Lively, Aztec-themed chain offering Mexican staples like burritos and enchiladas, plus cocktails.
Being there several times for the pulled pork nachos, they are amazing and good portion size! The meatballs in sauce are grrat too!lovely service and waiters, waiting time is normal as they prepare food on the moment.Only thing i didnt like much were the tacos, a bit overpriced for the size and quality, do not recomment them
This is not real Mexican food, would have preferred Guzman y gomez just down the road. Our order was:3 tacos (1 beef, 2 chicken)Chicken and nachosBoth dishes were a disappointment. Dry and flavourless, nothing exciting whatsoever.I could make better tacos at home with ingredients from Woolworths.Only highlight was the drinks and the company. Will not be returning here.
We got here yesterday and the food was delicious! More than food, the service was excellent! All the girls were so lovely and smiley at all times! Took our order with utmost patience and politeness. Overall great experience!
I booked a table for 2 to celebrate my girlfriends birthday. My booking was made through quandoo where the app notified me that there was a 1.5hr limit for patrons per booking to fill the restaurant though when I arrived the restaurant was half empty.Soon as we sat down we got pushed by the waitress to order food without having the chance to look at the menu. The table we sat down wasnt cleaned properly from the previous customers. To make matter worst the table cloth from previous customers probably had some sort of spicy/chilli powder on it, which was not noticeable to naked eye and it went on my girl friends eye as she was scratching her face..She almost burst into tears from burning. When I asked the waitress to change the table cloth, her response was " are you allergic to chilli " ?? I think an apology would have been more appropriate here..The wait time for the food to arrive was ok. But they stuffed up our order. We asked for chicken Enchilada but was given chorizo. That problem was corrected but we had to wait. Doesnt help when there is a 1.5 hr time limit to eat ?Soon as the food hit the table we practically became invisible to the waitstuff as I tried to get attention few times by raising my hand and they just walked past me.In the end when I went to pay I was asked by the person at the register to **leave a tip If I wanted? **Due to lack of simple hygiene your servers managed to get chilli powder into my girl friends eye on her birthday dinner and didnt even offer an apology and then had the audacity to ask me to leave a tip ??Which planet / country do you hire people from ?NEVER AGAIN ..
Love the food specially the queso dip!! Definitely recommended but remember the portions are on the larger side and quite filling!
Constantly disappointing. Food is dry, plates are insanely hot to touch, the pepsi is always flat and they always forget something despite reading the order back. Always quick to ask for a tip though even though they know they forgot to bring items which had to be followed up twice.
The service and decor of this place is great but food is pretty average. Not very authentic compared to other Mexican restaurants (tastes like a white person made it cause it’s so blandbut on its own it’s pretty cool. Might come again for some drinks.
Horrible service, dry reheated food, drinks were boring and lacked an ounce of creativity, no attention to the customer, we weren’t even given cutlery or plates for share dishes, I had to take a napkin and cutlery from another table. Beans in the 4 dips share plate were really dry. Tomatoes sauces tasted like tomatoes blended with only water. Being from Mexico the food was almost insulting. I would give 0 stars if I could.
was very disappointed at our visit. we were expecting real mexican food given the menu but:1first they did not have the mole poblano which i initially ordered. the waitress who took our order did not know that they had no more chicken in stock. when i asked for any substitute for the chicken they simply said no, even though mole is meant to be the main star of the dish rather than the chicken2we noticed that the food were simply reheated. the plates were overly hot but the contents were not. my rice were clumpy and cold, almost as if they put it on the microwave for 1 minute whilst frozen3my wifes enchilada and tacos had beef, which looked anemic and very much browned and not spiced at all. tasting the food only confirmed our suspicions.in short, the food they prepared (or rather, not prepared but reheatedwas not worth the asking price of $20+ per main and i wouldnt recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Dined in 22nd Oct, we have eaten a lot of mexican food across the globe and this was average. Flavour was lacking in a number of areas. Spanish rice and chicken and Beef enchiladas really lacked any spice or flavour. The beans were pretty good. An addition of some salad or small amount of salsa on the side was definitely required. Walked away thinking it was okay, wont be revisiting. Decor, layout, drinks and service were all fine.
Food was very average , didn’t taste anything like a good Mexican, very plain food. The table was at 20, and the kitchen closed 20:30, drinks closed 21:00, so the night ended quickly even though it’s a 2 h sitting which made no sense at all.Wouldn’t recommend this restaurant, but lovely staff!
