Mon Plaisir - French Restaurant Covent Garden in Santa Cruz del Sur
Description
Privilege
Loved the cosy ambience, felt like I was in France 🥰 the duck confit was the highlight of the meal, and the apple tart tartin was amazing. Lovely service.
MoreThe food was good, the ambience was ok the decor looks tired. I wasn’t happy that the waiter was holding my plate with his thumb and he had his fingers on my plate and the worst part of it was he had dirty fingernails
MoreWe used to come to this restaurant years ago and were curious how it survived the past two years. The answer is exceptional. The decor has been updated and the menu very interesting with just enough choices to satisfy any preference. We had escargot, duck confit and veal medallions. All were done perfectly. There were four fresh fish choices and the cheese board looked amazing. Highly recommend Mon Plasir.
MoreOverall welcoming venue. I’m not sure I can say the same of the staff. We had to grab our wine bottle when moving inside while waiting for our table. Food was average good. The charcuterie platter not very fresh and sophisticated. Definitely expected more. The duck was good though. Expected a better service, felt like they didn’t care much apart from reserving us a nice, intimate table perfect for a date, which is what I specified in my booking. Don’t think I’ll go again!
More5 of us booked lunch yesterday.3 of the main dishes werent available. Entrecote, veal and duck. There were no French fries, we were not given an explanation why. A dreadful experience, my sea bass was appalling. What a shame that such a famous restaurant has deteriorated to this standard.
MoreGreat french food, had the veal, definitely recommend it!
Went here recently for a work trip - the food is to die for. Authentic French food surrounded by an intimate setting. The only downside was sometimes the wait times were a little long, but this probably is due to the fact we were in a large group so hardly grounds to complain!
MoreReally disappointing. We arrived and it took about 20 minutes to be served despite it being pretty empty. Waiter didn’t know the menu and couldn’t understand what we were asking. Pistachio ice cream was delicious, though!
MoreFood fine; decor and atmosphere absolutely terrible. No character or anything identifiable. Any characteristic has been erased. It was boring. Thank goodness for the company. I dine often alone, and can love it. I have been here alone dans les temps passés, but Not again if the restaurant is like this.I first came here twenty years ago. And many times since until I think even one or two years ago. Yes during the Great Unmentionably. Anyway, I’m afraid not again. Unless the place lifts its game. I felt short changed on my wine servings (poured without knowing anything of volumes and the like).
MoreLovely little restaurant in Covent Garden. I’ve been here twice now and the food on both occasions has been amazing. Tasty food, reasonably priced for central London and good service.
MoreFrench styled and inspired dining. Not sure how old the restaurant actually is, but it has a 80s feel. And that is not positive! Meaning: that it really is time to do an overhaul. Toilets definitely need work.Service was 50/50. We have spent quite a lot of time observing the bickering between the individual waiters/waitresses. One of them was tembling with anger about the behaviour of another one. All nice and easy stuff, but it is highly unprofessional showing that in front of customers. Flipside: the waitresses were super professional when serving food/drinksThe food was also 50/50. The steak tartare had way too much mayonaise. Any French chef who would serve a steak tartare like that would have been immediatly publicly flogged for murding such a classic dish.My porc shank was amazing and the sauce delicious. My daughters entrecote was OKish, but overcooked.Fries were send back since they were cold. All in all a 50/50 experience. In an area that has no shortage of good restaurants that is a dangereous outcome.
MoreNice - albeit confused - staff, but one of us got food poisoning from the meat. Not only that but they got us rare meat instead of medium. Scallops were good tho.
