Monsaraz Castle - Castle in Evora, Portugal
Beautiful walled ancient preserved Castle ruins and city where people still live. You can see Spain from there!
Impressive but busy and expensive cafes and restaurants.
Very beautiful kept, old village and castel, to visit and spend a afternoon or lunchtime. There many eateries and shops etc..Sadly its a Museum and therefore its a bit, lifeless of real people.
A must visit in deep Alentejo. Nice view. Good restaurants and beautiful shops with traditional articles.
You can feel the medieval story behind, well preserved! Great view.
I really feel in love with this town. I Sat in a little restaurant and ate goat cheese and enjoyed white wine...I will remember the day the rest of my life
Great views. Well maintained. A visit to another time.
Incredible views of the "Great Lake" of Alqueva and surrounding area.
Very nice castle, you can reach easily from Évora by car.

Beautiful place to visit with such magnificent views. Lots of little shops and a nice restaurant to eat Portuguese Tapas :-)
Wonderful little village with a very unique look in Alentejo and filled with important aspects of portuguese history
So very beautiful. Definitely worth a visit. Nice little restaurant for a quick meal and lovely shops with momentos from the visit.
Great place to visit and great view of the surroundings.
Monsaraz is a tranquil hill top village with astounding views across the extensive plains and reservoir - visit and youll want to stay all day and drink in its calm and peaceful culture, in September access was no issue with the village glowing in the afternoon sun and idyllic architecture.
The most intriguing of this beautiful place were the stones. Reminded me immediately of Outlander.Wonder if they put them there for ceremonial purposes?!
Great views, and a nice destination. Beautiful country setting, close to Spain, and hot! Well worth the trip.
Fabulous experience and stayed 2 days in the top carpark before noticing a sign to say motorhome parking relocated although we were not alone and no one bothered us.The motorhome parking has now moved from on top of the castle carpark to a large area in the olive grove adjacent to the roundabout.
Yippy ti yi yo get along little doggies...Just a stones throw outside of Evora...Beautiful area with views for miles...These Fortresses set a top hills in Portugal are a gem...Self contained little community within the walls with local artisan arts and crafts for every taste...They say there´s a festival where Bulls run through the streets into the ring inside the Castle...Resident Cowboy and supporter of the economy of Portugal since 2016
While we went at a quiet time of year, it was really calming to just wander the streets, alleyways, and shops. There were so many beautiful overlooks and we really enjoyed our time!
Very nice place to shoot great photos, nice little shops
Stunning location. Beautiful views. Well worth a visit.
Well worth a visit, also for the fantastic views.
Monsaraz is my favourite small village in Portugal. The views over the lake are breathtaking and the small white houses are a real pretty. Combine it with some visits to a local winery and taste the local products.
My favorite place in Alentejo. A cute small town inside the castle walls, will transport you to a different time. We spent 3 days and could have stayed much longer. It was quiet, well maintained and with lots of character. The views from the castle are breathtaking, especially at sunrise. We eat at a local restaurant called Lumanba and had deliciuos,no fuss homade Alentejo food.
The most beautiful Portuguese castle. The inner life, the view, the people, the structure preservation. A wonderful job done by Monsaraz in the past years that made this place one of the mandatory visits when in Portugal. Highly recommended!!
Highly recommended!! Very beautiful castle, with lots of history and gorgeous views. It was definitely worth the visit!
Stunning views from the castle in this beautiful hilltop town.
Spectacular views!Very nice and well maintained.
Wonderful place. There are good restaurants inside the walls. You got a perfect view over the area there!
Surpringly well organized turistic attraction. Everything white like on most parts of Alentejo. Amazong views to the Alqueva big lake.
An interesting castle in a beautiful village. Fantastic panoramic views of the area and as far as Spain. Weekends are busier.
Extraordinary place perched above dry landscape. Castle and cottages, all well preserved, good services but restaurants need to be booked ahead.
Beautiful and well preserved castle. A must see in Alentejo.
Wonderful views and so glad we went. Note it is not for people who have problems walking on uneven roads or have accessibility needs.
Amazing views, charming castle walls, towers and an arena, but not touristy. People live within the castle walls.
Amazing ... Portugal is an undiscovered gem with as much history and beauty as anywhere we have been. Spend the time looking at the hill towns. Just beautiful.
Interesting. No literature posted, so just walk around. Great views. Not crowded.
Fantastic medieval walled village and castle. The roads are made from slate and the streets have charming stores. A number of small restaurants dot the village snd the church is in good condition. The setting on a hill that can be seen from many km away and the views from Monsaraz Castle walls are special.
Beautiful hidden gem. Very authentic, quiet (since there are no carsand wonderful views over the lake, surrounding areas and mountains.
A beautiful Castle in good condition. Fantastic views from the towers. When we visited they were doing an archaeological dig in the grounds. The streets are lined with white washed houses and in-between them little boutique shops selling all sorts of local produce and gifts. There are also plenty of cafes and restaurants to sit at and take in the surrounding views.
Really cool place with rough cobblestone streets and many photo ops location. Very uncrowded.
Wonderful panoramic view of the Alentejo Region. We drove all the way to the villa, on top of the hill, and then it is a 5 minute walk until you reach the castle towers. The villa itself is charming and very touristic, with hotels, gift shops, cafes and restaurants. The castle is not very large, but offers a 360° view of the region.
A Must see when you visit Portugal ! If you enjoy Obidos this is even better! Breathtaking views a d the castle is in pristine condition of restoration. One 9f my favorite stops so far in Portugal
Definitely a must if youre anywhere near Alentejo or in Spain near the border. Monsaraz is a small medieval village, incredibly well preserved, located in the top of a small mountain. The castle is not that big, but the scenery is incredible and every corner or angle has a beautiful view (especially if youre lucky and get a clear sunny day).
Most beautiful place on Earth! Unique landscape, delicious food, amazing wine and genuine kind people!
Amazing Castle in Alentejo with panoramic views for the Alqueva dam. Lots of little shops with local crafts and local wine to take as a souvenir.
This is such a magical place! Up on top of the mountain, this medieval little town makes you feel like you re back in time! Really beautiful to walk around and go inside the small shops and talk to people. Up from the castle you get an amazing view over the land now covered in water. Worth to visit anytime of the year and DO stay for the sunset!!!
The castle is a great place to visit. The view is absolutely astonish were you could see the lake almost everywhere. Inside you have lots of restaurants and place to buy souvenirs.
