Living history museum featuring an early-1900s Russian Mennonite village, gallery & restaurant.
Came for my first visit since elementary school to Fall on the Farm and it was lovely! I was pleasantly surprised at how much of the grounds were wheelchair accessible. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Gift shop was well stocked with Mennonite themed merch, cultural staples (like wooden knipstasch pieces!), and other treasures like toys, cookbooks, and genealogy information. Looking forward to coming back!
Lots to see here. Well laid out and friendly staff and volunteers. A good restaurant on site as well with many traditional Mennonite dishes on the menu.
Wonderful artifacts and friendly staff. Highly recommend!
Wow! This museum is outstanding. The staff were so friendly, the information was very easy to understand. I spent about 2.5 hours there and still had to cut my time short. I would recommend 4 hours there if you enjoy reading and looking at everything! I didn’t stop in the restaurant but the menu looks delicious. Definitely worthy of your time!
If you want to know more about this hard worker community..., this is the best place
Great place to go it was a fun experience we had the buffet the churches are really cool to see
Very interessting place. The Hustory of the Mennonite is told in an informative way and also presented with many exhibits.
Love it here! Amazing food! Great service!
I visited this place in August 26, it was Friday afternoon. There were not many people at that time, which allowed me to enjoy my tour at my own pace without any distractions.
Amazing place. I didn’t expect that the visit is going to be that good and insightful.
They have done a good job telling their story. The food is authentic and tasty!
I visited the Mennonite Heritage Village in August 2022 and it was such a great experience. It was so interesting and insightful to learn about my background and ancestors. The Leaving Canada exhibit was one of my favourite parts. As both sides of my family lived in Mexico and Paraguay, the information about the Mennonites’ journeys migrating to these areas was fascinating and very relevant to my life. There was also another indoor exhibit which detailed the Mennonites’ migration throughout Europe and Russia to Canada, and aspects of their lives including business, home life, agriculture, schooling, faith, etc.The village itself was setup like an actual town with a main street and various heritage buildings and houses along it. It felt like I stepped back in time! There was a general store (which sells old fashioned candies and products from local artisans), various houses of different styles (like the housebarn, Semlin sod house, log houses and others), churches, schools, the printery, blacksmith, and more. The windmill was really cool to explore and they actually sell flour in the general store that is ground from the windmill. I enjoyed seeing the artifacts and furniture in the buildings and getting a glimpse into the Mennonite lifestyle in the 1880s and early 1900s. There were plaques at each of the buildings explaining more about the place and it’s significance. In the main visitor centre, there is also a gift shop with some books and products from Mennonite culture. I throughly enjoyed my visit and would definitely return. Great learning experience!
A good place to learn about our history. Friendly people there ablecto help.
Such a wonderful trip back in time! Dont leave without visiting the restaurant for some traditional Mennonite cooking! 😍
Had a great time at Pioneer Days with the family! Lots to do, see, and eat!
Interested but they can more do for education
What a gem! How have we heard so little about this? Everything about this place was fantastic. The food, the volunteers, the pioneer buildings. Well definitely be returning.
Ive been coming here since I was a child. Its always enjoyable and interesting. A great place to visit for people of all ages.
Had a great time. Went with our kids and they loved it!
It is wonderful getting to see how things were done back when the town was first founded. And you learn some interesting things from the tour guides (especially when they dress the part, which they do.)
Thoroughly enjoyed our schools interpretive tour through this old fashioned Mennonite village. Very knowledge staff. Especially enjoyed the Mennonite school teacher!
I had a lovely time here, thoroughly enjoyed checking out the old architecture
I have been to this place a few times and always enjoyed it. Learning about culture and heritage of the Mennonite in Manitoba and wandering around the village reminded me of the diversity of this great country.
Its always a joy to visit. The buildings are fun to explore and the Livery Barn is a wonderful place to eat.
A must visit place in Steinbach. Unfourtunatley the buildings were closed, but even outside there is a lot to see.
It’s a great experience for the whole family! Definitely worth it to visit!
So many things to do and see! Very friendly, a lot of activities for the whole family and beautiful nature around. My kids loved the petting zoo and the windmill!
Great place to spend a full day. Didnt have a chance to check out their restaurant. Will try it out next time. Thank you for the great time we had.
Such a beautiful place 😍
A great place to visit. Will need 4-5 hours to see properly. Entrance fee applicable.
