Mombacho Volcano National Preserve in Jinotepe
Description
Privilege
I did the coffee tour, my guide was Harold Zeledon. Extremely knowledgeable about coffee plants and about green earth 🌎. He is bilingual and loves his job.
MoreA very nice place... charming, I had a great time with my whole family. 100% recommended
MoreIf you are staying in Granada or anywhere nearby its always a good idea to come to this reserve and learn a bit of the wonderful cloudy forest and the huge amount of animal and vegetal species that live in the reserve. Some species like the mombacho salamander are in fact endemic of this place and truly beautiful. Costs are a bit higher for foreign tourists than they are for local visitors but still totally worth it. Some trails require the service of a guide with extra costs but thats in fact a great plus because they are (normallyvery well documented, kind and very capable of answering questions about the reserve and its lifeforms. Totally recommended at least once in a lifetime.
MoreRip off.
Great place, specially the view on the top!!! All my family went.
An absolutely incredible experience!! The cloud Forrest is filled with plants and wildlife that are symbiotic. The guide was so knowledgeable, spoke perfect English for those of us lacking in Spanish skills and waited for the slower among us as well. Hiking this volcano is a must do activity. Be sure to get a boat tour of the lake islands that you can view from the top of Mombacho. Definitely dooooo the ziplining!!!! 🙏😂😍
MoreBellisimo
Amazing, great customer, food, cafe and guide service, i enjoyed the trails and the great views
MoreGreat experience at the top of the volcano. Great view from the top, and finished with the canopy
MoreAwesome place with unique landscapes and easy to access with great prices.
Best place to do ziplane great spot
Incredible destination... There were very few tourists and our guide Julio went above and beyond to share the diverse ecosystem that exists in the cloud forest. Feel fortunate to have been able to visit.
MoreGreat views, trails and overall magnific experience surrounded by nature.
Great outdoors. It was great to be sorround by nature. To see and hear the birds and the monkeys. It was a wild experience.
MoreThis place is gorgeous!! We hiked the volcanos and did the zip line tour. Highly recommend
MoreReally amazing view! Terrific.
Beautiful place where you can relax and take a look at nature.
Amazing small rain Forrest
Great hicking trails !!!!
We did the 6km walk from the entrance to the top, the walk is hard work and very steep. Took us 3 hours with breaks on the way but we saw some nice wildlife, howler and spider monkeys in the trees along the way. We did the 1.5km crater trail walk which was nice, but not alot of wildlife around to see which was disappointing. The walk back down is hard on your knees due to the steepness, we were lucky to get offered a lift half way down which was much appreciated.
MoreThe larger trails present some difficulty. Legwork and cardio minimums are required. Outstanding views and totally worth tours nonetheless! !
MoreWe hired a guide (Tigrefrom the park who led us to the top of Mombacho volcano. My family didnt have any problems on the path but I was nervous and not very confident. Tigre made sure I was safe the entire way up and then back down. It was an amazing day and quite an adventure!
MoreWe didn’t see all the volcano because it was cloudy (which is apparently frequent), although our guide was really nice and well informed about the park biological characteristics and it was pretty!
MoreGet ready to get your shoes dirty. Contemplate beautiful viewpoints and trek all around the crater of the volcano. A really good place to connect with nature.
MoreI was pleasantly surprised with this site. The hike was awesome esp the cloud forest. I learned about host and parasites living together in a tree. Also, the microclimate was amazing. We saw a porcupine as we ventured through the forest. The view was also amazing.
MoreBreathtaking cloud rain forest hiking around the craters and ziplining through the canopy towards the base! An absolutely perfect day trip!
MoreAmazing experience! Oasis to be relaxed by the nature..!
The splendid stratovolcano near to Granada has not erupted for a few hundred years. On the lower slopes there are coffee plantations that can be visited. The upper part has a unique ecosystem and can be explored on three hiking paths. It’s worth taking a guide (compulsory on the longer hikesto learn about the endemic flora and fauna of the cloud forest and dwarf forest. There’s also a helpful information centre. The volcano is a natural lookout with fantastic views.
MoreI was scared on the way up, very steep to get there. So beautiful once you get there. The path of the excursion is beautiful and the views are breathtaking. Friendly staff
MoreGreat, great trail to hike here. Some people took a bus... if one has the stamina it is worth it. At the top there is even more trails and natural gases arising out of the ground.
