Meanwood Valley Urban Farm in Bradford

Our first visit to Meanwood Valley Farm, Pleasant and polite reception, supporting the local school with growing fresh veg/fruit ( AmazingDifficult to walk around with a buggy or ill health which meant we only found chicken and goats ( alpaca’s x3 as you arrivethe weather was a bonus so the small price we paid was a bonus… sadly we won’t visit again

I can understand the low reviews and can understand why people would be disappointed. Meanwood would definitely be better advertised as a nature/botanical walk rather than an animal farm in my opinion. The gardens and woodland were spectacular but there’s only a small variety of animals and most are in their own pastures that can only be viewed from afar. It’s well worth a visit if you enjoy peaceful nature walks but perhaps other farms might be more suitable for those visiting with children/those who are expecting something on the level of Hesketh/Goodall farm. I don’t think it deserves the low reviews as it’s still a gorgeous place to visit.Pros: cheap entry fee. lots of parking. friendly staff. wonderful gardens. well maintained environment. children’s playground.Cons: not an overwhelming amount of animals.

thought it was poor! very few animals , the poor chickens were featherless and didnt see any water! teashop was OK, the children chair was very dirty ! same but will not go again .

I was really looking forward to a visit with my children yesterday. I just wish I had read the reviews beforehand. What a disappointment! Theres hardly any animals to see. Theres piglets and alpacas on the way up to the admissions hut, but once I had paid the fee, the only other additional animals we saw were a few goat and sheep. A couple of guinea-pigs and rabbits are kept near the cafe too. The childrens playground was shut, due to a wasp nest. I will not be returning.

Lovely farm in a city well worth a visit and some nice walks along Meanwood valley

There’s just little kinds of animal and it not allowed to touch any animal or feed them. Also they put double partitions so we can’t go closer.

Was a really nice walk. Nature took it course as the wasp took over the entrance to park but there was enough signs and it was closed for the safety

Great little cafe with lots of vegan options.

Tucked away treasure. Its small but the staff are really friendly and its a great stroll with little people.

At first I felt "where are all the animals" but once we found the chickens and goats who living behind the main building and the small animals area there is plenty to see, you just need to do some exploring.Could do with more small animals, some sort of petting zoo or possibly just move some of the animals into the open barn as some people missed the cows and sheep as there were in the field at the far end.All that being said it is a lovely and quite place, nice cafe and only £2.50 so whats not to like!

I am absolutely baffled by the negative reviews. I visited the farm with a friend on 22 May 2022 and we loved every minute. The entrance fee is astonishingly low. The place is beautifully maintained and you can clearly tell how much love and care has been put into every aspect of the farm. The animals look healthy, well looked after and have plenty of room to roam and graze. The farm abounds with trees and flowers. There are magnificent views and many delightful walking routes under the trees and through the fields. There are lovely places to sit or have a picnic. The restaurant offers delicious, healthy meals with produce grown on the farm. The restaurant staff were so lovely and friendly. They brightened up my day with their kindness and helpfulness. There is also a picturesque stream running through the farm, as well as a cycling route. The farm is an absolute gem and a beautiful oasis in Leeds. I would like to thank all the wonderful people who make it what it is. I would happily go back there every weekend.

STAFF MEMBER RESPONSE TO NEGATIVE REVIEWS. Hello everyone. Thank you all for taking the time to review your visits to our Farm. We very much appreciate your feedback. I am sorry to hear a SMALL number of visitors have not enjoyed their visit. It would appear that most of the poor reviews are in relation to the lack of animals we have here at our Farm. I can only assume you didnt find all of our animals on the day but I can assure everyone wishing to visit.....there are plenty of animals to see all year round. In response to visitors who have commented on empty fields, well this is typical of a working farm. The process is known as pasture management. By having empty fields this allows the grass to grow back so that when livestock rotation occurs there is plenty of grass for the animals to eat again. At the time of writing this message the animals we currently have are three alpacas, six goats, two cows, three rabbits, two guinea pigs and plenty of hens and sheep (early April time every year we also have lots of lambs). We will also be getting three pigs come early June 2022. Please feel free to ring us on the day or in advance to see what animals are available to see before you travel. Sometimes due to animal viruses, such as avian flu, we have to close our animals away from the public for the welfare of the animals. Our animals mean so much to us so this is a precautionary measure so we can care for them the best we can. Meanwood Valley Urban Farm is a charity and we aim to keep our admission prices low (ADULT £2.50 / CHILD 50p / UNDER 2s GO FREEso that the farm can be accessed by everyone. We hope you will join us sometime to see our lovely animals and beautiful gardens and woodland areas. Perfect place to take young children on a beautiful sunny day. Friendly staff, nice animals, play ground and loads of pick nick areas. Lovely sensory walk as well.

