Stylish setting with banquette seats, for traditional Indian cuisine and tandoori specialities.
Went for a meal Friday night with family no problems at all we all went again on Saturday total different this time we were ignored for about 30 min to the point we were going to walk out weve decided not to go back again such a shame
We booked for a large group (22 people from our charityand everyone had a wonderful time. Communication beforehand was great and they were extremely accommodating to all our needs (including creating lots of vegan options). On the night we were treated to delicious fresh food and fantastic service. 100% recommend Memsaab for a large group (and Im sure the food is just as delicious if its a small group!).
A really lovely treat of Indian food and fresh ingredients in a hospitable atmosphere. We were a big group of people from a charity and had an amazing evening.Highly recommended !
Update from NOVEMBER 2023. New management have now displaced replacement chef and appointed talented newcomer, who is not wedded to inexorable chilli, and appreciates the subtle potential of traditional spicing. In association with the vision of the excellent manager (an intelligent and diligently local man into organic vegetables that he cultivated himselfis steering it back to its best. How it used to be? Read on.....“Great place! Incredibly delicious Indian food, carefully prepared and cooked to suit your taste. Beautifully presented in a stylish environment (an old Victorian pub that has had a thoughtful makeover). The staff are great guys who really want you to enjoy the experience of the meal. We have gone with different friends and family, and all come away amazed at the quality and very fair pricing. We had lunch there last Sunday and it was an under £20 bill for two of us eating eight fantastic dishes! This is a restaurant in Islington to find and celebrate!”(Though prices might have necessarily climbed a little, we are delighted to report that this could be a contemporary review!)
If you like the favour of overpoweringly sweet desiccated coconut, their Chicken tikka masala is for you. This is not how a masala is made, well not if you want it to taste good. If you appreciate the more subtle flavours of Indian cooking, without the need for colouring, then avoid. Its a shame as four years ago this place was good.
Really nice curry. Mixed grill was great and a friendly service
13/10/22VERY poor quality yesterday. My chicken curry was sitting in a tub of oil instead of curry sauce, it was just awful and cannot believe it was sent out like that. I’ve woken up today with an upset stomach, and was very over priced only 1 meat dish in my order but still warrants £53 !!! Will not be going back again that’s for sure.
Everything was delicious.
Great service for takeaway and the khatta meetha lamb had great flavor and the perfect level of heat.
Lovely evening meal! Very friendly and quick service. Its very much worth a visit!
The food was really great though the ambiance could good with some updating. The wait staff were excellent. The naga curry and xacuti were particularly scrumptious and definitely recommend it for people who can handle the spice
A most excellent curry house. Madras here is 10/10. Very recommended.
The Naga was killer and the dinner was very reasonable. Only downside was the lack of other diners - only one other table.
Covid prompted a home take away. We ordered all vegetarian and all we can say is yummm. Thank you. Highly recommended- tasty, not greasy and fresh.
Extremely disappointed with the entire experience, my cocktail Pina Colada tasted like curdled milk, we had gin and tonic and the tonic was served in cans, not sure about the class of this place... considering the restaurant was empty, our food was served cold which had more salad then actual food...we were promised "the best chill chicken" and the best food came to be the chips." I think this restaurant needs a major makeover and new management...the morale of staff was very low.
Food has always been nice, but it was very quiet and waited 1hr and 20 mins just for my main.Plus they dont take good care of customers!
Food was good, defiantly worth a try, service was nice, abit too much, decor needs work, pricing not bad, i give a well deserved 4 stars.
Hmm, not sure about this place. Ordered the ‘vindaloo’ and asked several times to confirm that it was indeed ‘hot’ levels of spice - they assured me it was. Barely registered on my tongue; more like a korma. I’ve had spicier McDonalds.
Great food and staff. Located in a quiet neighbourhood which is awesome if you like to escape the upper street mayhem. The only drawback is the vibe. I think this restaurant has great potential if a bit of focus is given to the interior design. Otherwise, I highly recommend!
