Motherwell Homestead National Historic Site - Tourist attraction in Meadow Lake, Canada
Spent a wonderful afternoon there with the family. Lots to see and learn and our toddler loved it!
Hidden gem
Long drive (from Reginajust to see an old farm. If youre in the area already worth a stop by.
Very good displays, the guides are very knowledgeable, and its facilities are well maintained and equipped for handicapped people.
Beautiful place with fantastic tour guides, vast knoedge, and friendly atmosphere for all ages
Friendly and knowledgeable staff.Great place to explore a pioneer farm.
Very well kept historical farm with enthusiastic guides. This would have been an upscale farm - not your average farm.Quite a ways from a major highway. Secondary highways were very rough! (In June 2022)
Great historical spot in the middle of the prairies. The tour guides were fantastic and it was only the first day of the season! The elementary school group I went with fully enjoyed it.
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Motherwell Homestead this Family Day week.. The Homestead and FHQ Tribal Council employees were wonderful and made so much fun for us, adults, and the kids. The scavenger hunt and fun educational tasks like fire building, the confidence/trilling run challenge, horse sled pull, traditional singing, snow art, etc. It was excellent for all the family! Thank you so much from the Grainger family!
Very interesting and informative
It was a great time. We had a great tour guide.
Had a wonderful visit.
Closed on May 1, 2021 with no notice as to when it will be open for visiting again. A federal funded site should be better managed.
Amazing place to visit, lots of historical buildings, and a lot of my family history there.
Much less going on than previous year, which is to be expected.
Great afternoon spent hereReally peaceful, horses, sheep and cows to pet.And thèŕè are mobility scooters for those who cant ģèt around
Interesting piece of history. Tour guide was fantastic and very knowledgeable!
Normally great but with all the restrictions you cant go in any of the buildings, was disappointed and not worth the price of admission
Amazing... This historic site is fantastic. Been there many times with friends, family and numerous exchange students and it never fails to make for a great day.
Beautiful site. Informational, exciting, interesting. Great staff. Annual RSO event outstanding. Great for the entire family.
Great bit of farm life heritage! Love the fresh-baked cookies & bread with preserves made there in the house.
Great historic place. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable.
Fantastic! There were several workers, dressed in period costumes. There were a number of childrens activities, including a treasure hunt, a tug of war, hoops, and wooden horses. They had just made biscuits and butter, and they had rhubarb on the stove. They took the horses out to pick stones, and later to spread manure. We petted the cow and her calf, and checked the chickens. We all had a turn pumping water. Also, there was a beautiful playground and picnic area, as well as a small restaurant.
So interesting. A lovely old stone house. Staff in period costumes shared information of the people who lived and worked there. Biscuits and rose jelly were tasty.
Well maintained farm and house located in spectacular landscapes
Very well persevered histotical site. The interpretive staff were very knowledgeable and played their parts like we were part of their family.
May as well check is out if youre in the areaPretty neat
Not very much to see. But unique and clean, except the barn. and my kids like the playground and the barn.
Mr. Motherwell was the first Minister of Agriculture for the Province of Saskatchewan, and this site does an excellent job of recreating the condition of his homestead at this time. If you want an educational experience that is also entertaining, I recommend coming here. The trip from Regina is worth it.
Wonderful place to visit!! Wheelchair accessable and accessible to everyone as they have scooters. Would highly recommend adding Motherwell to your summer holidays!
Great place to see horses and sheep and pigs so city kids and grownups get a taste of farm life. Be careful of large gopher holes and cow and horse dung.
Always love going there. National Park as well.
An amazing place with a beautifully well kept house, barn and grounds!
Worthwhile visit to homestead of an agricultural pioneer, advocate, and legislator. Stone house with original or period furniture and decor. Interpretive Centre with small restaurant. Learned much from guides.
Very nice friendly staff and great knowledge of museum
It was a nice afternoon for the kids. Animals and plenty to see and do. Thanks for the great time.
Loved it, what a step back in time! Hats off to the elderly ladies!
Absolutely loved being there.
Great historical site. Kids liked picki g eggs and grinding grain.
A great way to go back in time! The restaurant is also very good
Superbly maintained farmstead, you quickly realize why this place has national significance! Great staff and working 1912 era farm was a family treat, but skip the cafeteria... seriously cooking class flop they should not be billing for.
It was a great place to take our young children. They had lots of activities that were interesting to them and it was about a three hour tour so they didnt get bored.
They staff were in period costume. They had activities for the children and kept them entertained. An excellent experience. A great place to bring your children.
Totally awesome spot! Im a city kid so I dont know much about agriculture and such but even with that this is still a really cool spot! Lots of heritage here! The staff were all dressed up in period costumes and they are all so knowledgeable! Fantastic place! Live animals! Love workers! Its almost like going back in time!
Beautiful homestead, great staff and fun place to visit.
An interesting piece of Canadian agricultural history. Glad we stopped in. We especially enjoyed the tour of the house.
This homesteader knew what he was doing and he did it well. Mr Motherwell had class and its a great place to check out
Very interesting location and the tour was great!
Interesting spot where they try to give you an idea of what farming was like here 100+ years ago. Try to go for one of the special events. The interpreters add a lot to the experience.
Visited on a Sunday, the site was hosting a Brunch type meal. This site is somewhat isolated some 2 or 3 km to the south of Abernethy along a country type road, not as shown on Google Maps, so be warned. The site is not just a Homestead site, in fact its more a tribute to William Richard Motherwell Saskatchewans first minister of agriculture and federal minister of agriculture for the Mackenzie King government, the site mostly commemorates his life and achievements, although through this also depicts the farming methods in use during this time. Not really a tourist site more an educational one, lots of families with children there and looked as though they were enjoying themselves, some animals and buildings of the era. The site does give an idea of the isolation of the farms of that time.I cannot recommend a specific trip to this site, but if you are passing or in the area, and have a Parks Canada pass, it is worth a look.
