Mexico Sylvia Park - Mexican restaurant in Auckland, New Zealand
Went recently for lunch and the quality of the food has really gone down. Oil my fish was fried in did not taste fresh, the chips with the guacamole did not taste right at all. I dont know if this is due to a change in owner but something has gone wrong with the place
Absolutely amazing manager who helped me get my order sorted when I ordered from the wrong restaurant.
Had lunch, 4 tables of patrons including us, not that busy. Food was a fine standard as youd expect. Unfortunately the under staffed and inattentive service lengthened a quick bite to eat and dropped this experience.
Compared to other Mexico’s, 100% worst service and messed up order. Also sassy workers. Bit sad the prawn tacos. Maccas would do it instead
Unbelievable that I havent left a review for this place! Very flavourful and tasty food. The service is excellent! 🙂
Super speedy and a new order at table system. Really friendly and good food.
Food was average. Not much of a choice for food being a mexican restaurant. Missed the authenticity. The staff is great and the space is really good and clean. Can order online and pay as well which makes it handy.
Supremely fast and friendly service, and the new winter menu (especially the vegan foodis outstanding.
Entrees are amazing! Margaritas would be better if carafe order was actually suited to number of drinkers. Awesome overall.
Great service, waitresses communicated really clearly and easily, and the restaurant accommodated my necessary changes to a food item quite easily (was recovering from food poisoning so had to swap out some ingredients). Food was great and the atmosphere was nice too. Well done
Got seated at a table with water, waited so long I decided to start a timer, waited another 5 minutes without service before walking. Nandos it is.
Love the Mexican themed wall decor and vibe here, its always a fun place to go out for lunch or dinner. Our food came out very quickly too despite it being a busy Friday night. You cant go wrong with the quesadillas here, I particularly enjoyed the Braised Beef Cheek ones. The churros are so light a and fluffy too, definitely save room for them for dessert. For more Auckland food reviews, follow @diningwithash on Instagram + Tiktok :)
I used to Love Mexico, so really sad to write this review. The fried chicken - one of my favourites, was so dry... Tasted like it had been deep fried 10x. I basically come to Mexico For the fried chicken. It should be fresh, juicy and flavourful. Nothing tasted fresh. The croquetas were warm as if theyd been sitting out and served to us after 10mins. The table was super sticky too.I think my Mexico days are over:(
Good for adults, but the kids menu was a bit too challenging for my kids. Nothing familiar on there - they had tried too hard to be authentic Mexican rather than including some slightly more accessible tex-mex kids favourites.
Food was very tasty. Prices were good & staff were attentive. Great
The place was nicely decorated and was inviting. The girls who served us were also really lovely and friendly. The jug drinks could easy drink 2.5 people. Food was pretty ok, would be nice with a little bit more filling.
Nice place, nice food and amazing margaritas and fried chicken. I love the ambiance too.
The servers were lovely, the service was quick and the food tasted amazing. Id recommend trying the prawn and chicken tacos, as well as their quesadillas.
The two items I had were beef cheeks and pork belly absolutely delicious. Also the pineapple/ lychee mock cocktail was addictive. Will certainly go back soon. Highly recommend
There is no better spot for your taco and fried chicken fix. The beautiful food and tasty cocktails come out so fast, great environment and staff are always helpful.Highly recommend and always good when there is easy parking nearby.James AshwinKakapo Business Sales
Margaritas were aesthetically beautiful but didnt really taste as how we ordered them to be, but was still okay. The fried chicken...juicy and moist but cant really tell apart the chipotle mayo and jalapeño mayo. They both tasted like regular mayo. Not spicy at all despite having 3x 🌶🌶🌶 on the menu.
Good Mexican food. The fried chicken was good. The potatoe wedges were well made and it comes along a sauce which is super delicious. Loved their mushroom , black bean Quesadilla, perfect for vegetarian option, they were perfect crisp with nicely prepared filling. Try their in-house craft beer. Portions are also good for $$ for two people. Seating space is decent.
