Big hilltop monument with scenic views of the city honoring heroes of the Dominican Restoration War.
Great place, beautiful viewsGo and see the sunset and wait for the lights of the monument to turn on
Such a beautiful place, with amazing views, showing the heritage and history of Dominican Republic... But the place also has garbage all around in the top of the monument stairs and littered garbage all around. Some of the statues name plates are damaged and the large stone letters are destroyed. So disappointing that its not taken cared off properly and its such a beautiful place.
Awesome historical place
My hometown prefer to visit the city that I was born instead of f going to others places I love Santiago
Very nice to spend time with family.
Awesome place to hang out and chat with someone.
Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration. Beautiful place to go for a walk with the family and appreciate the view of the city.
First time going to the monument, its a really nice structure. At night you see alot of people hanging out.
Beautiful historic site in santiago Dominican Republic.
Always happy to visit places like these. As being a native Dominican, I truly appreciate the history and the connection it brings to me to the rest of the world. It was an awesome experience and highly recommend anyone to stop by and learn or revisit.
Very cool views of Santiago. RD$100 p/p
Beautiful spot overlooking the city on Santiago. A must stop for visitors, a landmark for R.D. history! 🇩🇴
A must visit spot for first timers. You can climb to the middle of the monument for 100 pesos.
The key attraction in the city. Parking nearby costs 100 pesos and there are also various restaurants and bars around.
The architecture is impressive. Walk around to the right of the structure for the entrance. Exit to your right before reaching the entrance. Come dressed in black for a spectacular photo at the grey monument.
Had a great time flying the kite we bought locally!!!
My vacation is getting a lot better than I was expected. Love every moment of it and so are my family
Really cool views. You can see all of Santiago. Unfortunately the monument was closed the day we were there so we couldnt go up on top.
Best place where you can have a great view of Santiago. Better at night. With all this bars and restaurants in the neighborhood. You can visit it with your family, a friend or your lover. Specially on weekends. You will spend a great time there!!!
So much history in one place I wish it was open again to the public on the inside. I herd you cant go in because people used to steal the bells n stuff from the things
Always beautiful to visit and remember history but it was sad to see garbage around it, much more than other times I’ve visited. Also I didn’t feel as safe as I’ve felt in the past with a few men asking for money and some very dark areas. It definitely needs more/better lighting and garbage pick up.
DR had a very turbulent history - it was switched between the Spanish and Haitian rule, and had to fight for its independence several times. This imposing monument stands proudly in the second biggest DR city.It is dedicated to victims of the Restauration war against Spain which was fought 1863-65 after Spain regained DR shortly after its first independence from Haiti.Entering the ground floor is free, while theres a couple of dollars fee to climb up. The elevator did not work, but it is a very mild climb via spiral staircase through several levels and on each is a museum, diorama and some info on that war.Once on top therere great views of entire city.
This is the simbol of the city. Must see in Santiago.Very popular area, full of bars and restaurants sll around the monument , very entertaining night life .Historic site inside the monument , beautiful view of the city from the top.
It is a very impressive architectual piece, it is worth to pay it a visit, specially at night. However, the security could be better, it is quite dark in some parts and there is no police or private security.
I did not see much of a purpose to visit. You can take a picture in front of the location sign in front. Nothing up by the monument other than empty liquor bottles everywhere
This is the one place in Santiago that can be considered a shame not to go visit if you enter the City. It has the best view of the City and the best activities around. Go up there, have a Presidente beer and enjoy the cool breeze and awesome view.
All around awesome. A must see, cant miss, historical, architectural marvel in the heart of the City of Heart. Amazing food, drink and entertainment spots in the streets around the base of the monument. Want to see breathtaking views of the city of Santiago, enjoy some frosty cold beverages and fantastic food? Go to the Monumento!
It was a good moment walking through the garden that surrounded the monument. If you want to experience a typical dominican get away, it is a nice place to enjoy with your family or your lover.Intense activity at night. There are public chairs all around and vendors offering you drinks and flowers.
