No. 42號, Taiyuan Rd, Datong District, Taipei City, Taiwan 103, Taipei
In an elegant building dating from 1948, this sleek hostel in the city center is 5 minutes' walk from the Taipei Main Station subway stop. It's 3 km from the ornate Lungshan Temple.Streamlined mixed-gender and female-only dorms provide free Wi-Fi, bunk beds and lockers; bathrooms are shared. Private rooms offer flat-screen TVs and minifridges; family rooms sleep up to 4 guests. Upgraded rooms have en suite facilities.Amenities include a cafe, a communal kitchen, and a minimalist lounge featuring exposed brickwork. There's a balcony. Breakfast is available. Children age 4 and older are welcome.
Modern and clean. The only con is that the room is so small. I’d be ok if you’re a typical traveler but I stayed at this hotel during the quarantine period, which I need to stay in the room 24/7.
I truly enjoyed my stay in Meander 1948 during my 8-days of quarantine period. To begin with, the hotel staff were very friendly and responsive; they went the extra mile to help accommodate my dietary needs, providing delicious and nutritious meals everyday. Also, I loved the hotel design: beautiful wood floor, high ceiling, raw iron and metal work on the fences over balconies, and so on. The room was clean and well lit, plus comfortable bed sheets and pillows, good water pressure (for shower), etc. All and all, it made a pleasant experience. I will come back to stay here next time.
Due to a change in plans of the company I was invited to work for, I requested a cancellation of my reservation less than a day after the deadline had expired (almost a full week before my arrival)The hotel refused to make any kind of compromise and charged me the full amount for my stay. I understand technically they are within their rights but Ive never had a hotel not at least make some small gesture before.I would not recommend anyone to make a reservation here.
Stayed here for quarantine. The room was comfortable and the staff were very helpful, including helping to deliver packages to my room and trying to provide a variety of meals.
Staff are friendly and welcoming. Room is cleaning and comfortable. It’s a good place to overnight and take a rest In Taipei. If I got a chance I would like to come back again
Just finished my 10 days "vacation" (quarantineand I have to say I never been looked after better than with this hotel. The food was various and not boring and I have to say a special huge thanks for the reception and Bea who looked after me till the very end. All positive and highly recommend! Thank you Bea!
If you are visiting Taipei for the first time, Meander 1948 has everything you need to have a good start for your time here. It is a short walk from Taipei main station and is well located in terms of navigating yourself around the city. The staff are gracious, in every manner and will go out of their way to make you feel welcome. There are numerous staff members that speak English (Bea, Lynn, Jim to name a fewand Im sure they would help you with any queries even if you cannot read Chinese.I chose this for my 15 day quarantine hotel and spent a bit more money to have a room with a balcony which I definitely do not regret, it was spacious, modern and bright.Thank you again Meander Staff for the great stay, I look forward to coming back for my next trip to Taipei, especially when it possible to spend time in the public areas.
I stayed here for quarantine and it was an amazing experience. The staff was actively responsive, they made sure my needs were met, it was very convenient to ask them about anything. I’d 10/10 recommend.
I love the staff, they were so nice and attentive, it was great. They took our garbage out every night so it was really convenient. The food wasn’t up to my expectations but I did feel that they try their best to not repeat meals. We paid NTD4,700 per night for a balcony room. And I thought it would be the room shown on the website(which is the main reason we chose Meander 1948but when we arrived, it wasn’t. They explained there are 6 balcony rooms and we were assigned to one of them which is not the exact same room shown on the website.I wish someone had told me about the room situation in one of the many calls I did 4 months prior my trip. Which I specifically asked about the balcony room. But no one mentioned anything.Paying $4,700 per night, I really wish they put more budget on food.
I would give it more than 5 stars if I could! I stayed here during my 15-day quarantine, I couldnt have asked for a better experience. I stayed at the balcony suite. The room is very clean and modern. Even though theyre not big rooms, the balcony made it feel much more spacious and theres plenty of light coming in. They already have Netflix set up too. The best part of it all is the hotel staff, theyre extremely helpful and kind. Theres a staff named Bea that would check in on me and even got me bubble tea because she knew I was working past midnight. It was the sweetest thing! The hotel staffs knew I was working US hours, they even opened up an extra delivery window at 2 am to make sure I wasnt hungry during off-hours. Even though quarantine is not a fun thing to do, staying here made it feel like my home away from home. HIGHLY highly recommend staying here! Thanks again to all the hotel staff that made my experience so pleasant and cozy! You guys are awesome!
I enjoyed staying here during my recent two-week quarantine. While the room I booked was minimalistic with a small bathroom (sink in bedroom area), desk and chair, the room had good natural light and the bed was really comfortable. The room opened up to a balcony, which definitely made the room feel more spacious (and helped me stay sane!). The food was mediocre, but they tried to give a variety each day.I’d have to say that the staff was very accommodating and hospitable. They communicated well and checked in regularly, informed me of important notices and celebrated quarantine milestones by sending a special snack!Thank you for making my stay enjoyable.
Meander 1948 corner room in 3rd floor has the best view to the city. Even though for the past 12 days without leaving the room, I still feel connected to the outside world. I will be back again!
