if i were the prime minister of japan, i wouldn’t be caught dead here. however if i were the minister for justice for a country like malta, this would be a place i would frequent. let’s just say exclusivity is not this clubs forte.they do have some standards tho, as i have yet to see any winged rodents.🚫🦇

I’ve never had a more terrible bar experience in my life, so terrible that I feel compelled to leave a review. Sat at the bar and it took 20+ minutes to get a drink (and I had to flag someone down, no one just approached me), then another half hour passes with no acknowledgment and I’m just ready to go. It unfortunately took another half hour or so to cash out. I still left a tip of, actually 283% of my one, $5.30 beer because I know the needs of this industry. The server said though, that she’d prefer my grace over money—them having a new system. Now I just feel insulted, leaving a superb tip compared to the (lack ofservice I got—your new system and the understandable customer service lag had nothing to do with the excessive (and I mean near half hour blocks of wait timelack of attentiveness. No greetings, no would you like another drink, water, nothing. There sure were other customers servers were chatting it up with across the bar. I would have appreciated just a genuine apology, not some unaccountable dodge that doesn’t even make sense. Will never come back to this place.

Good ambiance. Food is not good, service is slow, staff arent friendly, seating is uncomfortable. May want to check out the Yelp reviews on this restaurant before committing an evening.

Forever one of my favorite bars. Bartenders always have treated me great, and even when it’s busy it’s just a very relaxed environment. Love the side room for pool and darts, and the covered patio. I have had some of the best nights of my life at this bar.

I really like Monarchs. Low-key and chill bar with cool vibes. The reason for the four stars is because the pathway to the bathroom can get crowded and drunk people just sit there and dont move for you LOL. The only recourse is to yell at the top of your lungs over the music and so then you are being rude.

Theres parking, not too crowded, some inexpensive beers, you can bring in your own food when they arent serving any. Theres pool ($1)and darts and a piano. Theres a backstory and several areas to sit.

Wonderful neighborhood bar, huge beer list, great staff and a selection of edible hot dogs! What more could you want? A patio? Pool tables? Theyve got those too!

Bartender had a good personality, our drinks were cheap, good, and served promptly.And, likewise, the food we got was good.In other words, our overall experience was good, and everything went smoothly.5 stars out of 5.

Terrible service. They were short staffed but we waited over an hour for someone to come back to the table. 3 out 4 meals were brought to our table and then there was a 20 minute wait for the fourth person after that... Then the tabs were completely wrong, twice....

Our bartender (for the record he told us his name but I am a chump and forgotwas awesome. Low maintenance, did not awkwardly make us include him in our conversation, but always made sure our drinks were full. A perfect mom-get-away wednesday evening at the local pub. ❤

This place is a jewel. Something that needs to be looked at, appreciated, and revered. The American bar will not die as long as places like the Monarch still ply their trade.

Descent cocktails, excellent beer selection, good vibes, 2 pool tables, outdoor smoking patio. All around a good place for a more chill night with some friends.

Great selection of beers - a lot of European options that are hard to find on draft. Free popcorn is a bonus!

A true classic bar. Nothing special, but it has a lot of charm. It has pool tables, a jukebox, and dart boards. Craft brews (I mean it is Grand Rapids). Everything you want with nothing you dont. Definitely swing by.

Not as many butterflies as I had expected. Still a good little pub style bar. The staff is always friendly and Greg, the bartender, is always good for a story. Ask him!

Monday night open mic night was entertaining to say the least. No emergency vehicles were required after all. A bonus was the surprisingly good beer selection on draft--had pineapple ipa by Vander Mill and Totally Roasted Nitro cider. This historic place rocks rhe old-world speakeasy vibe--a lovely gem in the city!

There is no place like a place you can feel this comfortable‼️❕‼️ However, we did have a friend who bit the dust when she got her heel stuck in the floor grate as she was leaving (really need to get that fixed)🤪

Came in on a slow Thursday night. Not the first time wevew been here, but damn was this time the worst. Bartender (Aliciacompletely forgot my dates drink order after getting me my beer, forgot to give her a food menu and then never even asked if she wanted to order anything after she finally got the menu. As I was waiting for my tab the bartender finished up her conversation about getting some pictures framed before even acknowledging that I was ready to cash out, though she knew I was finished and ready to go.

They have decent bar food, and its in a cozy old building on the West side of downtown. I went there for an open Mic night and listened to some great live music by talented local musicians. Someone brought their dog, an extremely well trained and calm animal, who only went to add to the homey atmosphere of the place. Id go there with a friend for a quiet conversation in one of the booths, but only between sets.

Stay classy. We went here for my guys birthday I believe. Not a lot of beer to choose from but they have board games, so Im okay with it. Recommend for board night or just to have a great night out in a different bar or area. This would be the shindig.

Drinks are fine, beer selection is pretty good but definitely stay away from the food! I ordered a grilled cheese and Ive seen better grilled cheeses made at 3AM by wasted college students. The side salad looked like toppings that come with gas station nachos.

Love this place! Always has a solid selection of draft and bottled beers. The food menu is impressive and affordable. Parking in back!

Service was great, drinks were good-- lots of choices. Red Lion Classic chili dogs needed something--the chili needs more of something, it was sort of bland. We would go back again

Free popcorn! Another great Westside GR staple that has been around forever and has some history. A favorite watering hole for locals. Solid draft beer selection and strong mixed drinks. New pool table room with 2 tables has been fully redone next door and is great for large groups!

Had a lot more seating than I was expecting! They have a game room too. Its a great choice when all your favorite bars on Bridge St are packed.

Great neighborhood bar with an interesting rotating tap list. Recently added a smoker for great meats, but I havent had the pleasure yet.

We love this place for after work, or even weekend night visits. Great atmosphere and the drink prices are great for Grand Rapids. Friendly staff and people. My favorite bar in West Grand Rapids.

They have lots of good local beers on tap, as well as some non-locals (Guinness on tap!). Games in the corner help keep things going. Good attentive service with lots of options. Ill be back!

$15 bucks for a burger and fries? No thanks! Food was ok but not worth the price of admission. The bartender was very polite and attentive, however.

Great little hole in the wall. Nice atmosphere. All the fun, without the heavy downtown super young crowd. Nice for those in their upper 20s and older. Option to sit outside too.

The Monarch has a very low key, relaxed atmosphere. They always have good beer on tap, and a friendly staff.

I could see this being an awesome hangout spot. But Saturday night and only one lady running the first floors SUCKS. She is doing a DAMN good job solo, so I dont blame her. Food is alright yet we were told earlier today they had the best Coneys in the area. Not so much when there was zero chili on the dogs. Come and drink a beer and youll be fine, decent draft selection. Again this is a good place, but not sure about the service choices. Lady behind the bar, good luck.
