Mgahinga Gorilla National Park - National park in Kabale, Uganda
Great National Park. Rangers are the best.
We went for Golden Monkey tracking. The rangers gave different prices every person we asked. They ended up asking 100 USD per adult and 80 for kids (one is 4 years old). They said we have to be there at 7 to start at 8 and try to discourage us. At the end one ranger tried to SELL US A CHAMALEON. He offered it for 20 dollars and reduce to 10 after we said no. Unbelievable!
Its really amazing with the volcanoes
If you want to see the Gorillas, this is place. Great experience
The most easiest incredible gorilla tracking experience,3sb,1bb,2adf,1inf,2juv
Beautiful park, amazing to see the golden monkeys and chameleons. Worth the drive!
One in a life time experience !
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is a home to a number of wild animals Mountain Gorillas and Golden monkeys makes it a must visit if you happen to step in the perl of Africa 🌍 (Uganda).
We had the most incredible experience Gorilla trekking here. It was a beautiful walk to the gorillas, it wasn’t difficult trekking at all and the mountain scenery around us was stunning. We then had 9 gorillas around us and they were really easy to see. There were 3 giant Silverbacks in the pack and a baby. They played and ate near us and the baby played everywhere. We were also so lucky to just have two of us in the group. Our tour guide was exceptional and taught us so much about the gorillas and the land. This was an unforgettable experience and we can highly recommend this park. It also had one of the largest gorillas in the world there. If we could give 6 stars we would.
Look at these photos!!!
When for the mountain hike, toughest experience ever but I loved it.
Amazing game park with excellent special wild life. Beautiful bird species. Its well know for its famous endangered golden monkeys. The only park where gold meets silver. I love it. Highly recommended for every travellers bucket list.
The true understanding of the kingdom of the apes
Awesome , I hiked mountain Muhabura. I loved all the beautiful flowers, luckily we met the Gorillas along the way. 3 silverbacks , very huge and humble Rukudo,Ndugutse and Mark. I can only relate it to life because it wasnt easy ,but you just have to keep the zeal that you will get there . On my way to Kisoro , there was one perfect corner with a Lake Bunyonyi View. Spetacular indeed . I loved every bit of the western Ugandan.
It was incredible seeing our cousinsFriendly rangers but they keep demanding for tips.
This park is an awesome place to visit. You will track gorillas and golden monkeys and also get a chance to hike 3 volcanic mountains.A great story and experience about Batwa(pygmiesalso awaits here
Omg I am ashamed to this but I failed to hike Mount sabinyo but promise to do it next I head there but was the best experience because I hiked to a smaller extent
One of the smallest parks in Uganda but with the best Gorilla experience, very clear views and short hike, you also meet other animals like golden monkey and forest buffalo
If you love hiking, this is a place, beautiful and mind blowing scenic views
Worth the pain to reach mount sabinyo highest peak...P.S the hike/climb isnt as easy as youd think in rainy season.. but if you do do it , be well prepared :))
We underestimated this hike, Mt. Muhabura is one of its kind.Deepheat saved the day, we made it to the top.
So beautiful, rewarding and fascinating..Gorilla trekking is such a thrilling moment one wouldnt want to miss out.
Mghahiga National Park is home to the endangered Mountain Gorillas and also to the golden monkeys. Hence the phrase " where Gold meets silver". Adult Male gorillas are called silver backs because of the silver hair on their backs. The national park is on Mount Mghahiga and visitors can plan to carry out mountain hiking to the peak, nature walks, platform viewing and many other exciting activities.
We did the Mt Sabinyo hike and whilst very challenging, it was incredibly spectacular! The UWA staff were super helpful and a wealth of knowledge. If you come to Uganda and you enjoy hiking, you should not miss this hike!
An experience to not miss! Tour guides are extremely knowledgeable. The tracking can be some bush whacking so be prepared. But they do offer porters for hire to carry your bags if needed. If needed you can also hire a crew to carry you. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had in my life. This experience is worth every penny!!
Simply an extraordinary experience: seekers and rangers (Jonah the expedition leader ranger), addicted to the cause and extremely professional, allowed us to reach a family with three silver backs after more than two hours of walking, on the slopes of the Muhavura Volcano. I sincerely believe that, thanks to the rangers and to the personnel of the NP known during that trek and the daily regulation of visitors to the park, the wonders offered by this hidden part of the African continent, threatened heavily by the inevitable requests for anthropization and for increasingly large spaces for crops, can really be preserved.
Natural and good cool mountains and green environment best for hiking and tracking Gorillas
Nice, well maintained park. We did the mount sabinyo hike. Although it is only 18 km, it is a very demanding hike. Starts of easy, but then it rises. You climb untill 1 pm, then you return no matter where you are on the climb.
Only Home of Mountain Gorillas in the World. Lovely and knowledgeable Game wardens
Uganda mountain gorillas rock. What an fantastic, amazing experience.
Its is really lovely. The scenery was so beautiful. Went up to the peak. Entire round trek took up 17km and 7 hours. However, it rained for most of the trek which made climbing hard but descend even harder. Was a worthwhile experience though
It was real nice feeling to nature lovers and hiking funs
Mgahinga Gorilla Park is an Outdoor Enthusiasts Dream become true. Gorilla Trekking without the Crowds of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest or Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda. You trek the Nyakagezi Family that has 3 Silverbacks - all family members .Volcano Climbing at its best - Mount Sabinyo with its three peaks where you step into Rwanda, Congo and back into Uganda without a passport. The views from above are stunning.Golden Monkey Trekking or the Habituation Experience with golden monkeys flitting by you from above, to the sides of you- amazing experience.Hiking - the Sabinyo Gorge Trail is a a one of a kind trail in Uganda that takes in the best of hiking, scenic wonders, wildlife and birds.Authentic Cultural Experiences especially if you stay at Mount Gahinga Lodge which has just built a Batwa Village to about 130 landless Batwa a home. The Interactive Batwa Trail you see the forest through the eyes of its first people is well worth doing.Mgahinga Gorilla Park - is still off-the-beaten Tourist Track for most but not for much longer.
