Meru National Park in Embu

This is one of the hidden gems of Kenyan fauna and flora. There are vast number of animals such as thousands of elephants, hundreds of herds of buffaloes, water bucks, giraffes, warthogs, antelopes, gazelles, and many more. If you are keen rise early you are likely to see lions, leopards, and other carnivores hunting! are myriads of birds like Somali ostriches, herons, crown birds, storks, sterling among others.Meru national park is especially known for the rhinos. It has a large well-protected and preserved rhino sanctuary. It boasts of white rhino and has the second largest rhino population in Africa.The are numerous hotels in this well-watered vast wild. Id advise that you go there with a plan to spend the night and enjoy the full experience of the wild.The only downside is the road to getting there. The road from Maua town is a bit too pot-holed and rough...but I suppose it is the Safari experience!😎

The best park to see the Rhinos and Buffalos

Absolutely loved Meru. It is like how Africa used to be - wild and authentic. A great place to see both white and black rhino, and where Elsa the lioness rests.

If you real want to stay out of the crowd from tourists in Kenya, then Meru National Park is a right choice to visit.

Beautiful park but now poorly maintained. Apart from main routes the smaller roads overgrown and sometimes impassable resulting in frequent turn around and back tracking. Animals widely spread. Campsite had appalling filthy toilets. The Banda hadno power, monkeys easily got into the kitchen, bats in the bedroom and for all this our non-resident family paid a total of nearly 700usd for 3 days. The cost of parks in Kenya now make it almost impossible to enjoy with non resident visitors and KWS only interested in taking the money. No interest in showcasing this country with pride.

This park offers one of the best rhino-viewing experiences in the world .its a home of endangered black and white rhino species.

This park is awesome. We went in Jan 2022 and in 2 days saw kifaru, tembo, twiga, kiboko, simba, nyati plus loads of antelopes, monkeys and birds (including ostrich). Mutisia, who is the KWS host at the Bandas, was really friendly & helpful - he taught us the Swahili words for the animals above. The bandas are well worth staying at and cooking in the outdoor caged kitchen was fun.

Visited the park with my family over Christmas, and had a beautiful and relaxing experience. There’s something calming in that air 😁Bummed that we didn’t get to see Elephants or Lions as we wished though.The paths are well marked, so you can’t get lost and the guide gave us her number just in case. It should be noted that in some places around the park there is little to no network.Make sure to carry snacks, a camera and go with a car that’s suitable for the terrain because they don’t offer transport.There are many hotels surrounding and within the camp that can offer great all inclusive services.

My trip to the park was a self-drive. It was during the afternoon and we did not manage to see most of the big 5. We were lucky enough to see a lion that was feeding on a zebra but it ran and hid on seeing us. The trails in the park are well-labelled. We did not seek the services of a guide. Most of the areas in the park were dry during our visit, apart from the areas along the many rivers that we crossed.

Very green and full of large shrubs and trees. Loads of Rhinos and the entire Big 5 can be viewed in this park.

Very beautiful. Affordable. Can get hot carry plenty of water and snacks the food places are a distance from the maua gate. The roads were tricky but overall enjoyable.

“Complete Wilderness”Brilliant on a magnificent scale, the Meru and Kora sister parks feature luxuriant jungle, coursing rivers, verdant swamp, khaki grasslands and gaunt termite cathedrals all under the sky’s great blue bowl. Little visited and utterly unspoilt, few places are comparable to the remote and rugged atmosphere found here. Visitors can see Grevys zebras, elephants, Bohor reedbucks, hartebeests, pythons, puff adders, cobras, buffalos and more than 427 recorded species of birds.

One of the best national park in kenyaWe saw more than 12 species of mammals like lion and rhino and more than 40 species of birds.

Went on 6th to 8th August 2021.Saw very few animals.... Which was immensely a disappointment. 3 years back MERU National Park was great... Infact I thought it superceded the Mara.... But its now below par. Dont waste your money visiting the park... Its a disaster... Why cant the county government work on preserving and conserving our wildlife

Very nice park where you can see a lot of Kenyas animals and birds.