I had planned to visit many times and today was the day I finally went! They did an amazing job of recreating a Mennonite village, and I was so impressed with the entire site. I cant wait for my next visit and to show others. They have recreated the barns, homes, tinsmith shop, school, and church, and all are actual historical structures donated to the museum. They have the iconic windmill and even an actual section of the Berlin Wall that was shipped to Canada. They also have a small garage full of vintage autos. There was a small farm with some animals. Just an absolutely fabulous afternoon!!
Second visit there. This time it was almost empty because of the covid, so we managed to really enjoy walking around and seeing everything with nobody around. The only con was that games were closed and other rides as well because of the lack of people
Great way to back into the past and see how our country was settled.Great restaurant. A must if you go here!
We had a beautiful tour of the Mennonite heritage village, great and friendly staff
understanding Mennonite tradition is interest & the train is awsome for kids. If you want to know what Mennonite is, this place will give you an answer!!!
Wonderful piece of Mennonite history. Great food and service at the Cafe. Love the gift shop.
Had a nice time visiting the Mennonite Heritage Village, although we found the exhibits to be somewhat dusty... I am not sure why the place could not be upkept to a higher standard considering they did not have that many visitors. It would also have been nice if they had guides posted in various locations in the village to interpret the exhibits. We also found the restaurant to be a little pricey considering the portions were somewhat on a small side. The souvenir store could have used more local hand-made crafts as most souvenirs were quite conventional and really not Mennonite heritage related.. Overall, worth the day trip from Winnipeg.
I loved it! I think it was so nice that it would be a great place for a wedding. The pictures would be beautiful!. So much to see!
Very interesting attraction to see. Learned alot about early life of the Russian mennonites settlers of the area. Lots to see from tractors to early building types. Also the windmill was a good focal point to the whole villege
Its a step back in time. Visitors here will appreciate the efforts of our ancestors, who put in great efforts for what we have today. Fun staff. Great place to volunteer a bit of your time.
Lot to learn ,see taking you back to the pass great food made with pure home make ingredients
A beautifully immersive environment, with lots to see and talk about. The buildings are full of antique furnishings and tools and whatnot that really lend an authentic air, and you really are pretty free to move about and explore with very few restrictions (Ive found most heritage sites to be very limited in that way). Fascinating for all ages. Expect to spend at least half a day.
Its always fun to go to the museum on July 1st. Lots to see, fun people to talk to, great atmosphere.I just wish they gave more food for the price youre paying.
Great day trip on Canada Day! Free entry, lots to do!
Pretty good for a day trip. You may spend 2-3 hours here. Adults may learn some history of the Mennonite community. Little ones will find some domestic animals and antique tractors, they can climb on. Quite good experience overall.
I love that they are able to preserve things that are vital for history
One of my good friends came out to visit from our home town (Nanaimo, B.C)She wanted to visit the museum and I had never been (Ive lived here for 4 yearsso we made a day of it.Most of the attractions are out doors, so visit on a nice day (which we did)We leared a lot and it was very interesting and fun to walk through the buildings. The gift shop has a lot of nice homemade items to choose from. The resaurant was closed when we went so we didnt get to try the food.I loved interacting with the animals. Lots of babies and the animals were happy to let us pet them. The workers we encountered were very nice and friendly.Thank you for the lovely experience 😊
December is not the best time of the year to visit this place as the village, reminiscent of the different activity houses youd visit during Festival du Voyageur, was not operating. Nonetheless, I genuinely enjoyed myself and I am really glad we took the time to explore this part of Manitoba and its history. I dont think you could truly understand Manitoba if you dont know about its Mennonites. It took me a couple of hours to take in the exhibits of the new museum space, the fancy clock exhibit (have never seen rope mechanisms before), and check out the beautiful wooden beams of the old (it looks like an arc!). You can now rent the space for events and there was a party happening there the evening I visited.
The Mennonite Heritage village museum is a wonderful place to go and learn about the history of the Mennonite people, or to quite simply go and reflect on its rich history. I learnt a few new things and saw some interesting artifacts. Very recommended to go and visit.
It is an excellent location for fun photography (took wedding pictures here in 2002), interesting history, and during the summer there are a lot of interesting activities and demonstrations. The food at the Livery Barn restaurant is very good, and very reasonably priced, especially the buffet. You can get free entry to the village if youre just there for the restaurant.I also attend a monthly liturgical choral service called Vespers (usually held between October and May), a choir with many of the top choral singers from the local area and a variety of choral directors.