MoreWe arrived at Mon Plaisir (MPat 16.30 and was told food wasnt served untill 17.00. I told the waitress wed have coffee till 17.00 then order. At 17.10 I had to ask for a menu and our order wasnt taken until 17.30. My friend and I were sat outside and suddenly my friends trousers were caught on a nail sticking out the seat of the chair. It had torn a hole in her trousers. We told the waiter and he made a joke of the situation saying "Youre the problem" and he took the chair and moved it to another table when it was quite clearly a danger to anyone using it. This understandably caused some distress to both of us.....we ate around 17.45 and BE WARNED the food portions are SMALL. Luckily wed ordered a side which turned out to be more filling than the main. Finally we asked for the bill and told the manager who was a bit more sympathetic that the bloke we initially told. I asked for the optional service charge to be removed as a token of compensation but then again, thats only optional anyway. The manager took the chair away which the first bloke should have done. We were left unhappy and deflated by our experience here and wont return if were in the area again.
MoreAmazing food. Lovely decor. Love the dumbwaiter and ticket system. What makes it even better is that it is family owned and operated. We had the pork shank, duck leg and scallops and shrimp. All simply amazing and perfect. The mixed salads were huge for only 4.50£. Highly and strongly recommend this restaurant.
MoreVery disappointing! My main consisted of four small scallops topped with 4 king prawns accompanied with 4 very small asparagus. The scallops were bitter (over cookedand everything was far too salty. For £24 it was an absolute ripoff. I voiced my disappointment and only got an apology. Nothing was taken off the bill. Not even a free coffee. I was worried about being hungry so i agreed to share a bit of my friend’s coq au vin. Big mistake! It repeated on me all evening and my friend was sick when we got home!!!
MoreThis French restaurant serves simple cusine cooked to a high standard. Take a seat out side and watch the world pass by.
MoreNot bad, but quite frankly, the higher price reflects the location, not the overall quality of the menu. I don’t think I’ll be back, as I’ve had much better French food elsewhere. The place has character though!
MoreFamily run restaurant with delicious food and great atmosphere. Cured meat and cheese to die for! Cod and steak cooked to perfection. Mashed potatoes super delicious. We will definitely get back for another dinner! Thank you for spoiling us.
MoreI have been eating at Mon Plaisir for over 40 years but they have become super lazy about the food in every way. They are resting on their laurels. There is not enough creative food passion in the kitchen and the buying of basics like chacuterie and cheese is also not up to scratch. I am going to avoid them future. The kitchen has become technical and soulless. There are some very friendly young staff but it doesnt make up the shortcomings from the kitchen.
MoreThe reason I am giving 1 star (would give 0 if I couldis because we were blatantly lied to by the restaurant. My friend ordered the mussels, and after taking the order, the lady came to us from the kitchen and told us the mussels had sold out. We chose something else and forgot about it, until my friend, who speaks fluent French, overheard the table behind us ordering 2 mussels, and the same lady just said yes. Sure enough, not long afterwards, 2 portions of mussels were served up to the table behind us. Were not sure why we were denied the mussels - because we didnt speak French? Whats so special about the mussels anyway they had to be reserved for someone else? The food itself was ok for the price. In fact both main courses were too salty. We also didnt get a menu for a long time when seated, and they forgot our bill and we were kept waiting for ages. Our table was also just above the toilets and each time the door opened a waft of toilet smell could be detected. The experience was one of the worst I had had in any restaurants in the world and absolutely no next time.
MoreVery friendly and attentive staff - unusually so for a central London restaurant. They are really kind and make you feel very welcome - and importantly, they do their utmost to get you to the theatre on time! The food is good quality and well cooked - probably looking at upwards of £50 per head, not inc. wine. The onion soup was excellent - masses of cheese. The escargots were pre-shelled (which probably suits many diners!and swimming in garlic. Entrecôtes were cooked exactly as requested and the mussels for main course were lovely - a huge portion too. Recommended!
MoreGreat ambience and lovely service! Food was overall delicious, homey and comfort food! Would recommend and revisit again
MoreI went here for my birthday and my friend ordered a cake with a le candle as a surprise. The waiting staff sang happy birthday and was so sweet and beautiful. I had a beef dish made with skirt of beef (my favand the best crispy fries I have ever had. I dont know what the dish was but to this day in dream of it.
