Bi-level bar draws locals for tapas & beers in a chill, quirky space, with DJs & dancing upstairs.
Great place for a drink and amazing food. I had something along the lines of a chefs special and loved it. In the Marigny neighborhood and a local spot with great people/staff. *We were last there in February just before all the Covid-19 shutdowns.
Went here because of the great reviews but I really feel like we were tricked. Definitely go somewhere else in the Marigny because this place is very expensive for what you get and the service is not that great (our Bartender seemed like we were bothering her).If you do go here, I suggest getting the goat cheese Croquettes. The mushroom Manchego Toast is okay but very similar to Campbells cream of mushroom on toast. It is a tapas bar to explain the smaller portions.
Its kinda pricey food but totally worth it if your lookin for great small plates. Monday night is always when I go, go upstairs never packed, and the bartender Sara is a genuine sweetheart. Shes great!
I dont understand how this place has positive reviews. The only redeeming quality of Mimis in my opinion is its charming building. Every other aspect was patently terrible. Its cash only, which is a pain, but usually places share the savings with their customers. Not Mimis. Their prices were about $1 more per drink for the same beers youd find anywhere else. The tapas were unflavorful, overpriced, and unimaginative. We even got one of their chefs choice mystery tapas, and it was just a few thin slices of overcooked duck breast. Its like theyre not even trying. There are plenty of great bars and restaurants in this neighborhood; Id pass on Mimis.
Great space for late-night tapas and a drink. Two floors with a pool table and small balcony. Cash only, but they have several ATMs.
My first time visiting and I had an awesome margarita and the trust me tapa. I had no idea what to expect, but I got a rare tuna steak with an olive tapenade and lamb shoulder jus. So unbelievably good. Im so glad I moved in up the street!
My date and I had high hopes for this place. We trusted the reviews and chose Mimi’s after attending the Saints game on October 6, 2019. It seemed wonderful with cool people and several sweet dogs greeting us downstairs. We were directed upstairs for dining and we were the only customers in the dining room at the time (approximately 5 PM). The two female bartenders seemed annoyed we were there, as if we’d interrupted their private party. They treated us so rudely that we left after 30 or so minutes. We were polite, paid for our drinks and appetizer, and I left a nice tip as I always do. However, these two young ladies acted as if our mere presence had ruined their weekend. We did not let them ruin ours. We went to Buffa’s instead, and enjoyed wonderful food, service and music.
Tapas and cocktails are a winning combination, make sure you take a companion it’s no fun eating alone
After 4 days on a good tour of New Orleans...this place ranked the highest....so good!!!! Casual downstairs with a pool table that might fool you into thinking you’re just going to get bar-food. Nope!!! Everything on the menu is awesome -
I actually like Mimis a lot! Great food and atmosphere and the kitchens open until 2am. I normally get the lamb chops, steak and potatoes and its enough for my wife and I. Simply put great bar to hang at. Oh its cash only so keep that in mind but they have an ATM inside so its convenient.
Dive bar with unbelievable tapas and great wine list. This is a hidden gem just outside the French Quarter. The bartender was very friendly and helpful. He recommended the Lamb Chops and man oh man were they good.Very eclectic dive bar with a nice upstairs and balcony. It’s located just a few blocks from Frenchmen Street... well worth it.
Absolutely amazing food! Wanted to try everything on the menu. Stopped in late afternoon, and everyone was friendly. All locals when we were there, but made my wife and I feel welcome. This will definitely be a place we visit each time we are in town.
The place to be at Marigny. Great vibe, good people. Mostly local people, especially during the afternoon, a great place meeting new people. The drinks and bartenders are great, and if youre lucky theres a chance youll meet Mimi herself, a local hero in the Marigny. They have 2 bars, a balcony and a kitchen with a great menu of small plates, especially the lambchops are recommended. Dont come here for live music, they only have live music twice a year, but with the great vibe from the people you dont miss it. Definitely check it out!
This is an awesome place to grab one of Heathcliffs great small plate delights or some pretty cool drinks. Take the leap and try either the "Trust Me" cocktail or tapas. We did both and Brittany steered us right on each. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the eclectic atmosphere
I went in here three times in the evenings/nights to give the place a chance. Unfortunately it was consistently not good. The best staff was the door man who was friendly and welcoming but once I got inside I felt distinctly unwelcome. The bar staff were rude on all 3 nights. The food was bad (example, 1 tapa for $7, burnt). If you compare this to the rest of Bywater and Marigny it stands out as an unfriendly spot to avoid.
