Military Museum - Museum in Chisinau, Moldova
Having visited all the museums of the capital, I was positively surprised by this museum. The installations of the "Cerbonyl" and "Soviet occupation" rooms are moving and incredibly well displayed. We just need more English information in the basement rooms to really fully understand the historical aspect of the rooms.
Super nice staff!
The museum garden with the tanks and stuff are actually gratis.
Very good museum. The collections cover the entire history of Bessarabia/Moldova. The museum is relatively large and well designed. However, the operators could still work on English descriptions so that foreign visitors can better understand the history and difficult fate of the country.
Great price for what you get to see. Then a suprise at the end when you leave the museum ✈️
This museum has amazing displays and artefacts, but no information or context to accompany - besides some descriptions in Romanian and a little bit of english. It would be a great museum if there was guides (and arrowsthrough the exhibits. Worth it for 10 MDL.
Located in the heart of Chișinău, just a block up from the main road, this museum is fantastic. Walked around the outside this time, but entrance to go inside is cheap, just 10 Lei for entry and an additional 10 Lei if you want to take photos. The outside displays are in immaculate condition, with some dating back to pre WWI. Most have a tag in English explaining the history and specifications. It’s great to see a country preserve their history.Kids will love it, being able to climb on some of the tanks, etc. Wheelchair access outside could be a little challenging in places. Definitely going back for a tour inside the museum.
If you dont know your history youre doomed to repeat it.I am missing more written information, but those vehicles are amazing!
Very interesting.
Awesome
Mostly I like the machines outside
Beautiful place with nice items!
I think this place is best known for a few tanks, MiGs, rockets and artillary pieces outside, which it seems entirely possible to see for free even outside museum hours, but the inside is also worth visiting. It starts with a room of both ancient and medieval weaponry and proceeds through 17th, 18th and 19th centuries to the major conflicts of the 20th century, including the Soviet Union in Afghanistan. There is also a bit about the 1992 secession of Transnistria (worth contrasting with the treatment of the same event in the Tiraspol museum, if you get there tooand Chernobyl, where you can real photos of events you may have seen in the drama series. Then, just as you think it is coming to an end, it all gets very dark. You head down into the basement past displays on the Molotov/ von Ribbentrop pact and the Soviet occupation to a series of galleries about the Cheka, NKVD and various stories of deporation to the gulag in Siberia. English language signage is quite good, but there are lots of letters and documents which are not. Nonetheless, it is quite moving and makes this museum stand out over other, similar institutions I have seen.
Fantastic experience, must see.
Amazing place to army lovers, all garden is so cool.
Rusty, some labels are off, tanks have seen better days, miss the original exposition..
Decent collection of Sovietic artillery and machinery, put into action in WWII.
The Museum of Military Glory was established in 1995 as part of the Moldovan Officers’ House and it belongs to the Ministry of Defence. It is part of Muziotopia project that I have did in close collaboration with KSA:K (Contemporary Art Centre Chisinauand Stefan Russo- curator. The theme of the Muziotopia project was the visual representation of national identity through heritage museums.
We are watching 90 day fiancee and everything has been filmed in Moldova.
Very interesting museum with outside a large variety of tanks, rocket launchers, artillery and fighter planes. Cool to bring a short visit.
Wonderful artefacts, and a surprisingly large museum. For someone with not much prior knowledge on European/local history its a place of interesting photos with not much context since there is only basic English information. Well worth the visit!
A very small boutique museum. Be sure to visit the Museum of the Soviet Occupation before it will be closed by the curent pro-Russian government. Entrance fee is 10MDL/ person. Almost nothing.
A must do activity for anyone who is interested in military history. The Transnistrian war and the Soviet Occupation on Moldova section is heart breaking but without knowing what happened we might take part of the repetition of the history, not doing anything anything about that, being as guilty as the aggressors.I recommend getting a guide in case you dont read and speak Romanian or Russian
The museum seemed to expand at ones fee as we were led through this by the charming elderly ladies who tender to this. It is a wonderfully evocative pathway through Moldovian history.