Such kind staff and delicious meals, not at all expensive. We only eat vegetarian food but there is so much choice and we really enjoy getting side dishes such as Detox Dalma, Aubergine Bhaji and vegetable Samosas. Would really recommend!
Loved the food! We ordered: bhaji (okra & aubergine), karai paneer, lamb saag, paratha stuffed, garlic naan and a chicken chef’s special. All were great! We paid another visited the next day for take away. Also had the (freepapadums.
I get takeaway from here nearly every week and it’s great. They often include a free poppadom, and you need to try the Pathia.
Great local restaurant and definitely above your average Indian. We mainly have takeaway. Food is not at all greasy or oily, and not over seasoned. Fresh flavours and spices and good ingredients, all veg and meat are good quality. Tastes like good home cooked food. Good value too.
Lovely place, great food and atmosphere with excellent service and options, all at a very reasonable price. Would heavily recommend to anyone looking for an Indian meal out.
I ordered food from here on Uber Eats last night. I had the following:King prawn puri (but chapati instead of puri)Naga lambChicken tikka biryaniNaanWith a note that everything should be extra spicy.Firstly, the restaurant kindly gave me complimentary popadoms and sauce. I was so grateful for that. Lovely suprise. The food was so nice, and they followed all of requests exactly.Out of all the dishes, I have to say, the lamb naga was outstanding. One of the best currys Ive had in a long time.Thank you guys. Ill definitely be ordering from you again.
We had few side dishes and biryani, all very generous portions, all different and good taste! It is our favourite Indian restaurant now.
Great takeaway. Got it on Uber Eats after passing it a few times. Arrived exactly on time, warm and well packaged. The Tikka Masala was the best the mrs has tried in Islington. I had the Madras which was perfectly balanced, not too spicy with a focus on flavour and with a good amount of tender chicken. The mixed starter was good with the Seekh being very tasty.Poppadoms and chutney and garlic naan also great. This will be our new regular. Give it a go!
We had a take away yesterday - excellent service, great food. The delivery driver was also super friendly and came with a smile - its the little things that make all the differenceHighly recommend for quality go-to local India :)
Very wide menu with all the regular and familiar favourites. Although the specials and chef favourites offer something different and worth a try. Food is freshly cooked and full of flavour. The staff are accommodating to requests and the chef will cook to your required spice levels. The brinjal barji (aubergine sideis amazing. The food takes slightly longer than most Indian restaurants to cook. But it is well worth the wait, as the food is cooked to order. Staff are friendly and welcoming very spacious surroundings.
Very good Indian food in a friendly place. Hope to be here again soon.Follow the chefs advice. He knows.
Went with my family on 28th December 2019. We ordered the king prawn biryani, lamb biryani, tandoori lamb and chicken, garlic and butter naan, sag and paneer, and butter chicken. Every dish was excellent, the service was friendly and the price was great too. Definitely recommend it!
Fantastic restaurant. Choice and quality of food was excellent. Attentive and polite staff helped make for a lovely evening. Well worth a visit.
Best bet is to stick to traditional dishes as some of the exotic dishes are a bit pretentious (the one I had was). Food overall was tasty, though a little salty for my taste, however, the lamb tikka was tough as old boots. Nice ambience and staff ok.
Loved It ! First time at this restaurant. Very friendly staff, warm ambience and perfectly located. A good range of dishes. We cant wait to go again.
A lovely neighborhood Indian restaurant which is extremely popular with locals. They serve authentic Bangladeshi cuisine like most Indian restaurants in the UK.The chutneys were high quality and service was friendly. Inexpensive for the quality you get. Recommend any of the tandoori grill items.
This is a fantastic restaurant, with great service, and brilliant food. It is reasonably priced, and the Sunday buffet is extremely good value for money. Its fairly hidden away, but well worth the trouble to find it, as you will not be disappointed by either the food or the service - terrific!
