Mesón Cumbres Mayores - Andalusian restaurant in Cadiz, Spain
Fabulous food, good portion size. Typical Spanish atmosphere.
The food tasted good, but because it wasnt clear that tapas could only be had at the bar, and not the tables outside, we did over-order. I think during a time when people are still conscious of crowded environments during a pandemic it is a little inconsiderate to offer only larger (and so more expensivedishes to people who wish to sit in open air. However, the pork cheek was excellent, and so were the kidneys. The manchego cheese was very nice (I suggest saving some bread, or stealing some potatoes from another dish to go with the cheese, and it really matches nicely with a glass of redbut the chorizo was underwhelming.Service was decent, though a little more guidance and recommendation would have been preferable.
Avoid. Extremely rude ‘welcome’ after reserving in advance on a busy fiesta day. Revealingly this place was not that busy and was not the traditional Cadiz ‘restaurant familiar’ the website suggests but looked more like ‘a tourist trap’. I voted with my feet and went to the much friendlier Restaurante San Francisco Uno nearby.
Amazing Tapas, desert, ambience, great drinks. A must when in Cadiz.
The overall food is fine, but it is not nice to find in the bill afterwards additional costs for simple tapas that a waiter brought to the table although we didn’t order them, and they are usually free in Andalucía. I would recommend asking in advance if this happens.
Stumbled upon this restaurant as somewhat of a last resort. Food was average and one of our more expensive meals.
Overpriced. Only half of my meal arrived, only after asking I got the rest. Unfriendly waiter, somehow the place is packed with tourists. But overrated.
I love the atmosphere in this restaurant, its really vibrant and busy, with mainly locals enjoying the best tapas in Cadiz.I first came here through work after a local recommended it to us, and whenever Im here, I head straight to this quality food establishment. The chorizo sausage either on the skewer or on its own as sausage is so tasty. Along with the albondigas (meatballscomplimented with patas bravas (which is included). They farm their own produce in the village, from which the restaurant is named after and its so good! 😋
Great place. Sat outside and had 3 dishes to share which were all fantastic and we were stuffed after them. Wines were lovely and service excellent
Fantastic place, very busy at times but only adds to the experience.Great food, drink and atmosphere.
Such a lively bar with friendly staff.
The best place in CadizSeguro 👏
A must go! Excellent food and amazing, attentive Service!
The experience of the location is top. The interior is very nice and looks like a old fashioned western love store. The waiter was very busy, because he recommended a bottle of wine at 150 euros. This was a little bit to exclusive. Overdrawn. The food was in a good condition and the taste was fine. The price range is higher than normal. 3 person 124 euros. This is for Cádiz to much. Conclusión. I have been there for the first time and go to a another possible Mesón at the main city of cadiz. Sorry for not amazing 4 stars. The price range is to high.
We were there only for beer and tapas. This was during the last soccer game for their local team in the Spanish league, which was not shown at the restaurant (too sophisticated for that...). But we could hear the locals cheer and commiserate during the game. At the end, a loud cheer and a noisy celebration. I asked the waiter whether they won the championship. He explained that they lost the game and were about to be kicked down to the minor league, but another team (Granadaalso lost their last game n the season, so the local team survived. I could not imagine what would happen if they ever become champions!Bottom line, the tapas are phenomenal, and the vibe in the terrace outside the restaurant was also great.
Nice place, but food ruined by too much salt ( and I like lots of salt normallyand miserable waiter.
What a place! Food was incredible and with surprising flavors. Red whine was really good too and it was all served by friendly staff. When you are in Cadiz, check out this place!
Excelent food and service.
Wow, what a place. Beautiful interior and great atmosphere. The shrimps in olive oil with garlic were incredible, although steep at €13.50, and the waiter said I couldn’t do a half portion. They serve it with nice bread though. Also, you can have smaller tapas for €3.50-€5. Definitely an elevated tapas place that still feels authentic.
As soon as I saw our very professional waiter and all of the age and experience in the rest of their crew, I just knew this would be a special meal in a special establishment. Entirely impressed and cant wait to return again. I had the Iberia meat dish with the melted goat cheese, so much flavor. Loved the black sausage plate and garlic shrimp and fresh baked bread.
Stopped in here today, didnt get the chance to sample too much, but I had the Berza Gaditana (local stewas a half plate, and a couple of montaditos (1 was Iberian ham of course, and another anchovy. The stew was fab - enough as a double tapa dish I guess. Id be eating a full size portion next time and not bother snacking all day. Waiters and service all nice and friendly too - sat outside so didnt really see too much of the decor - but really enjoyed it. Recommended
We had the grill platter for two. Simple but well prepared and tasty In a huge portion.
Just don’t. We went on recommendation so had expectations but were so disappointed. Unless you have a severe salt deficiency then the food is absolutely inedible. Please dont waste your money here. Good wine though.
Excellent food and atmosphere. Great, but unobtrusive service. Its always busy so you may need to be patient to get a space, its worth it.
