Messinn - Seafood restaurant in Reykjavik, Iceland
It’s a very popular place in town. The wait staff are all very kind and we could hardly see any local in this busy place. We found everything too salty whether it’s the fish or the soup but maybe it’s just us. The place overall was very warm and cozy.
Had the most incredible fish of my life here! Got the Wolffish, after reading so much about it in the reviews, and oh my goodness, could have never imagined how delicious this dish is! Honestly, it is out of this world. Changed everything I knew about fish. You definitely have to try it, it is more than worth it. In general, nice atmosphere, friendly staff and big portions. Even asked for rye bread and they gave me some extra, along with the bread appetiser. Would give more stars if I could ❤️
Highly recommend this restaurant! And it’s worth the wait! We waited for two hours since we didn’t make a reservation. Walked around the town while waiting. The food was impeccable! We ordered wolffish fish pan and seafood pasta. This was our first time trying wolffish and it was buttery and flaky and the dish was so craveable! The artic char in the pasta was cooked perfectly. Overall, it was one of the best meals I’ve had in Reykjavik. We were very satisfied!
5 stars just for the pan fish. We had the arctic char, plaice, and wolffish. All were delicious and well-seasoned.The appetizers weren’t the best. The lobster soup was watered down and poorly portioned. The bread was OK but the pesto sauce was a bit bitter.Overall, definitely recommend for the pan fish, just steer clear of the lobster soup.Service was good.
Our tour guide says its the best fish restaurant in Reykjavik, I think he didnt lie.wolffish is really good. Fish is fried, top with cream sauce, together with salad, tomatoes, pepper, mushrooms, the craziest is fresh grape too.Dish came in 15mins after I ordered. Quantities is good, I can manage to fish it alone since its so good.
A small, laid back, casual place. Average priced for this town. A beer, soup and entree came to $55. Lobster soup was not worth a try, watery and tasteless. However fish entrees are worth a try. Their cod special was good enough to share for 2 people. Overall, a good experience.
Hands down probably one of if not the best meal I have had. The food and service were amazing! I had the wolffish and the apple crumble and words cannot describe how good the fish was. Every bite was just as good as the last. This place is truly spectacular. As other have mentioned definitely make reservations so that you dont show up and get turned away!
Messinn was a great experience all around. Great service and delicious seafood. They serve great fish types in skillets. We had the Arctic char and the cod. Both were seasoned and cooked perfectly. Each dish had an interesting combination of ingredients for great taste layers and the best mouth feels ever.Definitely will go back.PS: Make a reservation!
The most delicious lobster soup on Iceland. Highly recommended. As main courses we ordered arctic char and sea food pasta. Both meals were absolutely amazing! Arctic char was served with roasted almonds, potatoes and spinach. Fish was super fresh. Whereas, Sea food pasta gives you a glimpse of the whole menu. You can taste everything in one meal. There is a bite of each type of fish. Apart from that, the service was great. Kudos to waitress Marysia.
Great food, very friendly staff, and a pleasant atmosphere. Pretty decent portions. I highly recommend this place. Would gladly come back.
The best seafood dishes I’ve ever had in my life!!!! So great we stopped by during our Iceland trip🥹♥️ Must try their fish
Every fish dish comes in a pan with a pan sauce that is remarkable. It is a must try if you’re in the area. Definitely in my Iceland remarks.
The fish pans were delicious. The fish was very fresh, tender, and juicy. Even the potatoes were great (maybe Icelandic potatoes are just superior to American ones?We got the arctic char and plaice - very hearty and satisfying meal on a cold day. Staff are helpful too when recommending food for the lactose intolerant.
Delicious lunch! The fish pans are super tasty - keeping all the flavour achieved in the cooking process. We even asked for spoons to eat all the sauce! Service was friendly and efficient. Lovely selection of cocktails. This place has been added to the favourites list.
