Millet bird sanctuary and nature trail - Museum in Castries, Saint Lucia
Our tour guide John from Paradise Adventures took us here when my partner hurt his knee and we still wanted to go birdwatching, but werent able to go far. Our guide from the sanctuary was very pleasant and friendly, and great at spotting birds. We saw several endemics and we saw the parrots - twice!
This place does require a paid guided tour (even though it didnt show anything about that requirement on the sign or descriptionso if youre looking for a solo hike look elsewhere.
The Millet Bird Sanctuary tour was fantastic! It began with our driver “Stormin Norman” picking us up from our hotel. He is very knowledgeable and made the 45 minute trip a lot of fun by providing information on local flora and sites. We were warmly welcomed by our guide Pamela, who is an amazing source of information on birds as well as vegetation, land crabs etc. We saw 4 of the 5 endemic bird species including some great views of the St. Lucia parrots. Pamela’s enthusiasm for her job is infectious and made for a great time. The trails are well maintained and even if you are not a birder but enjoy the outdoors you will love this tour. I highly recommend it.Cheers KenApril 2022
Beautiful trail with spectacular views. Enjoyed seeing the native wildlife and learning more about the island.
Amazing, beautiful hike through the rainforest. Our guide Pamela (Pamwas an extraordinary wealth of knowledge. We viewed and learned a great deal about the indigenous wildlife. Numerous bird sightings including Mangrove Cuckoos in full view. There are some more strenuous parts to the hike but well worth the effort. The drive through the island to get there is also a fantastic way to witness island life. Strongly recommend this hike to any nature lovers wanting more of the island!
Beautiful place!
Very disappointing. After 1 hour drive from Port Castries and a taxi charge of 140Usd I have finally reached this place to find out that on weekend its closed. An Staff member, opened the gate for himself refused to let me go in. According to him I should have called in advance to arrange a guide as this is compulsory on weekends. I have checked on Internet all information before and nowhere was anything mention about above exemptions. I had no chance and had to go back to Castries. Wasted time, wasted money! I will never go back to this place again.
This was a great place to see Birds , great view and so green and beautiful
Expert local guides take you on a (semi-strenuoushike through the rain forest. Tip: get there by 8am for a chance to see the elusive St. Lucia parrot.
The road and navigation to the site is not well marked and rough. Best to prepare a map and ask questions /assistance from locals on the way.
Guided walks around rainforest that have been reclaimed from a banana plantations when the dam was created. Not the easiest place to find as there are no direction signs to the location.
No birds, they say that the best time for bird observation is at 7am or 5 pm ??? Open at 9am, close at 2pm... Being charge $25 EC pp no receipt, no sign says theres a fee ???Nice place to see Mount Gimie (highest mountain of Ste Luciā)
Great place
A wonderful trip seeking out the bird and plantlife in the heart of the rainforest
