Had a great staying experience here.Nice resort near the panama canal. Food was great too.
Tried to visit and it was closed. The security guard was hostile towards us when we asked if we could at least see the property. Nonetheless it was interesting to see all the old crumbling American buildings
I had an issue regarding the exhaust of this hotel and it has been reported to the reception. The kitchen exhaust looks not working properly and the smell from the kitchen is spread over to my room and it was very difficult to sleep and take rest due to this smell.. the hotel team should take this seriously.. else everything was more or less fine
Beautiful hotel and surroundings and delicious food at restaurant. Cant say enough about beauty and hospitality.
very dirty and smell bad the room no one can help you as there is no manager.. nice location..but i would stay again you can see that the hotel is on the brink of collapse..no AC in main dinning room buffet dinner very expensive for the local Panama client and any other food option limitedstaff unable to help in the most simple requests
Terrible hotel. poorly maintained room. And the food service and quality of food was poor. I would like to say I dont think it was the staffs fault or lack of care or trying. No one spoke anything but Spanish, which at a hotel like this you should have service staff speaking more than just the local language. But more so you can tell that the staff hadnt been trained at all and the management was taking advantage of them and us the guest... Over the 13 nights I was there the food and service got better but still was terrible. Food selection and quality was extremely poor for the price. And the Buffett selection for dinner was really bad. I do have to say the breakfast was really good but otherwise the hotel was not nice. The rooms smelled very musty and wet and the hot water and pressure wasnt even useable. The staff tried but again k think the upper mamagement put us all at odd... Needless to say I wouldnt recommend staying here or for that matter skip colon. The jungles are cool but other access points
- The hotel is not maintained properly; there is black standing water in the basement, the hallways smell like sewage, our group had many water leak issues (our shower would flood the bathroom, someones tub leaked into the bar below....)- There is mold everywhere. The air quality inside is very poor.- The staff continued to go into our room and move things around even after telling them multiple times & always having the do no disturb sign & light on our door.- Restaurant staff cannot speak English. Very frustrating trying to place an order. Food would sometimes take 10 minutes to come out, other times an hour - no consistency. Would be told we could not get certain menu items - management even rude about it.- Coolest part was that the resort is near the water, so you can stay outside most of the day (and out of the horrible smell in the hoteland watch monkeys, birds and other wildlife.- We stayed because we had to.
Paid for a romantic get away and ruined completely, the hotel didnt have water for the weekend so i could use the restroom and the shower, paid for a suite with jacuzzi that i couldnt use, too many use of plastic at the table, apart that is not fancy they are not comprimised with the enviroment, non apology from the hotel from the water issue.. imagine that no one could shower at the hotel but they were using the pool the next day to shower... i dont think this was very healthy, the hotel has a lot of potential but a LOT to improve
Historic hotel with a lot of nature. It has a lot of humidity but it is beautiful to visit.
A must visit place all that vintage theme and old sculptures... quiet a good place ...offers good food and speed wifi....
Hotel has a good water front can try fishing boating. Food was ok.
First of all, Id like to say the rooms are very nice. What makes me say its ok, is the breakfast buffet. Most of the "hot" food was actually cold...pancakes, meats, potatoes, vegetables, etc. etc. The fruit was fresh and tasty and the omelette was made on the spot and delicious.
Old, not kept up. No washcloths.hard to flush toilets. Great pool
Nice view of the lake. Beautiful interior. Service was a little slow in the bar and restaurant.
The place is a bit run down. The glass covering the furniture is chipped and I cut myself on it. The toilet runs constantly, and the shower curtain is full of mildew. Can’t even get a cup of coffee in the lobby in the morning without paying $2.25.
Very nice ! I staid only one day but was pleasant.
The natural beauty of the lake and jungle areas birds seen and howler? Monkeys heardA family group of Amerindian Embure tribe resident in the grounds add valueMy first sight of indigenous people in South AmericaToucans seen and a very pretty trail
It was ok. It has a nice pool and the service was really good. The atmosphere was just ok. Is it a nice place to hangout with the family and friends? Yes. The food could use a boost in taste and quality.