This was the best fish Ive ever had! All of the options sounded delicious. They are a fish restaurant and have one vegan option, which my friend said was delicious and filling. The bread basket came with butter and a pesto, which was amazing, and perfect to soak up some of the left over sauce from the fish pan.
Wow! The food was fabulous and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. When in Reykjavik, go here for delicious sea food, prepared well and with a twist. The wolffish had grapes - a wonderful addition!
Perfect location for a restaurant, on the high street. We had see food pasta and plokkfiskur(something like a stew made with chopped codThe portions were too big(3 normal portionsand too heavy ( too much sauce and the flavours were blended together). Nice decor and friendly staff.
Excellent food and decently priced for Iceland. Very good fish. Had the arctic char and salmon! Gluten free for a lot too!
Staffs very nice and the restaurant is very clean. However, to be honest, I dont know the all food I ordered is delicious. One more thing, I was very difficult to fine parking space.
Really good food. Nice quality, very well cooked, good quantities, seasoning is also fine. Nice staff. Congrats to those people. Make sure to book in advance if you want to secure your table. We were lucky because after us they had to refuse people without reservation.
We had our dinner here (a port visit from our cruise shipand it was absolutely Icelandic delicious. If you are looking for a special cozy seafood restaurant, this is it!! The service was super great!! We had the wolf fish and seafood pasta 😋😋
Taste of fish pan and sea food pasta is fine, but the serving time is long and the taste and plating is not that refined as expected. Note: This restaurant is reservation only! And most table are empty for more than an hour.
This was one of our best meals in Iceland! The lobster soup was delicious and the fish plates were great. The Icelandic fish pan was especially good and I would highly recommend trying this great local dish! The service, atmosphere and food were all top notch and we really enjoyed it! It was slightly more expensive than other places we ate, but all food in Iceland is expensive, we thought this was good value for money.
Nice atmosphere. I tried the lobster soup, it was ok. The real star here was the wolffish grill plate. We loved the peppery sauce and the fish was excellently cooked.
We tried the two traditional Icelandic fish pan options and they were amazing. Might be too big for some people but worth it to get more than one.
Such great value for money. Very delicious food and great service. Fresh, well seasoned, straight forward.
As great as I remembered it. Ive been to Messinn before 2 years ago and the food quality had remained the same. This time I tried the Ling and it was super tasty. I recommend getting it with a bread basket so you can take full advantage of the amazing sauce it comes with. Clean, fast service and relaxed atmosphere paired with delicious food.
Very good food! The pan has enough food for two people if you also take starters… of course we didn’t know it and we had too much food, but we came out of the place with full bellies and smiley faces
Not impressed at all. Lobster soup was just ok. we had lobster soup in 4 different places in Iceland and all other places were way better. We ordered the plaice fish as a main dish which was way too salty and came 1.5 hours after we ordered. Other tables were complaining about the service as well. Not sure why the restaurant is rated so high.
The staff is very friendly and attentive, and made sure to prepare our food quickly. The food was delicious, and the atmposhere of the restaurant was very inviting, clean, and cozy.
Super friendly staff, lovely langoustine soup (highly recommended), and fish is perfectly cooked. I am removing 1 star since the fish in the pan was very salty and I couldnt finish it because it was just getting too salty towards the end. Nothing else to complain though! We had a lovely dinner :)
Just had a super nice lobster soup and the salmon burger. Delicious af!Also the freshly made bread with the super soft pesto is next level!
Best dinner weve had in Iceland so far. Delicious, big portions, reasonably priced. The menu was so well put together. It was obvious that each ingredient was chosen to balance and compliment eachother. Vibe was cosy and comfortable, with great service. Absolutely perfect evening. Thankyou!
The food in Iceland is so good. No preservatives, everything tasted so fresh. Never had a bad dining experience. This was a great dinner spot beside the Hardrock.
Such a delightful restaurant. The service was lovely and the fish was some of the best Ive ever had. Served in a single pan, straight from the kitchen to your table. Flavoursome, tasty and overall a delicious experience.