MoreLovely meal this evening (11 March). Seated without any problems despite not having a reservation. Staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. My fellow diner had sea bass and new potatoes. I chose duck breast in a honeyed sauce with potato and creamed spinach. Both dishes were an absolute delight. Cooked to perfection, plated beautifully. Bread was delicious, crusty and delicate. Pear sorbet with a generous slug of calvados rounded off a really enjoyable meal.
MoreGreat food, but the retro decor has gone beyond cute and into scruffy. The French onion soup was a great traditional dish, the sea bass was fresh and delicious, but the bread and butter felt like it came from a supermarket. The whole decor felt aged in a bad way and the toilets smelt horrible and were awful.
MoreConsistently wonderful meals here over the years. The duck confit was delicious, really perfect combination of flavors in the dish. The vacherin au citron was a nice dessert as well.
MoreBread, escargot, tartare beef, escalopes, Kir royal, wine Domaine Berthoumieu Madiran. All very tasty.Onion soup too sweet. Too much cheese. It seems like the soup has been cooked for British. It’s not exactly the original like in France.Service awesome. The lady who has serviced us was very nice, very helpful. She’s got a good sense of humour, as well. It’s not exactly France in London but we’ve spent an excellent time and probably we’ll return to the restaurant.Merci beaucoup, Mon Plaisir.
MoreWhat can I say my favourite French restaurant ever and I go to France a lot. I first discovered this place in my twenties and I try and get back there anytime I can. I love it there. Food is amazing
MoreReally excellent. Great atmosphere and very well executed food. Recommended.
Decor and atmosphere are simply wonderfulOrdered the onion soup and the duck. The onion soup was top-notch. The duck was sadly over-seasoned, but the texture was decentOverall a pleasant experience
MoreThe back room seat doesnt have phone signal and Wifi. Outside of Baguette wasnt crispy but it soaked well in Onion soup. Ordered Duck Confit and Pork Belly for main but all of them were incredibly salty, I regularly eat in french restaurants and this was not just "as its supposed to be". Sarcastic response to one star review (attachedis indicative of service. Expect that the high ratings are all pre-pandemic. Recommend avoid now.
MoreWe have been going to Mon Plaisir for years whenever we are in London. Today was a huge disappointment. The service was terrible. Part of that was not their fault; the kitchen was incredibly slow. However we were served by two girls. The older was in charge and was unable to ever smile. It was the opposite of welcoming. The younger one was completely inexperienced, but did at least try a bit harder. The main courses were al good. The tarte tatin was a disaster. The pastry was thin and tough, the apple slices were stewed and had not been caramelised. Only the ice cream was authentic and frankly it should not be served with tarte tatin Yes, Covid has taken its toll, but if you cant find someone to cook it properly, dont have it on the menu.
MoreAbsolutely stunning. The best French restaurant we have been to. Food was magnificent 👌Listening around us everyone was so complementary.. highly recommended.
MoreThe whole evening exceeded our expectation. The food was utterly delicious and wine recommendations superb. It is such a thrill to find a small Frenchindependent restaurant in London that gets everything absolutely spot on. Sabrine looked after us very well indeed and she is an asset to a first class establishment, we shall make a habit of visiting many times again Im sure.
MoreWhat a lovely place!!! My boyfriend (who is Frenchand I absolutely loved this place. The food, wine, service were all amazing and I would definitely recommended and will also absolutely be going again. We were really lucky to get a table outside without having booked :)
MoreI ate here last night, it was brilliant in all ways.Loved the venue, the staff were brilliant & the food was excellent. The menu isnt exhaustive, but that works in the dinners favour.A good range of French classics done really well. The wine list is excellent too.Ill certainly be back next time Im in the area.
MoreAbsolute gem !Been wanting to eat here for a while & it surpassed all my expectations. From the welcome to the farewell all was impeccable. Food wine & service from chatty friendly staff was spot on. Highly recommend this restaurant & cannot wait to return and bring friends. P.S If you go have the peas and bacon side .... 😋
MoreFood is tasty and "authentic". Restaurant is conveniently located.Service is typicaly French....slightly condescending but courteous.Bread could be free....Saucisson...can see through the slice !Duck confit was delicious.
