Was in here during my break at work last night and it was busy. However the girls in there are chatty as are some of the customers. Got chatting to a lady last night while waiting on my food which passed the time. Service with a smile so do visit. Im sure you wont be disappointed.

🐟 - It was time for Tea and seeing as its Friday and "Fish and Chips Day" there was only one thing......To hunt down the BEST Chippie in Glasgow 🙂.After comparing Two Leading Chippies with one having multiple branches in the city.....I settled on Merchant Chippie in the Merchant Quarter.This Chippie is Award Winning as being one of 50 of the Best UK Chip Shops! As well as a Winner of Scotlands Best Fish and Chips 🙂..... There was even a Motion in the Scottish Parliament Stating the above as well as being the Only one in Glasgow!I had to have a Traditional Cod Supper with Tea..... It was Absolutely Delicious 😋 One of the BEST Fish and Chips Ive ever Had! No Grease or Foul Cheap Taste just Everything Cooked the Traditional Crispy Batter Way with Homemade Chips . It reminded me of Yorkshire Fish and Chips..... It was absolutely divine and worthy of the awards 😋😋😋😋.Being in Scotland I just had to have a Friend Mars Bar for Dessert. Deep Frying a Mars Bar originated in Scotland in 1995 as a Dare..... It turned out so well it has become the Unofficial National Dish of Scotland! I just had to have it at the Best Chippie in Glasgow........ It was Sweet Gooey Divine 😋..... Why have I not had this before now! I must now have it if English Chippies offer it!Anyway judging by the amount of Custom and Delivery Riders Picking up Orders I made the right decision, and the Chippie Girls were so warming and hospitable.... You need to come to this place when in Glasgow 🙂..... Oh and the fish come daily from Astrather and Aberdeen and they sell Fresh Fish tooo if I havent sold you already! 🙂 - 🐟

I always go to Merchant Chippie for their fish and chips, which is absolutely fantastic every single time! Not to mention it is so conveniently placed close to Strathclyde campus and to a lot of the student accommodations around. On top of that, it is open until fairly late!

If you like your chippy fish then visit.. got the sea bass and breaded haddock..😋Good we place to go and watch the city go past you whilst eating a nice bit off fish..Shall be returning..

This was a small but cosy chippy I came across after dropping some friends off by the nearby station. Got the haddock supper which was really good. Also got a deep fried Mars Bar which was pretty nice. Definitely would come back again for the fish and chips!

I must say this is one of the best fish & chips shop here in GLA. They served it piping hot direct from the kitchen . The haddock were fresh & what I liked most is the fish batter ; it is light & crispy & not oily. Their homemade chips are delicious & nice to eat with the vinegar.Food 9/10Service 8/10Ambience 8/10Value for money 7/10 ( it is quiet a standard price around here ; 7-8 pounds per serving)It is a small shop so bear in mind to avoid busy hours in order to get a seat. Nearby the varsity & student accommodations . The shop should give some student discount .Overall will definitely eat there again.

Wow this place was so good. Came for just a fried mars bar and to try the fried pizza as a snack but ended up ordering even more as it was just so tasty. Definitely worth trying a fried mars bar and crispy pizza if you ever get the chance. Service was fast and great.

Ive never been disappointed with an order from here! Its my go to chippie so I use it fairly often! Definitely recommend

Fish and fries "chips" are decent. However not a fan of the extra charge for tartar sauce and ketchup. Also napkins please. Service was excellent though. Thank you.

Excellent fish! Had the haddock and it was near perfection! The chips were fresh and almost creamy inside, not quite as crispy on the outside as I prefer, but thats just personal preference. The only reason I couldnt give 5 stars was the gal at the register, she was unpleasant and unhelpful taking our order. However, for a counter serve fish & chips shop, its still worth your while for the food!

Exceptionally good haddock supper: crisp but not dry, hot, gorgeous fish, properly and evenly seasoned. Every mouthful was a delight. I finished the lot! Highly recommended.

This is the best fish and chips I have had for a long long time. The fish is fresh the oil is new the chips were hot and fresh. When I ate the fish.... mmm mmmm mmmmm. Crispy yummy an mouth watery. The staff are fantastic welcoming, friendly, she even came out and took a photograph of me. Thank you so much for your hospitality.

