Mommy Thai - Thai restaurant in Leeds, United Kingdom
Very poor, unprofessional service. Food ok.Ordered 3 massaman curries and 1 Khao Soi, received 1 massaman, 1 yellow curry and a Khao Soi. When I raised the issue with the service staff they told me it would be out in a minute, 25 minutes later it still hadn’t arrived. I raised it again and asked for some water for the table, they told me it would be out soon and brought a bottle of water with no glasses. After eventually receiving the food we were told by the lady at the counter that she can’t offer any compensation because the manager wasn’t in, a minute later the manager walked past and told us we could have the late food half price, the woman behind the counter wouldn’t stop smirking throughout our conversation with the manager.Wouldn’t choose to eat at this restaurant again solely due to the lack of professionalism in their service.
All down to service. You are open or you are not. Service rude and rushed. Ordered starters ahead of mains. Main came 1st. Whenever we raised an issue (where are the starters? Where is the cutlerywe were met with attitude. Food ok. But I expect to at least get a smile.
I like how they do set lunch menus and the portions are really good. Like the option of having the crispy pork on various dishes. Great choice for quick lunch
I eat here very regularly and always enjoy the food, its good value and mostly quick service, the staff are friendly tooI especially enjoy the tofu Khaow Soi
Best Thai food outside of Thailand.I go here at least once a month and the standards are always high
Very fast service; reasonable prices*; friendly and relaxed atmosphere. However, while the food had good portions, and it tasted fine, the dishes I had didnt taste particularity authentically Thai, at least not the same as they did in Thailand and other Thai restaurants Ive been to.*For main dishes the prices were very reasonable, though they charged me more for a papaya salad than for the main, which was a surprise.
Amazing little gem. Great food at amazing prices, smack in the middle of the city. Less than 5 mins from the train station. Great choice of foods that taste good and cooked freshly. Seating small so there might be a wait but the Thailand experience is defo alive. Oh they do take aways
As a Singaporean, its often difficult to find home dishes that taste authentic and dont cost a fortune - I was shocked to find Mommy Thai offering a lunch menu with a starter and main for as little as £7.95. I had the spare ribs and the Hainanese chicken rice and was amazed at how good it tasted, probably the best chicken rice Ive come across in the UK. If the food was average, I wouldve still been happy given the price, but for such a tasty and authentic meal, it really is a bargain!
Fast service, quite friendly, and well priced.
Food was good however service was terrible. We arrived at the restaurant 15.50 , which is 10 mins before the lunch deal ends but waited 15 mins untill served. They refused to let us have lunch deal and said we should have ordered before 16.00? Anyway, we still ordered and the food came out pretty quick. However my friends dish got hair in it which was not hygienic at all. It is a shame that service is horrible, I really hope that the restaurant will pay attention and take action to change.
Nice food, good interior decor but poor service. They have an offer on for a starter and a main if you order before 16:00. We turned up at 15:50 ready to order and they waited until after 16:00 to serve us, then refused to give us the offer.
Food is so delicious if you love Thai foodAlso the prices are very reasonable
Food was alright. Not so authentic. They look very good, but tasted different and not right. Maybe some other menus are nice.
Authentic Thai food with Thai chef xxx love it ❤️
Best Thai food in Leeds at great prices - lunch menu 12-4. Mango juice also great. Highly recommend.
Excellent food. You can try the meal deal so you can choose a starter and a main for around 7-10 pounds, which is a lot of quantity and really delicious.
Sitting in glorious sunshine at a pavement table. Very tasty basic Thai food. Loved it.No pretentious..one little issue .invest in some new tables and chairs. They are old and wobbly.lol
Yummy noodle soup! We ordered No. 68 Floating market noodle and 66 Tom Kha noodle soup with duck!Their soup broth is very rich and very authentic! £19 total!
I actually really really love the food at this place, it is one of the best Thai places in Leeds (in my opinion)! The service on the other hand does leave something to be desired… went in on a Monday evening, asked for a table of 2 and we were sat down upstairs, the first of (later4 tables in that area. Two more tables of 2 and a table of 10 were seated near us, at least 5-15 minutes after us.The waitress in our area went to both tables of 2 before even coming to us, and then when I asked one of the waitresses if we could order she said ‘I’m very busy you can order when I’m ready’, but she clearly had time to take an order from the other tables (I am a waitress myself and I know that often we have a list of things that we need to do in our head and have to continuously re-prioritise as we go along, but that never warrants rudeness!). She then went to the table of 10 who had arrived WAY after us, and took their order BEFORE ours. I caught the eye of a second waitress and asked if we could order, she sort of sighed and said yes reluctantly. When our food arrived we were not given napkins, cutlery or chopsticks and had to ask for them.0 complaints about the food, it is always brilliant so props to the chefs! Might suggest eating from here as takeout instead of dining in though!
