Sanctuary with a large cave housing more than 2 million fruit bats, with tours & views from outside.
Very accommodating. The location is justtoo far from the center and the beach isnt that nice.
A right place to see the wonder of nature. It is recorded as one of the largest roost colony of fruit bath cave in the Guiness World of Record.
Amazing experience with nature!
This was one of the highlights of my two months in the Philippines! 2.5 million fruit bats in one location. There was a very informative talk to prepare for the visit to the cave. There are 5 openings into the cave allowing you to witness the wonders of the bats.
Educational and a great view.
The owner is so approachable maam Norma..all staff are friendly.the place is good for kids to explore
We went to the Bat Sanctuary way too early. We were allowed to roam inside but we were not informed that there will be a short lecture. The lecture was informative, the place didnt reek of guano smell unless you go and have a peek at the four holes of the cave. We were also lucky to see the albino bat! So when you go here make sure to look out fr the white bat! And they have an evening session at certain days so look around the internet for more info. :)
Amazing experience (and smell). Definately something I would recommend to those who are near by. Not something you see every day.
If you love bats or want to see colony of bats or bat kingdom then you should visit this place when in Samal Island in Mindanao. It is a guiness world record holder of highest number of fruit bat colony living here. Entrance fee is 150php as of March 2020. Orientation of dos and donts is given prior to tour. There are 5 caves where you can view all bats in different angles. You can smell them and its really stinky coz you also smell their pees. Silence is very importance. I never thought there would be so many bats living in this kind of pace. It is actually a short walk to see all the viewing site. Parking space is available outside. But due to the location pf this bat sanctuary, Private vehicle or car rental is necessary when going here.
The cave have 5 visible areas from above through collapsed cave roof. The walls are covered with bats from which strong smell from bat feces will overwhelm your senses. Entry into the cave is prohibited and perhaps dangerous because of the toxic smell.
very nice place with their natural habitat... hope ma preserve siya always.....
It was an amazing place! There is a small discussion before entering the area of the bat caves. Its really informative!
What a waste of money. It’s 125 pesos per person just to see some putrid-smelling caves full of bats. Save it for something better. Here’s a photo. That’s all you need.It feels like all the reviews here are fake
Im giving it 5 stars because I love everything about it. I love that they established refuge for the bats. You know, conservation at its best. They have a very accommodating environment. The staff or the volunteer, who did the orientation before touring around the place, was very friendly and dedicated to her work. The smell of the place near the caves where the bats are inhabiting was not nice but was bearable. Walking down the beach was really relaxing. The view was magnificent with all the tall coconut trees, nice shoreline, blue ocean, gushing cool wind, etc. I love it! There were few trashes but just dont mind them, and find the tranquility of the place and enjoy it. Also, take some instagramable photos. 😀😉
Very protected bat sanctuary. The place is peaceful. And the tourist guide was very helpful and kind.
First time to see real life millions of bats . .it was an amazing experience...a must stop over if u want to explore samal island
Bring mosquito/insect repellant. Also, the smell could be overwhelming.Very energetic welcoming host/speaker. Inquire about night tours.
A lecture was held before the sightseeing, telling us about the culture of these bats, and the history behind the bat sanctuary. We were told that we cannot enter the cave, foe P120.00 we can only peek at the caves. The bats are very visible and are very loud. They do not come near you as they are trying to relax in their home. Especially when its their sleeping time (day time).
The bat cave is huge, and it even won a Guinness World Record for having 2.5 million of the same species in the cave! No other species can be found here. Although no one is allowed to go inside, there are four ceiling holes in the cave where you can observe them. Just get your noses ready; its going to be a repulsive tour. The entrance fee of 120 per head is a little bit expensive.
You can feel the wildlife in the area. Although the bat cave is stinky due to there poop. Hahaha
It was an unforgettable experience. Grabe amazing.. Ang Ganda!
Great experience. Has a bad smell towards the last few caves. But seriously worth the viewing. Its amazing how many there really are and how active they are at any time of the day!
A famous tourist destination in the Island Garden City of Samal and just a motorcycle away from nice beaches and resorts, this Bat Sanctuary boasts itself as one of the largest in the world and has the largest colony of Geofreys Rousette Fruit Bat. It has several cave chambers of bats located in just a small place. Before exploring the place, a brief explanation of the place and guide on what and what not to do in the place will be given by a Tourism Officer. A fee of 150Php per person is charged for a visit during daytime and 200Php on night time.
There are 5 cave openings and it consists of 2.5M bats.
Incredible sight, amazing. We were there during the day but next time going for evening to watch them come out. Also, going to try to time the visit during a full moonNight viewing I think is just on weekends and requires some clothing protection, but like I said we were there during the day, I would message them on Facebook for night viewing details before going
More than 2.5 millions of fruit bats stay in 5 specially designed caves.very real n breath taking view to watch such huge no.of bats at a single habitation...a must see in Davao in Philippines..
Amazing place. They flying also by the day a bit inside the cave with a special background noise. There are 1.8 Millions bats ...the smelling is not like for every nose :)))
This Bat Sanctuary is one of the highly recommended tourist spot from the locals of the Samal Island in Davao.Theres an orientation (for almost an hourbefore we get to see the bats inside. It was very informative as we were educated about fruit bats before seeing them (types, lifespan, etc.). Fruit bats help a lot in the pollination of the Durian Fruit in Davao.Theres 5 open caves on the sanctuary. They were grouped from nursery to a flying school up to elderly bats (which is the most quiet cave anyway). You have to prepare yourself as you might not like the smell along the area lol!Overall, its a must see visit! 👌
Theres really a lot of bats in here and its a wonder how they were able to create a system for themselves. Just be prepared with the foul smell of their poop..