Fine for the special price we received, breakfast was excellent and the personnel was kind. Rooms were small, with small TV screen, not the right outlets in the bathroom. I had to ask for extra towels, iron and ironing board. There were not ice machines any where. It is a hot, tropical and humid weather in Colon, I couldnt believe they didnt have ice for guests. I had to take my cup to breakfast each morning to ask for it.
Beautiful location, luxurious rooms, fine cuisine, pool, walkabout to see wildlife and flowers. Would love to return!
Great Lake view from this resort near Colon, Panama . Also serving great breakfast, but the WiFi is a bit slow.
Beautiful hotel. Classic Spanish colonial architecture. Good staff. Reasonable rates. Only issue is that it is not close to anything. And do not go to Colon.
This is relaxed elegance. Wonderful architecture, big rooms, big bathroom. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Views are beautiful. Incredible pool. 20 minute ride from Colon City but that is a good thing. This is definitely a good hotel.
Overall its okay , the pool area is nice and the food is okay. The rooms are pretty but the outlets dont work and the blower couldnt even be plugged in because the outlets were too small ...
Excelent hotel staff amazing the breakfast delicious the room the bathroom were clear. The pools clean. The hotel is very easy to relax from the hustle and bustle of the city. I recommend the hotel they will not regret.
Very good national breakfast. Nice facilities. Room service must be improved.
Gatan Lake is only for the serious wildlife adventurous, not the casual person -- because we found it incredibly boring. We were here as part of a cruise tour from Colón. We were only in the actual hotel for a moment, but it seemed very nice, elegant, clean, and beautiful. But also empty, and not much to do nearby based on our understanding.
Nice ambience... Building is slightly old and its easily recognizable. Food is very nice. Rooms are very spacious with good view.
Nice and calmed place to relax and spend a good time. Facilities are very good
Decent breakfast, great pool, rooms are good, service is okay. Almost 4 stars.
Very nice resort. Nice and friendly staff. Good food.
Beautiful old well kept Palace resort very roomy private and romantic
Personnel is great!! But the place looks and feels abandoned. House keeping and towel service is terrible. Restaurant is overpriced.
Good attention nice place in Colon only that food is a little pricy but big portion and good
Stayed as RCI exchange in 2 room, 2 bath apartment. Nice facility with full kitchen. Had monkeys outside of our room on 2 evenings. Restaurant food was good, staff bent over backwards to meet our every need. Jacinto Yard is taxi driver assigned by hotel to offer tours. He did excellent job driving , great English, friendly, accomodating, and knowledgeable. Karen Wood was our contact point. Great english, friendly, far exceeded our expectations. Only issue was cloudy pool water made pool uninviting. Very remote location. Cab from Tocumen arranged by Melia was $85 one way for 2 people. No where to go on foot. All excursions off property (Atm, groceries, liquor, shopping, etcall require taxi except Chepes just the street that offers wings, burgers and steaks. All tours and transportation arranged by hotel staff are cash only. No ATM on property, but on the way to and from tour sites.
What a bad hotel! Really old and outdated... furniture is terrible. There was a bug in our bed! Several hairs... we changed three rooms and found it in all rooms.... also bad how they handle complaints. Had such good experiences with Melia but this one ruined it.
Good food. Some issues in the room but are not too important.
Nice but old fashioned hotel that lacks the proper maintenance. The pool area is very nice and the buffet is good but somewhat expensive. The hotels location is far from the Colon free zone with free transportation but few trips.
Good and nice place. The pool was great! You can enjoy your stay.
Thoroughly entertaining and educational. What a spectacular experience visiting the Panama Canal and seeing the operation of the locks.
Nice hotel... Good breakfast... Only problem we found that restaurant closes at 10 pm and nothing is available after that.
Great, quiet hotel with lots of history. The food is really good and the staff very friendly. Perfect to relax
Good service, nice room, but too big it feels a little lonely.
