An extensive menu of Chinese noodles, soups, & dumplings in a relaxed, white tablecloth setting.
Came in Nov at 8pm for dine-in (4 pax, managed to get table in this quaint little restaurant. Lots of choices. Menu in English. The food was done fast, are delicious and portioned well. Ordered lamb (japanese stylecurry, seaweed egg soup, duck (flavoufuludon and stir fried long bean in sharing portion for 4 (GBP68).
Had a big takeaway last night to send daughter off to uni. First time customer and we all thought the food was excellent - will definitely order from MeiWei next time.
Order from the Szechuan & Shanghai menu and you are guaranteed a treat! We eat here at least once a month. Our favourites are spicy water-boiled beef ( ๆฐด็ ฎ็่with some steamed rice, cumin lamb, or sea-spiced aubergine with minced pork. ๐ถ๏ธ๐On a day where we want less chili, we like the pork trotters, shredded potato, and soft egg tofu. ,๐ฅ๐๐ฅStaff always make us feel welcome. My only complaint is that my fortune cookie dreams dont always come true ๐ ๐ค
Nothing authentic about this place. Food is clearly just reheated and served almost instantly. No subtlety at all. Feels like all the dishes have come out of a packet. One of the poorest meals I have had in a very long time. Not cheap either. Avoid.
One of the best Chinese i have had in london. Food was affordable and very tasty with decent sized portions. Went with my family (around 9 peopleeven though it was last minute and we walked in without booking.
Various menu and very kindly staff.
Had dinner tonight with my husband. We live locally and thought we would try it out. It was quiet and peaceful and we really love the environment. The food was delicious and price was not too pricey. My second best place for chinese food. ( both of us love chinese food and tried too many restaurants). I would definitely come back and I am definately going to take my sisters with me next time. Thank you team for your great service and delicious food.
Been several times. Some good, some not so good. By and large the more authentic the dish, like you might get it in Asia, the better. The more local, sweet and sour chicken balls for instance, the worse.
Nice service, kind and fresh food all the time ๐๐
Very over priced nothing special had better microwave meal wont be visiting again way too expensive
Unbelievably good food, beautiful interior decoration to match. Well be returning for more, for sure!
Lovely delicious food. I didnt find what I wanted on the menu they were really accommodating.I had xiao long bao dumplings aswell, they were lacking in flavour compared to other places but I would definitely go back, also huge menu to choose from.
The food is great and the service is even better! Extremely friendly and welcoming. Although small, the restaurant is clean and nicely presented offering good portion sizes. The atmosphere is very relaxing here and I will definitely be returning.
Great food, a really fun evening out for the family
This is my favorite restaurant in west London! Ever since the first time I came, theyve been very friendly and the food is tasty. Also, super underrated bubble tea, probably better than any tea shops close by - generally just very very happy coming here, feels like a local spot in a big place where usually I wouldnt see the same face twice.
Amazing food and lovely service
We eat in and have takeaways regularly from Meiwei and have loved everything. The portions are generous, the service so friendly. A gem in the hood!
Best Chinese I have had in a long time. Chicken chow mien, Kung po chicken and crispy beef, delicious. Pictures donโt do the food justice, really glad I gave them a go and will definitely order again from here.
The food here is OK but I think you would have a hard time finding bigger rip off prices in Disneyland during school holidays. Im not exaggerating when I say some of the food here is literally two times the price as other competing restaurants and the portion sizes are nothing to write home about. If money is no object for you, the "real" Chinese food menu is much better than the "English Chinese" menu so I recommend that.
Food was a bit salty. Nice decor and the dim sums and lo mai gai were very tasty.
5 star food ๐ and amazing vegetarian options! Salt and pepper tofu was delicious - as was everything else. The staff are so lovely and friendly too.The only negative is that the toilets probably need a refurb
This is my 4th time ordering with Meiwei and Im impressed once again! I informed the restaurant that I was ordering for my birthday and they so kindly added some complimentary items as well as saying happy birthday at the door :D This is my favourite Chinese in Putney and I highly recommend to everyone!
Delicious Chinese food. Great combination of quality and traditional. I usually enjoy the beef with ginger and spring onion and the Kung po prawn. Service is always very particular and friendly.
Place was so highly rated so wed thought wed try somewhere new but the food wasnt amazing and the bill of ยฃ80 for veggie dumplings, appetiser and one main dish each for two people....that is insane...
I am very surprised that this restaurant serves food, they seem to spend their time practicing golf from the roof. Watch out for flying golf balls down Burstock Road - one ball has just smashed through my living room window. No apology. No offer of any payment. Rude Staff.
Review for Hey Sugar which is in Meiwei: this place makes the best bubble tea in Putney! Owner is friendly and chatty. Husband and I always look forward to weekends when we decide to have a sugary treat... we walk to hey sugar! Love the classic milk tea with tapioca bubbles.
Lovely, tasty food. Really nice staff and you can not fault them. Used them today again and happy that I have found a good, decent takeaway..
Had takeaways from here twice now and im afraid to say it was very disappointing. The first time was average but after reading some great reviews on here we thought we would give it another chance. The half duck was very dry, chicken curry very watery and not very pleasant same as chicken with cashews and egg fried rice was just weird, like it had been cooked several times. Pricy for such a bad batch of food ordered, dining in might be a whole different experience but at the prices I wont be paying them to find out.
We ordered some takeaway but the tofu skin with beef is way too dry and hard to chew. Other pork dishes are good, but probably too many sweeteners to please me. My friend has to drink lots of water after our meal.
Great food, big portion sizes and amazing taste. Also, the staff was extremely friendly. I suggest coming on an empty stomach!