A little off the beaten path but an easy walk from Frenchmen and in a very nice neighborhood. I honestly didnt really know what to expect (may have been my first time getting tapasbut it was great. All the dishes we got were fantastic. There were 4 of us and I think we got 7 items and it was perfect. And I think it was about $20 each including tip. The staff was also really friendly. Highly recommended and will definitely go back next time Im in the area.
Bartender didnt want to answer me. She asked for my id I tried to give it to her but kept ignoring me. She was too busy with changing music. The food tasted kinda like ligma though so wouldnt go again sorry bud.
Great place for late night fare. Menu is somewhat limited, but better than your typical bar fare. Veggie and Vegan plates available. Nice place to just chill and drink also. Two bars, upstairs and down.
This is clearly a long-standing, much-loved neighborhood establishment with so many markers of good times had. I highly recommend the "trust me" tapas and cocktails--put your trust in the magic of this places loving owners and theyll take good care of you.Fabulous vegetarian options availableCash only, prepare accordingly!Visit the second floor for nice views off the balcony and extra spaceStay late and be social and kind with the regulars if youre a visitor, this is their beloved space!
Awesome little joint. Captured the NOLA funk vibe. Great service, AMAZING food! Order the “trust me”. You will get a random dish not on the menu. We ordered two and our dishes were gourmet fare (both totally different dishes). Great vibe. Don’t miss out.
Great food and drink selection. It is cash only, but they have an atm on the spot. The bartender was great and atmosphere was perfect. There is also a pool table of youre interested.
Amazing spot! Love what they are doing for the government shutdown to help federal workers. Two free toppas and two free drinks with ID. This place always shows love to its patrons.
Great dive bar and tasty tapas. Really like that people can bring their dogs inside, creates a relaxing homely vibe. We ordered the trust me tapas which was absolutely delicious plus the lamb chops, green salad and empanadas. Empanadas were a bit flavourless, could have done with a chipotle sauce. Great service though, would like to hangout here more.
Drinks came quick. Smaller bar with a festive vibe. Paid $15 for a steak. If Im paying $15, Im expecting sides as well. Steak tasted good but was not worth $15. Prices are too high for the portions youre given
Outstanding. Casual, friendly atmosphere with fantastic tapas. We were absolutely floored by the food and shared two plates. Bartender was very friendly too and the "trust me" drink option proved to be a great investment. Trust them, its worth it. Prices were all reasonable. Best place in town.
Very cool look to the place inside and out. Low rating due to the very rude bartender upstairs. Had planned on ordering drinks first then food and would think tipping at the end as normal would be okay. Only to have her very sarcastically thank us and rudely say she takes tips too. This is after we told her we will be ordering food soon. Left after our drinks because of the terrible attitude.
The food is stupid delicious. There is an obvious pride in crafting of their food and drinks. Try the Trust Me options!! Its all part of the fun! Its not a cheap bar, but I felt I got my moneys worth.
Fairly unreasonable prices considering portions/quality of the plates. Person that brought food ordered at the bar was nice. Bartender was not very nice. The place gets loud enough being half full you cant hear people directly across from you. Theyre cash only as well.Food was good overall, but as a whole experience it wasnt worth it.
Awesome local bar in the Marigny/Bywater/Upper 9th ( whatever you call it). Music selection is good. Heard the food is good but didnt get any.
Came here recently on a Sunday during a Saints game. Had family in tow so we ate upstairs. This place is great, two bars in one. Noise downstairs, more peaceful upstairs. We tried a bunch of tapas and enjoyed every bite. The lamb ribs were exceptional. Cant wait to go back
I always remember that Mimis served good tapas, but my recent visit reminded me that its worth going there just for the food. No more live music, but the atmosphere and vibe is good for me. Not too loud, and they offer a $10 "surprise me" cocktail.
It sort of an elegant Dive Bar. They used to have music there but got in trouble with the neighbors. Such a Pity because it was a great venue. Theres a bar downstairs with good street views. And then upstairs is where the restaurant is which is a very nice assortment of homemade Tapas really like the stuffed dates with blue cheese.
Love bar with a pool table and a darts board. They serve amazing tapas food (American versions of Mediterranean tapas). Lots of beers to offer and some storing shots. Within a neighborhood off the beaten track so a lot less touristy than most bars
What a phenomenal place! Late night eats were so on point. The mushroom toast and goat tapas were savory and so satisfying. They had awesome rap music playing in the background. It was an unexpected bonus! Definitely get the Trust Me dish, which is a chef’s choice for that day. You won’t be disappointed.
