300 Mts Sureste de la Escuela de Cerro Plano, Puntarenas Province, Santa Elena, Costa Rica, Canas
On a property surrounded by woodland, this relaxed hotel with a wood-paneled exterior is 2 km from Curi Cancha Wildlife Refuge, 5 km from Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and 34 km from the Inter American Highway. The laid-back rooms come with cable TV and safes. Upgraded rooms add free Wi-Fi, coffeemakers and balconies. Room service is offered.Amenities include an unfussy restaurant/bar, gardens and secured parking. Access to an indoor pool, a hot tub and a gym at a sister property is available.
Location is very relaxing and calm mountainous area. Approx a 20min walk to town for restaurants. Lodge has a restaurant and bar area, and a smokers area. All the gardens clean and well kept.Lodge is a older eco friendly lodge, rooms feel a cabin, rustic feel inside. Kinda reminded me of a motel due to the noise, thin walls, noise from other rooms. No heat or air condition in rooms, a good size. Our coffee pot outlet didnt work. We did have a small bag of coffee in a paper bag. Also I had ask for clean blankets due to someone elses hair being on them. Room is very damp, moldy smelling the entire stay, no dehumidifier, no ceiling fans, no air vent in any of rooms- bathroom. We kept windows cracked for air circulation. So far all my hotel rooms have been very expensive in a low cost area. You will pay USA prices. Im ok with that if the business is going to deliver awesome service andcleanliness. Choose wisely if your traveling in a touristy area. This room was booked by Gate 1 travel agency. Not a place I would choose for my family. Tip: bring warm clothesFoodHappy Hour was decent, drinks where tasteful for price. USA prices for food, portions are a good size. They of course messed my order up, put mayonnaise on my chicken and beef nachos. When I complained about it took forever to come back to table to fix my meal. Breakfast- more beans rice, hotdogs, eggs, shredded chicken, veggies. Tips: take a taxi or walk downtown for food. Conclusion: I would not stay here again on my own terms.
Rooms are dark, cold, damp. There are nice places to eat around. Wi fi was working well in the room. Room was clean every day. Nearby is rather busy road. Noise, fumes.
Nice hotel, friendly staff, great hot water
This is a lovely lodge in Monteverde with incredibly pretty landscaping in the courtyards. The rooms do not have air conditioning or heat, but you dont miss it at all. Maria at the front desk was always smiling and helpful, and the service from all the staff was excellent. The in-house restaurant is superb - be sure to try the local Costa Rican house wines, they are very good. Service at the restaurant was outstanding. Happy hour is from 3 to 6 pm.Its a short walk downhill to the town center - the trip back is just a few dollars by taxi.We loved our stay here and would certainly visit again!
Customer Service: 5Location: 5Parking: 5Cleanliness: 5Reservations: 5Comfort: 1This country lodge is situated in the heart of the Montevedra, Costa Rica and within walking distance from downtown. This hotel does not have any pool and 1 restaurant on site. The staff was very friendly and professional during our stay. The wifi is pretty good and very reliable. Our room was not very comfortable because they are outdated. There is no AC or heat in the rooms. Also there is no vents in the bathroom, so we felt like we were smelling mold in the rooms.
The greatest hotel weve been so far. Great food, big rooms with big beds and a nice bathroom and a great outdoors. Wonderful service. It is a bit if a walk to the city, but otherwise for a 3-star hotel nearly perfect.
Lovely garden setting with wood cabin feel rooms that are a bit small but adequate. Very well maintained. The road into it is steep and unpaved as in many in the area. It is hard to walk from here to other places due to that but the on site restaurant and the one right next to the hotel is excellent.
Beautiful gardens. Enjoyed restaurant.
This hotel reminds me of a skiing lodge, lots of wood panelling, very cosy. The gardens are nicely landscaped. We spent 2 nights here and had breakfast and dinner in the hotel restaurant, both very good. The one minor quibble about the hotel is the soundproofing, you hear cases being carried down the stairs and people walking past at 6:30am.Driving to this hotel was an experience in itself, we got to drive on some quite poor roads which in the UK would be classed as farm tracks. I’d recommend if you’re driving here, definitely go for a 4x4 hire car, we absolutely hammered our hire car.We took a tour with Forest Alive, and our guide took us into the cloud forest which was really interesting, he was very knowledgable.
