Miradouro da Grota do Inferno - Hiking area in Ponta Delgada, Portugal
Amazing view, you need to leave the car in the entrance near lago do canário and then walk but totally worth it
This is incredibly beautiful place!
This view was one of the view I dreamt to see for a long time. I was not disappointed. Loved it
Wait for clear skies in sete cidades to visit this spot. Its absolutely stunning
You can have the view of the 7 Cidades lakes, it is beautiful. Perfect for a drone flight. The hiking to arrive is short and simple. Only the last 100m is muddy/clay and it is better to have appropriate shoes, in particular after a rainy day.It takes 30min to arrive from the parking. The parking area nearby is very small and many parks along the street
Excellent view, easy to reach, must go. Try to go there on a sunny day and before evening in ordwr to make sure you get the best view.
Amazing and special place
Must see, just wait and the clouds will disperse.
Amazing views. Must visit.
Absolutely wonderful. There was a clear sky when I got there and the view was something else. Stayed there for a while just to enjoy the view. Its a must when visiting São Miguel.
It was an unlucky day because of the thick fog, but the view looked like a paradise then. I might come back another day =))
Nice small walk to arrive to the miraduro, in my opinion the best spot to see the surroundings and the lakes.
An easy walk from a car park will take you to this fantastic spot where you can see both lakes- green and blue in the same time. The location can be busy and parking bit tricky sometimes.
Nice walk/hike up to the viewpoint. Best view on the island! Be sure to make the detour to also look at lagoa do canario.
Best viewing spot for Sete Cidades. Unfortunately, weather can change quickly and it can be foggy and you dont see anything in that case, but there are cameras in the SpotAzores app where you can check out the view and if its foggy or not. One of the highlights of the island and a must visit place.
Don’t miss it ! Absolutely fantastic view ! Beautiful nature.
Amazing views and excellent view point. Cannot miss this when visiting Azores. However, try to find a bright day for best views.
Beautiful wide view on big amount of lakes, which were made by a vulcanic processes. Better weather you get, better view you have, but a foggy times here are magical and if you will wait here for like half an hour, fog may go away. Another must visit on Açores!
A place Ive wanted to go to for 8 years. Expect fog and rain and wind, and zero view if you notice clouds around. The walk up to it is also wonderful.
One of the most breathtaking views on earth! The trail is super easy, safe, and very scenic. There are signs that will help you get to view points. It does get crowded but not too bad. It’s worth it if you’re in the azores. It was the highlight of our trip. You do have to get lucky with the weather in order to experience the colors of the lakes. The clouds will come and go so be patient!
Ive seen the pictures, and I know this could be the best view of the island, ONLY if the weather cooperates with you. Due to the topography of the mountains, youll most likely be stuck with clouds like we were. A lot of travel videos say you could wait it out, but in some cases (like ourswe waited, and the clouds never cleared. Fortunately the clouds were about Miradouro Do Rei, which gave us a great view of Sete Cidades. I only wish we decided to leave Boca Do Inferno earlier.
Great hike with amazing views. Check the weather before you go in case it’s cloudy.
A must see for those that love to hike. Spectacular view but you might have to wait for the dog to clear to get a proper view. There is a side path with another vantage point. Its worth seeing.
A truly breathtaking magnificent view!! Well worth the hike, even though it was a short 15min easy hike. From here you can see the beautiful lakes that sit on the craters of previous vulcanos from the island. Just be mindful that the weather in Azores changes very quickly and frequently, so you might be unlucky to find fog when you visit. If that was youre unfortunate case, then please do visit in another hour or day, it will be well worth it!Theres plenty parking spaces just by the entrance of the trail leading to the viewpoint.
Scenic view above the caldeira, easy access
Spectacular view! I went at around 10am before it got super busy and I found parking easily. Make sure you go on a sunny day to get the best experience.
Amazing place, a little walk on foot from the cars parking with ups and steep
Very nice view! Also the way to the point is amazing! It’s within forest that has a lot of flowers going down on a road
The view is stunning and well worth the effort. It appears the gate remains closed now so its a 20-minute walk to the final viewing area. Be warned that the last 1/4 mile is steep. Unfortunately, I slipped and fell on the steep descent, sprained my foot and it took much longer to get back to my car. Im happy to have had the chance to see this!
very good view to lagoa do santiago and lagoa azul
Definitely a spectacular view! We did the rond walking up the easy route and going down the challenging route. Beautiful walking area
Check the fog before you go. One of the most scenic views and probably the most photographed place on the island. If you plan to take the full circle hike wear proper shoes and long trousers as the last part is quite muddy and full of thorny plants.
