Merastri in Irakleion

Staff where wonderful and the food was stunning. The liver starter was amazing never had liver so good. All in all a great experience a must go if your in the area.

First Cretan dinner and first success! Excellent dishes, especially the lamb liver. Enormous portions (as usual we ordered too much but we ended up eating it all.Nice service and good prices.

Location was very particular and beuty. Dishes were prepared in a very accurated way and they were so tasty, especially saganaki and the dessert that needs 40 minutes to be cooked, it was a bomb of pleasure.Staff was very kind and friendly but very slow.

Although the place was very enchanted the time of serving was too slow. We waited over a hour only for the main dish. Great entrée that consisted of several kind of bread. Starters were good especially saganaki. The meat we ordered was very tasty and well cooked.Dessert that needs 40 minutes to be prepared was excellent!4 stars only for time of service.

I was looking for a restaurant in Heraklion for our dinner and I found Merastri. Everything was very tasty, friendly staff and I was pretty impressed by the variety of the desserts. I would definitely visit it again.

First Ill start with the politeness and professionalism of the staff - complete perfection!Food - Ive tried cooked lamb, wife had a homemade pasta and we had an orange salad. For dessert an orange cake and a local special, the first item in the dessert section of the menu, I forgot the name 😂 ..... Absolutely everything was superb and perfectly balanced with flavours! I can surely recommend everything we tried.Lastly - we found the place by the recommendation of a local who eats there occasionally. If you ask me, the current rating of the restaurant is too low for this good food and service! Nothing below 5 stars!

After arriving late into the city we rushed over to this restaurant after reading the positive reviews. The menu was a bit limited but had options we both liked. Service wise we couldnt complain. Although busy we were well attended to and always with a smile. The goats cheese salad was light and tasty and we appreciated how quickly it arrived. My support act devoured her rolled chicken like there was no tomorrow. She had claimed she wasnt hungry only moments earlier. The chicken and bacon pasta with broccoli was really good. The interior of this restaurant is impressive, the centrepiece being an open flame grill with a chimney inside the main room.

My absolute favourite restaurant in Crete so far!! The food is insanely good, service wonderful and the overall feel of the restaurant super welcoming. An absolute must when visiting Heraklion.

Original Cretan dishes that you wont find anywhere else. Try the stuffed zucchini flowers :-Well prepared and friendly personnel. The setting is also beautiful in a mansion used for musical outings.

Delicious food and what a great service! We were looking a traditional Crete restaurant and certainly Merastri was the best one! Its about 15 walking from the city center. The decoration is very beautiful and we were well welcomed. The house offered us bread and olives, even a small desert to share with traditional raki. Also, I highly suggest their wine selection , its great!

I was looking for traditional food where I could order several things inexpensively. They have a gorgeous atmosphere and I was definitely warned that I was ordering too much, very kindly! But it was all delicious, reasonable, and I had plenty to take home.The olive oil is also just crazy delicious and each server was very kind and attentive.

Excellent service, the staff are so friendly, and treated us so well! The food was to die for, left an extremely full belly!! And Excellent prices too.

We always visit when in Heraklion. Make your booking fast it’s usually filled up. What brings us back? The authentic, warm, friendly atmosphere that make you feel like home. The true hospitality and pleasant mood of all people that treat you. The home grown products they use to cook delicious food. (don’t miss the lamp chops!Also the rich wine list filled with Cretan fine varieties. Tip: Keep some space for the home made “galaktoboureko” and the delightful liqueurs that come with the bill. Enjoy your experience at Merastri.

It was the best food in Heraklion in Krete for me. the staff are also very nice. I choosed vegetarian dishes such as their special salad, all kinds of dolma and zuchini flowers. Felt home in Turkey. Efaristo.

Came on 2 successive nights in Heraklion. It is just so good! Friendly and authentic. Oven baked lamb is prepared every day from 8pm so come later for that.

The absolute Cretan cuisine! The restaurant placed nearby the center of Irakleion offers a true experience of the Cretan cuisine. The dishes are tasty created with local products and attention to detail without loosing its scope with fuzzy techniques. The restaurant has a minimal design yet great atmosphere! Highly recommended 👌👌👌

As to the rating I am eager to add at least 2 more stars to the available 5.A perfect blend of esthetics and local gourmet cuisine, seasoned with professional and friendly service.Truely the evening at MERASTRI made our day!There isnt a wrong choice in the menu - neither the proposed meals, nor the wines.If you have to visit one resto in Heraclion, do this one!