Loved this place in the Dominican Republic very nice sight seeing lots of restaurants clubs bars karaoke and places to drink and hang out
Its Santiago de los Caballeros Meeting Spot, Anything will and be Celebrate here!!! Its great aphmosphere, once you here you dont want to leave!!
Good tourist sight... if going for a horse ride make sure to agree on price because they will try to charge more than they are supposed to.... i had a guy tryi g to charge 7,000 pesos($125.00us dollars approximately)when the ride was on 2,000($35 us dollars approximatelyI encourage you have a trustworthy local to avoid getting scammed...
Place was clean, easy to get there, plenty of restaurants to chose from if you hungry but over all it was nice
Loved going to this monument in Santiago. There are great restaurants around the square and lots of great statues and history around the monument as well. It is the place to stop to see in Santiago, Dominican Republic. You can also visit shopping districts and Calle del Sol that runs on one side of the monument. Be careful with people leading you on tours. They can take you for hundreds of dollars with a sad story. Be aware.
Great sight. You can see the whole city from up there. Lots of fresh air. Great place to have a picnic
I arrived after dark to enjoy the holiday lights and a fantastic view of the city! Very popular with those that like to post on their social media. Lots of great photo and selfie opportunities! There were several horse drawn carriages for those wanting to add to their memorable experience at Monument to the Heroes. When in Santiago this is a definite place to visit!
Beautiful scenery, area with many things to visit, relax, exercise.
Beautiful place to visit.. Lots of restaurants are nearby
Nice place for pictures and history. Area seems well-kept, but beware of people trying to aggressively sell you things. The Horse cart riding was super fun. They take you all around the Monument and put Bachata and Merengue Music for you♡
This place was really nice. Great gathering place for a romantic gateway. They have horse riders offering you rides and people selling flowers and beer. I indulged in both to the happiness of my girlfriend. Also a great place to take amazing photos. The loud music from peoples cars was a little annoying tho even tho its not their fault I still took out one star
Great place to do early morning workouts.Theres security there and not a lot of traffic so that makes it a plus. Best time is before sunrise about 6:30 because its November.
Great history lesson!!! Excellent view of the city. Tour guide Wilson Fleep did an amazing job showing me the city of Santiago like never before.
How spectacular. I went there at different times of the day and not once I wasnt impressed by this monument. Standing on a hill, overlooking the city of Santiago, the monument has a very austere and forceful presence. Go there for the sunset, its beautiful. In particular, I ran the Monumental Marathon and this is where the finish line is. The monument enters runners view during the last mile, and it is such an amazing experience running towards it and finishing the marathon by its foot.
Great place. The guide we spoke to was very informative about the history of the monument. The views from the top are AMAZING!
Its a good place to take a walk at. Youll see a lot of people going there, enjoying a beer, and hanging out. The view of the rest of Santiago is also breathtaking at night!
Greatest local place that a cated to the heroes of the Dominican Republic. Great place to come with the family Dan nights if you want to get the most out of the experience come during the days you can actually go up to the top of the monument and see out of the city of Santiago.
Good view of the city and got to experience the fun at night that is more lively with music food and people and during the day its calm less people but got to see more of this beautiful culture and its scholars. Meet great people on the way as well as hustlers who strive to make a living. Overall very nice. Will come back to go inside the monument and share more pictures.
Great walk with several great restaurants around the plaza. Excellent view of the city. NOTE: there is a fee to go up the monument except on the last Sunday of each month.
Lindo lugar. Familiar y con una linda vista de la ciudad y rodeado de vida nocturna, todo esto aparte de ser un monumento que honra la memoria de un grupo que dio su vida por una mejor nación!Nice place. Family friendly and with a really good view of the city and surrounded by night life, all of this on top of being a monument to honor the memories of a those who fought to restore our great nation.
This is the landmark of Santiago. No visit to the city would be complete without a stop here. You can go about halfway up, where incredible views await. Unfortunately you cannot go all the way to the top.Even if you do not plan to go up the tower, the monument is a nice gathering spot for locals.
One of the main attractions in Santiago! Make sure to walk all the way around on the sidewalk to see it from the bottom!
