Calle Ruben Dario, San Salvador, El Salvador, Santa Ana
The seat of the Archbishop of San Salvador, this long-standing cathedral offers grand architecture.
This a such a beautiful Cathedral. The stations of the cross hauntingly beautiful. Saint Oscar Romero is buried here. When you step into this Cathedral, I stepped into the story of the Church in El Salvador: a story of great suffering and persecution, but also of enduring grace.Stop in for Mass, Confession, prayer, and to venerate the great Obispo y San, Óscar Romero.
Exelwnt Thanks to President Nay Bukele
Very nice Catholic church to visit here in El Salvador. If your in town as a tourist, its a good few hours to stop by and check out the beautiful architecture and details. You can spend around 1:00 to 3 hours depending on how much you choose to check out. There was no fee for entry. Its two levels and on the lower floor there are a few tombs. Definitely worth the visit just to see the place.
Spectacular!
Nice church, but the visit hours are too short.
A good place to visit, has a good view of the capital and has a good family atmosphere, live music
So local here you don’t feel like a tourist . Street food eat with local nd enjoy the beautiful city .
El Salvador 🇸🇻 has beautiful mountains and beaches. Ive always loved historical churches and it was worth the day trip.Remember, when in El salvador to wash veggies and fruits with vinegar and rinse with filtered water or may you get a parasiteDont drink/eat the ice !Happy Holidays
Very beautiful cathedral
Great historic church. Theres no security though. We were in the basement museum and a crazy homeless got in and started screaming.
Nice settings and a place to stop and pay your respects. As magnificent as it is... I prefer other churches around town and the country.Santa Ana cathedral has the vibe that you expect traveling around the world.
Beautiful church! You are not allowed to take pictures inside.
Old church with the bronze tomb of Archbishop Oscar Romero in the basement. Very interesting story about his life and how he was helping the people of El Salvador. Also how he was murdered on the front steps of a church. Be warned there are some graphic photos of his murder.
All was nice. Note that at least on Saturdays the church is closed between x time around noon and only reopens at 4 pm.Also if you go by Uber you cannot take an Uber back from downtown area.
Its one of historical buildings in downtown San Salvador, as a Cathedral u can fine peace in your soul and good place to relax in deeply meditations , well recommend
A temple to the glory of God, and place of the tomb of a Saint San Romero de América! Awsome, inspiring...
Its just Beautiful...
Loved this place and its history, my son is writing in his Journal what he learned and to share with his class when we head back to California
This Cathedral is the place where rest the Archbishop Oscar Romero, assassinated in 1980. Pope John Paul II, visited twice this Cathedral, he prayed on the tomb of Oscar Romero. Also on March 2011, President Barak Obama visited the Cathedral and the tomb. As this place was not planned on the trip of the President, for security reason, they needed to block all the city to allow the President of USA to access the Cathedral.According to Pope John Paul II, this Cathedral is "intimately allied with the joys and hopes of the Salvadoran people."[
Beautiful place the crypt was great to visit
Though not worshippers we were welcomed to enter during an evening service to appreciate the restored beauty.
Beautiful Cathedral. Clean and many security
Loved it ! It was so beautiful and peaceful
Beautiful! Try to go in the morning or evening when the sun is at either of the colorful glass walls for an amazing view.
Calm, beautiful place to visit
Not a catholic. This place has lots of history. Worth exploring. Historic district must see.
One of the most important places in Salvadoran history. A must see if you visit el centro historico.
An architectural Magic..A must visit place!!!
There are only 2 places listed to visit for San Salvador and this was one of them.
Beautiful place. Didnt walk inside but saw it from the outside. The structure and design is different and appealing.
I was born in El Salvador but, Ive never had the chance of being near by Teatro Nacional... its my utmost pleasure and respect for being able to see such beautiful architecture. I felt such freedom while I was taking my time walking all over and taking as much pictures as I wanted to. This place has become one of my favorites in such little time. Willing to come back on my next trip
Beautiful, SAFE, a must if your in the city.
It is very interesting to see people murmuring chants to God in the park and trying to convert people around them without making much sense in what they are saying. There is a lot of security with big guns all around the park and cathedral. It comes as being part of a bigger project to rescue downtown San Salvador and something nice could happen with all the renovations happening. There are nice cafés all around the cathedral. Still people litter the streets in front of those trying to clean it. I feel that the cathedral is very nice with a lot of history but it seems as though the people around dont care much for history, nor the importance of keeping things clean and orderly.
This is one of the lesser ornate cathedral in my travel but has its own character and a beautiful stain glass above the main entrance.
Nice place for a walk at night and have a great time with friends and family
U really feel u are in Latin America, security with guns .... old Spanish gospel songs and gracious God we will be back home soon.In all the hustle there is definitely a calm and legions of pigeons all around. The epicentre of the cultural and political revolution
Will definitely visit again place was colo ial great art and very clean
Bless the ones who get to come here
The new transformation of the historic center of San Salvador done by the ex major Nayib Bukele has been a succes and the people has accepted the work done by Bukele
Nice place - peaceful
Beautiful cathedral located in downtown San Salvador. I love the art in particular the art celebrating Archbishop Oscar Romero. The architecture is quite nice. The cathedral was completed in 1999
This is a historical place in downtown San Salvador and its surrounded by the plaza public library and national theater its was recently remodeled streets are just for pedestrians its nics place to visit there coffee bars and restaurants
It is a nice big church building, well maintained, very nice paintings, the ceiling is well designed, the lights are good, floor well polished.Mass was on, when I visited, and it’s very loud and chaotic outside, but it’s peaceful inside, they have a good sized gathering for mass, and all are welcomed to attend.
Very nice cathedral
The cathedral is a monumental building. Just thinking about its massive size makes one wonder the number of workers needed to complete its construction. The outside of the place is nice and neat, especially at night.
I dont an especif word but I can say you that is the best catedral
Perfect to take pictures on weekends afternoons. There guided visits hosted by some nearby cafes
The church where is buried the martir Monseñor Romero, soon to be a saint by the Vatican 🇻🇦
I have to say it was prettier before with all the art, but is the center of San Salvador, before come here I saw pics where the lights where on at evening, sadly I came there yesterday and the lights where off, i hope come other day and go in! Must visit place
Interesting location with history from the El Salvador civil wars in the 70s and 80s. The neighborhood is very depressed and armed police and military were everywhere. Be careful in this high crime area.
