Meson Criollo - Seafood restaurant in Cadiz, Spain
Friendly service - tasteless food. 2/5
Fabulous meal gorgeous selection of local racions. As always we over ordered but left full and happy
Great food but we ordered a seabream and it was super tiny. When we told it to the waiter and the manager they didnt care and said there is nothing they can do about it.They also said that if we dont pay the whole amount for the fish they will call the police .Ive never came across with something like this in my life
Lovely food at a flashy restaurant (compared to its neighbours). Great sitting outside. Very friendly service.
Great restaurant, youll really enjoy your holiday in this place. Staff are all about the customer. Really recommend this place, and will make it a point to be back there next year.
Delicious tuna. Fast and kind personal. Very nice place. Thank you
Good restaurant to have fish. Not expensive. Nice waiters.
Excellent food and service, fair price.
Super food and great value for money.
We had lunch here today. Lovely spot to sit and enjoy the sunshine.Gratis olives but the up charge of 0.95 for the bread is a little like price gouging (particularly when we didn’t ask for it and they brought it to the table. We ordered the house salad but they brought the wrong one first. Lots of cheese and a creamy dressing that sits a little heavy and overwhelms the vegetables somewhat. We would have liked either peppers or families in it as well. The Mixed typical fish was good but the pickled dogfish really was the tastiest thing. The anchovies were nice and light, the squid were perfect but the cuttlefish was a bit chewy.Decent service. A bit pricy but not surprising considering the tourist location.
Great food with actually fast service! We took out waiter’s advice on the fish of the day and did not regret it. They even brought my 3-year-old’s food out first, which is always a relief. They have some fun things to try, too, not just the typical Spanish food.
Some good reviews seen but be careful what you order. The dishes we had were the most tasteless wed had on our 10 day tour of Spain. Im not sure how Calamari can be so bland and anemic or a prawn and avocado salad so uninspiring in taste. Even the table olives left you not wanting a second. To be told by the waiter that none of the fish on the menu was fresh but you can have fresh sea bass just seemed over persuasive, when pressed on the price several times (as it wasnt on the menuit turned out to be the most expensive thing you could have, no wonder the rest of the fish was advised as not fresh, what a great way to sell fish?! El Faro restaurant just around the corner saved the evening, like night and day in comparison of taste, ambiance and flavours. If you have time and money to waste on food youd be easily able to produce in a better way yourself then fine, hopefully other menu items were better, no no way could I recommend trying them to find out.
I like the place. Super nice service 👍🏼 Some dishes are excellent but some are not as good. Don’t order fried seafood, especially the fried squid ring, there’s just too much oil. Also the dish “carne de la casa” is not good either, it’s like a hamburger meat but lack of salt.Since the restaurant is located in la Viña zone, it has a really cool atmosphere, if you can seat outside.
Excellent food and service. We ate there twice at lunchtime.
Fresh fish from the grill. We had the seabass, and the sardines were tasty too.Attentive service staff
Calamar a la plancha and chipirones were burnt. Perhaps they need to clean the grill better or the food went straight from the freezer to the grill 😔 Service was friendly though. // Comida un poco quemada pero nuestro camarero era muy amable.
Most of the food is served outside at tables these days (2021), but the weather has been nice. The food is good and the service is excellent.
Great service and good food. We had the fried seafood plate (warning this is definitely not the fried fish platter like we eat in the USA). The cheese flan was so so (not really a flan, more like a foamy dessert made with gelatin).
I had a really good experience at this restaurant. The staff is really welcoming and take care of you. We had some seafood plates and it very good.
The service here is excellent, had a great meal even if it rained. Would recommend.
My family and I went last night for dinner. Fried fish was soaked in oil, or fried at too low a temperature. They forgot salt after frying the fish. Grilled sardines were not cooked, they may have forgotten to actually grill them, I sent them back. Garlic shrimp that we were up sold on tasted like they just defrosted a frozen microwave dinner. The only edible item we tried was the Criolle Baked Potato.... if you go here, stick to the baked potato! No pictures as the situation didn’t deserve the privilege of memory, I’m still trying to forget the experience...
Great food. Always a good sign when nearby places are empty but here there is a queue. Had the grilled tuna and swordfish, was delicious and cooked perfectly. 5/5 would definitely return.
We went there for diner after wandering in the close beach and in the areas. The location is great, and the terrace in the middle of the street gives an incredible ambiance to this restaurant. We were a bit suspicious when we sat as one of the firsts customers there, but half an hour later, the restaurant was packed with spanish people. We tried some fresh cuttlefish and a paella, both were good, not the best ones we had over our stay in andalousia - but good enough for a simple diner. The service was really attentive to customers and the food very quick to get out of the kitchen.
