Miradouro da Vista do Rei - Observation deck in Ponta Delgada, Portugal
You can see the set cidades from the top then drive down and see the lakes. Very relaxing.
Just stunning 🤩 as with most places on São Miguel, we’ll kept & free to park viewpoints. Recommend.
Oh my world. I dremt to see this view. Loved every moment ❤️
A picture is certainly worth more than a thousand words.
A must place visit if your in the Azores. I took the bus from PD to Sete Cidades and walked from the town up. The views are amazing and they have a food truck up here for food and drinks.
Incredible views over the lakes. Youre not supposed to go into the abandoned hotel but a lot of people do and the views from the old hotel rooms are incredible. The car park is quite small and was very busy, however there is a second parking area in the wooded area beside the front of the old hotel.
A nice view for taking a break!
A beautiful view. Parking can be tricky, we couldnt find a space, had to drive further and walk back on the street which is not secure. If possible go into the Monte Palace Hotel ruin and up to the roof as the view is even better.
Just beautiful even on a cloudy day.
Theres a great hike (very steep and challenging)down into the lake, and up a ridge. Also a nice hike behind the paid parking.
Do not miss this Miradouro. Its spectacular. It is often completely cloudy so change your plans to drive there when its clearYou can park along the road just past the abandoned hotel up to 30 minutes or if you drive a bit further there is long term parking a short walk away.
We were here at the worst possible weather, but had great fun. Did not see the two lakes, only one huge lake of fog:However, it was amazing seeing the clouds racing over the ridge, the spooky abandoned hotel, the fact that it was raining only on one side of the ridge, not on the other, so we strolled a couple of times from the dry side of the road into the rain curtain. The viewpoint has toilets (no paper, but clean enough), and plenty of parking spots. We also had a nice burger at the Food & Friends food truck that offered some shelter from the rain and the food lifted our spirits even further. Still, hope to see the lakes from this point one day:)
Wonderful views from the top of the world!
Parking for 20 minutes only. There is also small shop with souvenirs. For better view I recommend taking very short trail until the first turn to the left. Trail starts at the end of the parking lot to the right, its red gravel road.
Nice view of the lakes. On a sunny day you will see the different colours of the lakes. It isnt allowed to access the deserted hotel. Some tourists still go in though to make their "unique insta-posts"...
One of the best spots to enjoy the view over Sete Cidades.Check the webcam first on spotazores before going! There are 2 short stay parkings right next to the viewpoint and a long stay one 1 km after. The suggested hike from here is average.
Great view, worth a visit!
It was a very beautiful trail. Many incredible views. But after some walking the trail was on the road with many cars.At the beginning there was a side walk where you could walk on but then sometimes you had to walk on the road.Other than that it was very beautiful and worth it.
The view is just FABULOUS!You can also find an abandoned hotel in this place that has a very interesting story.
Nice place nice island friendly people
On a bright day this is a spectacular view. Whether the two lakes should have different colours I allow to question 🙂 But really worth seeing when not a cloudy day.
Awesome view of Sete Cidades, ESPECIALLY after waiting almost an hour in cloud cover at Miradouro da Boca Do Inferno. Im so glad we left there and stopped here at Vista Do Rei. It seems like theyve recently done renovations with more parking, and bathroom facilities. I know in some travel videos, people like to go into the abandoned hotel, but the view from here was just fine for us.
This is probably the most popular and well-known image of the entire group of the Azores Islands. If you come across any tourist promotional material for the Azores, be it in print or web-based, the chances are you are going to see the images taken at the Miradouro da Vista do Rei (Kings Way Observation Pointin the Sete Cidades (Seven Citiesoverlooking two crater lakes ("Lagoas das Sete Cidades"), both located within the volcano crater; they are referred respectively by the color of the waters: blue, reflecting the sky ("Lagoa Azul"and green, reflecting the ground ("Lagoa Verde").However, be advised that the beautiful colors of both lakes are not necessarily what you are going to see; it is strictly weather-dependent. As more foggy or cloudy the day of your visit is, both visibility and colors will be affected. That doesnt take away the inherent beauty of the location, but please be prepared not to get disappointed.5 stars indeed. Should be your priority # 1 while touring the island of Sâo Miguel.
Breath taking. A must if you go to Sao Miguel Azores. If you decide to vist the abandoned hotel, vista del Rei.Dont forget it doesnt have a roof so the ground floor is wet and slippery. But the stairs to the roof are in very good condition. If you get to have a sunny day. You will be amazed at the shear beauty.
When you come to São Miguel, you have to come to Vista do Rei. It‘s as beautiful as it looked in all the guide books you read. Just make sure you check the webcams for the right moment to visit, or you could end up looking at clouds. When we were there, you couldn’t really see different colors of the lakes, but who cares?! Just take in the beautiful view. The car park at the miradouro fills up quickly but you can only stay 20 minutes anyway. Much better to park at the long stay car park 10 mins walk away or at the roadside just before reaching the ruin of the hotel (coming from Pta. Delgada, 30 minutes free but I stayed longer and nobody cared).
We had some fog so returned a second time and got a nicer view! Worth it :its actually nicest on the road from the parking lot (long durationto the real vista do rei
We didnt hike but drove to the top by car a stunning view over the lake luckily for us the weather wasnt foggy we enjoyed the view , down at the lake , there are boats you could rent for cheap prices.