Ordered on deliveroo and the Hot and Sour Soup (VHAS MEAT IN IT! The customer service said its my fault for not mentioning in dietry requirements when ordering... The clearly misuse the Vegetarian symbol. Truly appalling. No compensation at all
Been twice now, the first time was decent. This time round we ordered the pork belly but it came out extremely burnt and dry. So we asked for another, the next one came out just as dry but not burnt. We had 3 pieces of the second batch and then ordered the bill but they wouldnt remove the pork belly from the menu as apparently cause we ordered the second it wasnt allowed. If you order food and its dry and burnt how can you be expected to pay for it. That is a bit of a joke actually cause of that I will not be returning to this place nor recommend this place.
Very authentic Chinese food~also have karaoke.
The place is quite quiet at afternoon . Had business lunch here is a good choice . The food is surprise good ! there is a theory that if you see a kid doing his homework at restaurant. This place is definite got decent/ Origin Chinese food.
I took my family to this restaurant for dinner tonight. But the floor staff (looks like ownerasked only our table to pay by cash.I asked to take off the service charge from the bill but he said he cant even though I had to go out and draw the cash to pay.And I dont think the card machine was broken because I didnt see him to ask other tables to pay by cash.We ordered a crispy pork belly but it was too dry and chewy it was just deep fried and very small portion. Our family didnt enjoy the dinner and I dont think well go back to this restaurant again.
No honest customer care, nor preparation of food .Stale dry ribs low quality chow mein with again stale dry ingredients. This time far to disgusted to complain. So I have written this months later.Needless to say I binned the lot.
Its never a good sign when the restaurant you are eating in has mouse traps on the floor...The food was bad - Ordered the Lemon Chicken and it took just 5 minutes for it to come out of the kitchen. The chicken was very dry and the lemon sauce tasted absolutely terrible. On a positive note the service was great and the waiter was very friendly.
After having seen the strong reviews, we chose to give this restaurant a visit as it was in our area. We had a really warm welcome by the owner (?into the entirely empty restaurant (apart from one screaming child and his mother near the kitchen - family to the owner??). Having looked at the menus and some of the prices of these dishes, we really expected the food to be out of the ordinary. It was anything but. We ordered the Siu Mai and pork-filled buns as starters: we had to ask for soy sauce which was definitely odd... They were tasty and only took 10-ish minutes to arrive. The main course showed up about half an hour after the starters, which wasnt really great since we were starving. That being said, the food was also tasty, but nothing that we cant get at our local takeaway place for half the price. Bill came up to ยฃ60 for two starters, main meals and beers. Stomach upsets followed this meal. Youve been warned. Wed recommend this place if you want a really quiet evening out, the portions are quite big and the food is like any other nice Chinese restaurant, so if you have the money to spend then go ahead. If youre tight for cash and looking for a "casual" environment which is "good for kids", this is not the place to go.
Ordered take away. Chow Mein tasted so burnt it was inedible. Sweet and sour chicken balls tasted like the oil was weeks old. Pretty disgusting inedible meal. And expensive. 2nd disappointing meal from them.
After reading all the great reviews I decided to drive here which is a little out of my way. I must say I was quite disappointed the food was exceptionally bland. A couple of the dishes were just ok, the others not so good. Maybe it was just one of those days but I wont be going back.
Ive tried so many of the dishes here and almost everything is good quality and nice. So much variety to choose from. They do a pretty good lemon chicken if you like that kind of thing (its one dish I usually dont like much because of the poor quality but here its good. Fantastic Sichuan menu etc... one thing that could be improved a bit is the chow mein.
Very good, very tasty, very fresh and to top it all great value. Vegetable spring rolls are delicious and the chicken with Kung Po chilli sauce. Ask for the lunch special for the lunchtime takeaway.
Fabulous food. Brilliant service. Unforgettable experience. If you wanna try Chinese food, you have to try Meiwei London.
Authentic chinese food and the prices were great! I visited for the first time back in March and noticed that they had the special chinese menu that I recognized from when I lived in China, with more dishes in it (the one that is leather-bound)! Such a pleasant surprise to finally find that in London! Its a shame that they dont offer those dishes with their online/phone takeaway service, as I do not always have the time to go to the restaurant directly.I would strongly recommend you try some of the dishes in that menu when you visit. But if youre not that adventurous, their "usual Chinese takeaway dishes" are also very tasty.I hope your restaurant sticks around offering authentic Chinese food for many years!
Best Chinese food in London. If you can check out the "Chinese menu", there are special discs giving you the real Chinese food taste like. Do not miss this place, once you are in Putney and want to eat something great.
Good was just OK. I was the only person in the place. Very basic service. Only took my order and delivered my food. Manager busy on his ipad and server never checked after food was dropped. They had the nerve to try and add gratuity. I asked her to take it off as there really was no service. She actually didnt take it all off so I had to give her a math lesson. Wont be back and wouldnt recommend. There is better close by for less with good service.
my favourite chinese restaurant ๏ผ nice food and good service
I have to say this is one of the best Chinese restaurants I have been too. I Often eat here and have never been disappointed with the choice of food. The staff are all very friendly and are clearly committed to serve great meals.
Very disappointing. Went in for a quick bite, fried rice is better in a store bought package than at this restaurant - no egg, no additional veggies or these little tasty shrimp. Plain and tasteless. Waitress was a tad bit tactless as she asked if we werent having any alcholic drinks. Never heard that asked before. The accoustics in the restaurant is terrible - you can hear every single word three tables away. Overall - food is nothing special and will not be returning.
Ive been there few times now, quality and authentic Chinese food. They offer Shanghai and Sichuan cuisines, that the former is rare to find in London. The owners are very passionate(!and friendly, all the wines they recommended were great. Definitely the place to go if you want to try something different from Chinatown.