Gave this place 3 chances, was let down differently each time.We have visited Montezuma’s on 3 occasions throughout 2021, a few months apart. As I write this I am well aware of the pandemic and the impact it has had on businesses.Pros: it might be good to bring kids hereCons: can’t taste any spices. No fresh fruit or veg. Dated decor. Food is prepared in advance and reheated. Despite this cuisine being mexican, NOTHING IS SPICY - I don’t know if this is just what people in Crows Nest like or what. Pay extra for habanero sauce, meals are expensive too. Cocktails are okay - they are prepared well, but the drinks menu is not creative. My advice: order takeout from GYG, Gringos or Dos Senoritas and eat at home. Save your money.Montezuma’s needs to try something different, mainly in the kitchen. Perhaps they are clinging to a historic name, while their heyday is long gone.More detail below.Visit 1: It was ok, we were seated in a booth. Decor is a bit 2000s but still alright. We noticed that our chilli con carne was watery and also did not have any flavour - not spicy, no paprika, barely salted. Cocktails were okay.Visit 2: We sat by the window, outside the kitchen, near the register. A waitress took our order which included cocktails. We were waiting 60 minutes for our food before I finally got the attention of a staff member. They had missed our order. Then it took another 30 minutes to receive our food and drinks. It was not an overly busy night.Same issue with the chilli con carne: where’s the flavour? The spices? This time it was not watery, the consistency was much better. All up we were there 2 hours because they had missed our order. We were comped for 1 of our mains.Visit 3, our final visit: sat next to the bar. Ordered cocktails and 2 combo enchiladas. We asked for habanero for the chilli con carne (which comes with the enchilada comboBUT I think the waitress misheard us and instead ordered us a whole chilli con carne to share, with a side of habanero. This could have been avoided if she simply read the order back to us.Cocktails were fine. The enchiladas were again quite bland. My expectation was that there would be more fresh herbs and vegetables (tomato? onion? Coriander? Spring onion? Lime?of which none were present. The chicken in the enchilada was plain and dry, there was no sauce mixed through. I ordered a chorizo enchilada, but I was served an enchilada with (essentiallysausage roll filling - isn’t chorizo meant to be cured meat? This was minced meat formed into enchilada shape. We noticed that the plates were extremely hot - they had just come out of the oven. I understand preparing stuff in advance, but this comes across as lazy - surely an enchilada does not need to be assembled in advance? The result is that the food is reheated and the texture is ruined.
Great to be out with friends after months of Lockdown. Montezumas staff were amazing, friendly & happy to help. I had no idea what I wanted to eat, as so many choices. They recommended the Mole Poblano. It was amazing. The best Mexican I have ever had! :)
Lovely staff but terrible terrible quality food. Bathrooms were disgusting, food wasn’t served with everything listed in the menu. Beans are tasteless and dry, no flavour in the food overall. Used to love this place but it’s clearly needing to close or move into new hands.
Nice casual atmosphere. Try the signature sangria and enjoy the large range of dishes on offer. The beef tacos are out of this world, light years ahead of the takeaway tacos you find everywhere.
Went for early dinner with kids.Great margaritasGood kids menu and activity bookMeals were yum, better than I expected!Only negative was starters took 20mins plus to come out. Also had these beautiful big open fires which weren’t lit despite it being cold even in the restaurant.Would go back.
Loved the service and decor. The food is average at best though, ranking around Guzman & Gomez. We got fish tacos, a chicken burrito and chips and guac. Unfortunately the chips and dip were the only highlight.I would recommend Dos Senoritas instead in Gladesville if both locations are an option.
I was so excited to try it when I saw them for the first time so I rushed in to eat the second night. I love the decor it’s very Mexican so I was enjoying it till I realised that the staff are t welcome, very cold and lacks that Mexican vibe. The service was quiet slow too and wasn’t the best experience overall. I will probably won’t come. 3 stars is for quesadillas. The rest of food was very bland.
Ive had real Mexican food, amazing Mexican food, and now this. Hate to say it but the food was quite disappointing. My chicken combo meal was very bland and lacking flavour. The chicken really wasnt any better than wed cool at home. The beef meals were ok but nothing more than that.Felt like the meals took quite a while to arrive too but not worth the wait.My son wanted to go because of Cinco de Mayo (May 5), I guess we thought maybe there would be something to acknowledge it but nothing - in fairness maybe our mistake thinking its a thing?!Hadnt been for about 20 years and it hasnt changed much. Sadly wont be rushing back.
Poor service, lady asked if anyone wanted a drink, took one drink order and walked away. Food was ok not worth the price soggy and lacking in taste., drinks were nice but took forever to come. Had to remind them of my sour cream. Unlikely to return, would not recommend. Much better Mexican in Sydney try Flying Fajihata Sisters at Glebe.
Lovely atmosphere beautiful food...many vegan options
Montezuma’s is by far my favourite Mexican restaurant. The portions are overly generous and for the price you receive excellent meals. The service is consistently friendly and the place always has a welcoming vibe. Would definitely recommend.
Very disappointing meal. The rice was dry, the servings were small. The enchiladas looked like a bad version of aeroplane food. The sangria was weak and watery.Let’s not even address the service.Would recommend staying clear and this review is not what I like to write as it’s nice to write positive reviews.
I’ll be honest this place has great reviews but I’m not sure why. The food was salty, tasteless and soggy. I would not recommend this place. This place isn’t cheap and I feel like I just threw away money.
Coeliac, GF vegetarian, vegan... Montezumas have you covered with a hreat choice of dishes and combination meals that give you a taste of everything.
very nice mexicano restaurant. enjoyed the meals. our christmas party was really good. the service and staffs were also nice
Used to love montezuma’s when i was a kid but tbh the food is really average. The queso fundido is smooth and creamy instead of being cheesy and gooey and melty. The nachos was a soggy mess with really average flavours. The taco was sitting on a bed of lettuce which caused one side to become extremely soggy. The enchiladas was ok. I quickly remembered why I stopped coming here. Service was good.