No air or heat. On the equivalent with a worn down American hotel, but the grounds are nice and the people are nice. Close to town.
We spent 2 days and 3 nights here. Our room was large, clean and comfy, we had a superior room and it had everything we needed, shampoo, soap, hairdryer, safe and coffee machine with great coffee. They had a great selection for breakfast. The gardens are kept well, it was a good base for our days in Santa Elena and Monteverde. Its a bit of a walk to the centre but there are restaurants around the hotel. We could here lots of wildlife around the hotel and when the sky is clear at night you can see so many stars. All in all we enjoyed our stay here. All the staff were friendly and helpful.
Stayed 2 nights and the staff is 5/5, the downfalls are 1the room without ac to control humidity and no fridge. 2Noise, dogs barking, howler monkeys nearby, and loud neighbors, we had a room next to a set of stairs and the room above was apparently a party room, busy both nights. Also no staff on site at night. The town nearby and activities in proximity also 5/5,
The staff is what stands out the most; very friendly and helpful. The lodge is 15min (walkingaway from the center and the rooms are comfortable. The x factor was missing and thats why the 4 star evaluation, I would give 4.5 if possible
Old, rundown room and bathroom. Staff was friendly. Noisy.
Clean rooms, no pool or hot spring. Great staff and two restaurants nearby. No air conditioner but we didnt need it. A friendly local atmosphere.
Beautiful lodge with great cabin feeling. Beautiful and serene garden with water features that engage in relaxing atmosphere.
We stayed here for 2 nights, should of been 3 but we left a day early. The hotel was clean, nice garden areas and the staff were all friendly and polite. The only thing that let it down was the location, we liked that we werent in the middle of the town, But we had a hire car. If youre relying on shuttles then the walk to/from town and the choices of restaurants could leave you feeling a little isolated.(Also the incessant barking of the neighbouring dogs ALL night, got too much, even through earplugs)The food at the restaurant was nice and wasnt overpriced. We left early as we felt we had done everything we wanted to and wanted to get to the coast, for a more relaxing time sooner.
Room was great, breakfast decent, great stuff and they booked for us an excellent guide for the Reserve. Wi-fi a little bit slower but functioning. I would recommend it. Good value for money. Great comfortable bed btw :)
Pretty decent for the price, although too bad there is no refrigerator or microwave in the room. Free breakfast was quite good.
Good place, staff is amazing. Walls are a little thin (noise upstairs, wish we were on the second floor), no pool but has a deal with place across town thats nice.
The walls are paper thin so you’re going to hear everything. The beds springs are coming through the mattress they need to put either mattress crates on the bed or change out the mattresses that’s why I give them such a low star. The people were wonderful they were accommodating they could use more pillows in the room and refrigerator. The shower was hot and cold it was not consistent. But the property is beautiful and you can use hotel Poco Poco however their hot tub is not hot it’s just warm.
Water was cold. Food was ok. Beds were ok. We could almost hear conversations from people doors away. Staff was super friendly. Food was ok.
Very nice place. Lots of cute dogs in the area! Close enough to town 30 min walk. Good food!!!! Excellent service...
Great staff, good location, big and comfortable acommodations and also a nice convenient hotel restaurant. Would definitely recommend!
If you aren’t used to the country side and natural cool, you will not like this spot. I loved it. Placed conveniently next to a busy tourist street even tho you have to walk up 2 blocks. The nights were nice and cool, I LOVED IT! It was my 3rd stop on my honeymoon and then made beautiful gestures. Covered chocolate strawberries with a nice detail congratulations card made by them. Located across the street from an amazing restaurant with great food. Receptionist was very tentative and they include laundry services which came in handy !
I visited in June 2021.This place seems to have been nice before Covid but after, it still has some work to do.Relatively bare, I felt like the only ones here, which wouldnt be an issue but there were some things that made this a 1 star visit.Ill start with the most aggravating. At 6am in the room next door were ppl singing at the top of their lungs. Im not sure if they were employees or guests but it woke me up and was annoying. Just my experience spending one night here, perhaps I got unlucky.Next, there was no ac unit and refrigerator in the rooms. It got very hot at night and this was an issue. There was no restaurant or bar on site, instead we were instructed to go to a sister hotel to eat which they did provide a shuttle for but was a hassle. Poco Poco was the name, and the food was good. One positive is that there is a restaurant bar right across the street, didnt try the food but seemed like it would be good. The town is nice but this place is kind of a far walk from it.
