Monastery Panagia Skopiotissa - Monastery in Pyrgos, Greece
Překrásný kostelík, ke kterému vede strastiplná cesta. My jsme šli pěšky přímo od hlavní cesty, ale zpětně bych si asi troufl i autem, minimálně do poloviny cesty. O to víc si tu cestu budu pamatovat a vzhledem k osobním okolnostem to bude životní vzpomínka (💍). Kostelík byl otevřený a přístupný, přijel ho otevřít nějaký pán v jeepu.
Beautiful building in a stunning spot came during the golden hour so monastery was closed but the views were enhanced with stunning sunset. Carry a torch if up there at sunset.
The best things in life are free.Escape the never ending shops selling plastic Turtles, escape from the constant noise from scooters and quad bikes. Pack a rucksack with some snacks and plenty of water and spend an afternoon climbing into silent bliss, and take a trip back in time and enjoy the amazing views.
The view is very nice, but the road to the top is worst ever.
Hiked up from kalamaki to see the sunset, very beautiful place.Unfortunately the monastery had been locked up for the night (before 8pmso we could only see it from the outside.. still pretty tho!And from the summit nearby there was an awesome view of the sunset and half of the island 👌The walk down in darkness was A bit scetchy so make sure to bring headlamps if you want to try the same. There is snakes and scorpions that come out when its dark, but also quite a lot of geckos and frogs which was quite cool.
Great place to visit. The monastery was open when we were there, we could walk around and enjoy the buildings by ourselves, atmosphere and unforgettable panoramic views on both Kefalonia and Peloponnese. Main church is well kept with ancient paintings and unique atmosphere. We found a visitors book in the small building to the left of the entrance, 1st floor (up the woden stairs), and left a record too.Bad part: the road to the monastery is dangerous, rocks and gravel, good 4×4 car and expert driving skills. We were just lucky to make the journey on a rented car.
Weg erheen is per auto redelijk zwaar.
Wonderful place. Stunning views. Its difficult to get there, dont try it with a rental car. You can walk but its a climb to reach it, it will take you 1 and a half to 2 hours.A 4X4 will do the job.
Breath taking
A very special church for me because my grandfather took his name by it. You can only go on foot and it’s a one hour difficult climb, or go with a 4x4 because the road is full of rocks.Great energy on the top
Bumpy ride up there, gorgeous view, frescoes damaged, but still very much worth it. Cafe Skopio nearby with very friendly owner
A road (easy even for small carsto the monastery is a highlight. The views are amazing especially if you go in the evening (the lighting is just perfect). It is a one of the main highlights in Vasilikos area. But don’t try to pass through the mountains to Kalamaki unless you have a good off-road SUV (like defender). Though, if you have a 4 wheeled high car (x-trail should be okyou can go further, to stone pit. From stone pit there is a steep difficult road up and that’s where most of the cars will turn around. The photo taken going to the stone pit.
We tried to get there by (rentalcar from the east side, but we decided to go back when we were halfway there. Although we probably had passed the worst part, we did not want to take our chances. The road is very steep, very rocky and the endless view of the ocean can make it quite scary. Only drive here if you have a quad or 4x4!
Difficult road to get there but the view from above is definitely worth it
Nice old monastery. It is a ruïne. No people are living there anymore. You cannot see the inside. But when you have fantasy........❤
Well worth the rather arduous journey to get there. Make sure you walk up the rocks to get the best views. Obviously has been a busy place in the past, theres a cafe which is closed and the monastery can be floodlit. But when we went we were the only ones.
Lovely hike!
Nice destination for a light hike. Unfortunately the bar was closed in mid October but the monastery was nice and the view is beautiful.
What amazing views well worth the walk
Remote place with a ruin of Monastery, windy day we havd however, great view and sun rays make tolerance of the total reflection.
Really nice little monastery, and a challenging but nice walk from Kalamari.
Lovely, but long, walk from Kalamaki. Stunning views on the way. The monastery is small but lovely. There is a small canteena just at the bottom to quench your thirst
Very nice view from Mount Skopos
Amazing views but you need a 4x4
Amazing views after a long walk in the heat
Incredible place. Get some drinks at the Caffe down the road and walk around the place for a while. Incredible views and you can go inside. Still running as a monastery to this day. Calm and quiet atmosphere. Not many others here. Road to is rocky and bumpy to the extreme. Bring ATVs/quadbikes and it is great fun offroading up the rocks. Could possibly do it in a jimny or other 4x4 but would take a while. Worth going though.
Walked there, gate was locked, dog guarding it, walked back.
Worth the walk up!
Beautiful views and very friendly welcome
We went by foot throuh the mountains and I expected better view.
The monastery,or whatever ruins are left there,is nothing extraordinary to see. The view from the top of the mountain where the ruins are is exceptional. Its breathtaking and feel like the whole world lie in your feet. Beautiful! It takes about 10-15min with the car to get there from the main road, the ride is not enjoyable because its a gravel road and very narrow, but all worth once you reach the top.
Idilic place to feel piece of Greek Orthodox culture. Its quite challenging to drive there as last stretch is 4km uphill mountain gravel road so 4x4 is preferred type of transportation but it well worth it. Very calm, peaceful and interesting place. Please note that local upkeeper dont speak English so you may want to arrange for a guide.
Perfect view
Must go! At the end of path there is a little hidden path to go up that highest mountain point, this one is a pure must! Its absolutely amazing! The climb is very dangerous and very steep so go there is you are a little experienced! The views are totally worth it
Beautiful view, church was closed, but doesnt matter. Got up the road pretty easily in a Jimny, but was a bit hairy; just take your time. Well worth the climb.
Our scooter couldnt make it up the mountain but it was worth the walk. Amazing views, strange insects, ruins of an old church on the way up, bell chimes from the goats. The kind lady at the caravan opened the church for us to look around.
A place to see
Climbed all the way with an Jeep. Very dünn.
Spectacular, panoramic views with ancient ruins in the mix of a newer monastery.
Fantastic views of Zakynthos island. Its a steep climb, and theres no water at the top when the canteen isnt open. Nice monastery that rarely functions, maybe only every 15th of August. In fact beware of that date, cause half of Zakynthos will be up there. In other days its usually lonely at the top, which is a good thing.
A great hike up to the highest point on the island with some really interesting ruins and church at the top. The views are great and the history is interesting. I used Google Translate to translate the text on a sign from a photo I took.
Took a gentle run up to the top to view the monastery. The roads there are rough dirt tracks and quite steep in parts - I would advise if driving that only confident drivers go up. There is a large flat opening part way up where you could park, from here I belive its roughly 2.5km to the top. There are signs saying Skopos to keep you on track. Theres a small stop 200m from the monastery where you can buy refreshments (however I was there early in the morning so it was closed).Overall a worth while trip and Id have been sad to have missed it. The views on the hike and at the top are stunning and the remains of the monastery are an intriguing historic gem hidden from many.
Beautiful ruins of a monastery, the church is still there. You can climb to the top of the mountain just behind the monastery to have a great view of the island.
6 km to the top from Kalamaki - excellent trail running experience and an awesome view of both shores.
Descendant of the sun.Hot serie in Korea.I love Song Joong Ki.
This is one of the "must visit" places on Zakynthos. It took us a lot of effort to get there but it really is worth every step of climbing. Near the mountain top is located a small place run by aged and very kind Greek couple that serve you a glass of water right after they see your bone-tired body in front of the gate to Panagia Skopiotissa. Remember to buy something cold to dring for that life saving glass of water!