I had a great experience here! Our room and the common areas were incredibly clean. The staff members were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. The guests that we ran into were really nice as well. The top floor common area is really cool and I would definitely recommend checking it out!One thing I had an issue with was their hair dryer. It gets REALLY hot. When I was finished with it and went to put it away, I burned my finger. Luckily, they had free ice in the common room freezer. Be careful!Other than that, it was easily accessible from the station, walking distance to Ningxia Night Market and close to Ximending! Would highly recommend!
Bad, rude and unfriendly hotel staff. this incident occured a few weeks ago. while I was preparing my own plate , it was very rude of you to interrupt me without proper manner. Bad manners need to stop now or you will face consequences.
Contemporary, sustainable, modern, youll be amazed from the first contact with the receptionist and the adorable paintings at the cafe lounge. The interior design is marvelous. Youll find the perfect balance of the private and public area, and the marriage of the industrial and the minimal style decor. I love the simple but authentic Taiwanese breakfast so much. The transportation is truly convenient. You could reach anywhere in Taipei easily if you decide to stay here.
Meander 1948 will forever be special to us. This is where we got engaged!!!! From the start the staff was helpful, the facility was very clean with a beautiful modern aesthetic. Love the built in cafe and included breakfast. Matcha tea and meatball soup were our faves!
Beautiful building and clean facilities, very close to Taipei Main station and Ningxia night market and surrounded by lots of good places to eat and get bubble tea! Also they have a cafe on the first floor. Loved my stay here. Highly recommend!
Did a month long stay in one of the private rooms (w/ balcony)Pros:- very clean - rooms were cleaned once a week during my month stay, and all the common areas were cleaned daily- modern design - definitely much nicer than the average hostel (I believe they won a design award recently for remodeling a historical building which keeping some of its original charm)- lots of food options nearby, and the nearest 7-11 is literally downstairs. Short walking distance to QSquare mall and Taipei Underground Mall- staff is polite and helpfulCons:- some of the rooms facing the street might get a bit noisy, but thats pretty normal in Taipei- WiFi worked fine for the most part, but there were times where the WiFi would be unusable at times (i.e video conference calls disconnecting). Unfortunately the room did not have a usable ethernet port :(- Room is a bit small, but again, this is a hostel :)Neutral:- a 10 min walk to 3 different MRT stations (Zhongshan, Taipei Main Station and Beimen- not super close but also not super far from 3 MRT stationsOverall would recommend! But I do wish the WiFi could be improved, especially for those that might need reliable internet for remote work :)
Clean and neat. The double room that I stayed for one night was very comfortable and quiet, though having no window (& being cheaper than another window room type). The shower inside the room was good, too. The breakfast was quite Taiwanese style. :)
Such a beautiful gem located in a rustic area of Taipei. The Taiwanese breakfast is a set with Xiao Long Bao (WOW), a side dish, an entree (choice of braised pork rice, soup noodle or chill noodleand a soup. Sooooo full and so interesting to try Taiwanese breakfast in this setting.
Thank you for everything! I got warmly welcomed by Kai, who has taken his time to explain me the area, the hostel and room plus the common area. I enjoyed my stay at 1948Meander and especially it’s location.
After a long and thorough hotel/hostel research...I am glad I chose to stay at Meander 1948. June, Larry and Claire made me feel welcomed the second I walked in. They were very helpful and accommodating in finding me the most suitable room for my budget. It saddens me when i think about my checkout date.Location 10/10 next to taipei main stationStaff 10/10 super cute and friendlyCleanliness 10/10 highest standard here
Wooow, this hostel is so freaking cool. Traveled more than 40 countries and been quite in many hostels, but these people surprised me with their quality.People here are adorable, the stuff, woow, Claire was super helpful and loving, Kai made a scetch for me... I felt HOME.OMG, and the breakfast, and the common area, and the cleanness of the room. Highly recommend. And its very near to Taipei Main Station.
The property was insensitive to the recent occurrence in the spreading of the virus, which we had informed them and they refused to refund our room booking fees, saying that it is not an issue or does not comply to their policy. So, please be cautious as it appears that they are not taking preventive measures to keep their patrons safe.
Loved our stay here! I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a great location, clean rooms, reasonable price, and good service.Im a major germaphobe, and hate the idea of hostels. But this felt more like a hotel with cool common areas. We got our own room and private bathroom which was nice. Although I took a shower in the common area the morning we arrived, and it was clean. The showers are hot with awesome pressure (we joked about it being better than our home).Rooms are clean and a good sized. We got the room that had a balcony, highly recommend.Breakfast is included, but we dont eat breakfast, so cant comment on quality of it. The only negative is that we asked for a cup of coffee instead of the breakfast, and they wouldnt substitute. One of the best part is the location, its very close to Taipei Main Station, and a few others.Theres a 7-11 right next door which is great for water and snacks (if you know, you know!)
Its nice place but really not perfect.Pros: good location, clean, modern and nice rooms.Cons:you need to pay for a towel, no toilet in the room, just at the same floor and no shower on the same floor!!You have to change floor to take a shower. The breakfast is a cheap McDonald voucher (that includes only the cheapest meal..)To conclude its a nice place but Im sure that there is betters.
