Mkonge Hotel - in Tanga, Tanzania
Stopped over for one night stay. Got an interconnecting room, ideal for families. Decent service including the food which was tasty. The beds were comfortable with clean linen along with towels available in the rooms. Located near the ocean, though, I dont think there is access to the beach. Reasonably priced. I recommend this place
Old colonial hotel that definitively need a rennovation. Regular power cuts, almost feels as if somebody is playing with the light switch. The staff makes the impression as serving clients is something they do not enjoy and any requests the customer makes is a big thing for them to do if they do it at all.Food: Food is ok, nothing special. Compared the excellent pizza place across the road, the food prices in Mkonge Hotel are expensive, especially if the quality is taken into account.ROOM: Mold in the bathroom all over the place. Only cold water available for shower. Wifi is cutting of every few minutes and takes forever to reestablish after the power cuts.
The ambience is superbVery poor servicesWe waited for our order almost 2hrs and didnt receive any
One of a kind the sea breeze was amazing 😍
One of the oldest well maintained hotel in tanga
Nice huge garden for dining...food is also good rated on a 7/10...
Good oneMasha Allah
Stopped by this place for a few cold drinks before we hit the road. The view was kinda ok but not the best.. I’d suggest you try the nearby Yacht Club instead.Asked the waiter if we could by card and she agreed.. when we’re about to leave the receptionist says we can’t pay by card and that we should try pay via M-PESA instead by dialing *150* something something # .. anyway, it wasn’t working so after a lot of back and forth she finally agreed to run our card and it magically worked 😒 .. I have a feeing they were trying something fishy or the hotel has a policy to avoid card payments..maybe because of the charges.Horrible WiFi and the place is in need of a renovation asap.Would not visit again if I had an option. Also, there really isn’t much to see/do here.
Ended there by accident....but I did extend my stay. Understaffed when at full capacity but non the less the staff are kind and willing to go an extra mile to make you feel welcomed.Rooms needs a decent scent service....to get a 5 star.
Very good food and excellent service...the waiters were very quick and helpfull especially william big up
Very clean, good size rooms, reasonably priced 120k for double inc breakfast. Staff were very polite. New AC installed.
Very friendly staff, no complaints about the service.
Its a nice place but the swimming pool is a bit not too good and its often crowded
Fantastic Ambience, great Rooms with great Air Conditioning, Friendly Staffs, excellent place for Family and Friends.
Ambience is good . Needs renovation . Food disappointing, not up to standard.Staff 50/50. Few are friendly.
Zero ratings. The staff are third class, their service is zero. Poorly managed though the food is tasty n portions r big. V ordered fresh juice, it never came.
Nice sea view. Good food. Ambience atmosphere.
The place is good but they a big renovation of the hotel, they need to emphasize on that otherwise customers will run away!
Its a good hotel....we have enjoyed staying with my Family for Christmas Holiday
Thanks MKONGE for great fully stay, we spend three nights and we had nicely Room 106 with the full of flowers 💐, it was so romantic 😍very clean, thanks to the ladies in charge for the rooms they are so lovely and friendly,🙁Waiters they need to improve their servicesAnd we hope to come back soon.Grace ❤️❤️
One of Tangas iconic places to visit.
Food need to be improved
Went to eat snacks, so had ordered potatoes bhajias. I wouldnt believe what I got on my plate! thought I got rest overs. No taste att all. Service was bad too. Had to call someone several times. Too many mosquitos n the lighting was bad too so we didnt stay for long
I wish there is - star very bad room with no cold water at bathroom also wifi cant reach the room .. about food there is no prawns we order beef also beef not well done we give it to the cat ... not recommended
Beautiful hotel, with swimming pool and restaurant, located to ocean, but ooops you cant pass to te ocean it warn place
Old and still the best.I should gave them less stars as the waiter tried to game me a fake bill. But still even after 20 years for me this is the best place to come for lunch and drink up in Tanga. The ambiance is amazing. In 20 years I have been here 3 times and still take pics when ever I am here.
Ive stayed there twice while on business. The power was not reliable in the evenings. The food was okay, not great but okay. The worst part was that they charged me more than my counterpart from the MOHSW because I was obviously a foreigner. Even after she complained that my bill was higher than hers the manager didnt care. Never stayed there again.
Mkonge was the first place I went after being indoors from an injury for weeks! To be that close to the ocean, chewing on some of their peanuts that they garnish with curry leaf from a tree right at the hotel was lovely!