disappointed service. perfunctory. The waitress (02has an amazing ability to understand. It felt particularly difficult to communicate with her and I really felt she was putting on a comical face on purpose. The waiter (05is good. Every table that arrived later than us got their food before we did. We told the waitress that we needed to check out but there was no response, but the table beside me was able to check out and leave promptly. 19:19 04/08/2022
rude and offensive staff. The waiter stained my friends clothes with coffee. Clothes are worth more than meals. Our appeal is to clean the clothes. The owner refused and only gave the meal a 20% discount. The meal was only £40. The store threatened us to call the police and said“ ur student right?if i call the police u will get into trouble." Can the restaurant explain how police is related to trouble for us legally accepted students.
racist staff. The waiter stained my friends clothes with coffee. Clothes are worth more than meals. Our appeal is to clean the clothes. The owner refused and only gave the meal a 20% discount. The meal was only £40. The store threatened us to call the police and said“ ur student right?if i call the police u will get into trouble." very funny, amazing experience:))
Came here with my girlfriend and the Pad Thai and noodle soup were actually really good! The drinks and service were nice too, however the problem was we asked to get a dessert takeaway as they were about to close. We ordered the Durian sticky rice pudding to go and on our way home we noticed something smelt bad. When we opened it at home the smell was so awful I had to take it outside and I thought maybe the fruit is meant to smell like that so tried and it actually didn’t taste too bad which is when I realised it was in fact the rice pudding that was off like rotten yeast. I went back to the shop to simply let them know what happened so they can be more careful it doesn’t happen again as can make someone sick. I didn’t want to make it a big deal but the lady I think was the manager was being extremely rude making me smell the Durian fruits which I said wasn’t too bad and I was trying to explain the fruit was fine it was the rice pudding that was rotten. This lady wasn’t listening to me and another lady behind the kitchen started being rude to me as well saying they make the rice pudding fresh every day which is great but doesn’t make sense why mine smelt and tasted like rotten yeast. There was obviously a mistake we were given one that had been sitting there too long which is fine, it can happen but the way the staff handled it being extremely rude after serving a rotten item that can be serious is not okay. It’s a shame because I actually enjoyed it until this happened and now I do not recommend this place due to this experience.
Absolutely dismal. Had to ask for a menu after ten minutes of being given a seat. Good came and there was no cutlery so had to ask for it as well. Starter was actually very good, then main course came and took me 25 minutes to chew one piece of duck before sending it back. Wouldnt recommend to my enemies.
Love Thai food but waited for too long for our food. Not happy -_-!!!
We’ve waited for 2 hours for a dessert and the manager blamed us for ordering this!!!!One of the staffs told us they sent the meal to a wrong table and the new one was ready, but then we waited for another half hour. When we reported to the manager, the manager blamed us for ordering this dessert because they need to cook it in another branch. It’s ridiculous!!! By the way other staffs are also rude and the meal doesn’t worth 40p😡😡😡
Best Thai food in the area. Fair prices for large portions. Highly recommend and will definitely revisit. However, we did have to wait some time for our food.
When you enter this restaurant you are transported to a Thailand. The decor is intentionally rustic with distinct Thai vibes. The second thing that hits you is the pungent fish sauce... Which if you dont like Thai food is not really for you. The food here doesnt disappoint, it is absolutely jam packed with flavour and great fun to eat. I will go again and recommend for anyone.
Delicious food and very reasonable! Had all this for 8.95. Very authentic inside too and family run. Lovely!
Thai street food served in a brilliant rustic setting. The interior is unlike anything you’ve seen before😂. For a moment you will forget you are in the UK. The food is very authentic. The price is unbelievably inexpensive 😂. Try the ginger tea! Tasty stuff. So many options to try. If I were living in Leeds, I will be a regular here. Great staff. Stick with 2-courses max cos the food portions can be large. Loveeeet!
Bit of a weird experience but the food was delicious! We sat outside, were given food menus but not drinks menus and left to it. The waiter came to take our orders but my partner wasn’t quite ready, still didn’t bring a drinks menu until he came to ask if we were ready to order again. We received our drinks and starter and then were asked to pay - right as we were eating our starters! Would have probably ordered more drinks later if not for odd service. My main - yellow curry with noodles - came first after the starter was cleared (side plates remained on the tablebut my partner’s which was a fried seafood dish with rice came 15 minutes later, we had to ask again for it and I suspect they forgot to cook it at the same time as mine. At this point my food was a bit cold. Admittedly the starter and both main dishes were delicious and both the cocktail and beer paired well. Toilet was a bit of a strange experience - just a door off the dining room, no mirror or hand drying facilities leaving you to squeeze past dining groups and a fridge, and dry your hands with toilet paper after washing. Glad we sat outside as inside was crowded, loud and hot, definitely couldn’t have had a meal there.