Everything here was great! The atmosphere and decorations are amazing and the place looks so beautiful and well put together. We were welcomed with an great appetizer on the house and our food (meatwas really tender and had great flavors. The wine that was recommended with the food was amazing too. We ordered dessert and got another dessert as well as Raki and another liquor on the house, again everything was so tasty and it was the perfect end to an amazing meal and experience. The waiters were really attentive and the service in general was great too. I can really recommend Merastri to anyone!!

Fantastic dinner for 5 and my favorite from a week of generally quite excellent food in Crete.My favorites: super tender melty young goat, and Galaktoboureko (sugary love apparently needing 40min of preparation so order it at the beginning)

The food is great, one of the highest of quality places in Heraklion. Definitely worth visiting to enjoy some Cretan cuisine. The staff is very friendly, fast and the service was excellent.

Excellent dining experience. Was recommended through Lonely Planet, but is truly a local specialty. Great food and a well trained, attentive wait staff created an excellent dinner. Highly recommend the slow cooked lamb and the local saganaki.

A lovely classy but laidback restaurant, the food is delicious and well prepared while the atmosphere is relaxed thanks to friendly staff. We tried a number of dishes, salad, apaki, wedding rice, sausage, saganaki, giant zucchini balls, stuffed vine leaves…everything was delicious and full of flavor. It’s common to get a free nibble before and/or after your meal in Greece, but Merastri went above and beyond with a platter of freshly baked breads, mint raki, and orange pie with ice cream. As a suggestion I think the zucchini balls would really benefit from some feta inside. I would definitely return and recommend Merastri.

Delicious food, cozy atmosphere and top notch service.

We were there by chance and we were delighted to taste traditional food in a very nice, well decorated place - most probably an old house treated with love! The staff was friendly and helpful and the food was excellent! Their cook improvised with a traditional karydopitta that lefta us speechless! A must visit. We will be there again definitely!

Excellent Cretean meal! We highly recommend this restaurant whilst in Heraklion. It’s a short walk from the city centre and totally worth passing other places/ going a bit further afield.We enjoyed the traditional Cretean ways of complimentary bread, dessert and raki & ouzo.For main we shared the orange salad and wild goat. We opted for greens with the goat rather than potato, due to the amount of bread that came as an appetiser. The waiter wasn’t keen on this - he said it wouldn’t taste good, and we liked his honesty and pride for his food. But safe to say the greens were delicious and everything worked really well for our taste.Overall, we highly recommend this restaurant, book ahead, and be ready to eat a lot (there were many things on the menus we were too full for!).

This is such a great neighbourhood restaurant with delicious food. Could not falter the staff, food and wine. A must visit especially because it is tucked away from the tourist hot spots. The food portions were generous and tasty, the raki was delicious and included a pomegranate infused raki. Best zucchini fritters

Very nice restaurant with quite good food for the prices. I cant say that it was top quality, but for the price its difficult to find something better. The service was really great, even though it was full. Beautiful building and decoration.

Just wow, everything was so delicious and tasteful. I have tried goat meat for the first time in my life and never tried it before cause I thought it would be smelly. But they made it so delicious, that I couldn’t stop to eat it. If you are in Crete, you have to go this restaurant and enjoy the traditional food

We had such an amazing time at Merastri!The food is superb, from farm to table and the service is great! Passionate people doing what they love most and very proud of it!They even produce their own wine and olive oil, which we bought.They bring you a platter of fruit, free dessert and 2 types of homemade raki for free after the dinner. They should definitely charge for this, it’s so worth it!!! We only paid 33 euros for a full on dinner, so affordable!!!We will definitely come back! Thanks for this amazing experience💜

Wonderful restaurant with pleasant atmosphere and lovely decor. The outside garden looks beautiful at night! The food is amazing, I especially recommend the veal steak, it was heavenly! Great place for dinner with friends or family, also great for a romantic dinner.

Our first time in Crete and first restaurant we visited based on amazing reviews! We shared a Doka starter which was lovely, we were given complimentary breads while we waited for it. For main I had pork in sweet wine and my boyfriend had the rosemary and thyme chicken. Both were delicious. We finished with a chocolate cake to share, which was decadent and enough for two people definitely! Glad we visited.

Amazing Cretan food paired with their house wine... The best wine we had in Crete ...The desserts are out of this world... Definitely try the yoghurt with the wild cherries !!

We walked in and were the only ones here, but we made early 7:30pm reservations. The staff greeted us warmly and I took pictures of the restaurant.The food was great (seriouslyas can be seen from the pictures! Because we ordered different dishes it gave us the opportunity to sample the different plates.Needless to say, each of us thoroughly enjoyed (even the teenagersthe wonderfully prepared dishes!I highly recommend coming to Merastri for dinner!Oh, don’t forget to order their local Cabernet!!!!
