Stone monument along the equator & a plaza where visitors can stand with a foot in each hemisphere.
One time experience to be on the half line of the world in the land of only “two seasons”. Just don’t forget to visit Intiñan museum on the same day to see the real mitad del mundo point with many other experiences.
An awesome experience to know you are can be on the northern and southern hemisphere at the same time.
Really cool place to visit if you are in Quito.
Funny to walk on the equator and be, sort of, at the middel of the earth between north and south. Unfortunately it is not really the middle of the earth. Modern GOS techniques learned that the equator lies about 240 meters, or 799 ft North of the marked yellow line.
There is something for everyone and the food is to die for. You can spend all day here. Food is great and pretty cheap. Do not amiss the museum inside the monument where you can learn about all regions of Ecuador. Dont forget to weight yourself in here; you will weight LESS than any other place on earth!!!!
Try all angles and walk around in this huge place! You find many small beautiful arts :)
Is very wonderful restaurant to eat. Friendly people and service. Dishes presentation is very nice. Food is alot but very delicious and withing budget
Amazing place very good experience, but u need to go just on weekends, weekdays ubwill find a lot ps stuffs closed
Worth visiting! $5 entrance, beautiful location, many stores, and places to see. The monument was beautiful and the inside was very interesting. Highly recommend visiting the craft beer museum in there as well. $6 for a flight of 4 craft beers. The equator line was lots of fun even though it’s not the “real” line. If you’re set of seeing the legit one you can find it in the museum 200 meters away.
Go early to experience the park without many tourists. We were very positively surprised, didn’t realize know what to expect. People are so friendly and helpful.
A must see if you have the Chance. I love being in 2 places at once. Two hemispheres at the same time was cool 😎
Excellent and unique experience being in the middle of the world.bWebloved it
Apparently the actual monument is the original middle of the world, but it is not exactly on the equator. Just a couple of blocks down, you get to the Intiñan museum and it’s the coolest place ever. Best $5 spent on my entire trip to Ecuador. It was neat doing the experiments and learning more about how Quito became known as the middle of the world.
Can recommend eating the roasted Cuy (guinea pighere. Was super crunchy and nice. We shared one ($30between 4 with a side of potatoes and a salad which was enough if you are not super hungry. We went to the first restaurant on the left coming from town with the big guinea pig statue. They also have a small selection of nice and cheap souvenirs.
You MUST visit this place if you go to Quito. Museum was great and there are so different sites to see along the way. I recommend a tour guide so you can understand all the wonderful things here. Be prepared to shop. All things were reasonably priced
Great spot to visit the equator. Lots of fun experiments and exhibitis
$5 entrance to go to the official monument, we had gone to the museum not far away and just wanted to peek, so didn’t end up paying but could see the monument from outside. i think the draw is that you can go to the top of it and look a bit. otherwise, the museum was super cool!
Love this place! Its about 40 mins from DT Quito. You can get a taxi 🚕 to take you there. Its a great feeling to be at this monument and straddle the two hemispheres. The monument itself is on sprawling acres of gardens and has lots of attractions including galleries, chocolate museum, shops etc You can spend a solid 2-3 hours just enjoying the beauty walking around. Loved being there and experiencing the moment.
Nice place, clean and people are very nice
How can you miss the chance to straddle two hemispheres on the equator, the exact middle of the earth? The monument also has some interesting native exhibits inside and a panoramic mountain/city view on top.
Its amazing place which you can visit to discover the secret of ecuator
Lots if interesting facts and hands on opportunities to learn about the physical properties of the equator and the Amazon culture. Not overly commercialized.
I went here in late July 22, and it was fairly busy. Great outdoor location. I was expecting to find just a monument so I was surprised to see all the fauna and shops within. Entrance is $5pp adult and half for 12 and under. So worth every penny. Enjoy!
This an amazing place . Boredom is non-existent here . You get so full of culture. People is very kind in the restaurants and coffee/chocolate shops. Everything you will see its beautiful. The weather is nice too. The Andes mountains look really big!
One of the coolest experiences in the world. They made some really nice additions to the park recently, and it is a must visit if you are in Ecuador.
It was a great experience to have visited the Middle of the World City aka Mitad del Mundo.Place is well maintain, facilities are clean, organized and the people treat you very well. Theres restaurants, Coffee Shops and Gifts shops all around it.The monument, the different rest areas, mountains views, fresh air, its a very nice place, not too crowed.Theres a lot of Ecuador history to see and learn, starting with how each of the 4 areas lived, the Coast, the Mountain, the Amazonian and the afro Ecuadorian cultures. Its a sensorial and visual experience to learn about other cultures, their thinking, method, ideologies and religion. Its a must when in Quito to visit the Mitad del Mundo.