Very bad service. After ordering the waitress brought us something random instead of what we asked for. Even pointing with the finger over the menu, they brought us, again, the incorrect order. Finally, when the waitress decided to take the right food, after waiting 15 minutes she came back saying that they were ran out of that food.Unnecessary expensive for the quality of service.
The cleanliness of the restaurant is questionable. Table was sticky, glass has visible brown stain. Bowl was rusty or a brown drop of something. When this was brought to the staffs attention, I was accused of harrassment to the staff, as I was informed by the manager Roshan.I queried him why is providing feedback and asking for clean cutlery are considered as harrassment, Roshan was unable to elaborate and provide details and took the staffs word without validating.Roshan even offered me the option to leave. What da???It was when I said this is now defamation and I am extremely offended and upset that he offered his apology and the house will pick up the bill.I worked in hospitality as waiter and I know how tough life can be, but asking for the minimum standards in food hygiene should not be met with such hostile attitude.Food was meh. Fried chicken was dry and overcooked. Prawn taco had a tiny drop of prawn. Churro was nice, though.Overall, I felt very unwelcomed and made to feel like a burden to their half filled restaurant. Totally ruined our Friday night out. Not coming back again.P/S: Taco Bell is just opposite and we had a great experience there in the end.
Yumm, awesome food, drinks and service. Friendly staff. Can highly recommend the tacos and fried chicken. White co
Came to celebrate my hubbys birthday here with the whole whanau. Grandkids love the chicken taco, enjoyed their drawings, celebrant enjoyed his superb braised pork belly with perfect presentation. Service was great and food not so bad. Will recommend this place. 👍
Reasonably priced with a good range of menu options to choose from. I made the mistake of ordering Taco Dorado, a fried taco shell that tasted a bit stale. It was literally filled with shredded red cabbage, with a few lonely prawns right at the bottom. Definitely wouldnt order again. The braised pork belly taco on the other hand, was great. Very generous tasty filling in a soft taco shell.
loved everything, the decor, the ambience. Just the entire vibe was all that! The food was so quick to come out. Everything but the green rice dish was delish. Wasnt to my taste but everything else was amazing! The cocktails were strong just how we like itWill def be coming back
The quality of food has gone downhill from previous experiences with this restaurant chain. The pork belly crackling tasted like its een sitting around for weeks, burnt and oily, the meat in all dishes dry. Overall a pretty disappointing experience and we left a lot on the plate.
What we ordered:- Horchata $6Only stopped here for drinks so I cant say much about the food, but we did really enjoy the experience. Ive never had horchata before, it was super refreshing and interesting with a subtle rice flavour and the sweet cinnamon and condensed milk. The drink size was pretty generous in comparison to most other drinks offered at restaurants so Im super happy with the order. The interior is also so gorgeous, probably worth a visit alone. The walls are absolutely covered in vibrant portraits and artworks and it was absolutely stunning.
Expensive for what you get. Tastes nice. Made an order and was told by the waitress it was hot and spicy. Um, yes, that is why I ordered it.Well, was not hot or spicy. Dissapointing. The wait staff could have been more attentive and friendly.
It was OK.Sauce is a bit weak and on the bland side for me. Would prefer a bit more spice
Awesome food and amazing drinks, love the aura and the aesthetic of the place. The waitresses were kind and hospitable also, and the speed in which food was served is impeccable. Look forward to our next trip there
Food is alright but the waiting time is terrible, had to wait over 50 minutes for my order to arrive. Wouldnt recommend if you are planning to be on a schedule. Note: this happened on multiple occasions not just once, both times I was with my colleagues and by the time I got my food all my team members were done eating. It felt awkward and I had to just gobble down my food quickly.
The green tea noodle with all the toppings and sauces was absolutely delicious, the flavours of the sauces was spot on 10/10However the main star of the dish, or so I thought …. Teriyaki tofu was nothing but deep fried spongy tofu with no teriyaki essence as such (seen in pic)I’ve had the chicken before and it was great, not sure why vegetarian protein sources are so ho-hum?Great product guys, please rectify the Tofu 😊
Went Saturday night with family and really yum food apart from the chicken nachos which we wouldnt order again if we go back as these looked like they had been microwaved (not finished off in oven), and not much cheese so not nice and gooey etc - i honestly make much better nachos at home! But everything else was delicious, especially cauliflower bites and fried spicy chicken. Only other downside was all the wait staffed seemed very disinterested and not attentive at all.