A Taste of Thailand without the travelAffordable, authentic, tasty, friendlyNo frills, great foodThe 2 course special of a starter and a main served together was excellent value and plenty of choice
2nd visit here and it was gorgeous!!!! Delicious food, speedy attentive service and well priced.
The lunchtime menu of a starter and a main for £7.95-£9.95 is amazing and the food is very tasty. Really nice for a lunchtime meet-up in Leeds with friends, definitely recommend
Simply the best Thai food in Leeds, it is not only super tasty, it is ultra authentic. I have always said that these posh Thai restaurants in Leeds are not in keeping with how Thai food is served in Thailand. This place nails it, fantastic Atmosphere, incredible service and the price is unbelievable. We missed the starter and main for £8 offer but still ended up ordering:5 starters4 mains8 drinksAnd the bill was still only £64. Unbelievable value for money. This is the Thai spot in Leeds, ignore everything else and get yourself to Mommy Thai.
Saturday afternoon happy hour included a starter and main for £7.95 which is absolute value for money!! Food was delicious and there was plenty of choice on the menu. Quick and friendly service! Indoor and outdoor seating, was lovely to eat outside on a sunny day. Cant wait to go again!
No frills Thai cuisine thats of very high quality. Been to a lot of Thais in Leeds - this was amongst the best, and easily the cheapest.Highly recommend the Penang curry and ginger tea! After 2 main courses and 2 soft drinks we walked away full, content and only £22 poorer.
Their lunch deal is amazing. Definitely recommend their pork. Will go again. 😍Large portions.Excellent quality and taste.Friendly staff.Their Thai Iced Tea with lemon is amazing. 😍Definitely recommend Mommy Thai.Recommend their:Thai Milk Iced TeaPork Pad ThaiQuick service.Affordable prices.
The Tom Yum soup is delicious and legit. The prawn crackers make a great starter for sharing. Loved the vibe, great service and friendly pricing.
Delicious food , inexpensive . Love every dish and the prawn crackers! Staff are friendly too , at busy time seating area are quite crowded and packed
I love the Mommy Thai food . It’s smashing. Great food, Great service, absolutely reasonable prices. The best Thai restaurant ever in leeds .
Delicious food, super value for money. Good staff & quick service. :)
On a impulse we ( my wife and I )pooped in for a quick lunch ! Thought we would try it out and must say very pleasantly surprised !Great food and with a very good variety ! The place isn’t massive in size at all . . So seating is limited but the service and food is fantastic
Are you craving Northern Thai dishes? Are you looking for Leo beer? Mommy Thai will transfer you back to Thailand. This is our favourite Thai restaurant in town. Their Northern Thai dishes are second to none. Located in the centre of the city, affordable price and delicious food. What else can you ask for? Our two favourite dishes are (1Larb Neur - Thai salad beef and (2Gang Om Gai - Thai Herb soup with chicken. Don’t forget Leo Beer to neutralise the hot food!
Food is sooooo good. We had the tamarind duck + rice (and asked for extra chillisand guay teow Tom yum (sweet and spicy noodle soup). It came with loads of meat and tasted like the real deal. Total meal for two mains and two small beers £24.
Cannot recommend this place enough! The food was incredible; just like what we had in Thailand! The staff were really friendly and accomodating. We went for the dumplings, ribs and fish cakes to start, followed by the masaman curry and sweet chilli chicken - all delicious!!
Food tasted delicious, service was super friendly! Honestly the best papaya salad Ive had outside of Thailand. Great restaurant.
Mommy Thai has been one of my most favourite places for Thai food. The restaurant takes us to a whole new world with its decor. The plates look authentic and you have option of chopsticks and fork. The only drawback I feel is that the restaurant does not have card payment. In the middle of pandemic, I would request to make card payment rather than keeping cash.
We like it here. We’ve eaten in most of the Thai restaurants in Leeds and this is our favourite. Small, but this adds to its charm. Sea bass is good. Sticky rice with mango or with durian is good for sharing too!!
Really good. They do a tofu option with all the mains for veggie/ vegans. Tempura vegetable starter was good - Thai green curry with tofu was amazing. My finance has lived in Thailand and he was impressed with the food here. The atmosphere is nice and the service is really good. Didnt have to wait too long for food. They do not accept card in here - this isnt too bad as there are a few cash machines down the road - it isnt totally obvious its cash only when you come in.