One word- DIVINE! Honestly, up there with the best meals of my life. The starter of giant prawns with Pearl barley was ridiculously tasty. The artic char was sensational- so much so I devoured it before taking a picture. Please go here if you are in Reykjavik. You will not regret it! Staff friendly but attentive and just a gorgeous atmosphere (even if you are on your own!)
I love the fish pans! Also the service is really friendly. We were 5 people and did not have to reserve a table.
Best meal we had in Reykjavik. Loved the way everything was presented in a frying pan! Gorgeous!!
Aside from the unusual sauces served with the food, which Im not sure if it is an icelandic thing or not, the food was pretty good. The fish soup lacked a bit of depth when compared to other soups we had in Iceland and one of the fish dishes was overly salty. Service was fantastic.
I LOVE their fish dishes! Very fresh food with interesting menu. Food came in a burning pan, and the volume is big! Lots of people are sharing one pan between two. We had Char and fish tongue, both delicious. Service is good and price is decent in Reykjavik.
We just had a wonderful dinner here! The food is excellent - cooked to perfection, with bold, complex flavors and textures. We had a big group so we had the opportunity to taste several dishes! For me, my favorite for the night was the cod cheeks. The fish melted in your mouth! The Arctic char was wonderful too - seared on the outside, with crisp skin and moist, tasty flesh. Very fresh!Too bad they didn’t have the highly acclaimed wolf fish. That was what I was planning to order.Service was great. Unobtrusive, but they made sure all our needs were taken cared off. They even cooked a little extra for our friend whose leftovers were unwittingly thrown out as she wanted to take some home. They also allowed us to do individual checks!Highly recommend this place!!!!
I visited this restaurant twice in May 2021. Ive never had such amazing fish dishes in my life! Furthermore, it wasnt expensive considering the high quality of the food.
Well, I tried the artic char, from my perspective is a bit more spicy, and lot of sugar. We had also something in a pan, the first choice, was good as well. The portions are good enough, maybe too much and maybe you need to order some bread because the dishes by itself they dont have any carb. Worth it a try. Prices are ok for Iceland.
Seafood forward restaurant — very cozy and welcoming. Attentive and friendly service. The portions are quite generous and our seafood pasta and salmon entrees were perfectly cooked and quite flavorsome. Dinner is a show! Entrees arrive in searing hot frying pans directly from the kitchen. Highly recommended.
Its restaurant for sea food only. The portions are big, and the food is so tasty. Its not expensive and the service staff were great - friendly, polite, knowledgeable. Highly recommend it.
Definitely the best meal we had in Iceland! We loved it so much we had to come back one more time before heading home. Highly recommend the Wolf fish, Arctic char, and Plokkfiskur! The food was delicious and came out super quick.
4.25 stars. Located right near the hard rock cafe this place gets busy. Recommended to make a booking, which can easily be done online.Entree and mains were fantastic. Tried the creamy wolf fish and the sweeter arctic char. Both fantastic. The dessert was fine.About £100 for 2 with a couple of glasses of wine.
The food was delicious. The lobster bisque was creamy and satisfying. We had the wolf fish for an entree; it was mouthwatering. Great service and a cozy environment. Pair it with a nice glass of wine and you’re in for a great meal.
Great tasting food with amazing service. Only thing to have in mind is that parking is difficult, otherwise I would have given this establishment 5 stars. I recommend the Arctic Char, plokkfiskur and the wolf fish. The atmosphere is amazing as well.
One of the best restaurants Ive been to. I love that Messinn focuses on fish and seafood dishes, and therefore doesnt foray into other meats etc. Their passion for food is obvious and observable in their attention to detail. Most of the dishes come out on hot pans, and the balance between the fish, starch, vegetables, and garnish, is impeccable. Their wine selection is very fine as well. The prices are more than reasonable for the top-notch quality. If youre a fan of seafood, there is nowhere better to go in Iceland.
