Seafood, all kinds of meat, olives, spices… you can find it all and more at this beautiful market. Everything looks fresh and tasty especially the fruits, just as they were brought here straight from the orchard. The prices seem a little bit higher than on the other markets in the city but location and the size of the Modiano pay it off.

There was lots and lots of fresh fish and olives and meat and a bit of everything actually. Its not like a fancy market to sit down and eat lunch , its an actual market to buy food and everybody shouts in greek something trying to sell you their stuff. 😳 not really relaxing but Ive seen fish never seen before so worth a visit for me

Bear in mind the historic building containing the main market is currently closed for refurbishment (as at October 2020although the markets sprawl across a wider area and there’s still plenty to explore and enjoy. The neighbouring building contains some restaurants, the best of which may be a place serving excellent ‘mageirefta’-type food (home cooking not made to orderfor bargain prices. It’s called To Paradosiako, which means ‘traditional’ and is a very common name for food establishments in Greece, so don’t bother Googling it as this place has limited online presence and instead you’ll find a load of other places elsewhere with the same name. Once you’ve found it, you’ll be invited into the kitchen and shown a multitude of pans containing food that’s been prepared earlier - just point at what you want. We struck gold with the vegetable and bean dishes in particular.

Thessalonikis traditional and oldest market. Similar to a souq or pazari, many shops span decades and sell traditional and deli products.

Turn into Modiano and youre walking into the past, thousands of years of Macedonian Greek and Roman times and tradition fused into one single traders agora/forum. Things have been done the same way in this place generation after generation for thousands of years. And the products are local, guaranteed, fresh with an amazing range. If youre from northern Europe, you might not find the market always pleasing to the eye or the nose. However, be sure that it will be an experience to remember.

A true Turkish bazaar in middle of Thessaloniki. A really beautiful and cultural experience. You can find there everything from clothes, exposed fish of all types, spices, to souvenirs, and many many other things. People are yelling trying to sell their products, bargains everywhere truing to low the price,.... Really amazing and unique experience.

Do not confuse the Modiano Market with the Kapani Market close by, as almost all reviewers do.The Modiano Market is totally closed since month.Nobody knows, what will be. The shops, cafes and stands are all closed. This attraction can be deleted from the list. What a pity.

I have so many memories of this place. The fresh produce section; the fish section was amazing, with vendors with strong voices: fish from Epanomi, fish from Mihaniona.. What an amazing chorus... The meat section with hanging fleshes, not politically correct these days but from animals raised in farms without hormones etc.It was closed due to renovations.but when it reopens it will will be an amazing attraction to both locals and tourists. A monument to the Jewishness of the city and to the prosperous old Jewish family of Modiano.

Great market to buy a lot of food back home. Be careful of pickpockets so don’t keep anything of value in your pockets. The market offers a lot of fresh fishes, all kind of olives, Greek/Turkish delights and sweets, and also clothes.

Modiano Market is an enclosed market in Thessaloniki, Greece. It was built between 1922 and 1930, in the center of the city and forms the central point of the citys market which encompasses over several blocks. It took its name from the architect Eli Modiano, a member of the well known Italian-Jewish Modiano family of the city.Inside the market there are fish markets, butcher shops and tavernas. It is a place of social meeting and historical significance for the city.

I love walking through this market, just for the atmosphere. This market is tucked away in the heart of Thessaloniki City with entrances from a number of streets including the Aristotelus Promenade.Pram and wheelchair friendly, alleys are quite narrow and cobbly, but flat. You can find everything at these markets, Foods, Restaurants, clothing, gifts, shoes, bags, gifts, Holy Icons, Greek Coffee Bars, Delicatessans. There are no ATMs at the markets themselves, however there are ATMs on the Aristotelus Promenade.Be careful of the hawkers at some of the entrances and do not get distracted by them please guys.It is open every day of the week except Sunday.Good idea for tourists to use a belt wallet under your shirt or a lockable backpack.Dont haggle too much please travellers. The prices are ridiculously cheap already. The fresh fruit, and supply of freshly roasted nuts is exquisite at this market. It would be really sad if you came to Thessalonki and missed a walk through this bustling little market.Have a great holiday guys.Chrisse F, November 2018

Street market where you can find lot of stuff. Good fish market, carpenters made chairs, souveniers, cloth and so on.Prices are low and reasonable. Even you can trade a bit. People are friendly and wellcome you.Market spreads on several streets and devide by thematic zones. So if you cannot find something ask, most of people knows english and are helpfull.

The market was rather deserted, as far as the "true market" area is concerned... For some market action it is better to cross the street...Still, there are some rather busy restaurants inside the covered market area...