Very low key hip spot that is genuinely unpretentious. Really good food that is reasonably priced. Spatious but with a cozy feel. Awesome balcony from which you can touch the top of a street light. Decent beer selection, but drinks are overpriced.
Windows raised yet airflow poor with temperature being unpleasant. Bartender seemed like hed rather be anywhere but there and looked scarily like a serial killer. Drinks were prompt but the bar was empty. Mixed decently but way overpriced for the area. Not a Sunday afternoon spot in my opinion. Big Daddies better, cooler, cheaper and more friendly.
Chill, good vibes, christmas lights; what more could you ask for? Lol not being so touristy is a plus.
When going to touristy places I always like to find out where the locals actually go and enjoy. Definitely found that here. Mimi’s was my favorite place in New Orleans. We discovered Mimi’s and the 9th ward while walking around for coffee in this less touristy neighborhood. Real, genuine feel. Some friendly locals suggested Mimi’s for some tasty Spanish tapas. My friend and I went later that night. We were very happy with the food! The lamb and the mushroom toast were our favorites. Hung around for a few hours drinking with our super chill bartender, talking and meeting other people. We came back the next morning for what was hands down the best Bloody Mary I’ve ever had, and I’ve had plenty!Great atmosphere, good prices, clean, friendly staff, cool sign.
I miss the music. This place used to be a great spot to catch great music and to dance but it changed a few years ago. Now they do good tapas! Veggie and carnivorous choices... Its a good spot. Drinks are a little pricey though. Like they only have a canned cider (crippsand it costs $9.
Tapas were really delicious. We tried practically the entire menu except for the salmon which they were out of. Beers were a little pricey but its close enough to tourist spots I guess they can justify 6 bucks for an abita. Overall a chill place that Ill visit again next time I come to town.
Food was incredible, drinks were pretty solid too. Fun, low key atmosphere. We ordered half the tapas menu to share amongst ourselves. Everything was delicious, but the lamb and "trust me" special were my favorites. Upstairs is cash only, though teachers get a discount!
The mushroom toast was a DREAM!!!!! And our bartender Jonie (sp?was super nice and gave us great service. Best service during our trip. We went here twice, once for dinner and the next day for late night drinks. Awesome service both times. Thanks!
Not a large menu. I went with Trust Me. Tell them if you have any dietary restrictions. Then the chef prepares a dish for you. You wont know until it gets to the table what it is and you can go every time and its going to be something different. I got a very tasty and unique salad and cajon wings (aka frog legs). Fantastic stuff. They are open pretty late too.
I love the tapas here. Weve been several times to get a good cocktail and some great food. I rate it only four stars because the last time we tried eating here the upstairs room had rap music blasting that was not appropriate for a nice dinner.
Dimmed lights awesome appetizer bite size hors doeuvre. Great place to kick back and enjoy drinks with friends or alone. Both vegetarians and carnivores are welcome
This spot is cozy, yet cool. All kinds of people hang out here. Theres a pool table downstairs for a hang-out vibe. Upstairs there is alsonabbar and balcony for a more chill ambience. Great food served! As if I was in a 5 star restaurant.
Our bartender made great Old Fashioneds and was attentive and friendly. The goat cheese plate and potatoes were delicious. Some dishes are definitely tapas, but the quantity of food in others will surprise you.
This is a good restaurant and straight bar in the neighborhood. They are open very late or 24 hours and serve food night as well. Good beer selection. Has an upstairs and downstairs. Good service and music. There are lots of cameras including right above some tables and thats kind of weird and sometimes its a bit loud for conversation.
Phenomenal little destination bar. Pool table and darts with a local vibe downstairs, chill lounge with projector screen for movie nights upstairs. Even a little balcony or two.The food is all small plates, but fantastic stuff. The menu is highlighted by a Chefs Option called a "Trust Me". Always made with fresh local ingredients, its up to the whim of the Chef to feed you something amazing.
This place was a smokey dive bar downstairs that made my friends walk out... but I ventured upstairs and found a different experience and lured my friends and wife back in for excellent food and a great experience overall. Amazing quality for the money. Id highly recommend this place just get past the smokey bar scene and get upstairs to the more clubby bar scene. Both downstairs and upstairs offer the same service food decor etc. just one is smokey and dive-like and the other is more cool club-like. Order a bunch of tapas and enjoy then enjoy the very reasonable bill when done.My rating if I had to give one would be at least a 24 outta 30 especially considering that Three Muses gets 23!!
