Friendly and informative, staff and museum. Worth a visit. Investment in cafe and car park needed. The sensory garden will be a nice addition when completed.
MoreWe visited here last Sunday. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. There is a plethora of interesting items on display many of them donated by the Davitt family.Highly recommend this tour. Justyna brought us for a tour of the grounds. She is an asset to the museum. Very passionate about Mayo, very friendly and happy to chat and take questions.
MoreReally nice place celebrating the life and history of Michael Davitt plus much more besides.
MoreMichael Davitt Museum is a must for all the amount of information in writing from the displays, to a dvd on Michaels life and tour guide. Our tour guide was Margaret who was very informative and knowledgeable of the storys in the museum. She answered any questions and Was polite and friendly from start to finish even provided umbrellas when visiting Michael Davitts grave.Included in the price of the museum was free entemry into the Ceide Fields.I would recommend Michael Davitt Museum to secondary school students and to who have an interest in Irish history
MoreOne of the best beaches in Sligo

MoreGreat experience for those looking to know more about this Irish hero. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly, was definitely worth the visit.
MoreA phenonmenal museum experience for a Mayo man that has left an incredible and rich mark on Irish history. The museum is staffed by passionate volunteers who were very thorough and helpful in explaining each facet of Davitts life. The 13th century Abbey beside the museum is also a fantastic historical site. 1000% would recommend!
MoreGreat visit with plenty to see. The guides are excellent and really bring both the Davitt and wider local stories to life.
MoreTo say this is a museum whose primary focus is on locally born national hero Michael Davitt does not do the visit full justice. Firstly be blown away by the lush location and the old restored church which houses the museum. Then experience the friendliest of receptions as you enters the building and are given an outline of how to best experience the museum trip. You are shown a short introductory film on the life Michael Davitt which if you never heard of him will make you wonder why you havent; if you have heard only a bit about him will educate you - but in all cases will leave you with a taste of more. And more is what you get when you take in the wide array and richness of the artifacts on display. If you are lucky enough to get a guided tour (as we were by Margaret who gave us so much of her time and attentionthen their knowledge, enthusiasm and patience really brings out the richness of Davitts life. Yet there is more when stepping outside to the characterful adjoining abbey and graveyard, wherein the eponymous native is buried. For Davitt a short distance from his birthplace to his resting place - but what a journey.Thank you again to all the dedicated and friendly team we made friends with on that morning - I am reading a book on Michael Davitt at the moment - Thank you from Cork ;)
MoreFantastic experience with such friendly and knowldgeable staffWell worth a visit
MoreWhat a fab place, ask Mark for a tour... brilliant guide, many thanks
We had a very friendly welcome from Yvonne, very chatty and gave us so much information and led us to an area where we could relax and watch a short documentary on Michael Davitt. A lovely lady called Margaret went on to give us a comprehensive tour and took us step by step, she’s really passionate about the history of her beautiful hometown in Mayo and tells the story quite well. For the price we paid, the reception we got I personally think they should be charging more. I will definitely be going back and would definitely recommend this place. Thanks Margaret
MoreWas an absolutely amazing experience for me and my mum. It was incredibly interesting as going into this I knew very little about Davitt. He was a truly incredible. The friary is also an incredibly stunning site with a great history to it.Mark and Yvonne were both extremely friendly.Mark was also a brilliant guide with loads of knowledge and was all around great craic. All around a very great place to go to with very friendly and knowledgeable people working there. Worth every single penny and more. All the best to yous as well!
MoreA great, well presented museum. Mark was an absolute font of information. Dont miss a chance to visit if youre in the area.
MoreA very interesting visit. Mark, the guide, was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about Michael Davitts life.
MoreHistorically interesting . Davitt was a leader of the land league which defended the rights of irish tenants.
MoreSmall, but perfectly formed. Local museum guide was passionate and well informed. If you are interested in the Land League and Irish land reform then this is your place.
MoreThe visit started off with a 10min video followed by a really great and informative tour outside by Paul. He gave us lots of information and showed us Michael Davitts grave, along with a number of other key spots that we wouldnt have known about had we not gotten the tour. Well worth the money! There is also a museum section inside for after the tour with plenty of reading.
MoreWe was passing by and decided to call in.The cost is only €5 per adult and €3 per child. The museum is the familys old church and his house is marked out at the side of it.On entering we was surprised at the amount of exhibits was on view and a great short video of Michaels life after the video we was brought out side to see the abbey and then Michaels grave. We was asked to leave our masks on outdoors which we found very odd but did it anyways then we was asked if we got the covid jab when we said that we didnt she stood back about 5 meters and we found it hard to hear her speaking we would not go back again because of that
MoreInteresting Museum about Michael Davitt and his role with the Irish land league & Irish republicanism. The tour guide was very knowledgeable & engaging. Well worth visiting
MoreSmall museum, not many things to see in here apart from the history.