The artefacts outside are nice but there is an unsigned door leading to a quite large museum. This museum keeps giving. Starts dull but builds and builds. A nice room covering Afghanistan another on Transnistria and a great display about the mass deportations and Soviet meddling.A couple of lovely old ladies run it and although their English is non existent, they are both extremely helpful.
Very moving and emotional experience. Well worth a visit, unforgettable.
Did not go inside this Museum, however, i did look at the military vehicles on display in the grounds.
If you are in town then you have to visit this museum. It is so rich with content and the people there are very kind and helpfull.
Very good
Impressive collection...you are allowed to touch
Very interesting museum with an extensive collection of artifacts. Just a shame almost nothing was in English!
Its well worth a visit. It costs 10 lei to enter and it only takes about 30-45 minutes to go through. However, almost all signs are in Romanian or Russian so dont expect to really learn things about the history or context
Good overview of Moldovas military past. Visit took us 30 mins and cost 10L
The emotions in the building are easily felt. Something to note: all the descriptions are in Romanian.
We can take pictures even by climbing on the machineries
Absolutely fantastic. One of the best experiences in hystorical memory.
I e seen many WWII military displays in the US. This was a nice comparison
One of the best military museums in esten europe, a guide would have been nice but there is not one during the weekend.
Hard to understand a lot of the exhibition when you dont understand romanian.. We were lucky to go with some modovans so they told us what the different things were.
Very interesting museum covering much of Moldovas history, including the conflict with Transnistria. Unfortunately only some of the texts are translated to English, but (if you have basic knowledge of regional historythe museum is enjoyable even without the captions.
Very cool place to visit if you really like military and war information. The first time I went when I entered the building I couldnt find anyone to assist me with entry to the museum. There were no people around the entire lobby of the museum. I assume because there isnt too much traffic in the museum they keep staffing low to reduce overhead costs. Nonetheless, the second time around I found the attendant and was able to gain entry to the museum. There are two parts to the museum, an inside attraction and an outside one as well which had large size war vehicles such as tanks and plans. The inside consisted mostly of documents, uniforms, guns, ammo, videos and things of that sort. There was a small entry fee but if Im not mistaken it wasnt more than 3.00 US. Check before going to make sure on this. Overall I would suggest a visit if youre in Chisinau, Moldova.
The museum didnt seem to be open, but interesting just to see the impressive collection of ex-Soviet military vehicles on display outside
A lot of interesting items on exhibition, including the impressive collection of military vehicles and weapons outside. The entrance fee was around 10 leu per person. Definitely worth a visit. However, they need to add some information boards / signs around the exhibition, particularly with an English translation.
Fantastic museum. Not only for militar Life fans. Also for history lovers. Very good exhibición about the comunist era And the posterior revolts and the war with Transnistria. The funny thing is that the museum building hosts a meditation center And Indian books And handicraft shop. The shop is great (every kind if Indian clothes And handicrafts)And the owner is a very nice and helpful
Great museum, most impressive exhibition of the 20th century era.
What an array of weaponary. I particularly appreciated the MIG jet that sat out front. Not a great deal of English information, but this doesn’t distract from the excellent exhibition inside and out.
Really great! Some very interesting exhibitions. Some English, but not a lot. If you know a bit of Italian that helps. Very well done and extensive.
Chisinaus Military Museum has a good collection of military-related displays covering World War II, the Soviet war in Afghanistan, Moldovan military participation as first-responders following the Chernobyl catastrophe, and Soviet-era deportations. Earlier periods in Moldovan history also get brief coverage in several displays. The museum is located on the second floor.
Not everyone thinks to go here but is important that they do because it has the military history and artefacts along with it. Impressive building and things to see.
Here you can see some of militray machines if you are interested in army. Pretty awesome for this little city.