10/10U must be here.Amazing food & taste.
Not to be missed. The best food experience weve had in Andalucia. Fantastic ambience and we were well looked after by the staff, especially Kike. Sensed it was family owned, great buzz about the place, food and wine were first class. So good we returned for lunch the next day.
Excellent food and tapas . Not to forget the superb sangria. Service is attentive and efficient . A wonderfull place for friendly get out with friends . Better reserve your table
We liked all food. The service is very good! Reccomended 👌👌 there is a perfect place to choose from a lot of diches of meat👌
This was our second tapa place for the same night - and that was a mistake, since we were already quite full and could barely take only two of these delicious tapas! Although in Cadiz you usually go for seafood, this is the place for meat lovers. Both pork cheeks and kidneys were excellent - and looking at the menu there were several tapas we would have loved to try. As usual, sit in bar in order to sample tapas as otherwise you need to take portions.
This is a popular place with great food and atmosphere. Try to sit in the bar or terrace and the salon feels a bit out of the way.
Great food but there is an option that you have to wait for a table. I had to wait for about 30 minutes. Have in mind that there is rules depend on what you are going to eat. Regarding this you may be asked to sit outside, inside or in restaurant hall. But finally, you can enjoy the dishes. Cheers!
This is a good restaurant / place to eat tapas and Andalusian food. Rustic decoration, a small terrace to enjoy the good weather of Cadiz. They have good meats (iberian pork was tasty, bellota ham melting in the mouth), good wines, even the tinto de verano was great. Great place to eat local and typical food.
Nice food and good friendly staff. They speak very good English. I would recommend the chorizo.
Some very basic things leave much to be desired. The potatoes that came under our raciones were flavorless. Also, the chistorritas were like vienna sausages and lacked the quality I would expect from an Andalusian restaurant.
Disappointing. The menu and pics seemed to make sense based on the ratings but, unfortunately the food was just not good. Ingredients and method were just off - in fact, some of the worst potatoes that I wasn’t even sure if they were supposed to be fried or boiled.Regret visiting and won’t be coming back. Service was prompt and good, it’s just the food that’s really not good. After a few restaurants here, I’ve learned it’s best to stick to seafood. The rest is lagging when compared to the rest of Spain.
Great Tapas around 3 to 4 Euro. It had been recommended to me by a friend of mine who was born in Cadiz. He wasnt wrong. ☺️
Friendly, delicious, crowded. One of the best tapas bar i have ever been in. They used every minute to serve us till closeing time. You should wait for a place if the seats are all taken!(And the sangria was good as well)
Nice place with authentic food with affordable prices
Really nice spot in Cadiz. Great food, specially meats (Iberian porkfrom Cumbres Mayores, like Spanish ham, carrillera (cheeksand much more.
Food was excellent and staff were lovely. However as with elsewhere a little Spanish helps but a big smile for the staff goes a long way! 5 tapas enough for two people. Recommend the carillada and the flamenquines. Tapas only at the bar. If arrive before 9pm will probably get a seat!
Simply amazing!!! If you want hearty no fuss traditional Spanish food this is the place! It has an old world tavern feel, fantastic tapas bar, great selection of wines and mouth watering food! We had slow cooked pork cheeks (carilladaand the Iberian secret wich is a delicious pork steak. And the ham was melt in your mouth delicious! I will go back to Cadiz just to there again
First og all, the grilled pieces of meat are top notch! Veal, wild boar, outstanding! But other items on the menu are not worth your time and money. Salad is bad, cold cuts, average, and so on. And for this price you should expect everything to be very good.Plus bad service. If you want some well grilled meat, go right in, if you are after anything else, do look further!
Ive been eating here many times over 15 years - never disappointed! The tapas are good size for a small amount of money. One of my favorite restaurants in Cadiz!Friendly and attentive staff!I highly recommend this place!
Really enjoyed the tapas here, so decided to have a full meal. Had the fillet mignon, and my wife had pork. Disappointed with mine as it was over salted and the veg a little bland. Not worth €16. Wifes was much better but still disappointing compared to the tapas we had.
Delicious tapas and raciones and all very reasonably priced. Knocking a star off as the staff didn’t crack a smile the whole time we were there.
A beautiful bar serving traditional tapas. Loved the decoration and all the plats that we ate. Definitely recommend you to try the beef stew, the tuna stew and the bacon (see the picture).
Really glad I went here! The tapas was delicious, wine was tasty, and they were very friendly. Highly recommended.
Super delicious!!! Meats are amazing... best restaurant in Cadiz!
The lamb was very fatty and not especially well cooked. The food came out promptly but we were left with empty plates for a long time. Main course was very expensive for the quality of food and portion size. Not the best grill weve been to. Service was incredibly slow and the waiters seemed really inattentive. Pudding for two was very large and not particularly well thought out. Would not recommend if youre looking for a nice meal out.
Excellent food, eat off the tapas menu. Good value. Great atmosphere. Prompt and friendly service.