This 4.9k hike was great. It took us a minute to understand the red and yellow blazed markers, but once we understood their notations, following them became a breeze. Its beautiful and something that could be easily and enjoyably hiked in a couple hours. We were told about spotazores.com, a website with live webcams around the island and that helped guide us to know what day we should go here to best capture the beautiful weather.
I recommend spending some quality time here to soak it all in and enjoy yourself. There are many areas available for picnics, so feel free to bring snack or lunch as well.
IMPORTANT. Logistic information, especially for Family with kids.Visited in March 2022.The miradouro is easily accessible also with young kids (5,6ys or even 2/3ys in a baby carrier). The road is mostly flat and surrounded by amazing green threes. The walk from the starting point is about 10/15 minutes. Only at the very end there is a steep staircase, but safe and feasible. The road until the stairs is also accessible to cars, but the gate at the entrance is usually closed. To reach the miradouro: drive until the large parking slot of the “Miradouro da Lagoa do Canário”. From there you cross the road and walk in the street behind the gate. You follow the road and in 15 minutes you are arrived. In the same street you can also take a short downstairs (1/2 minutesand visit the nice lake do Canario.View is beautiful and definitely worthwhile to visit, considering also how easy is to get there.
Literally Heavenly. I went twice to experience it in the different visibility. Beautiful metaphor for life what just because you can’t see beauty doesn’t mean it’s not there!
Amazing, even when it’s foggy! Conditions change so fast so its worth going up no matter the weather. The view is about a 10 minute ‘hike’ from the parking lot
Simply amazing. Azores at its best! Photos cannot do justice to this wonderful place. Around one km easy hike to the vista point through a lush green forest. Well maintained path is worth every step. View of the crater lakes and the ocean is breathtaking. If you have one day on the island Boca do Inferno should be on your list od places to see. And then drive down the town for a drink or light meal at the Green Love, before taking a late afternoon plunge in the ocean.
Amazing view! Easy to get to, great place to have an helicopter view of the lagoons. Could be difficult to get a view without fog.
The experience on São Miguel island is not full wihout this place! It is QUITE TOURISTY, but you understand why when you get there. I would advise you to visit it as early in the morning as possible because afterwards you might have problems with finding a free parking lot. The view is BREATHTAKING, but if you want to experience it, CHECK THE WEATHER few days before. Otherwise you might stuck inside a cloud as my first try. It was quite cool, but this is not why this experience is special.
Fantastic landscape!!! A bit of a climb but too extraordinary not to go.
Amazing view. No photo is good enough to represent the natural beauty!
19. 4. 2021:We came here for the second time in better weather and there is really a wonderful view of the lakes of Sete Cidades 🌊.14. 4. 2021:We came here from the "Monte Palace hotel ruins" 🏚️ where there was still a nice view of the lakes. 🏝️ Well, there was only fog. 🌁 Proper timing ⌚ is essential.
Simply the best view on Saõ Miguel. A short walk from the parking lot lets you overlook a fantastic and impressive scenery. Just amazing.Of its foggy, come back some hours later. Weather is changing very quickly.
Little hike, about 20 minutes for reaching the viewpoint. Easy access since there is a parking lot in front of the trail. Also there is a little lake at the beginning in your left, and cows on a field in your right. The viewpoint itself worths the effort and if I may suggest, try your luck sometimes to go (backthere for watching the sunset.
The view was amazing, stunning, breathtaking, imposible to be created and also be aware that this place most likely will be covered with clouds, so if you will be here and see that there is no cloid above this mountains, then just drive there as soon as you can!!!!
This area, Im told, is the most photographed on the island. A rare clear day today.
A spectacular view of Sete Cidades, you could take pictures all day from up here. Watch the weather, come up on clear day. Avoid if there is rain in the forecast, you will see very little. You can drive on the dirt road down to the end, limited parking but a far shorter walk than if you park out on the main road. Spend the time to get the right composition for your shot & it will be truly memorable. Love it.
A 5km round walking trail with an amazing view. The entrance is free but there is not a lot of parking spots near the trailhead. Be advised that the way up is very steep at some points. A MUST
The best view in the world. Your soul will be blessed and happy to enjoy a view like that. Also the trail is amazing to walk to. If it’s not a foggy day. It’s an amazing place to be. The real paradise indeed!