Really fresh fish, served with a crispy batter direct from the fryer - probably the best fish and chips I ever had in Britain. Tried a deep fried mars bar too and was surprised how good it it is.

bruh. im entering my karen era-- me and my friend ordered from here and paid £18.20 for .... 2 drinks, a piece of fish and 8 pieces of scampi... we obviously expected wed be getting chips if we were paying almost £20?? NOT A CHIP IN SIGHT??? I tried to call them to inquire about this (i wasnt rude i found it sort of funnybut got hung up on?????? i think they blocked our numbers too because we cannot get through to them??? merchant chippie why. you will never be famous. the scampi was cold also :(

Never had a bad fish supper from here. Fish freshly cooked to order unlike other Glasgow chippies.

Yum, outdoor tables, good price, all the deep-fried goodness. Including deepfied pizza and haggis.

Absolutely awful chip shop , went right down hill , been twice the last month first time fish was awful slimey dirty tasting, chips hard and undercooked...second one last night a sausage supper again chips rock solid undercooked greasy oily disgusting tasting ,sausages were then 20% pork nasty frozen ones , in plastic containers and no chippy sauce. One star for the lovely staff , but terrible inedible food

We were looking for traditional fish and chips and this place was apparently voted best in Glasgow. It was really good but didnt seem traditional probablybecauseit was an Italian deli serving Scottish food. The fish wasnt battered but was breaded. It eas light and not greasy and the chips were plentiful. The fish was Haddock and the slabs were very well sized portions. The menu was a tiny bit confusing. The place is small with only 4 or so small tables that are 2 seaters. There is more seating outside. All in all a good experience, just not great.

One of, if not the best, chippies in Glasgow. Always really busy but always high quality and definitely value for money (even if it is a little bit on the pricey sidebut as a once in a while treat, its excellent value. Offers dine in and take away and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Their reputation proceeds themselves as the best fish and chips in Great Britain.

Despite being a bit late, the food was great. Massive portions, and tasty enough to eat without sauce. Probably the better chippie in Glasgow

I heard it was definitely a place to go for fish and chips. It was a tiny shop with only about 5 table - cozy. The staff were very friendly and the fish and chips were fantastic. I was only in the area a couple days but made it a point to stop in a second time. Thanks for the great service and the wonderful food

Ive been in Glasgow for almost two weeks with work,Eaten far too many restaurant meals and takeaways.But I didnt regret these fish and chips for a second... Well worth the visit.

Discovered this chippie last time we were in Glasgow. Made a return visit and again not disappointed. Lovely piece of fish freshly cooked, and so were the chips. Tea very hot. Worth the walk along Ingram Street. Will definitely return

Very disappointed tonight. Very small thin haddock, thick batter ,more batter than fish. Worst I have had from here. Small amount of chips , which were barely warm. Not worth the money, things are going downhill here.

Really friendly people and really good food! We couldn’t take any pictures because we had devoured them before we could take any. Really generous portions, affordable and still crispy when they got home even though they were in a box!

I walked past this eatery on a Friday afternoon, a few customers were sat inside but no outdoor table/seating areas as the temperature wasnt warm to justify this.I went inside to see if I could order cod and chips, there was a food-delivery service person in-front of me, their bag was big and I went ahead as they collected their order.I stood by the drinks area/adjacent to the till. There must have been four members of staff behind the counter, but no acknowledgement at this point.A man walked past me sat down where I intended to sit as there was very few seating options inside. This man ordered previously, so I guess he has the priority?Anyway I was at till, said delivery person had collected and left, by this time a few customers had arrived.What I dont understand is that a customer [behind me in the queue] was greeting immediately and paid via cash; I looked directly at the woman behind the counter and she looked back and said nothing. Why?Now, was this a mistake? Was I ignored by accident?I genuinely dont know but what I will say is that I was the only person in this place of colour and when a queue formed others were deemed priority.I was in-line, waited my turn and I was completely ignored.I didnt say anything when the woman looked at me behind the counter as I wasnt interested at this point.Who knows, this could have been a mistake but I was ignored and possibly for reasons I cannot prove.Poor, generally speaking.