Nice rooms, but no inside seating. Water temp was variable. Great exterior garden area. Fine restaurant with excellent service. Good food at reasonable prices.
My husband and I stayed in the Monteverte Country Lodge for two nights during a10 day Costa Rica trip in February 2020. The room of the hotel is super clean and well maintained. The restaurant of the hotel had delicious local cousin with very reasonable price. But what really made this hotel special was Yorleni who works at the front desk and her extraordinary customer services. One day I desperately told her that I lost cell phone on the tour bus that I took for the day trip. She immediately contacted the tour company. The tour company initially said they couldnt find the phone. Then she asked me more questions about the situation. At that time, I was sad and already gave up hope that I can get the phone back. But she didnt give up, she picked up the phone and talked to the tour company again. After 15 mintues, miracle happened, the tour company called back said they found my phone. I was so overwelmed with happiness that I wanted to give her some money for her effors. She refused to accept the money and said that it was her job, she would do it for every customer.
Good location some 15 mins by car from St Elena. No pool, free WiFi, satellite TV in each room, limited hanging space in rooms. Lovely gardens. Good restaurant, happy hour in bar 4-6 pm each day.
Overall a nice place and location...but the room layout was a little odd (location of light switches and power outlets being where the pillows would lay). We had a small hickup with the bathroom doorknob broke when someone was inside, the maintenance guy got on it immediately, got the person out, and offered to get us a new room. He restaurant on premises is also decent and well priced.
Extremely friendly staff and a great location. Away from the main part of town, but still near restaurants, cafes, and a small market. Pretty quiet area at night, but the walls were paper thin so we heard a lot of doors opening/closing, neighbors talking and moving around and any motorbike that went by. The bathroom was really nice, great shower with hot water. Most impressive was the grounds - beautifully maintained gardens. The restaurant was OK with breakfast and happy hour drinks being the highlight. The restaurant across the street has GREAT food and drinks. Overall a really great place to stay.
We didn’t know to ask for a specific quiet room, if it had a coffee pot, a comfortable bed, hair dryer or an A/C. It was like sleeping on the hard floor. Had to have windows open for air. & very noisy with people right out our door & just outside of restaurant that was open 5am (cookingtil 10pm with music.I scheduled this hotel in Oct & photos looked really nice. Not so for our room, Pretty shabby. My husband was ill & needed rest. Hotel could not put us in any other room. And, I couldn’t find any other hotels at the last minute. I will never stay here again.
Manager Luis changed this experience from one stars to three, but this property was still a disappointment overall. The room we were assigned was nothing like the room we booked or the amenities described in our booking. Once that was pointed out, Luis was kind enough to "upgrade" us to another room that was much more acceptable, but still short of what we booked and thus not a true upgrade. And this is definitely not anything close to a three-star hotel; closer to 1.5. No heat, AC, refrig, microwave, or pool that one would expect in a 3-star hotel. Paper-thin walls allow us to hear the TV and plumbing next door. Would not return.
This was the most beautiful Eco Lodge I have seen in Costa Rica. I wish I have booked one more night there. The room was speaking clean and specious. The lodge is mostly made of wood. Its location is very good (its a few minutes drive to the town centre).I do recommend to eat out and walk in the tiny town centre. Eat some local Costa Rican dish (my friend had a traditional beef stew)Do not miss the excursions: zip lines, hanging bridges and night tour!!!
The room was dark during the day and there was light shining into the window at night. The curtains were not helpful as they were sheer. Our room was very noisy. We could hear the people talking in the next room as well as those on the floor above us. As we were next to the stairs we heard anyone going up or down. Breakfast was tasty and there is a great restaurant across the road.
Staff was very nice and helpful, but classic rooms were terrible. Dark with lighting that didnt help very much. But the worst thing was the noise. The rooms have no soundproofing, so if youre on the bottom floor, you hear every toilet flush, shower, stomping around the room, doors closing and able to clearly hear conversation. No fan, no fridge...just a dark, noisy cave!