MoreThere are definitely stunning views of granada lake and Volcan Masaya and the jungle walk is so green and lush! I walked crater 1 which was low difficulty. I would love to take on the puma trail the next time I visit, which is a 4 hour hike to the summit! Life goals :)
MoreIncredible. Amazing vistas and cloud forests. Worth the hike.
You want to loose time and money ? Go there ! This is a tourist trap !!22$ for a 30min hike !! (el crater trail, the only one you can do without guidebut if you want to spend more money, you can pay more for an other trail but you have to pay a expensive guide too.Well instead to pay the truck 20$ for go up and down you can pay only 5$ and go by yourself but its very rude and takes at least 4 hours round trip.It DOESNT worth the money at all.
MoreIt is such a gorgeous place to visit! And we saw a SLOTH! Super close n cute :)
This is a dormant volcano so no steam or lava. The peak is often in the clouds and a chilly and breezy 60 degrees F. It offers awesome hiking (slippery stepsand breathtaking views that overlook Grenada and the lake. One of my favorite parts of this is the ride up and down with the crazy steep roads.
MoreI enjoyed the Mombacho tour but it was very cloudy on the day we went so there wasn’t much to see. Our guide was very personable and taught us lots but he was unable to prevent my husband from falling through a bridge when a board broke! They also did nothing about his very seriously injured legs and didn’t even follow up to see if he was ok. He went to hospital for X-ray and stitches and antibiotics with a driver arranged by the host of our lodge but nothing was offered from the tour company. Others we met in our travels also had boards break underfoot and felt it was not well maintained. Keep kids close and walk with care. Great views of caution is exercised.
MoreWould absolutely recommend hiking around the craters but do pay for the transportation from the bottom. The steep concrete hike with trucks passing you is not worht it. Also DIY: Take any bus to the direction of Rivas / Catarina and get off on the intersection close to the entrance. Walk or take a tuktuk from there, its really easy!
MoreCustomer service is great. The hike is incredible and the weather is great chilly pure nature wind. And the view is beautiful.
MoreAwesome experience! The nature is amazing! Worth the trip. If you have a 4X4, you can do a part of the drive alone. Otherwise they offer a shuttle service from the bottom $$
MoreBeautiful hike with a knowledgeable guide! We completed the Tigrillo trail and it was quite easy. If you are wanting to go on a slow, steady paced tour, take this for a go! Love the volcanos in Nicaragua!
MoreIf you are looking for an easier hike this is a great place with nice views including of Granada and Las Isletas. You will even see the occasional howler monkey or sloth and usually lots of birds. You can also take a longer and more challenging hike around all the craters. But you must hire a guide for the longer hike for $20 plus $6 a person.
MoreAbsolutely worth a visit. Beautiful and lots of opportunities to see wildlife like monkeys and frogs. Great views from the lookout points.
MoreAmazing views. I recommend the crater trail. DO pay for the transport up. The 7k walk up steep roads in the heat will destroy you... well it did us and were relatively fit.
MoreBeautiful national reserve, great place and tour guides. Food and coffee shop is good too. The views in the top are great and you can see the Granada little islands and the Nicaraguan Lake. Recommended to go for the day trip.
MoreNice mild hike (if your in shape). Beautiful views.
Very nice trail around the volcano crater rim offering exceptional views of the valley and the pristine crater. Take a guide to help identify all the amazing biological diversity found here. Not far from the parking lot, we found some red eye frogs. Bonne route!
MoreGreat place to challenge yourself and hike. Several trails to choose from and good views of the granada isletas and surrounding areas from the lookout points. Try making it to the top without taking the truck.
MoreRecommend paying for the shuttle up the visitors center. I did craters 1 and 2 . The second crater has some pretty steep terrain, you should be in some decent shape to make it up.
MoreHad a really good experience walking (with a guide which seemed much better because then you dont have to work with allot of other peoplethe tiger trail was perfect for our family of 5 the maximum amount you can have is unfortunately 7the views wore fantastic and I had a really good experience
MoreIt is an amazing forest and you can observe how this forest makes water, beside u can admire the spectacular view of the citi of Granada and its 300 islets on the magnificent Cocibolca lake.
