Works by contemporary Montana artists, plus changing exhibits of national & international art.
Missoula’s creative vibe is strong, and its small art museum was a great stop in our tour. Todd Forsgren’s photographs revealed a wonderfully active and imaginative brain. Marilyn Lysohir’s Dark Side of Dazzle was a deeply personal story told through a demanding creative effort that still speaks. Definitely worth a visit just off Higgins while touring the galleries and the public markets.
Always meaningful exhibits
Daughter took a class and had a blast. Also a great place to experience all the arts!
Small but definitely worth a visit. The art was powerful.
Loved the Brian Maguire "In the Light of Conscience" show and the native American exhibit.
Free access museum with great art
Cameron at the Missoula Art Museum gave my students an excellent tour last week. He was responsive to them and the intuitive nature of his questions was expertly planned. Thank you Missoula Art Museum for continuing to have quality art exhibits and especially promoting and supporting our native and emerging artists in Montana.
Awesome place to visit while in Missoula! It was free entrance when we wentOnly downside is parking can be hard to find, but that is down town for you.
A small ish modern art museum currently featuring a range of artists from a Warhol-esque local native artist, to more high concept abstractions and in between. They sponsor teens art as well. Seems like a great place to keep an eye on for fun local and northwestern art. Theres a cool educational component to one of the shows at the moment as well: three artists doing work about bark beetles, which includes info on their behavior and threats due to global warming.
Pretty neat exhibits, many hyper-local, for free in a very manageable space
quite and calm environment. interesting art work. a library consisting of art books. small book shop. great 40 mins spent. thank you people who made this place possible!its free to visit!
Many good shows. Locally operated. Local artists and national show presented.
Awesome. There are lockers available to lock your stuff. Very peaceful inside.
Loved the exhibits. Very nice.
Great little art museum! Its free, so you really cant complain. While it isnt huge and there are only a handful of galleries here to look at, the quality of the content here makes up for it as it is definitely inspiring!
Nice museum, on the smaller side so it doesnt take long to see everything.
So good. And free!! Not-to-miss for lovers of arts and culture.
They regularly rotate in new displays. Such a cool place. And its FREE!
M.A.M. was a unique and exciting place to visit! Its a totally free place in a world of were free stuff is few and far between the children painted their own paintings and the exhibits were extraordinary!
Loved the Bartow exhibit, so well curated, so much good work in a single gallery!
Hidden gem in downtown Missoula - free admission, but please make a donation! Excellent rotating exhibits and a wide variety of art mediums through the museum.
Its a wonderful place to visit with the family or alone. The staff is incredibly knowledgable and helpful and the fact that admittance is free is not only amazing but it says a lot about the vibe of the city. Everything from local artists to world-recognized pieces can be viewed here. Donations are not required but they are highly appreciated. The displays are held four months so you are able to visit several times a year with a new experience each time.
Very enjoyable. Also very quiet, which is nice. Displays change roughly every 3 months.
The exhibit with sculptures, music, instruments, and photography about crossing the border was awesome
This place is amazing. Its completely run by volunteers who are intrested in art. The show rooms feature a wide range of artists and materials. When I was featured as an artist, they were very professional and helpful. The museum has free admission, and you cannot have food or drink inside.
Caveat that I am a huge modern art fan:I can see how this museum wouldnt be for everyone, but I loved it. The indigenous art in the permanent collection is excellent (and, as another commenter who wasnt so positive explained: some of it is displayed by the restrooms - check it out!). The temporary exhibits were curated very carefully and thoughtfully; I really loved the experience. Anyone who loves modern / local / folk art should definitely visit. The staff are friendly and helpful too. I will definitely be back!
The best exhibit were old bar portraits by Lee Nye. Small free museum. Very friendly staff.
We were just walking by and decided to stop in. It was a nice surprise. We enjoyed our time viewing the exhibits.
Modern addition a perfect counterpoint to classic original Post Office. Love the wood lath General Lee sculpture juxtaposed again a grand piano.
Free, professional and spacious. Friendly staff and thought provoking art exhibits.
Located in the beautiful city of Missoula, Montana, this gallery of varied art expression is wonderful. It is located downtown and street parking can be challenging. However there are parking structures located only a few blocks away. The admission is always free but donations are accepted. It is three levels of galleries that are diversified as Missoula itself. Please come and enjoy the talented artists wide ranging exhibits.
I will not rate this museum based on my taste in art; it would be fewer stars on that basis. However, the presentation is quite tasteful even if I think much of the art is a bit contrived. It is free and worth checking out if you are in the area.
Best museum in Wesstern Montana!! Beautifully curated shows with diverse artists, subjects and mediums. In the heart of downtown Missoula.
Wonderful museum, and admission is free. MAM often supports and exhibits local artists.
Beautiful quiet space with beautiful local work. When we were there two installations that were amazing.
MAM is a gem in the middle of Missoula. A free art museum with programs, exhibitions, and unique art that you wont see at other art venues. Always a great experience to visit the museum.
This is a truly fabulous Museum. Not to be missed if youre in Missoula
It was free, but the art wasnt very good. We enjoyed the art by the bathrooms more than anything else. One exhibit was huge, but consisted of the same thing of every wall and a giant tic-tac-toe board with the wrong number of Xs and Os. Maybe I just dont get art.
All contemporary art which doesnt generally appeal to me. Ok, if you like that kind of thing. But not a large museum.
Great museum. Went with my brother and his kids and had a good time.
Great little museum thats curated very well, always can find something interesting on display.
Went to an opening reception, was an awesome place, will visit it again, great architecture, beautiful art.
Amazing free resource to the people of Missoula. Check out the library upstairs for reading a good book!
A good gallery but needs more art flow. Been there for a while and most of the same prices are still up. Lots of space and great art!
Fantastic and fun exhibits of contemporary art. Its always something new and wonderful.
Small art museum. Well put together. Best part is interactive room on second floor.
Wow. What a great gem. I happened by simply because we parked nearby. If you are nearby you must stop by; you will not be disappointed. There are a variety of historical and contemporary pieces. The staff was welcoming and inviting. Many pieces really made me think. Please go. It is free but please drop a few bucks in the donation receptacle.
The galleries are always changing, there is always something new, but you have to like art. I really loved the Ansel Adams showing, when it was here. It is a really nice space and generally has a good flow through the displays. Bonus: It is free, they do accept donations.
Everyone is so friendly and helpful, while allowing quiet time for appreciating the works of art. There is always something to learn while visiting the MAM.
Beautiful, unique, and varied artwork is housed in a beautiful, unique, and varied building with a donation-based admission that makes it accessible to all. Theres always something unique and unusual on display, and although the artists usually arent world famous theyre certainly well-respected and usually very important to the area. You can spend a good hour or two admiring the artwork, and the museum is definitely worth checking out. Modern facilities and a small gift shop, as well as classrooms for school and community classes and events add to the flair.