Very nice! Unfortunately, that day I was there it was closed, but it worth.
Great views and alot of stuff for the family all ages
Amazing place to visit people so friendly and the food amazing (dirt cheap).
What an amazing place. To be able to stand on the center of the world. Really clean and it even has some shops around.
Beautiful place! So worth it to spend the day
A must visit place in Quito- Ecuador. Touristic attraction. Plenty of things to do. Museums, Restaurants, and cute village with Ecuadorian handcraftship.
Beautiful site. Wonderful view from the tower. Rich history of french and spanish conquests in modern day Ecuador. A must see site in Ecuador.
Excellent attractions and great museum!
Ive got to visit again! Its so rich with cultural history exhibits, that it is impossible to take it all in with one visit. I was very impressed with the way they designed a museum into every floor of that majestic tower.
So fun to see the middle of the world monument. But, it is required to see the actual middle of the world- the original measurements were off by a smidge- and go to a new location. Go to both, they are wonderful!
This place is like none other, a shopping area, some restaurants, some museums, and a known site where you can stand on the northern & southern hemisphere simultaneously. There is a very low cost fee to get in but there is a bunch of souvenirs to walk away with. You will find gifts for loved ones and gift for the unloved as well😊.I didnt get the chance to try the food but it can be too bad.I definitely recommend this place for a visit .
Grand, but just "off center"! A wide avenue, flanked by busts of scientists, leads the visitor to the 30-meter-high colossus that marks the equator as it was defined by Charles Marie de la Condamines geodesic expedition in 1736-1744. Unfortunately for the visitor, the French were 240 meters off, but that should not spoil the fun. You can climb the colossus to look out over the yellow line that gave the country its name, standing at the foot of the 5 ton globe. The Ciudad Mitad del Mundo lives up to its name, because next to the monument there is plenty to do for young and old.
Ive been surprised by the variety of activities around, theres a couple of museums, though I would prefer them to be bigger. The middle of the world is quite a big monument, and you can walk to the top. Many restaurants, good coffee, and a lot of handcrafts. Its worth visiting. The entrance is just $5.
Nice place to visit, I saw people trying to walk on the equator lane and mostly everybody lost balance (fun to watch restaurants with traditional food and stores
Even though the monument is not quite on the equator line (240m off), it is still a beautiful and interesting place to visit. There are some small museums (various themes such as cocoaand the view from the monument is great.
Great place with traditional dances and guinea pig on the grill :Good insights into how the location of the Ecuador was determined. Did you know that the monument is actually 200 metres off the real Ecuadorian line? Thanks to GPS, we now have more precision than obsolete techniques.
Interesting place with a lot of information (in English too). There was a small group of indigenous huts, that held family, farming, and hunting tools. Plenty of shops and restaurants (the food was a bit on the high side). You could walk up the inside of the tower and read, and look at large photos, of the heritage of Ecuador. The entrance fee was $5 ($2.50 for seniors 65 and older). Worth the drive.
I took 2 buses from quito for less than $1, I paid $5 for entrance fee and spent a few hours exploring the place. Lots to learn and some great views from the top.
It was a fun experience. We loved the hummingbird statues around the monument. We bought an amazing piece of artwork from the artist Chalo Balseca. His paintings changed depending on the light. Its a must do tourist attraction.
This museum is better known as the place where it is located in the very place located in the middle of the middle of the world !!. Unbelievable but go visit it and you will realize the very real phenomena that are experienced !!. Oh very interesting !!
Interesting and unique. It was fun to stand on the equator!Very pushy in your face vendors here. No fast food choices. It was mostly sit down restaurants that took quite a while to serve food which is not good if you have limited time.Restrooms are available but you might need your own paper. Some were not free but there was at least one free (near the entrance). Many souvenir type shops here, too.It doesn’t take long to see the monument. We chose not to climb it but the line was not that long if you decided to do so.
City in the Middle of the World is a must stop if you are near Quito! No its obviously not the true equatorial line, just a nice park as a sort of tribute to the geographical line. The monument is surprisingly nice, all of the signs showing approximate distances around the world. The history tablets around the monument explaining the significance and uniqueness of the equator. Last thing is beer served in the park was excellent. If they still have the sampler platter, the dark beer is a go to!
Picturesque scenery in one of the places that claim to be the exact equator. Definitely the most built and invested in. Nice displays and plenty of shops. Museums close at 5. Shops at 6.
This is the only must visit place if you are in Quito. The place is clean and very neat. They charge for 5 usd (in 2020 Decemberper person. There are many souvenir stores inside the place and there are also restaurants. Prices in the restaurants are very reasonable and food is ok quality. There is a museum inside about the history of coffee and coffee in Ecuador. You can also climb up the tower that stands in the middle of the world. The view on the top of the tower is amazing.
