Mendeleev Bar - Bar in Troitsk, Russia
Mendeleev Bar in Troitsk
Description
Went there during my short trip to Moscow as it came up in multiple ratings and had outstanding reviews. I really wanted to like it but way too many things are wrong.First of all, I really like the concept of speakeasy bars and Mendeleev bar definitely had a promising start - an entrance hidden behind a noodle shop. And then, pretty much everything went wrong. We sat at the bar. There was no cocktail menu available (despite the fact that it was offered to some of the guests). At first I thought it might be just their concept. A lot of bars I’ve visited didn’t have a cocktail list. I ordered Aviation, a classic cocktail that is one of my favorites. The bartender seemed to be puzzled and I swear had to google it. He came back after some time and said that they can’t make it as they don’t have some I ingredients.Ok, I asked him to make something of his own choice, gin-based. He mixed a pretty good floral cocktail with egg whites. It was pretty good. When it was time to order a second round, I decided to go for 20th Century. Another classic cocktail. I swear it took them more than 10 minutes, but at the end they came back and told us that they again don’t have required ingredients. For the second round we went for whiskey sour and Negroni. They were ok, nothing special.Third round, I asked for Corpse Reviver. You probably guessed already - they didn’t have ingredient. At that point we decided to leave. If you don’t stock up the bar with the basic liquor, provide a simple list of what you can actually make. Unless of course you expect people to drink whiskey and coke.
MoreMy favorite place with best people and sometimes orchestral Concerts!
Very nice, waiters are polite, the choice of food and alcohol is impressive. Cozy and comfortable. Games and quizzes are often held. Prices are a bit high, but it’s a common thing for places like this in the center of Moscow. I would recommend it. But if you want to relax like a man, I recommend this place called “Vanilla”.
MoreA hidden gem in downtown Moscow. The entrance to this atmospheric bar is hidden in the ramen shop, you go through a security face control, descend to the underground and enjoy delicious cocktails and psychedelic tunes. It’s got a character and you’d want to return.
MoreBad attitude of the door people. If you dont want tourist people that expend money in you bar, you are doing perfect. I been in a lot of the best bars in the world and never happens this to me. But is not the first time that happens to me in Moscow. If you just want Russian money, tell the people dont visit your city.
MoreGreat vibe, great cocktails, friendly staff. Location is hidden under a restaurant. I love places like this
MoreThe location and the building itself was perfect..apart from that, the bar was a surprise ...hidden down an indifferent... grocery shop, you were suddenly found in an amazing place, with perfect cocktails, great atmosphere and decoration. We had a perfect night in Moscow!
MoreLoved the cocktails and how bartenders work. Very interesting idea to hide a place the way they did!
MoreCool bar. Cool cocktails. If you are lucky you might get some good music
Great cocktails, great atmosphere.Entrance is hidden at back of Chinese food place, so hard to find - ask the locals
MoreNice atmosphere, the cocktails were great, specially that you can ask the bartender what you like (what kind of alcohol, sweet/bitter/sour/etc.and they will make you something great!
MoreUsed to be very popular , still has quote lots of people. The concept of a hidden bar is nice
MoreRude so-called "Face control". My friend was refused entrance to this bar, based on some unknown criteria. Really, it is just a bar, small underground compartment with nothing special to it, so please, chill and stop this facecontrol nonesense already. If you got no space to fit people in, then just hang a parking-like table indicating outstanding free spaces. Till then, it is a no-go place.
MoreGreat bar, we had a good time there and cocktails chemistry was indeed top notch!
MoreCrazy looking speak easy on the back of a Chinese restaurant. Some days it has jazz, and in others electronic music. Expensive drinks.
MoreEpic. Experience the allure of the mysterious traditions here. The craft, the smoke, and most of all, the owl 🦉
MoreBest Cocktails in Moscow
If u like crazy bars. Then its a most visit. Loved it. Musik, drinks and atmosphere. Perfect
MoreMendeleev Bar is speak easy type of bar with the author’s cocktail menu! You have to pass strict face control and then to try the fascinating drinks there. Secret entrance is located in a tiny noodle shop “Lucky Noodles”. Nice interior, friendly and professional bartenders. On the weekdays they have live piano evenings and live jazz concerts, on the weekends — dj music. Highly recommended!
MorePlease someone tell the organisers the 90s is over. A seedy basement bar but way too pretentious. Also, cramped, stifling and overpriced.
MoreThe pay per table concept is a bit unnecessary. However the bartenders are very talented and make the experience of chemical experimentation worthwhile. Overall cool place.
MoreThis place is trying to pull off a chilled hipster speakeasy common in US and European country except for its trying to filter using Face Control policy which Europe has gone away from. The bouncer looked me up and down like a horse at an auction and simply said that " they refuse entrace". Me and my boyfriend laughed and walked out. Boy, I ve been to nice places all over Europe, Asia and US. You dont want my $$$? I will leave it somewhere else 🤣.