Best fried shop I’ve tried in UK so far. Their batter is amazing. Recommend fried calamari and pizza. They also have fried mars bar which is on my to try list when visiting Scotland

Fish is lovely, but portion sizes too small for the price. For £7.50, youd expect more than a few chips. Had nice fish suppers for half the price with sauce included.

After being messed around by a Deliveroo order which didnt arrive we went the few yards from our holiday accommodation for emergency fish & chips. Glad we stumbled across it because the haddock was really nice, perfectly cooked with lovely crisp golden batter and nice fat chips with just enough salt & vinegar. They deserve all the great comments and good reputation.

SHOCKED! I asked for a large cod and chips and my portion size was so small!! This cost me £11!! I am not happy at all this looks like a extra small portion hardly any cod was given to me! I went there today 11.10.21 at 9pm .do not recommend. Zero stars

Id never had a pizza crunch before but this is amazing. Fried in clean organic oil and cooked to perfection. It was so good I had a battered Mars bar for dessert. Also excellent! Service was friendly and polite, prices werent bad either. Would visit again

I havent had such tasty fish and chips for years! Ive been to different parts of UK, and tried different fish and chips shops. I think this place is the best that Ive been. In my personal experience, this is better than the magpie cafe in Whitby.

Nice choice of different fishes in batter, as salmon, seabrass or trout, which I ate. Was very good.

We had the sea bass and cod fish with chips.Pro: cheap, fish is pretty fresh. Friendly staff.Con: the oil used to fry the fish tasted stale. Sauce like ketchup and mayo were not complimentary.You’re better of at Oxford for the same quality and price. If you’re willing to pay more, Chippy Doon is the place to go for good fish and chips.

Wanted to try this place out when I came to Glasgow for the first time after few of my friends suggesting it. And till date, Ive been there 3 times and they dont disappoint. If you want one of the best fish and chips that you can get around the area without posing a hole in your pocket, this is the place to be. Even though I would recommend you to take away the order because you dont find my place to sit there, because there are only a few tables available. If you are in Glasgow City and you want to try the fish and chips, this should be in your list. The people working there are also friendly.

We love fish n chips and try to find the best at home in America. During our recent cruise in the British Isles, we thought thought we thought we would try to find some to outdo our favorites. On our stop on Glasgow, my husband did an online search for the best in town. After a lengthy walk, we located the mentioned Merchant Chippies. The shop is small, but clean. It was busy, but the line moved quickly. There are a few small tables inside, but a nice place outside to sit as well, and the weather was gorgeous. The cashier was very friendly and allowed us to carry extra chairs outside where it was cool so we could sit, since the other chairs were in use.The fish n chips were cooked to order, but were ready quickly. They were perfect...no complaints. They are absolutely the best I have ever eaten anywhere! The fish tasted fresh. It was flaky and tender with a perfect crispy coating. We ate ours with tarter sauce on the side, but it didnt even need it. The chips were perfectly salted and served with malt vinegar. This place makes me want to go back to Scotland for another visit! I miss it already.

Great fish and chips at a good price! We ordered the battered haddock which came with a huge portion of chips with the supper package. The mash pea was perfectly done with minimum handle which makes its taste so natural!Tips: minimum 10 £ for using credit card.

The fish and chips were amazing. The batter was crispy and held to the fish perfectly. The chips were fried to perfection and the malt vinegar and salt set them off. Among the very best Ive ever eaten. If you find yourself in Glasgow, you need to give them a try.

Great place to have fish and chips. The place was recommended to us by the hotel staff as the best place in glasgow to get fish and chips. Definitely worth the half mile walk. The cod in batter was the best but haddock was also decent. Unfortunately we didnt have the time to try other fish like sea bass or lemon sole.

Stunningly good and highly rated local chip shop. Had just enough time between visiting my favourite record shop and my flight home to squeeze in a much anticipated visit to this place. Delicious freshly cooked angel cut haddock with fantastic fresh chips. Even the slightly disappointing potato fritter doesn’t warrant knocking a star off the rating. Can’t wait to go back again.

Excellent freshly fried fish suppers. Fish portions are a little smaller than average, but fresh and very high quality. Chips are very good. Theres a few little tables by the windows that are an excellent place to sit and eat at no extra charge. Would highly recommend.

Holy smokes. This is seriously good stuff. Nice crisp batter on fresh fish. What else is there to ask for? Reasonable prices and friendly folks too!