The restaurant is open with buffet in the morning and seems the same everyday. At evening you can order by menu, the taste is good and always with the right choice of wine your dinner improves a lot. The service is good and friendly, definitely is not the best restaurant but you can have a good dinner here all depend on your choice/mix and open to taste some new dishes, "olla de carne" for example is lean warm soup with mest, vegetables and great taste. Enjoy!
There are more scenic places to stay. This place is fairly basic. The steaks are good in the restaurant, but I got ill eating their sea food. There is much better food just down the road. The ecological commitment seems pretty good.
Quiet place, offering laundry service ($15 for a full bag). The restaurant is nice during the evening, with a happy hour from 4 to 6pm, but the breakfast is quite disappointing & the personel is not as nice as where weve been to so far in other places in Costa Rica.Overall ok but not my best experience
Breakfast lacks options but you can surely feed yourself in the morning. Rooms arent too well isolated but you can sleep easily. The restaurant has good food for dinner and the tico time is a great way to start you evening.
My wife and I stayed there for 3 nights during our visit to Monteverde- Great staff, food and restaurant. Reasonably priced food at the restaurant. Happy hour is great- Comfortable beds- Very good garden- Large rooms but there were many insects in the room- Walls are very thin and can hear everything from outside.- Breakfast is ok
The rooms were clean and staff were friendly. The rooms were a little out of date though. It was fairly cool at night and no heaters meant wearing sweaters to bed along with extra blankets. The roofs are tin or aluminum so the rain was very loud at night with frequent loud bangs as water fell onto them. At the very least, bring ear plugs. Location was a 10 min drive to town. The on site restaurant had good food as well. Wi-Fi available and alright for light messaging.
A quiet , charming lodge with pretty flowering plants all around. The wood exterior gives it a warm, sophisticated touch. Our room was spacious yet cozy and the location is convenient to city center as well as just 10 mins from Monteverde cloud forest. The staff at reception were very friendly and helpful with booking tours and activities. The breakfast (included in pricewas delicious. The WiFi in room wasnt very strong but as soon as you stepped out it got better. They have patio furniture outside every room which was good to relax in while we watched the kids play. Im so glad to see most hotels in Costa Rica are very eco friendly and this one was too! We had separate trash cans for organic and non organic in our room. The shampoo and body wash provided were also organic botanical products ! Great place to stay in Monteverde!
We were very disappointed with this hotel - especially as we were expecting to stay at their more up market sister hotel (Poco a Poco). The rooms were OK, but, as so many have pointed out, not well maintained and with no sound proofing at all.The breakfast buffet was pitiful by comparison to every other place we stayed in Costa Rica!I have given a second star for 2 reasons:1. Happy hour - 1+1 on cocktails2. The reception staff are all friendly and helpful
No complaint to customer service at the front desk and housekeeping. Warm welcome upon arrival. Clean room. The lodge itself needs improvement tho. We were given a room in the main building where the reception is attached to. Paper-thin wall (could hear next door flipping light switches, people walking up and down the wooden staircase, luggages being dragged on the concrete pathway outside the building, not to mention people chatting in various languages). Room looked dated, dark and gloomy even with all the lights on and curtains lifted. No hot water the first night (monteverde is windy and cold at night; hot water is needed. We were offered to go to another room to take shower?!). Not much reason to return to this hotel.
This hotel was amazing. We got a great deal on a room for two days. The staff was warm and accommodating. The bar had a great happy hour and breakfast was great. Our room had everything we needed and was in a great location. The staff helped us book a night tour which picked us up from the hotel. Overall a great experience at the Monteverde Country Lodge!
Great service in English. They assisted for booking a last minute night tour excursion and gave us refreshing fruit drinks when we arrived. The lodge is beautiful, spacious, green, and well maintained. Im looking forward to their breakfast.
The hotel is quite nice and rooms are spacious. The bar has a happy hour and they serve a tasty guano sour. While generally the rooms are clean, we had some uninvited (livingguests in our room. This might be due to the doors (entry and balconyhaving a slight gap.
This hotel is very nice and modern. The restarant is nice there are beautiful plants and fountains. My only complaint is that there was a lizard in our room. There was also a nice tv in our room and nice balcony outiside with bright lights.
Very nice and relaxing hotel in Monte Verde. The room was clean and adequate, very friendly staff and the restaurant on site served tasty food. Only issue is the walk to the nearby town is a bit far and there isnt a pool. Other than that, it is a great place to stay. Would come again!