Great service from the team here. Foid was nice and fresh. Cocktail list looks yumm too.
Pretty decent place to meet up with a few mates, have some drinks, and share a few plates. Chicken platter had some tasty options, and was only slightly too dry but it was okay still with the dry rubs or sauces. Chicken burger looked massive. Quesadillas were only okay, the beef cheek one being the better one. Jalapeno poppers were way better and more real than any others Ive ever had. But buying individual tacos and trying all 3-4 of them was definitely the best option. Got a couple buckets of Coronas with limes and then the margaritas. Drinks naturally get expensive very quick. They did have a virgin sangria too if youre not looking to drink. We didnt opt for the different tequila tasting flights this night, but perhaps a future day. As for the place itself, wish the seats were a tad more comfortable. As for the ambience, walls were absolutely covered with art and framed images which did lend a good themed feel to the place.
Food was below average. Service was poor - waited for half an hour between finishing mains and being asked for dessert. Churros were raw inside and burnt outside. Have given this place a couple of chances but time to call it quits!
Absolutely delicious, barely ever a wait time for food here (once you’re at a table that is!and the Margaritas are to die for! I had the strawberry and guava one this time 👌🏼
Found the food portions perfect. Especially on a hot summers day, it didnt make you feel stuffed. Food was fresh and full of colour. Fish tacos were delicious. My favorite are their sugarfree sodas. Their orange blossom was so tasty! Yum!
Good food and drink, recommend to reserve the seats for weekend. Margarita was $14 and small Tacos $ 8 so budget $30-40 for decent meal.
Food portions quite small .some nice flavours the blackened onion Crema almost burnt.fish taco was nice , also chicken one. Buneulos was a joke. Sweet corn ice cream was vanilla with sweet corn inside.Churros ok, didnt get the almond praline as per menu description. Mexican fried chicken was about 4 small pieces and dipping sauces were average.Overall not too bad, but nothing spectacular.
I enjoyed eating here. Great service. If you love tacos and beers, then you will like it here.
Nice place to go for a bit and drinks with friends. Relaxing atmosphere with friendly staff and good food. Their quesadillas are quite delicious with a tangy dipping sauce. They also have a selection of tequilas which their waiting staff is happy to educate you on.
First, it seems like good when you see in the outside. So I was expected before i got my plate. But it actually make me disappointed... I ordered calamari rings, it was so small portion for $18 and sooooo salty. And they not even served with sauce... I think Im not go there again.
Mexico is a lovely restaurant, even though they are usually extremely busy on Thursday to Saturdays. Service is Ok { just because they are so busy } but the food is awesome ! Love the flavors and its always fresh. Sangria is the best !
Ive been to a few Mexico branches and this one did not disappoint either - well, apart from the magic chicken which was a little dry, but their margaritas made up for it. The service was exceptional and vibe/setting better than the rest. If youre up for a little casual but exotic night out with friends and family this is a good one to go.
if you are looking for a fun night out, yummy tasty Mexican food, Margaritas and a place that has a book of Tequilas to pick from Mexico is your place.. We went there for dinner and had a great time. This was the first time we had been to this Mexico in Sylvia Park and we thought it was great. We had the fish yeast battered fish soft tacos, mexico fried chicken and coffee agave lamb QUESADILLA and enjoyed there special selection of Tequilas. Great art work on display and a fun atmosphere for friends, families an couples.
Super busy but that didnt seem to affect the service. The tacos were amazing - I highly recommend the Pumpkin flavour. We also got the pork belly and fried chicken - the fried chicken is another must. Also be sure to try the Margaritas - if youre sharing you can get a carafe like we did! The fitout is also very cool, feels like youve stepped right into Mexico the minute you walk in the door.