Entrance fee for Day tour is ₱120 and Night tour is ₱190. Youll be wandering the Cave entrances by yourselves so you have ample time to really look into the fruit bats. Theres a mini lecture before the start of your tour. Bring a face mask or something to cover your nose, the bats poop (guanosmells really nasty.
For me one of the very best places to go in Samal Island, especially if you like animals and nature. You cant go inside the caves, but you can get near enough to see the bats which are situated near the entrances anyway. There are five caves, and there is a great briefing session which explains much about the caves and the bats. The bats are Fruit Bats which help a lot in the pollination of the Durian Fruit in Davao. The only issue is there is a bit of a smell from the Bat Guano (or Bat Droppingswhich may turn off some people. It wasnt an issue with me, some of the locals there cite it as an issue for them.Still for me the highlight of my visit to Samal, along with the Taclobo Sanctuary. Must see, highly recommended.
A must to visit. Youll be amazed by the segreation of the Bats according to age.
Before going in the sanctuary, they’ll explain the background on how bats are categorized per hole and also shared that bats were one of those doing cross polination in Davao. Entrance fee is 120 pesos and an environmental fee of 5 pesos. Such a great experience! You’ll get to explore the sanctuary more or less around 20-25 minutes. Please be reminded about the foul smell around the area.
Worth a visit if you are on the island. Dont expect it to take too long though, you can view it all in about 20 minutes.
This is really amazing. Entrance fee is120 php. Caves have five holes and all of them are full of bats. Its really amazing! Best time to watch the bats are when night is coming they are forming tornado when they come out at night and quite scarry at first because all you see is there eyes. Something to remember
At first I was hesitant to go to Monfort Bat Sanctuary because Im afraid of bats and I might not be able to tolerate the smell, but the tricycle driver cum tour guide told me that its in the Guinness World record so I was convinced.Theres an entrance fee of 200pesos (less 20pesos for Senior Citizens). You can buy some souvenirs at the entrance. The tour starts with an orientation by a very knowledgeable tour guide, she talked about the history of Monfort, and about bats - the habitat, characteristics of fruit bats. There are several caves - one for kinder bats, another for flying school, one for the aging bats and more...I was expecting the place to be smelling with bat urine but luckily the wind blows to west direction.Overall, I had a great educational tour.
This is a good opportunity to learn about fruit-eating bats. Its pretty expensive though just make sure to get in before the guide gets off work. But youre free to roam the vicinity and smell authentic bat poo. Good experience.
One of the best places weve visited at IGACOS. Youll never regret it. Great value for money. Youll be amazed of how bats are categorized based on age per "hole" or colony. #amazing Just dont forget to bring mask for the bad smell. 😀The place was awarded by the Guinness Book of Record for having the highest number of bats in one colony.
Include this in your bucketlist! Thank you Monfort Bat Sanctuary Davao for taking care of the bats!
The place is easily accessible by car. Upon entry youll be charged 5php/pax as an environmental fee. Upon entry to the area, a 120php/pax will be charged. Therell be a short briefing regarding the bats. The walk to the caves is not more than 30mins. Though you would observing them from a distance, you are able to smell the stench of the cave. The experience was good as you wouldnt see 2 million bats altogether hanging in a cave like that.
Stand close to their home and take a deep breath! So bango pala the bats. You can also see their balls hanging 😁
June 2017I put this into our itinerary since I dont know much about bats and to be honest I thought I can see and touch a bat up close like the one I experienced in Boracay . Contrary to my expectation we did not see one up close yet we saw a their habitat at a distance and had a guided tour around the cave premises. We also gained information about these creatures and the dedicated stewardship that the owner shows. It can be a quick side trip for those who want a break from the sea and beaches of Samal.
A very green place.. full of trees. Oversized parking space. Nice attendant. Wonders of nature and pillinators.. the live Bats are living inside a cave and shown to the public. Very educational nature tour.
Very mysterious and interesting place. A few minutes drive from the coast of Club Samal Resort where I stayed.
The entrance fee is 100 per head. You go inside to be oriented and then you visit the 5 caves where you can take pictures from outside, and then go back for when you have questions . You can go friday, saturday and sunday at night because thats when the bats go out to eat.
Definitely not to miss when you are in Samal Island. Located at Brgy. Tambo in Samal Island, it is considered one of the major attractions in the island. The Bat Sanctuary is recognized by the Guinness World Records to have the largest colony of Geoffreys Rousette Fruit Bats estimated at 1.8 million
Fantastic place, very accessible from the main road. Youve never seen so many bats. If you can, try to go there around 6:30 in the evening, thats when the bats emerge. Although if you want a good look at them its best to go during daylight.
Its a one of a kind experience because it is not always that you can see thousands of bats. You will also see learn as the tour guide will give you information about, aside from the information in the big tarps.
Home to the largest fruit bat colony in the world. Visitors have to pay a registration fee to enter the property. The bat cave has been well preserved with areas where you can safely view the bats.
Its amazing to see a lot of bats. The tour guide showed us drunk bats, mother huggig their baby bats and cave for oldies bats. We also witnessed a rat trying to eat a bat. Its really amazing to see this nature personally.
