure to pick up a map from the nature center!

We try to visit Mounds every year. We spent the day hiking if you have too much trouble climbing up and down steps or rough terrain this may be too much for you but they have several areas that are ok for every. The park has 4 mounds 3 are close together. We walked out on the observation deck of the great mound which lets you see the roundness better. I love the sounds, sights and colors of nature in this park. Squirrels and chipmunk running, playing, jumping and climbing trees and eating nuts. No underfed wildlife in this park. If you are there at near sunset you may see several deer. Mounds has picnic areas, shelters, playgrounds, benches along trails(much neededthey have events for everyone. We saw people taking pictures, reading their book in a quit area, runners and several people walking their dogs. Mounds has something for all ages. They also have camping. It is a great place for a family outing.

This park has good amenities for young children, including a nature center, easy trails close to parking, and a playground. Their playground could use some updates but my 2.5 year old was still able to play and have a great time. The playground was shaded during the summer and early fall when we were there, making it a great option on a warm day but beware it may be damp if you go in the morning. They had recently redone the walking path near the great mound and it all looked great. My kids loved the nature center and all the animals they were able to see up close. Hoping to go back for programming at the park.

There arent a whole lot of places to camp in central Indiana, and Ive historically taken the family to Brookville or Brown County. This park has great short hikes through the woods, and the campground is relatively peaceful. My only complaint is that if youre tent camping the sound of the nearby train blasting its horn all night will definitely keep you awake 🚂🎺😮

Really nice State Park. $7 per car, unless you have a State Parks pass. Lots of trails that cross each other so that you can meander many ways. The trails are mostly gravel pack, some are dirt, and one has asphalt. The trails are wide and well maintained. Several have stairs that make valley access easier. Really nice nature center.

The mounds make this park a unique place and worth a visit! It’s very small compared to other Indiana state parks that I’ve been to, but it has one of the best nature centers. There’s also a historic home that was fun to see. If you’re looking for short hikes or if you are interested in Native American history, this is a good place to visit. There’s also access to the White River.

A very nice but small state park. Easy hiking along with a comfortable and level campground. A couple of things that makes the campground interesting, #1 a couple of trailheads either start in the campground or close to it. #2 the campground is right next to a small local airport. Also, the Great Mound is an interesting piece of history.

Its just a nice simple state park. Plenty of trails to walk. Some historic buildings and native american sites. A campground. Areas the play, etc. There is also a nature center. We went on an October Tuesday at about 10am and it was not busy. The hikes are nice enough that we try to go at least once a month.

Im in the Alexandria Comunity Band and we played a fourth of July concert at woodland shelter. We were assisted on one song by a park ranger playing the cowbell. It was a great place to play and we felt welcomed by the park. Lots of fun and not a bad crowd either.

Totally surprised to see the number of people at Mounds Park, some not practicing social distancing, while many others played it safe, with the COVID-19 restrictions lifting a little bit.The trail was great, our dog had a blast and it was his first time going out to a public park.Definitely a spot Ill visit more and recommend others do so also. Trails, fishing, swimming, hiking, camping - Mounds is great.

(I go to state parks to hike so that is the basis of my review.A small park with easy trails. The entire park can be hiked in half a day. Im glad this area has been preserved, but its not especially interesting to visit. The trails are basically just walking in the woods so go elsewhere if you are looking for real hiking. The best section is along the White River. A good place for people who want to be in nature without having to take a trip to REI to get outfitted. Its nice that the restrooms/nature center is in the middle of the park so you can use the restroom while hiking instead of having to go along the trail, like you do at so many of the Indiana state parks. Note that even though the nature center closes at 4pm, the restrooms remain open when the park is open & can be accessed through the door on the side of the building next to the Coke machine.Signage on the trails is very poor so be sure to take a map and/or use a tracking app.

This is a beautiful park! Although Mounds is super close to my home Id never been there before today. I guess I didnt realize what a cool place it is. The trails and facilities are really well kept and they are plenty of sign boards that explain the Mounds and the history of the park. The only down side was the price, which was $7 per car load. Since it was just me and my dog it was a bit steep, but now that I know what a gorgeous place it is Ill see about a yearly pass. My dog and I spent about three and a half hours exploring the woods and theres still a lot more to see! Well absolutely be back soon.

Great State Park experience. Nice visitors center with displays and animals that will satisfy kids and adults alike. Clean bathrooms and a small gift shop. Each employee we encountered was helpful and friendly. There are a variety of shorter trails with a variety of difficulties. A nice shaded playground area is available in the northern section. The south is dominated by the amazing earthworks. The only thing I would suggest is some sort of signs directing you to the various trailheads. Once in the woods, the trails are sort of all jumbled close together, but if you can read a basic map, you wont have any trouble. A lot of the trails close to the mounds were flooded, or had large mud swamps to traverse. Especially in front of the information sign by the Great Mound. It seems like this park doesnt get a lot of state funding for outdoor upkeep, unfortunately, because the trails and fencing all are in need of repair.

Loved camping here. There is an airport right next to it and you can hear the planes but didnt effect our camping experience. Cool trails and the grounds are kept up wonderfully. Short hike to the river. Bathrooms could use some good vacuuming to get rid of cobwebs and spiders and some new shower curtains are needed but over all we are planning to go again. In fact, we will make it a yearly trip if we can. And its in good location to get to the casino. Staff is very friendly and camping spots are quite large. At least ours were. Wonderful place to stay. Dump station is easily accessed when leaving and there are places to fill your fresh water before getting to your spot. Loved our stay!

This park is a great place for a field trip. Kelly and Riley, our DNR interpreters, were very knowledgeable and kept the attention of kids of all ages. We took four classes, Pioneer Life, Ecosystems, Archeology, and River Exploration. Located along the White River, they have ancient Adena Hopewell mounds and a nice, clean nature center. It was well worth the drive.
