Nice monument in Ruse. The initial design featured a statue of the Tsar Liberator", Alexander II on top but Ruse people decided to replace it with a statue of a woman, symbolizing freedom. One of the two bronze lions at the base is tearing the yoke chains whilst the other defends the Shield of Freedom.

The monument stands proudly in a beautiful park in a central location for touring the city of ruse. It commemorates the liberation of Bulgaria and Ruse in particular from the Ottoman yoke in 1877. The statue depicting a woman with a raised sword, faces North towards Russia from where the liberators came. It is part of the design on the city emblem

A very beautiful, modern and peaceful place. Lots of trees and fountains giving a bit of fresh during Ruse summer heat (up to 38/40 degrees!!). At night you can even hear the cricket, lovely when your room oversees the square.