I could not say enough about Mgahinga NP. The staff was super friendly, spoke perfect English. You can tell the animals in these parks are their lives. Theyre very protective of the Gorillas and Golden monkeys and are very knowledgeable about their behaviors. They have a sustainable model where the people that were originally displaced to make room for the park are still allowed to come gather limited quantities of bamboo or honey. The locals therefore support the park and the park supports the locals. It is truly a peaceful and awe inspiring place. Bring your 📷 😁
Wow, what an incredible climb. Not for the weak for sure. If you are in really good shape and can handle a 5 hour up/4 hour down hike then get on it and do this.
Peaceful and a great tribute to Ugandan Peoples Wildlife Service. Well managed with the wildlife as the main care giver.
Ikirunga home stay welcomes you to view the Muhabura mountain ranges
Hiking Muhavura 😂. What an amazing experience💪💪💪We hiked to the top which was challenging, made it to the first hut, continued to Second hut and finally to the top.The views were exceptional and the feeling was just more excitement!!The Rangers were very helpful and am glad that I made to the top.My next challenge is Rwenzori after ElgonI cant wait for more love for my Uganda
One of the best experiences one can live. Meeting the Gorillas is just mind blowing and the walk is easier than the Gorilla Tracking at Bwindi. Strongly recommended. It’s worth tracking the golden monkeys too if one has time even tough the trekking is slightly harder than the gorillas
Staff extremely friendly. Was fortunate to only need a short hike to see the gorillas. Gorillas approached several times occasionally even brushing against us. From fellow trekkers who went to Bwindi, apparently there one barely able to even see a gorilla in full as most were hiding behind foliage in Bwindi.
Yellow monkeys were so fun to watch!!! They didnt care about us, just played with each other all around us. There were so many of them, you usually had a view of your own.
Amazing place to visit wild living mountain gorillas! We were not disappointed. But its incredibly expensive, but still cheaper than in Rwanda.
Out trek to see the Golden Monkeys was amazing! We were very lucky seeing the monkeys so close. Lawrence and Charles were great guides.
Marvelous experience. Rangers and trackers are experienced and helpful. We were able to track an entire family of 9 as they moved throughout the forest. Permits are steep, but you will remember this experience for a lifetime.
I did my Gorilla trekking in Rushaga, but was the encouraged to trek another day for the Golden Monkeys, which are located here. I have a heart/lung issue, which makes climbing (even stepsdifficult. When I did the gorilla trekking, my guide communicated this to the organizers, and I was put in a group with older couples. It was perfect because we could go at a nice, slow, steady pace and take breaks.Unfortunately there are only 2 groups of Golden Monkeys in Mgahinga, only one group is habituated. So wherever the monkeys are, you have to get there too - theres no opting for a closer family. I definitely felt like I was going to die the entire trip up the mountain, and felt awful that I was slowing others down, where as I was not the day before with the gorillas.Having said that, the Golden Monkeys are a ton of fun to see once you get there. Very playful and bouncing from tree to tree. A little hard to get pictures because of this, but was still fun to watch. If youre in good shape without health problems, Im sure this would be easier for you. They also offer other tours besides the golden monkeys. You can climb to the top of one of the volcano mountains, walk a pygmy trail, gloria trek, etc.
Climbing up the Muhavura Volcano.Befor you climbed up the volcano be shure that this is only for fitt people. We were a young and fitt group between 19-21 Years and sometimes we really struggle. Also, our guide was not really a guide he was almost every time 100m in front of us and dont wait fore us. A couple (around 30 Yearsturn around after 10 min hiking. Also be shure that you have warm clothes and a lot of weather and sweets whit you :)
Nice gorilla sanctuary with one family of gorilla. Great for golden monkey and primates safaris and if you want to sneak a little advantage of being in three countries at once no visa need. You can actually stand at the border of Uganda, Rwanda and congo while you in mgahinga
Fiendly staff, very professional. The park is amazing, great hikes, vegitation will blow your mind. I didnt do any gorilla tracking but from what I can tell this is a great place to do so. For hikes and prices, inquire at the park office in Kisoro (open until 6pm). I did the hike up mt Muavuru which is spectacular.
Excellent place to see Gorillas. There is one Gorilla family which is habituated for tourists. They have now settled down in Mgahinga and dont crossover to Rwanda . Truly one of the most relaxed group of Gorillas which will come very close to you and even try to touch you. There are FIVE SILVER BACKS in this group and we saw 2 of them.We found them after 1 hr of hiking. Mgahinga is also a great place to spot Regal Sunbird aswel, and we spotted several of them at an altitude of 3000m. Chances of seeing the Gorilla is almost guaranteed. Highly recommended...!
This is one of the places where you will find the mountain gorillas. This park together with Bwindi national park form the largest gorilla sanctuary in the world with over 350 gorillas to see.The place is ideal for a sight seeing, forest walks and gorilla treks. The place is safe and tourists are properly guided throughout the tour.Accomodation is available if you are to stay for short or long time and the locals are very friendly. It is also advisable to visit other sites like queen elizabeth national park. This will make your tour worthwhile