We ordered chaat masala, Meg mix, vindaloo chicken and Bombay aloo, which all taste great! Vindaloo is my favourite and if you love spicy curry this is a must try! Meg mix tastes tender but still has a thick flavour. The starter chaat masala chicken is not so spicy as suggested on the menu, but is tasty and really appetising. Bombay aloo is again not spicy but quite fully spiced. Mango lassis is not so sweet (which is good!and thick. Popadoms is a must in every Indian restaurant hahaha! staff are very friendly. Would definitely come back! 😁😁😁
Ordered this through Deliveroo. We ordered saag aloo, chicken tikka masala, lamb balti, samosas and rice. The order came with no samosas and the chicken tikka masala couldn’t have possibly been tikka masala. It’s tasted purely of sugar and none of the food had any spice to it.
There were eleven of us, so a plethora of dishes. I had Salmon korma, delicious and creamy, tried some Kattamita chicken in a sweet, spicy tamarind sauce and lamb achari in a hot and sour sauce, we shared vegetable bargis, pilau rice and nan bread. Everyone was happy with their dishes
Very unpleasant experience this evening for what was supposed to be a celebratory dinner. Starters arrived one hour after ordering followed by another 15 minutes wait for the mains. Some of the mains did not arrive as it was not communicated with the kitchen so we again waited a little longer. Food was average, what was supposed to be a tikka biriyani came flavourless with prawns and chicken instead. Waiters were polite and friendly however their communication amongst their team was poor. Not the thriving food outlet it once was!! 👎🏼
Family ran hidden Jam in a quiet neighborhood near Islington in London. Great service. Authentic Bangladeshi food. The tadka daal was really really delicious. Every bit maintained the flavors of Bangle.
We stopped going to Nemsaab in the past as the food went downhill under the old management plus we thought the staff wasnt very professional. They also started having tacky theme nights too. So when we finally gave it a try under the new management we were pleasantly surprised. We go regularly nowWe want last night and the food was wonderful with fabulous attentive staff.
Not a good place for Sunday buffet. They will not give you an option for food selection. They have changed the concept of buffet and dont get disappointed assuming they are serving usual buffet. The management must think about their buffet service otherwise they will not attract returning customer. Hospitality was good though.
Best curry!! Second time we’ve had their curry. First time the Naan was a little cold, this time after I mentioned that at ordering we got 2x Naans that were HOT and delicious! Thanks guys. Definitely our favourite go to curry take out.
Absolutely amazing fresh food. Best Indian that I have had in London and I have tried a staggering amount. Brilliant service fantastic place. Will definitely be my new regular!
If you are ordering from UberEats, I would not recommend.Chicken Manchurian was nothing close to what its supposed to be. They just mixed some curry sauce with chicken. The fish was alright though. Samosa was not authentic and was of the iceland variety. :/ Overall for the price it was disappointing.
Very good food at a very reasonable price, especially given how expensive restaurants tend to be in this area. The place is rarely crowded, Ive always immediately got a seat without reservation. The service is extremely good, the staff polite and friendly. Monday - Wednesday they have an offer where you can get a five course meal for £15.
The quality of the food is always a high standard. Have been there a few times. The presentation of the dish is vibrant with different aromatic flavours. If you like chicken biriyani that is the one place to go if you are in search of flavoursome yet spicy.
Me and my family eat in and order from this Indian regularly, tonight we received our food after one and a half hours. The food had no flavour was under cooked! Had to stop eating it because it made us feel ill, would not order or return again.
Im not too sure about all the great reviews here although I can imagine their in restaurant experience is much better than their takeaway service, which was to say the least, dire. We ordered about £90 worth of food so was quite varied. None of the dishes were terrible but definitely not memorable. The main reasons why this experience was spoiled was that we waited over an hour for the food, arriving near enough cold and with 4 items missing from the order. This totally unacceptable for a restaurant that is less then 5 minutes drive from you. They did apologise and give 2 bottles of beer on the house ( there are plenty of people who dont drink alcohol - put a bit more thought into it next time). This maybe just one order thats gone wrong and that happens but this was our first time eating at Memsaab and unfortunately that means I wont be returning. First impressions are everything.
