Science & technology museum for kids offers interactive exhibits, a planetarium, shows & a cafe.
Its a nice science museum, good shows. The equipment is getting old though and not everything works. They recently added a game room on the third floor, they have some very fun full body video games for kids.
I hadn’t been to the Michigan Science Center since I was in 3rd grade, and never really considered ever going as an adult. However, I was invited to their annual Halloween After Dark (21+event and had a blast! The Science Center was full of fun activities, hands-on exhibits, and games for patrons of any age. Additionally, the live demonstrations were quite knowledgeable and entertaining. I definitely recommend the Science Center for a either any group-size!
So much potential. The kids loved the exhibits, however there are a lot of damaged and out of order exhibits. Also even if you buy tickets online they want you to wait in the regular line to get in.
The science center just upped their 3 floor exhibit focused on games. This space is so cool amd amazingly done. DOPE!
This is a great place especially for kids. Unfortunately a lot of areas were closed and some exhibits were being rebuilt. We did not have enough time for the Planetarium. Also the snack bar was gone and we missed the coffee. Still worth a visit.
I had the wonderful opportunity to explore the science center with my father, my husband, and our three children this past Saturday. It was a lovely experience for the entire family. Or shes tanned from four to seventy and there was an exhibit or activity for each of us to enjoy. We were each grabbed free tickets and got to explore each floor of wonderful science activities. Looking forward to our next family fun day at the science center
Visited here today with “free” tickets let’s just say thankfully they were free. This place is a bust. It was hard to use any of the exhibits they were either broken, out of order or in use by the other hundreds of people running around. The center itself just felt dirty. The staff at the door were friendly other than that I don’t see a need to ever return. Maybe look into a severe makeover for the science center…. 0/10.
This is the place to go to teach the kids about science, they had so much fun, we were there for a few hours the Science Center kept their interest. I recommend this place It was #2 on my list for the kids, plus it was great to also be able to interact with them and the share some history, I heard no complaints from the kids all thumbs up.
Family visit, we had fun and learned some stuff. I really appreciated all the sanitizer available and soap in the bathroom after using the interactive exhibits.
Great location for some family fun. Huge amount of exhibits.
This place is a great way to introduce your kids to science and interesting related topics. Plenty of interactive things to do or look at for kids of all ages. Try to make sure you look at the times for the live presentations so you can enjoy that too.
You Are More than Amazing!Joe Dombrowski was there in July with 3 kids 1 being my Granddaughter Londynn for a taping.Your Staff I have to say went Above and Beyond for all of us Thank youThey were so kind to the kids and interacted with all of us.If I could give More than 5 stars I wouldAnd my grand daughter learnd so much about things in the museum from your staff so Hands on.
Although its a great place for children, a lot of the stations were broken & or out of service. The gift shop could have had a better variety of items. My child enjoyed himself So I guess thats all that matters to me personally. Overall Its a cool place to go on a weekend when there isnt much to do and youre looking for a little excitement in a place for your child to blow off some energy just in time for a nap.
Unfortunately, this was a miss for me. The best part was the 3rd floor popology. The rest is kinda blah. They need to rehab the facility. There was a demonstration of something at the science stage and the worker talked so fast, I could barely understand her. I don’t know how kids could get anything from that besides the visual aspect. I think there is more bad than good here and for the cost, it’s completely overpriced. Save your money and walk around the DÍA or another museum.
Went here with my daughter and we had a blast. very clean and workers were all helpful and nice! wanted to thank the 3 staff members that helped me get my phone back, after falling down the elevator. I really really appreciate it!
We spent about 3 hours here. This museum is very instructive especially for kids, they can experience science in an interactive way and have fun at the same time. But adults wont be bored either. Admission is $18 for adults and $9 for children. They have their parking lot but most of the time it is full. Have fun!
Fun museum for kids. Best fir younger kids around 3-9 or so. You can spend anywhere from 1.5 hours but doubtful it would past more than about 3 or 4. (In case anyone wants to know timing.Myself and my daughter came and it was $44 for admission and one show.
Really fun place, kids love it. Starting to show its age on some of the exhibits, but the staff is very good and the live demos were a blast. Special exhibit in photos
This place is awesome, even as an adult. A lot of exhibits are old school science lessons. But, the new exhibits are very educational, yet fun and hands on. The 4D experience movies are fun as well, about 30 min long. If you havent been here in a while, you owe it to yourself to get reacquainted with this long time staple of Detroit.
Place is great! A lot for kids to do and they really enjoyed it!
Great place to spend the day with kids. Very educational, but fun as well.
Great time with the kids! Best option is to pay for membership which was $20 more for an entire year with two adults and up to 6 kids at all kinds of different museums! Also get discount at stores in the museums!
Was really fun my child had to see everything and was said when I said they are Closing and we have to come back later.
Kids of all ages will enjoy all the fun facts and live show. The new theater 4D experience was also amazing. Lets just say, you truly feel like your at the same location where the short movie is taking place.
We visited for the first time this past weekend. We were super excited to take our kids but were a little disappointed when we left. A lot of the exhibits were closed off. I understand Covid changed the way businesses are run now but if youre going to close down so much, you should at least make sure the activities that are open are running properly. It seemed like every exhibit had something not working. It looked run down like no one was maintaining anything.