Hey lets be honest.. Yeah we saw a couple of animals but nowhere near what we expected and the overall trip was not a success.. Didnt enjoy ourselves much as the park is very poorly supported and though very scenic however very few services offered and KWS just want to make some gate entrance fees however.. NO hotel in that park for locals.. BEWARE..

We saw some of the big 5’s! Rhino River Camp were the organizers of the Game Drive and it was breathtaking! The park is huge, so please come with a 4x4 or call where you’ll stay and ask if they can organize for you the game drive.

Excellent park for watching birds, hippos, Meru Elephants, Thompson gazelles, rhinos, and off course the famous Bridge that is built next to the River.

Beautiful place to be in some thick bush. What a view of a wide range of bird species.

Loved the park, we had a great time, animals are really shy tho, startled a couple coming around a bend and they were not too happy, chased by an elephant and black rhino. Lol. . Was highlight of kids trip. Camped inside the park and we absolutely loved being there. Will be back.

Virgin Jungle, one of the best parks to visit. Need patience as its hot and humid. Alot of privacy as not many tourists visit this park thus gives u alot of time with animals alone. Birders paradise too. A park not to be missed.

I had a good stay. Our accomodation was initially given to another family but we finally got it. There are no lights at the guest house only generator at night. Network is poor,this is good for those who want to unwind.the game drive was breathtaking.

It depends on what you are looking for. If you are after scénarios and birds, it is the ideal place. If you are looking for a variety of animals to watch, opt for another parc

If you are the kind of person who loves nature and camping this is a really good place. Definitely not for Bougie peeps. The scenery and wildlife was amaze balls! Watch for the insects & scorpions though

Only one operational lodge which does admit without reservations

Beautiful scenery, and it was once the focus of nature tourism in Kenya, but nowdays the game density is a bit on the sparse side, coupled with the dense brush it makes it hard to see many animals. A lovely place, great public campsites with animals coming to pay a visit at night, but there are potentially better places to go if youre going that far out of Nairobi anyway.

Superb. Everything wild and beautiful conserved for you to enjoy. Wish there was no loud church music on Sunday. Do animals need such loud sounds for hours on end?

A park that is just bursting back with life after years of poaching and community conflict affected the animal population in this place.. New roads are being paved out in the park.. There are two lodges in the park.. Leopards Rock and Elsa Kopje, we however stayed at the nearby ikweta Safari camp just two kilometers from the Murera gate.It is one of the remaining true wild parks in Kenya, a must see that will truly not dissapoint.

Nice park, dusty roads. Not very scenic but has some unique wildlife. I spent 48h driving by myself in the park with a gps and couldnt get lost. Slept at the public campsite which was in great conditions and has a swimming pool. Animals Ive seen for the first time in Eastern Africa after 4 years doing safari throughout Africa: gerenuk (go to the plains to see them), reticulated giraffe (saw many!), Vulture-guineafowl, oryx, lesser kudu (manyand we were lucky to see 3 Grevy zebras inside the rhinos sanctuary. Other species we saw were hippos, 5 elephants, Grants gazelles, impalas and many many buffalos, waterbucks and dik-diks! Ive enjoyed the experience but think they could make the prices more attractive in order to bring more tourists.

A great park to spend your holidays

Dung beetles, rhinos, big tuskers and awesome birding. Our good friend and awesome guide, Simon Belcher (Royal African Safarissaid wed love Menu, and he was right. The preserve is back from nothing only a generation ago. Thank goodness.

Beautiful, well kept and a wonderful place to camp in the bush

A hidden gem that suprised us beyond our expectations. We visited this park for 2 days and compared to other trips, we felt like we were at one with nature. We only saw 2 other visitors/vehicles during the entire 2 days we were here. We felt like we had the park all to ourselves.We spotted tons of animals and when we found the lions, there was no other tourists jamming the road & fighting for a view like it had been on other safaris. We hang out with the cats for hours and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Honestly Meru national park has one of the best diversity of environments from large plains, arid areas then you have 3 large rivers crossing through giving it the oasis jungle through. To really absorb this vast park pls take 3-4days.

Best views of all the places Ive ever been to. Absolutely amazing.