A beautiful old hotel from 1951 that was built by the English Consul. After independence from Tanzania it was operated as a hotel and expanded in the 70s. Today it is a well-kept hotel with a beautiful park and clean Swanepoel. Entry costs 5,000 TSH. - It fits. The view of the bay in front of the harbor is fantastic. The restaurant is top class. Personnel could be more experienced and professional. The Roms kost 50USD.
Nice hotel to relax, my kids liked the swimming pool and we paid 4,000 for kids and 5,000 TZS entrance fee, but they only accept cash.
Breakfast was good. Very affordable. Nice garden and views over the harbour area.
Old place needs a bit of a makeover but comfy enough to stay. Service was not to bad. Food was okay but the service was slow
I believe hotels are all about quality customer service. And since this is falls under the term "hospitality" hotels are required to be hospitable by default. Quality customer service should apply to all areas of the hotel, starting from reception all the way through. The hotel staff was not friendly at all. They hardly smiled! For someone who had visited Tanga for the first time, Id rather say it was a horrible experience. The rooms werent clean enough and neither were the toilets. The food waiting time was longer than expected and the waitresses would forget bringing any additional orders. I strongly recommend serious improvement as it spoils the hotel reputation.
The gardens are awesome and nicely manicured and lit at night. Old but nicely maintained hotel. Service was really good. Was there for dinner.
It is such a cool place to chill, less populated. While your there you will enjoy nice meals, beautiful Indian Ocean view and a very big swimming pool
Good Indian cuisine. Rooms are good but woke up to a cold shower. Not really the best way to start the day. Just thought that if you are paying that amount you would expect a hot shower. Also drain was blocked which I noticed after patiently waiting for the hot water.
Not worth a second visit, the food is mediocre and over spiced.Prawn dish, could not taste anything except heavy spices and chilliWould have been nice to taste the food !Maybe the chef was having a bad day but the manager didnt seem to care when mentioned it was way too hot
A very well located resort having wide spaces to sit out or party facing the sea. Courteous staff and mix of Continental & Indian cuisine makes it a delightful stay any season.
Takes a while to get your food but absolutely worth it. Service is nice but they are clearly understaffed - this is not the staffs fault. Food is very tasty.
Spacious rooms, with airconditions. Large gardens and a beautiful sea view.A well kept swimming pool with life guards.Staff quite friendly.A good place if your looking for relaxation , calmness and peace.
Super friendly staff! Great English speakers! Nice views over the ocean and the yacht club. Big swimming pool and massive garden in which you can hang around. Only had two dishes there and they were good. Nice place to spend the day relaxing. Dont know about the rooms though.
No hot water in the bathroom. Broken shower. Beautiful location. Hotel has excellent bones and would benefit greatly from some TLC. Breakfast was decent.
It is a very good place where you can get fresh air,food,tea/coffee,soft and hard drinks, there is a garden where by you can see the beach there are good rooms nd affordable etc it is located on your way heading just infront of Popatlal secondary school on your right hand side
Was a good surprise taking to consideration the reviews the place had received but was welcoming and so spacious...good and well maintained grounds and a perfect environment for a stay with kids as the hotel staff are very friendly and accommodating.A beautiful and well maintained pool makes a good point for a hot relaxing afternoon. Its a walking distance to Yacht Club club for a boat ride to the Island and round the Ocean.Wish there was more selection on the breakfast buffet but the fruits were fresh and fruit juices too.
A restaurant located at a very nice place. I had a very good vegetable salad here, fresh mango juice and huge portion of vanilla ice cream. The coffee was instant, toilets dirty (which is quite usual, but at an upper-class hotel, it should not beand price quite high, therefore only four stars
The hotel is set in pleasant grounds with sea views and outside dining facilities. The staff are very pleasant and welcoming. The rooms are however very dated and the bathrooms in need of complete refurbishment. On the plus side, the bed was comfortable and a fridge was provided.Hot water is from solar energy and it takes a while to run warm. There is low water pressure in the shower which was also very grubby.
Large gardens. Sea view is similar to garden view due to surrounding gardens. It is necessary to keep gardens clean.Nice breakfast with hot Indian menu items available.
One of the good hotel to stay in Tanga facing the sea view. Also there is a big garden for resting during the day time where you can have Lunch and Dinner at any time at this place. Swimming pool is available also and the staffs are very friendly.
I stay there whenever I visit Tanga because they serve very nice breakfast. The place is somehow decaying unless the owners do some uplifting especially the bedrooms. They can start by reducing accommodation price rates
Must have been a glorious place back then, now its all run down. With some major renovations, it will become great again. The staff are very friendly but hated the many cats that expect you to share your meal, they are so aggressive and such an inconvenience for some of us who fear them