You guys cant be serious about your opening times 10-15 is ridiculous. I cant imagine you receive many visitors with this opening time, not to mention who would buy a ticket for walk in a garden. Many other botanical gardens across the UK are free to visit and has much better experience to offer. There are very few animals too see and those are free to watch which makes it even more questionable why would anyone pay for the ticket. Been here years ago and it was good to walk here after working hours with the family but the management managed to destroy this experience to everyone, job well done. Absolute disappointment.

Erm its ok theres very little in animals alot empty fields expected horses etc but there was fish, birds and hamsters but the walk was nice and cafe honestly Id go again to have a picnic

Nice place to take the kids. Interesting for them and animals to see. Look for the archimedes screw. Well run and safe. Not too expensive. Get some fresh air.

Large place but barely any animals, lots of empty pens. We were in and out within 20 mins, quite disappointing.

Visited today with our little girl and wish I’d read the reviews first. It was just really disappointing - there are barely any animals to look at - it’s mostly empty fields and a few people planting. The whole place just felt run down and I wouldn’t bother going again.

Sorry but I wouldn’t ever waste my time to go there again. Don’t take it personally please ( people who own the placebut the place is just saaaad. Is not even about the £2.5 , i wouldn’t go again if it was free. It looks more like a sad allotment place, with 2-3 animals thrown around n difficult to find ( some of them). I’d rather go to the park, better looked after. This looks like it’s just someone’s untidy big garden which they thought “ lets make some money off of it” . The coffe shop however has some niceee cakes lol . No hard feelings 😀

Unfortunately there weren’t much farm animals to see despite having to pay admission fee; only saw some alpacas, donkeys, goats, Guinea pig and rabbits. Would have love to spend more time but there wasn’t much to see or do.This place needs better maintenance. Cafe did serve some good sourdough toasties though

Visited for an meeting as an external hirer, so the farm activities werent happening.Looks like a place that has lot to do and engage a younger audience.I would need to visit again to gain a fuller understanding.

I have visited the farm on 29th of October 2021 with my 4year old who was very eager to see all the animals.After arriving there were few sheep and alpacas , we then purchased the tickets, learned that there is no longer an option to feed the animals.We then went for a wonder and to my surprise there were barely any animals. Chickens and 5goats ant thats it!Map was showing there should be many sheep , cows, rabbits, Guinea pigs, chicks, but there were none! This was very disappointing for my little boy who ended up in tears. Its not very much a farm without any animals, this should be changed to a Meanewood valley gardens.

Lovely staff, great breakfast.Not much for little children to see (small animals just 2 guinea pigsbut we enjoyed the walk round to see the sheep, goats & hens. Great to have an open space in a built up area

Sadly wasnt a great trip, there isnt much there and lots of empty barns with no animals. Looks very run down and I cant believe they ask for a fee to enter. We saw 2 guinea pigs and some sheep and alpacas, over all was just a sad sight to see such a poorly run farm.I wouldnt recommend as a trip out with the khildren. Alot of peoples faces looked disappointed and even over heard people complaining of how there were nothing there.

Whilst the 2 fields by the car park have sheep and Alpaca however once you go in and pay most fields are empty; theres a lonely goat, a few chickens, 3 guinea pigs and a poorly rabbit. The place looks generally run down and theres no point paying for entry to see a sad reminder of what the place used to have but no longer do. They have more old bikes in the small animal pens then they have animals! For a small farm trip its better to go to goodalls farm on Tong road where entry is free if you just buy an ice cream. Meanwood Valley Urban Farm is not what it used to be and its really not worth visiting as it is currently.

Lovely way to spend half a day with my six year old. Not many animals unfortunately (eg the small animals enclosure is two guinea-pigs and a rabbitbut the food is excellent (and the coffee more so), lovely nature walks and very affordable entrance (£3 for us both).

Had a nice afternoon with my daughter. Is a couple of animals to see and look at. But pretty basic. Prices are reasonable for an entry fee. There is a cafe but never went in has I brought a picnic

Small but lovely urban farm. Cant complain about the size due to the location, its what makes it unique! The staff were all lovely to talk with. They love the animals here and it shows.The coffee shop is incredible, I didnt try the food this time but grabbed a coffee to go and it was a great cup of coffee. The barista was very friendly too and happy to have a conversation.Overall a lovely visit!

What a lovely farm! Spent the day. Weather was lovely and the flowers and wildlife was so relaxing. The girls made friends and didnt want to leave. Perfect for young kids and family relaxing.