We went to the science center today and remembering how amazing it was when I was a child in school is totally different from what I experienced today. Half of the things were closed and not able to play with. Some of the things were missing pieces or broken. There were still SOME cool things but I would expect more hands on activities there then there was. They did have a show with a scientist that kept it active and called on volunteers which was a blast. But that was one of the only exciting parts. I felt I should write this review to let everyone else who is trying to experience these childhood memories to warn them don’t even waste your time. As for the science center I really hope you guys open half of your building and fix/replace broken and missing things so kids now days can experience how amazing Detroit science center ACTUALLY is.Also don’t try to call, you’ll never get through.
The entire center is in a pretty unfortunate state. Around half of the exhibits are closed or in enough disrepair that they were effectively nonfunctional. This was particularly the case with the more interactive displays. The only bright part of the experience was the semi-regular science show. It was clearly aimed at young children, but enjoyable enough as adults.
This is a great place to take the kids. Very hands on and educational. My boys loved creating and testing marble runs and enjoyed "working the assembly line". We received a family membership for Christmas and plan on using it often.
We absolutely loved the Michigan Science center! So much to explore! A fun place you can take your kids over and over again.
Gated parking next door. $7.We paid less at counter because we are members of a reciprocal museum.Busy, but not bad.Lots of hands-on activities, some cool science demonstrations, a couple of theaters which cost extra. Our teen and tween had fun.
We went here for a beer event so maybe the review is bias. However, I do want to come back even without beer so that says something. ;-)
We used to love the science center but haven’t been in probably 5 years. Went today and the state of the center is just sad. Many exhibits closed, tons and tons of things not working. The planetarium is no longer full screen. No more Kids Town which was always a popular thing. We paid $65 for our visit and I feel like it was a complete waste. I will say that the staff were all wonderful, friendly, and great with the kids. There are a ton of companies who would donate to get the center back up and running. Whoever is running the center and responsible for funding needs a new plan. It would be so sad for our community to lose what was one such a special place.
The staff there are exceptional, my daughter spent two hours building a car with sticks, and Georgina was so lovely to talk to. I have noticed most educators there are really great with children. We go on a weekday and there is never a crowd. Love this place.
The Michigan science center was a let down. My kids kept asking to leave and a lot of the exhibits were closed or broken. There were very few fun things to do there.
Great indoor fun for my 5 and 2 year olds! The only mistake we made was not bringing a lunch because they do not sell snacks.
We used our reciprocal membership from the Dow Museum in Midland to enter today, this was our first visit with our 3 year old. We caught a live demonstration on combustion on the lower level but spent most of the time exploring the main level, particularly the section that had spinning discs and conveyor belts to stand on. The building was very clean, especially the bathrooms. Staff were all masked but unfortunately only about half of the patrons were despite a mask mandate listed on their website. We will absolutely visit again soon but may wait for a weekday visit to avoid the weekend crowds.
Its a great place for kids to explore... My problem is the planetarium. It completely sucked the life out of me. I remember them being a immersive experience with the sound and the full projection, showing stars and constellations. Now it a 2d movies only using 1/4 of the screen. Disappointing, Also if you are Christian you gonna have a problem explaining it to your kids after the film because it supports the big bang theory when I believe God created the world with his Word.
It was a great experience! I took my daughter there for the first time and she loved it too! So much to see and the staff was really friendly and helpful!
Glad that my little one gets to attend school in the same building as the Michigan Science Center. It was great to also see it lit up last night. Thank you for a great night!!
I really love this place, visiting this place for the first time was absolutely wonderful even my teenagers had a blast and one of them is 18!!! So many things to look at & so many things learned just upon that one visit! I highly recommend visiting this place
This is a GREAT place to bring kids to learn about different divisions of science and physics. There are lots of fun and interesting exhibits. The staff is also friendly and helpful. Very clean, and hand sanitizer stations everywhere. I highly recommend.
We love the science center! Right now they have a lot of extra safety measures in place for patrons, so we felt safe being there. Masks are required as well.
This place is wonderful and they have done a great job reopening and providing value to their members during the Covid pandemic even adding a new exhibit on the 3rd floor. Julia and Dan were fantastic and went above and beyond to engage the kids throughout our visit and in multiple exhibits. They have an iMAX theater, planetarium, and 4D theater all of which are wonderful. The kids favorite attraction was the electricity show.
Hidden gem. Never heard of it until I visited. Im sure under normal circumstances its a great facility. Under covid lots of exhibits are closed or restricted. Still lots to see. Focus is on industrial science. Friendly helpful staff. Will visit again after the pandemic.
I had a lot of fun in this science center. Even contain how a car factory is about (big three yeah!). I recommend to get in time, is a full day experience with your kids and family.
Always a fun time, especially with little ones. Lots of things to see and do, including the IMAX planetarium. It is noisy, not sure if they have sensory friendly days.If you do end up eating there the food was mostly snack level fairly health and well priced.
Interesting place for all family. You can spend here few hours and have a good time. It is real museum - some exhibits have been working since the 70th
We had such a blast for the free day, with our kiddos. Kids ages are 18, 16 and 4 and even the oldest kid (hubbyand we still had a great time exploring and learning. Plus the teenagers got bonus points at school.
Had a 4.5 and 2.5 year old. They both had fun. Geared more towards older kids, but had a lot of fun playing with the giant legos and the under 5 year area that had a play kitchen and ball pit.
Great place to take the kids. There is stuff to do for them everywhere! But not only will it be fun for them, youll have a great time too. I could go on listing all the stuff they have here but I wont. Ill just say this; The forces that govern our existence are complex. But when shown in a model, one we can see and touch. Even the youngest minds can create an understanding. This place does that very well.
