Amazing architecture and atmosphere. you can feel the history inside this church. do not miss the view from above the hill beside the church it only takes 3 minutes to go up.
The monetary itself is beautiful, but the road to access it is amazing too, its a national eco park, and a little chapel on your way to it,definitely must be visited!
That was very goodBut hard walk for old people
A centuries-old church built with stones taken from the surrounding nature. It is very busy on holidays. But on normal days, you can enjoy the peace there along with the history.
It’s a place worth its visit, in the map may route not be clear and a bit confusing, so we have to first reach JULFA in Iran, then proceed to the Monastery.
The place is closed on Friday and official holidays. The working days is open from 8am till 2 PM during Covid pandemi.
We visited this place on the way to tabriz, the most beautiful road that I have ever seen in Iran (you could see the border of iran, armenia and azarbaijan wich is a river!), and the church is old and amazing, there is a spot to sit and order lunch too, so you should not be worried about food, but it is also possible to picknick too, not with fire but bread and other stuff, its a bit far from everything, but you can climb the mountain to take good photos, restroom and a little rstaurant is also available.
Very nice and exhubearanting place😍😍😍🙏🙏🙏Loved it. Unfortunately was closed due to Covid19 Red Situation in Jolfa😪🥴😒Maybe next time....
A beautiful historic place with a great view and good architecture which is surprisingly preserved. It is a long walk up there from your car so be prepared! Most rooms are open for the public to see. There are 2 small museums inside filled with ancient relics. This is a must-see place in East Azerbaijan.
I think it is a very good sample of Armenian architecture and their believes.
In the imazing places on the border of Iran &Azerbaijan country beside Aras reiver near Jolfa city in East Azerbaijan province
Its one of the UNESCO world heritage sites and a must-see in the northwest of Iran.
Driving for about 2.5 hours from Tabriz, we enjoyed the beautiful scenery and the Aras river along the way before reaching the monetary of Saint Stepanos. We parked our car down the hill and started climbing for 15 minutes to get to the church. The walking route might be a bit challenging for the elderly. We got the tickets and entered the monolithic church. The interior has been preserved very well and the whole place was clean.
Totally cute and calm
Lovely small church with beautiful stonework.
One of the most beautiful Monastery I have ever seen, located In North West of Iran, near the border of Nakhjavan, not far from Jolfa, you can drive the the wonderful road from Jolfa beside the Aras river and get the the fantastic Saint Stepanos Monastry after walking stone walk way inside the nature
There is parking and you can park your car. After having a short hiking you will see the church. You can climb a little more and see the amazing view from uphill. There is a w.c. and a small cafe in the way.
An amazing old and historical church (monasterybuilt about 500 years ago and having a great architecture and design in a an amazing atmosphere
Very nice
If you go to Jolfa; dont miss to see this Cathedral. It is something completely different to all i have seen befor
Very beautiful Monastery with small museum. there is no notable statue or painting but you can enjoy excellent sightseeing along Aras river, with glorious mountains and in the way you can visit two small churches and also Aras dam.
Amazing place with good nature
You can visit it between 9 to 18:30 during spring and summer and something around 9-17 during autumn and winter. The Monastery is well protected and it also has a musuem that is closed at noon
I loved this ancient monastery and its whereabouts. Its in the middle of a castle-like building. Its second ancient monastery in Iran after Thaddeus.
Wonderful wonderful Armenian church, believed to be from 9th century ..It is situation 15 kilometers from Julfa .. near the Iran Armenia border and Aras river .It is between some rocky mountains .. the nature and mountains are astonishing there !!!It s a bit crowded on the weekends but totally worth visiting also there is little park next to it and a little museum in the Complex
Much restored but beautiful. It was crowded with group tourists with large buses.I negotiated a taxi driver at Jolfa bazaar and agreed for 400,000 irr, but he finally claimed to pay 800,000 irr for round trip. I take him to police station. Police man ask me to pay 700,000 irr, 600,000 irr...I payed 600,000 irr. Just confirm if a round trip charge or not.
Drive safe. Do not forget 🌂 and water. Early in the morning will be better. I was there in June.
I liked the garden surrounding the church and there was a nice friendly outdoor cafe where you can dine or just get a coffee.
I visited there at 11 May 2018.There was excellent. With greatness and old age.
Almost like a davinci code building, full of old symbols and mystic
Armanian church, with a small museum inside. About 200 m walking up hill
Nice beautiful historical
A very nice place to have a good time, a beautiful church with a craft shop and a restaurant and wonderful green space. Try it 😉
Wonderful place, I do recommend Visit this beautiful monastery
It located at the top left borderlands of Irans territory. The road to access there is very nice. Aras river is laid beside the road. Beautiful mountains with colorful stones. There is a stairway garden before get the monastery.
Located at the heart of the beautiful mountains of West Jolfa, with a road travelling along the coast of the river Aras
Restoration works have done a great job on the outside of this place and scaffolding is still inside the main dome where work continues on the frescoes. You are still able to enter this area. 150k entry for tourists. Great place.
Do not go there during holidays because there is many people who just come there for taking photo. Other than this church there are some church’s in the road of jolfa-poldasht which are beautiful to see.
Stunning monument persuading everybody to learn more about the great people and the builders behind it !
Great monastery and nice place to come and spend some time. The monastery itself is not very big, but on a quiet day it is nice to sit in the garden and take in the scenery. There is a little museum (included in the ticket). Slightly below the monastery, there is a place to have coffee and tea.
Very beautiful monastery. It is the second most important Christian centre in Iran. You can also visit Choopan(Shepherdchurch 20 km to Jolfa city.
Very beautiful church. The best i have seen. its even larger than St. Thaddeus Monastery.
You certainly dont see that very often in Iran, but that is a perfect example of the change of civilization. It is almost 2000 years old (been rebuilt thoughand is now a Unesco heritage site. You can see the Armenian border from there. There are only a few Christian church in Iran and this is one of these.
I liked this place a lot. historical churches are amazing in every aspect. totally recommend visiting this place!