Good location, but over-priced food for average-quality fishfries
Of 5 dishes, two were good, three distinctly average at best. Stale bread also. Wouldn’t come back.
Its a fabulous location on a beautiful, atmospheric street in Cadiz old town. The food is ok, if perhaps over-priced, and you can eat better for less very nearby.
Very cosy and very busy place at lunchtime (cant imagine it in the evenings).
Had a delicious seafoid paella here this evening, and I have no hesitation in giving the restaurant, the service, and, of course, the food 5 stars. The inside dining area is clean, spacious and brightly decorated with colourful posters of Cadiz festivals over the years. Our server appeared to be multilingual and went out of his way to make sure that we were well looked after, even to the.point of choosing our desert for us. My wife, being the braver of the two of us, asked him to bring whatever he recommended. The result was a very light and tasty fig flan. All of the food came very quickly. A memorable evening.
And again: never go to touristic places where they have the menu in more than two languages...It was very crowded, so we thought it might be a good restaurant. But in fact the quality of the food was very low.We hat fish filets (tuna and swordfish, wich were absoluteley tasteless. Just cooked instead of grilled as was written on the menu and without any seasoning. One of the filets was not even properly cooked, so ot was half raw. It was served with a tiny bit of salad (also without any seasoning and tasteless). The shrimp tortillas tasted like old fat :/ and was served before the rest of the food although it was declared as main course on the menu, so we had to eat seperately.Sangria was nice though and the service was friendly.I would not recommend this place because of the very expencive prices compared to verly low quality of the food.
Dry paella, fish not cleaned properly. For the price it is not worth. I do not recommend.
Nice atmosphere and although the staff are busy they make a decent effort.Ideal area for lunch or dinner.
Very nice dinner, I am not sure about the clams being 450g
Lovely fresh food and friendly staff. The creole jacket potato was delicious and the chorizo was gorgeously meaty. The perfect lunch!
We had seafood paella. Was gorgeous. Service great too.
Very friendly, lovely atmosphere starters were excellent especially the crab salad! Good value for money
Food was delicious, the place was cozy and service was fast. Highly recomended.
For the best experience take some tapas, with a beer or a sherry, at the bar which are not served to the tables.
Its an unpretentious backstreet restaurant in Cadiz but the staff were friendly and the food was good, also good value.
We had corioles (snailsgreat.
Expensive, touristy place. Even charge for the bread, service bad. Seafood pasta was alright, but stay away, enough other places around.
Delicious, attentive English speaking waiters. Great experience overall.
Really good food, I had the pescaito Frito with a sangria. The staff is really friendly. Had a great time!
Not the best, small portion of fried squids and no fresh at all, the paella super cooked, salad with prown flavorless. The wine was good.
Its OK. But I definitely wouldnt come back. A bit disappointed. Salad? Iceberg few shreds and a slice of tomato ??? Ehhhh not impressed. And not the cheapest either...
If I could give this restaurant 0 stars, I would. In the last 30 years, I havent had worse food in a restaurant. We ordered grilled prawns, a fish soup with clams and cooked vegetables. The vegetables were FROZEN, then cooked to death and not even seasoned with salt! I can eat almost anything, but this was so disgusting, that I tried one bite and that was it. The grilled prawns was the only dish which was edible, but still not seasoned well enough andthe prawns were served on raw unseasoned cabbage leaves which made no sense whatsoever. The fish soup was way to salty and the fish, oh my God, the fish was the worst fish I have ever had in my life. You couldnt chew it at all and the fish skin was slimy, chewy and had the consistency of rubber. On top of that, the recommended red wine was also really bad. All that costed 60 EUR. Even though we complained, the waiter didnt want to adjust the bill according. Worse food experience in Spain.
Not a bad restaurants, but much better places in Cadiz (GO TO EL FARO TACO BAR!!)
Very good fish - try the catch of the day a la planch - delicius! Good wine. Service is good with some waiters :)
Attentive staff. Very Wide menu including some Argentinean dishes. Tuna was excellent. Seafood paella a 4+. Fresh grilled fish a five. Sides an afterthought. Coffee excellent. Prices typical for tourists area but not too high. Indoor and outdoor tables in a traffic free food corridor not far from the main fort attraction.
Langostines and fish were amazing. Service was perfect. Great setting. Highly recommended for a trip to Cadiz!!
Perfect. Among the best services I had in the whole of Spain. The food was really good and not that expensive either.