Highly recommended. Good Mexican food. Nice atmosphere. Surprisingly easy to have a conversation even though the decor is mostly hard surface (this comment is aimed at people my age and above - 55).
I had a very good evening with great food to match. I ordered the beef enchilada and wow.. it was really good. I had pretty good Mexican in LA last year. And while I cant speak for all dishes on their menu - Montezumas enchilada was in the similar league. Cool, casual and fun Mexican theme restaurant with friendly Latino waitresses. Ill be back!
I do love montez. In respect to my experience, I think they may have changed the chicken on the combo special as it is not what I remember. I prefer the old chicken. The food was however nice, the atmosphere was lovely and staff were very friendly. I will be back and I do recommend montezumas. It is good Mexican at Australian standards (3/5). I would not however go expecting Mexican standards especially if you are Mexican.
Decent Mexican in the heart of Crows Nest. Is it worth a try? Sure. Would you write home about it? Probably not. It was good, although not the best Mexican I have ever had. Still though, great portion sizes and very hot!
Seemed like standard Mexican fare and have a separate vegetarian / vegan menu which makes ordering easier. Good atmosphere. Staff were nice but felt they could do with some more experience / training.
Man, this place is so basic. I think I would rate Taco Bell better. The staff were pleasant, but the food clearly came out of a jar or can. I didnt really have a choice in the matter because my date suggested it... Luckily she was cute at least.Seriously, though the food was bland and the salsa was watery. If you go, I suggest you stick to drinking the margaritas and for food stick to the limes in them.
False advertising. They put this sign outside on a Saturday during lunchtime. Once we sat down and ordered, we were told the $10 lunch only applies Mon-Fri. The sign does not specify this. Why would they even put the sign out on the weekend unless the lunch special applies??This is clearly false advertising on the weekend to try and get people to come in.
The Mole Poblano (roast chickenis excellent, the tacos are average.
Good food and generous portions. The ambience and atmosphere is great. Liked the enchiladas but was disappointed with the chilly verde. Slightly overpriced.
Went to Montezumas last week and was very happy we made the choice to dine in.The staff were very friendly when we arrived, even though it was very busy and we didnt make a booking , the manager was very accomodating and had a smile on her face as she showed us to our table. The waiter was just as friendly as she went through the menu and had knowledge of every meal which was very helpful. The food was very prompt and tasted delicious. Big portion sizes and lots of flavour. Margaritas were very tasty alsoGreat music and great food at a reasonable price , will definitely be back.
Really delicious food, good range of drinks and some fun specials.Corn chips and salsa aren’t free but are worth it, there’s a good range of spicy and mild items on the menu.Really cool colourful atmosphere, but in a booth it still felt private and cosy.
The food here is terrific (nicely authentic Mexicanthough the staff are a little less attentive than Id like
They have tons of options for vegetarians and vegans. The nachos were pretty good. Tostados were quite filling but lacked cheese and spicy soucy texture. Worth a try but.
Ive never been let down by the service here. The people who work here are really upbeat and so accommodating. The food it pretty good too.Come here for a bit of comfort food every now and then and I love it. The margaritas are tip top also!
Pretty good place for Mexican cuisine. Im a vegetarian and having Vegetarian/vegan options is an obvious must. Taste is great, fresh out of oven and top it up with courteous staff... A nice experience overall. And yes, a repeat place if my choice
Friendly staffs, guacamole is nice, sangria is wonderful. But the fiod just taste are average. And even has rice in meat balls!! (is it tradition?)
Ate here as a family of 4 on a Saturday night. The place was very busy and had a great atmosphere. Even though it was busy, we were served promptly and didnt have to wait long at all for our meals to be brought out.The kids loved their beef nachos and we thoroughly enjoyed our beef and chicken fajitas. The food was really fresh and hot.Dont forget to sign up to their birthday club. You get one main meal free on your birthday.
Love the ambience and decor of the restaurant! They have an extensive menu, and just one for vegetarians (very handy!and the food is authentic and tasty. Would definitely give this a try seeing as authentic Mexican food isn’t fairly common around!
Best Vegan and Vegetarian Mexican Restaurant! They give you so many delicious options and the service is fantastic! Definitely going here again!
Service was good and good was full of flavour, but bit pricey.
This place has been here since religion it seems. The food is quite good but be prepared to pay for it. Lunchtime specials is reasonable. Happy I went but I wont be back simply as I believe it is overpriced for what it is
Ive been coming to this restaurant since I was a small child and always had a great experience.Ive been coming in for lunches more frequently lately and the food is always quick, hot, very satisfying, consistent and tasty. The staff are friendly, accommodating and polite, and even remember my favourite lunch order! The atmosphere feels cozy, comfortable and authentic. If youve had a bad experience here Id urge you to give them another go because my experience has never been anything less than 4/5.
Really love this place, go here regularly because it is so much fun and the food is so amazing! Has an insane amount of options and so many vegan and vegetarian meals, absolutely recommend going here!