MoreArrived here on a Saturday night with 2 friends (one local Russianin an attempt to have a few cocktails before heading out to other clubs. A small line was forming at the entrance, only a few minutes wait. Upon seeking entry the bouncers had looked us at then turned to a hipster looking bloke with a scraggy beard (probably a managerwho simply shook his head. We were turned away with no reason. Interesting door policy, we were completely sober and dressed nicely in shirts and chinos. I honestly cant figure out what they didnt like about us but can only recommend to spend your money elsewhere like we did
MoreVery rude attitude. Unbelievable. I already agreed to a 10,000 RUB min spent per person for 6 of us (already ridiculous but I was willing to pay). However I had enough when I was handed over the credit card machine for full payment even before I look at the menu or offer a glass of water. No choice but I had to walk.
MoreCool speakeasy bar underneath a Chinese noodle shop. Fun cocktail menu, food atmosphere.
MoreOne of the best pre night bar in Moscow. The bar is downstairs in a fashioned old dark ambient. You have some of the best cocktails in Moscow, with a great team of people. There is the music, kind of techno electric one, and a in front of the bar desk there some tables where you can sit. The people are very nice because of the little selection at the entrance. I love this place, always go there on Friday night, the best moment to go there.
MoreThis was by far the most surprising place we visited. You will have many stories to tell after your visit! Stunning and tasty cocktails and upbeat music. Great crowd like the rest of the city! If youre in Moscow, YOU GOTTA GO HERE!
MoreFor the world cup, this place has become a tasteless, over crowded and tacky place. Loud club music instead of quite atmosphere, it is no longer a speakeasy, but instead it is a night club.
MoreI was sitting at the outside area of the bar - during World Cup, not sure if it’s always there - having drink after drink and enjoyed it very much. The bartender was very attentive and his mixing skills are superb. However when I needed to use the restrooms after five cocktails the bouncers would not let me inside. I explained I only needed to go the restroom and go back to the outside area but there was no chance. Even the bartender tried to help me but the bouncer wouldn’t agree.Eventually I went to a place across the street - “Tamerlan” - where the bouncers would not be as stubborn. Needless to say I didn’t spend any more money in the Mendeleev Bar.In my home country there are laws which oblige bar owners to offer restrooms to their guests. I guess Russia lacks way behind in that sense. Hopefully they will one day acquire a service mentality.
MoreAmazing music & cocktails. Great crowd esp for live performances. Always one of the best spots in Moscow.
MoreThe place where you will enjoy with the long list of cocktails, I mean all kind of cocktails...
MoreI Loved this place! The fact that the entrance is in a Chinese fast food place Made it even cooler! Great Cocktails and good prices!! I will definetly be Back on my next Stop in Moskau!
MoreGood cocktail, both classical ones and their own mixes. Was disappointed that there was no option to pay with the card. Had to search for ATM outside. Service was good, ambience is curious, but not particularly cosy.
MoreBeautiful place, I liked the atmosphere and service, fully recommend this place!
Very good cocktails served on a russian speakeasy style bar.
Ive gone here many times over the years and never one had a bad experience. The music is great and the service is prompt. Im not sure why two Jack and Cokes cost 1700 rubles. A draft beer was much more affordable at 400 rubles.
MoreOne of my favorite bar in Moscow. Excellent cocktails and music. You will spend an amazing time there!
MoreWe attended a jazz night which was by very good performers and they played American Jazz 🎺 which was really nice. The bartenders are experts and the cocktails 🍹 are Artistic.
MoreCool bar and great cocktails! It isnt easy to identify the location from the outside
MoreAfter many times i went it, and enjoyed the place a lot, they decided to not let me in stating no reason. So unfortante for the bouncers of this place to be so destastesfull
MoreUnfriendly security guard and 5000 RUB/person to sit at a table (includes food and drinks). So we left the place within a minute
MoreA long-time favourite place in the Moscow bar scene, a wildly popular speakeasy bar working without a street sign. Owners decided to go even further with secrecy concept and opened a bar within a bar, located behind the dance floor area
MoreFavorite bar in Moscow. Very cool atmosphere and great drinks. Also fun since its a speak easy.
MoreAmazing place in Moscow!! Good atmosphere (and weird).
Loveddd the place!! Ita super cool, drinks amd bartenders, decor and people!
one of the best speak easys and cocktail bars in town with a very fair price/value ratio and bar managers that know their job and mixology well. attention: on weekends the place turns into a club. hint: try the tokyo cooler from the absinthe bistro menu.
MoreAttended their jazz night. Music and atmosphere was great. However its a pretty upscale and expensive place.
MoreA very interesting and cool place with live music and good cocktails. It is an hidden bar, you step into a noodle small restaurant but downstairs theres this cool bar.
MoreI do like cocktails, food and atmosphere there but lately one incident spoiled my positive opinion.Friend of mine celebrated her B-Day so she made a reservation and prepaid a deposit as it is only onion to get a table here. Some guests came earlier some were late. And suddenly the security did not let one of the guest in!I mean she was cute! She was not ultimately irresistible but honestly it is not super glam club! Her presence was prepaid not to mention the fact that it was social event. So the evening was completely ruined. We decided to leave despite we spent only a half of hour and around 30% of deposit. The manager proposed to take away the overpriced alcohol in bottles...Extremely disappointing.I thought we were closer to civilized Europe than that disrespectful behavior.
MoreVery nice bar! Insider hint! The bar prepares drinks in an awesome way with a lot of show behind it.In order to get there you have to pass trough the kitchen of a Chinese take away place called "lucky noodles".