This time I didn’t see much , I drove all the way to the top but weather very foggy! Had to focus on the road!
A wonderful view on both lakes and a great area for hiking. We did a circle hike down the hills and across the valley back to the car on the top. Half of the route leads through a path directly on the mountain ridge - a superb experience with great views. I can strongly recommend a stop by and little hiking adventure (roughly 12km).
The main (or best known, at leastof the view spots for the Sete Cidades Lagoons. Super spot for photographs. Good luck with the weather!
Awesome place to watch out over the Sete Citades and start your hiking trail. You can get in the old abandoned Monte Palace Hotel when you search the secret entry. Heaven on earth for those urban explorers.
One of the most beautiful trails Ive ever done in my life! It takes around 2 hours from start to finish and I even enjoyed the way back😀I recommend to start the trail before 8am as most of the trail is exposed to the sun and you may run into trouble finding a parking spot. You can either park near the abandoned hotel or drive a little bit further and park right at the beginning of the trail (aka vista do rei).
Fantastic short stop for breathtaking views. Clean public toilets available. Free parking 1min away from viewing platform.
This was hands down my most favorite spot. There is a easy hiking trail and the best pictures are taken along the street across the abandoned hotel. We were here last week (21.7.21try to go whenever the weather app predicts the best weather. Otherwise it’s cloudy and not so pretty. When we went it was a little cloudy but then cleared up beautifully. Check the Webcams online as well to see how the visibility is :).
In foggy weather to see little. The fog is moving very fast here. When there is no fog, there is a great view of the lakes.
Amazing view of Setes Cidades. Very beautiful even on a foggy day. We went on a trek when, at the start, the view is very foggy. After the 2-hour trek, the view scene was super clear and magical!
What a spot! Sete Cidades or Lagoon of seven cities. 2 colour lake with some history behind it. We were there in November and got this stunning view! Also abandoned hotel is located here. Unfortunately, we didnt go there, but from the pictures, its worth to see, feel the atmosphere.
Again, one of the most famous and beautiful places in São Miguel, has view over the two lagoons and its located just by the abandoned famous hotel "monte palace" for sure a must :)
Beautiful and picturesque! Easy to get to. Just drive park and walk 1 min to the viewpoint. Theres a food truck there for yummy snacks and drinks!
What a view!!! Such an amazing spot to have a panoramic view of the lagoons of 7 Cidades! You only have to park the car close to the Lagoa do Canário, and then hike roughly 900m to this spot. The trail is so nice, you go though a dirt path surrounded by beautiful trees. Please avoid taking the car through there, it just takes the magic away from it, and you sort of ruin the magic of other hikers.
Beautiful view of the lakes, weather permitting. The fog rolls in fast, but can clear up just as fast. We spent about an hour there. It was somewhat foggy when we arrived, but cleared up before we left.
This has to be the most popular viewpoint of the island and its definitely worth the drive. On a sunny day you can definitely see the two lakes with an amazing view. The bathrooms up there are also very useful- bring your own toilet paper though! You can also hike it and enjoy the nature and view.
What I liked the most is not just the view itself, which by the way is stunning, but the trail that starts from here and combined with a second one make you walk all around the big cratere. The trails combined are long, almost 20 km, since you have to walk along the main road to connect the starting point with the finish. The total steep in not much, 300 hundred meters, but there are several up and down so the real trail is at least a medium level, you need some willing to complete it!The view is just amazing, the day I’ve been there was sunny, the air clear, and the fresh air from the ocean was so welcome. We needed 4 hours from the miradouro do rei until the car park near the aqueduto do Carvao.
Epic landscape. If youre feeling adventurous, take a walk to the abandoned hotel (its easy to find, its right across the street from this lookouttake a walk up the stairs to the roof and you will be rewarded with a similar perspective as this place, but from five stories higher.
Definitely worth the drive to the top! There is a view to the crater lakes on one side and to the ocean on the other side. It is right next to a hotel project gone wrong...
Best to visit with a sunny day to see different colours in the lakes! It is dangerous to visit the old abandoned hotel by the viewpoint, but we did go inside and it was creepy horror-movie look-a-like!Guys we met there said they visited hotel during the night and went to the basement...
Very eerie and atmospheric. Its no longer allowed to enter the Monte Palace (but not impossible to, should one choose to do so anyway).Id read about the hotels former glory and even though theres nothing left, apart from an, on clear days, striking view, to indicate that it was once voted the finest hotel in all of Portugal, Im still very happy that I got to visit it.
Amazing view ! Vista do rei gets Too crowded after noon and visiting the abandoned hotel is really worth it for the view on the rooftop. Its not dangerous ! All the places that are dangerous are blocked and secure.
The highlight of our visit to the island (apart from seeing Whales). It was good to hear the Hotel has been purchased by a Chinese company and will be refurbished once again in the coming years as the views from the balcony rooms will be worth the price of a nights sleep. Great walks around the area too.
Great view for the village and lakes. Theres a refreshments van nearby where you can get ice-cream, coffee, water and soft drinks. A must stop and theres a big long stay parking.
