Merredin Military Museum - Army museum in Merredin, Australia
Excellent Military Museum so much history to see .Well worth a visit
Spent a couple of hours here on the way home. Could easily have stayed longer. It was closed when we arrived even though it was advertised as open, but there is a number to call and a Gentleman came and opened up for us.There is so much more here now than the last time I visited.
Very well presented and informative.
As others have said this place is like a magical cave that keeps going. The radio room and full heli, plane and shed of vehicles, plus depth of info were highlights for myself
Lots of interesting memorabilia to look at, including cool military vehicles, lovely staff.
Great collection of uniforms, weapons and vehicles. Very comprehensive for a small museum, very affordable entry.$10 or $7 for concession.Very friendly staff, great for a yarn or two.Great, cheap souvenirsEasy access, disabled friendly.Highly recommended
Great place, lots to see
Informative and helpful volunteer in office, great exhibition.
some really old equipment, here
Amazing collection of aircraft, vehicles, tanks, small-arms and memorabilia.Friendly, helpful staff who are doing a great job of restoring and maintaining Australias military history.Thoroughly blown away by how good this hidden gem of a museum is.Definitely consider leaving a donation or grabbing something from the gift shop to help them continue with restoration of the collection.Ill be sure to visit again next time Im passing through!
The volunteers have done a great job to keep our history alive. Worth a visit.
Excellent display covering WW1 & WW11, Korea, Vietnam for Army Navy and Air Force. Tanks, guns, personnel carriers, ambulance, mobile field kitchens, aircraft, helicopters and so much more of usual things. All with personal items of local people, and Merredin associations especially interesting with WW11 hospital base ruins nearby, hangars ex fuel and munitions storage areas.Well worth the visit.
Lots of great displays, very friendly volunteers, well worth a visit
Enjoyed, staff fantastic.
A very good display along with some nice people.
Good to visit but if you do the rail museum as well it gets pricey. Why cant the council get together with both organisations and combine a precinct. The council operated Tourist Bureau is closed weekends. Go figure. It seems Merredin council needs to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century.
Very good displays of Merredins ww2 story
What a terrific tribute to all those that have been in our forces So much to see. Volunteer run and mick Allen was so informative, another place to learn of OUR OWN history. Thanks
A fantastic collection of machines and memorabilia. Some items you will not see anywhere else.
Many rare and unusual vehicles and weapons. Very helpful curator/attendant.
Fantastic. This is one if those fabulous museums where you can see right up, next to the displays. Naturally, given resources and budgets in small local museums, many signs are dated and dusty, but the shear variety, friends, informative and passionate volunteers more than makes up for it.They have an amazing array of equipment. Great work guys.
A brilliant military museum in a small country town, helpful and friendly staff well worth a look
Excellent
Nice place for kids
A really good collection of vehicles and aircraft, and some very interesting displays. To top it all off, the staff member I dealt with was very friendly and helpful.
Good place to stop in on the way to kalgoorlie.
Very nice museum with lot of collections.
A wonderful extensive collection and the Volunteers are so friendly
Small but interesting staff were great
Fantastic collection.
Great military museum, with interesting collection of trucks, cars, artillery, tanks, helicopters, aircraft, and other items in a fairly limited amount of space. Wheelchair accessible. It is worth noting that many vehicles are stored in close proximity, so photography can be challenging. Welcoming and friendly staff. Well worth the entry fee.
So much to see in a place you didnt expect
Well done for the people putting in their time and effort to save the past memories.
Excellent, great memorabilia. All run by volunteers.
Need more museum like this one
A great experience. What a pleasant surprise this was. A fairly extensive collection ranging across the two World Wars and Vietnam, including tanks, big guns, helicopters, troop carriers, and wide range of uniforms, small arms and medals. Take the time to read the stories.
Pretty good for a small town
Very interesting. The gentleman at reception shared good & interesting information. It would attract more visitors if it was better maintained.
Great place to look at and get a real look into military life from years ago
Surprisingly big range of army artifacts. Old mate at the front desk knew ALOT about the local war time history and wasnt afraid the part with the knowledge (nice bloke). Heaps of WW2 history many people in WA wouldnt be aware of. Going to have to give it a 4 though as a machine gun was stolen a year ago... 🤔
An interesting collection of old military kit. Although interpretation information is a bit scarce or worn out, I was still glad I stopped for a gander.
Amazing place, well presented military history and great artifacts on display. Lots of military and air force vehicles and some aircraft.
Wasnt open at the time BUT wow, looks awesome! :)
Great museum. Very knowledgeable friendly staff
Amazing private own museum.
A very good collection and hands on
Absolutely awesome, very nice and experienced staff
Very interesting especially in relation to local history and with many pieces of machinery.
I found that the Merredin Military Museum was well worth the drive out from Perth and so did my 10 yo son. It was refreshing NOT to see ""Keep off" or "Dont touch" signs everywhere. How big was the smile on my sons face when he was ""allowed"" to hold a Thompson machine Gun??I am glad to see that they have secured the Iroquois helicopter and look forward to coming back again.PS make sure you take the 30 minute drive North to see the Nungarin Heritage Machinery Army Museum too. Unfortunately, for my son, the Halftrack and Scout car are not for sale.
A big surprise , this one . a very large display of military history and vehicles , surprised at the history of ww2 in Merredin , plus another museum next door, the Railway Museum.