MoreWent here for a belated birthday treat. The servers can speak to you in French or English which makes you feel very at ease and gives you the authentic feel of the place. The escargot was a first for me and I kinda expected them to be in shells but they were in just a dish full of hot oil. It was a shame but still delicious. I also had a duck which was very tender and flavoursome only thing is that it doesnt come with anything as a standard but you can order sides but I dont know maybe even a salad wouldnt of gone a miss. I would happily come here again though.
MoreThe staff were super attentive, friendly and accommodating, couldnt have asked for a better service ! The food was delicious and arrived in a timely manner. We had mussels (which we actually ordered again after we were finished with the first portion!and escargot for starters which were both yummy. For the main course I had the duck confit - the meat was super tender, moist and full of flavour. My partner had the rib eye steak which was also gorgeous and extremely soft inside. Just an overall lovely experience, 100% recommend. Thank you !
MoreI think I just found my favorite Frence Restaurant in London. Being looking for a place in London that has authentic bistro cuisine.I was not disappointed with Mon Plaisir, called up on the day and still managed to get a table for two outdoors. Had been wanting to visit this place for a bit and everything came into place today and at last I got to try them out.The food was parfait, we started with a basket of bread and butter, maybe not everyone’s choice as a starter but I love bread. I normally prefer traditional Frence baguette but the lighter soft crispy baguette we received was amazing. My partner opted for an omelet for her main course and I went with the sea bass, both were très bien. Has a side order of spinach with cream and washed it down with a glass of Côté du Rhône.We finished with a dessert of tart tartan and my partner had a passion fruit cake.Overall a great experience and we will be going here again very soon.
MoreI had the pleasure to take my son before lockdown for a nice meal as a treat. The welcome from the staff was very warm. We were running late and contacted the restaurant to explain this. The owner came to the phone personally and told us she would hold the table for us. We arrived a hour late... and she stuck to her word. Couldn’t of asked for better food and presentation. We were very impressed. It was fresh and very tasty. We will hopefully be back as soon as they reopen. Thank you for having us “Mon Plaisir” ... see you soon!
MoreLoved this place . Lovely food and setting but yet it felt completely unpretentious. The only comment i would have is the sheer quantity of wait staff, there were a lot and having many people standing watching you was awkward (they were lovely if not a bit over attentive).
MoreBeautiful french restaurant. Good customer service and gorgeous food. You feel like you are in France. The only disappointment was the toilet situation for my grandma as there was no toilet on the ground floor. Not suitable for disabled or elderly or those with physical impairments as place littered with steps etc.
MoreLovely restaurant with authentic French cuisine. Great choice for food and wines. Efficient waitressing by French speaking people. Your dish arrive in a very reasonable time after ordering.
MoreThanks to my lovely French friend who introduced me to here. I could be in France 🇫🇷for that moment. Friendly, comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. good service. Great value for pre theatre menu.
MoreFirst visit to this little french place. And won’t be the last. Wonderful proper french cooking and food. It was quite expensive still rounding out to £50 a head between four of us without dessert but well worth it. It’s not too noisy and not too dark and feels like you are in France. Vivre Mon Plaisir
MoreReally nice place for French food. Service was attentive and the duck was amazing! The coq au vin was a little dry though.
MoreVery good food, friendly and attentive service. Highly recommend if you want something unpretentious in the West End.
MoreQuite disappointed with our experience here. I was looking forward to celebrating my partner’s 30th birthday here, having read the great reviews. But we were quite disappointed. The moules were okay, big portion but they were not washed enough and so were very gritty. The duck salad was good. The escalope de veau was very salty, but the portion was decent. The most disappointing dish was the magret de canard. I asked for it to be cooked “rose”, which in french means rare; the waitress was french so I’m sure she did not misunderstand. As you can see in the picture, the duck was very well done and quite tough as a result. Very disappointed. Hugely disappointed with our visit in terms of the food, but we had an enjoyable evening as the ambience of the restaurant was great.