Excellent audio videoStaff were very helpful and pleasant.

MoreVery interesting and well presented a must see for those interested in Irish history
MoreWonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment. And Thankyou very much margaret for the tour. Highly recommended. Thanks again.
MoreUnfortunately it wasnt open when we were there. But you can go into the grave yard and the ruins behind the information centre
MoreA must see, excellent museum. Very knowledgeable & friendly staff
Great to catch up on my Irish history that I loved in school. Michael Davitt paved the way for Irish people to get ownership of our land and country back. Stayed in Mount Falcon nearby great location, food and hospitality. A great base to go to the Foxford Wollen mills too to have a wonderful lunch. Visit the Admiral Brown exhibition beside the front door to see how a ten year old boy landed in America on his own and ended up in the highest position in the Argentinean navy. Makes you proud to be Irish. Seáns bar Adare.
MoreGreat museum of one of Mayo’s finest. An informative film and excellent tour guide
MoreSuperb guide. Really brought the man and his times to life. Lots of interesting artefacts and informative video. Also a welcome cuppa and biscuits included in the entrance fee!
MoreWe where at the museum today 18/10/19 on a PAB Travel trip .The place is full of history , well worth a visit , great friendly staff - plenty of free Coffey; tea & biscuits. Its a shame to think that a part of our history still depends on donations & charity from the public to keep it open. Thanks to Tracey Noonan Doherty and her colleuges for helping one of our passengers who had a major inconvenience but was promptly rectified by Tracey who saved the day of 26 passengers and our helpful driver Chris !Thanks to all involved and for a great job.Well worth a visit - highly recommended.Maybe someone from the government should visit also and take the finger out - and donate some of our tax to such a great charity and its volunteer staff !Thanks again .
MoreMichael Davitt Museum is well worth a visit. From the moment we walked into the museum, we were greeted very warmly by Kathleen, our tour guide. It is very reasonably priced, 5 Euro for adults and 3 Euro for children. We were offered free tea and biscuits as we watched the overview video. We were then given a full guided tour of the museum and environs. A must-do tour if in the area. Not to be missed....
Moreexcellent rapport with tour guides lo/s of little gems of information discovered from guides.Well worth a visit.
MoreVery interesting, great exhibits and well informed staff who cant do enough for you. Fabulous. Im glad I called by and would definitely recommend
Moreguide called Therese was excellent. really knew her stuff. lovely cup of tea at the end. excellent value for money.
MoreWe thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Michael Davitt Museum! Despite not having enough cash for the very reasonable entrance fee (we went back later with a donation!), the people working there couldn’t have been nicer. Not only did they answer all our questions, they also gave our daughter a book to learn some basic Irish. We had never heard of Davitt before we went so it was enlightening to discover his important role in fighting for land rights for the Irish, as well as his work abroad. Highly recommended!
MoreBrilliant local museum with extremely knowledgeable staff that went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our visit. Extremely good value at 5 euro per person which includes a cup of tea or coffee. I couldnt speak highly enough of this attraction and I hope to be back in the future!
MoreIts been a while since Ive been but this is the birthplace of Michael Davitt, the founder of the Land League and one of the most important names in Irish History. Well worth a visit
MoreThe tour guides were very friendly knowledgeable and welcoming. This is a must do visit when in the north Mayo area. Highly recommend !
MoreIt only made sense on visiting this museum as to why it’s here in the first place.Completely understated and almost lost in our history but this gentleman was a beacon of what we Irish should aspire ourselves to.
MoreNot the most exciting museum but quite informative. Ive learned a few things.
Second to none! I have paid in to museums up and down the country and all you get is hello and goodbye. Thus placed takes you in and almost makes you part of the Davitt family. Steeped in history Paddy brought us on a walk back through time where we learned things we could never have known from books. Worth a visit and worth giving a donation as they charge nothing and give everything.
MoreVery informative and got excellent guide through, including film...well worth a visit to the grave of a wonderful person 🇨🇮
MoreVery nice and friendly staff. Interesting and doesnt take a lot time. Free, but accepts donations. Will give a personal tour.
MoreReally interesting history of Irish politician Michael Davitt and an ancient Abbey all in one site. No admission charge but donations accepted
MoreVery enjoyable and informative visit the tour was was given by an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide thank you
MoreA brilliant experience. Guides were knowledgeable and great story tellers..bringing everything to life. The depth of understanding and the beautiful surroundings...magnificent. Do visit and get a greater understanding of The Land League, the Great Hunger and WW 1.