Went today first time. A mixed review.Positives- cheap entry fee. Peaceful, lots of greenery, excellent place for walks.Negatives- hardly any wildlife. Only animals available to see were sheeps/lamb, llamas, hamsters and a rabbit. No clear signs/maps to help you get around.To summarise, this place is great for a peaceful walk and explore nature but if your specifically coming to see a variety of wildlife then this is not the place.

Really nice experience:such a fresh air, pretty quiet and the food & drinks were super tasty.Food wise we had: ham & cheddar sourdough toast // loaded wedges, which were a bit oily but I was so hungry that I didnt care much 😅

We had a lovely few hours this morning.Alpacas, sheep, chickens and goats can be seen.The negative is the one way system is not very clear.Lovely shop, playground and cafe.

Lovely little farm, perfect for young children to wander around and see some animals.

Visited with family and found it a pleasant experience and felt safe with covid measures. We had a walk round the animals and had drinks and food at the cafe sitting outside all reasonably priced and well worth the cost. A lovely little space in the middle of an urban area.

I loved it here, i would go here everyday if it was a sanctuary and didn’t use the animals as livestock. Lovely staff and great meaning behind it! Would volunteer here if it was a Sanctuary once again. Cafe was nice. Not much option x

A lovely local undertaking with a walk thats easy for kids. You can spot cute farm animals, including some friendly alpacas. Theres even a café with food options for grown ups and kiddies! Theyve made it so the walks are one way so you always feel safe while enjoying a peaceful day out. There are sanitiser stations everywhere as well. The fact that its so close to the city is a huge plus! Entrance is only £2 for adults and 50p for kids.

Lovely little day out for children and adults alike! Feed the sheep, goats, cows and alpacas then see the big pig, rabbits, Guinea pigs, chickens and birds.

This is a beautiful farm to go with all the family I went here on a family fun day as I was hired to do face painting, glitter tattoos and Festival glitter for the Easter event that they had this year. They always have loads of different events going on but apart from that the staff are really friendly the farm area is really nice and clean!I would definitely recommend going there for a nice day out with the children

Great for toddlers: can feed the animals, good cafe with reasonable kid-friendly food.

Was a flying visit second time I have been here and didnt arrive till 3 knowing it shut 1 hour later we had a fun time weather helped but overall its limited and would probably struggle to stay for an afternoon without getting bored

Lovely place to take the kids. Nice cafe with good reasonably priced food. Play area for kids is on a par with nearby parks. Its surprisingly large and you can wander around for a good couple of hours. Its a registered charity too so by visiting and paying the cheap entrance fee you can feel like your contributing to a worthy cause, or splash our and for £20 you get an annual family membership. Excellent value.

Great place to spend a lazy hour or two. They have a few animals, a nice cafe and a good place to see Robins, Bluetits etc.

An Amazing little farm with an entrance price of £2.Lots of cute little animals to see however very hard to navigate, at the entrance the attractions are signposted but not thought-out to keep you on the right route.Also saw the farm growing lots of vegetables would be nice if they had a small shop to sell any surplus in. (This may have been in the epicenter but it was closed so I didnt see it)Some trail guides to hire would have been nice eg a tree identification sheet or plants to take round with you. However, very enjoyable morning activity!

I actually loved this farm. So many cute sheep you get to pet and feed. Very enjoyable for kids and adults too

Very clean farm with a cheap entrance fee and with 50 pence one can get huge bag of food to feed the goats and the sheep. Car parking is free but can get filled very quickly. There is not much to see but it is a very nice place to see chicken and few other small animals. Nice place for a walk and to take the kids and dogs.

Best £5 Ive spent for a farm! We all enjoyed it. Upon parking the kids are entertained straight away with large pigs then on the walk to reception there are donkeys and alpaca. £2 entry fee for adults and 50p children. 50p for bags of food in which we bought ☺️ Around the farm there is sheep which more than happily eat from your hands, goats, 2 cows, chickens. Lots of allotments which look lovely. Lots of nature walks, flowers, pathways with lots to look at. A small play area park which was enjoyed by my 10yr old and 4 yr old! Then there is a small barn with small pigs, birds, rabbits. I would recommend this farm to anyone! We particularly liked that the animals were in massive fields with plenty of room and that every area we were alone and it wasnt busy at all

Not many animals, but a lovely day out. Good for a nice walk too. Little play area was nice & secluded. Gorgeous greenery.

I was really surprised how cute this place is. The highlight for me were the sheep children on the back side of the main house. Really good place to go with anyone interested in animals or gardening.