Very nice place, with good location on the seashore of Panama Canal. Good rooms, prices are not high. Service and food in range as well. The best in this hotel is swimming poll. Also want to mention that hotel is located among the jungle so you can here the birds, its adding good impression. Can recommend to everybody
Building is historic. Great view of the lake in Panama canal, serene environment.
Place is great in location, views, amenities. But is a very big place hard to maintain I guess and sometimes it shows. Ive come several times with family and friends, we use it also as a base to visit surrounding places like Portobello, the Canal, eat at the Marina hotel in Shelter Bay and go to little beaches in the San Lorenzo reserve.
They serve a great buffet for lunch, the best food in area. Setting very tropical.
I decided to go for an overnight stay at this hotel since I got an online offer and it was just before the kids had to go back to school. I had been there before but for a wedding so had not really had a chance to enjoy the place. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by Mr. Michael whom dispite the set back of our rooms not being ready and us having to wait for over an hour to do our actual check in, was so sweet and welcoming that I just couldt think of getting angry. Anyway we finally got our rooms and a courtesy late check out for the following day, due to the delay so that was nice, the kids loved it... "Thanks Mr. Michael." The rooms were ok but even after the long wait once we settled in we noticed their were no towels in the bathroom so we called for some and decided to go enjoy what was left of the day. Atfter having gone to the pool and taking an outdoor tour of the area we returned to our rooms to find that even after approx. 4 hrs. of having requested bathroom towels, we still had NONE! I started to get upset. It was a long time for them to have been able to bring them up and watching my kids shivering in their wet pool clothes needing to get a bath and dry up and not having the towels there, just made it worse. I called for Mr. Michael but he was not there so spoke to some other girl who did have the towels sent up right away. I want to make a long story short because the rest of our stay mostly involved time at the pool and the retaurant during meal time hours. I could say everything would have been fine, even with the minor set backs but the attitude of the waitresses at the restaurant KILLED OUR WHOLE EXPERIENCE. Starting with the hoastess at the cash register to the lady serving water, all had faces like they hated being there and like they were doing us a "favor" rather than doing their job. We HATED IT! I must point out though, that the first evening we had dinner, there was a young man there, didnt get his name, who attended us WONDERFULLY. He is the ONLY waiter in that whole place who should be working there. Panama has a lot to learn where customer care is concerned and I think the hotel and tourism industries should pay more attention to these matters. The customer is who you are there for. We are the makers of breakers of the industry and if you cannot satisy basic needs, such as a smile or a good disposition when performing your job then theres no place for you in this industry. One particular waitress was so rude during the lunch buffet that my 10 year old daughter actually asked me what was wrong with "that lady". How I wish I had her name but she made the experience so aweful I just wanted to get my kids and myself out of there to avoid seeing her face. Besides for Mr. Michael, at the front desk and the waiter I mentioned before, I would just as soon forget this whole place. It just WASNT WORTH IT! and then, to top it all off, we left our bingo game in the room and so I call to tell them we are sending someone to pick it up...hahahahahahahaha OF COURSE THEY SAY THEY DONT HAVE IT!!! Typical! Even if I got invited back for FREE, I wouldnt go! Sorry but BIG changes have to take place in this hotel if you want to keep your guests happy. People PAY to go to a hotel to work or enjoy and relax, either way, we are looking for AT LEAST, a pleaseant stay for our moneys worth...TEACH YOUR STAFF THAT!
This hotel feels like a haunted mansion, its old and its falling apart. The employees have a terrible attitude, they dont even bring the check to the table. And dont even dare to ask for ketchup, they have the courage to admit they dont have it.Stay away from this place.
Perhaps best described as dictator chic, this hotel gives the impression of having once seen much grander days. However it remains clean and comfortable. Food options are limited: aside from the hotel restaurant (buffet style; not much to write home aboutthere isnt much else nearby. If you venture towards Gatun Locks (and you should), try the decent little restaurant in the nearby Shelter Bay Marina Hotel.