Exceeded my expectations for a hostel! Staff members at reception were helpful and spoke good English; the room for 3 adults was clean and just the right size; I always looked forward to breakfast. Not only was it picture-perfect, but tasted good too. The hostel was close to the Taipei Main Station and walking distance to some of the must-try street food of Taipei.
Stayed in a 8 bedder room for 2 days in Late November. Definitely deserving of a 4 or 5 star rating.Location is outstanding, smack next to a 7-11 and a short stroll away from Taipei Main Station and accessible by underpass/covered walkway almost all the way through. Incredibly close to the Airport MRT as well. The room was clean, storage options were logical and had accommodations for personal luggage storage and a personal locked cabinet that had shelving and space for clothes. Bed was comfortable and clean. It is a nice touch too that upper bunks were accessible via a stair rather than the typical ladder - so itll be great if you have knee/leg issues!Facilities were great, with adequate numbers of very clean toilets (with japanese style seats!), showers (with individual changing spaces), washers and dryers. Also included is a properly equipped kitchen and lounging space on the top floor. The Free breakfast was good too, catered at the second floor from the ground floor cafe. Good for western-oriented appetites, and if desired, there are many good local options nearby too! The second floor balcony is also a nice place to get away from people during the breakfast rush too.Staff were bubbly and attentive, with good suggestions for nearby. A nice touch was that they actively sought feedback on things that could be improved for the property (and cleverly used it as a way too to find out what you have trouble with and help you with it!)Wish I had more time with this place, will definitely be back!
This is one of the best hostels I have ever stayed in! Abby and Larry were so helpful throughout my stay and made me feel at home at 1948. Thanks for having me - I’ll be back soon!
Stylish and beautiful boutique hostel. The room is sparkling clean that comes with a nice toilet and shower room. The staffs (Clairewere very friendly and they were very willing to help. The hostel is connected to a cafe and has a very cool common area that you can hang and chill out.
One of the most beautiful hostels I stayed in Taipei! Perfect location, closes to Taipei main station, and also near to an old market where lots of leather and clothing retailers grouped together. The room is clean and the loft is so beautiful! They offer all necessary facilities and a cofé.
The place was very clean, neat and hygienic. The staff Jeff - he was very pleasant and friendly and polite. He displayed excelkent customer service. The rest of the staff like Abbey was very responsive. She was helpful all the time. Larry, Karen, Claire, Sam all of them were highly trained. The free breakfast was tasty and cooked very well. It was rich in flavor. I love it. Shower rooms, toilet, pantry, common area, laundry room.... they were all in order and functional. Highly recommended and I will surely stay here again. 5 stars and great value for money.
We had a great time in meander 1948! We stayed there in total for more than a week, checking in and out to travel arround Taiwan. We thank Claire and other guys who helped us to arrange our reservations and took care of us during our stay! We loved how clean and cozy the rooms were, we hope to one day return to our home in Taipei!
I actually feel a bit bad for leaving a two star review, but I had a significant issue with my stay that I havent seen mentioned elsewhere, so Im trying to help out fellow travellers:The dorm beds are very short (by Western standards)! Maybe 190cm at max, and because of the box style there is no way to extend beyond the mattress. Im 191cm tall and not a very comfortable side sleeper, depending on the mattress at least. I slept so badly here that I actually had to switch to another hotel. Now I understand that Im atypically tall, but Ive almost never experienced anything similar in months of backpacking through Asia. Its really a shame because everything else about this place is seriously amazing. Friendly staff (although they werent so helpful with sightseeing advice), great complimentary breakfast, probably the best hostel showers ever, a lot of privacy, quiet, awesome common area and kitchen, etc.
Love my stay at meander 1948, perfect spot for anyone looking for a relaxing retreat, good location, affordable price, clean bed, cosy common area and facilities all in good condition.Further more staff were friendly and helpful especially Claire, I felt welcomed during the time I stayed there, highly recommended.
Meander 1948 was a great place to stay. It’s only a few minutes walk from Taipei Main Station and the MRT station to the Airport. Check-in staff were friendly. I stayed in the Standard Double En-suite Room for one night. It was a comfortable room with basic amenities. My only issue was that there was no where to store my luggage except the floor. There’s also no window. I was ok with that, but consider that if you prefer windows. The common area had a kitchen as well as sitting area. Throughout the times I was there, the common area was very quiet. Breakfast is also included. Overall, I’d recommend Meander 1948.
I stayed at the meander 1948 for five days. It was so clean and nice. It is near to Taipei main station. All the staff are so good at English. When i entered the meander 1948, i met a staff. Her name is Claire. She has a nice personality and absolutely professional. She explained the hostel in detail and recommended a good restaurant and places. It was really lucky to meet her. I’m so satisfied. Everyone must stay MEANDER 1948!
The place is very close to the Taipei train station but it need time to figure out the way. its about 10 mins walk. There is a 7-11 right next to it. There are lots of toys story near by , also there is a great Japanese restaurant on the other side of the road. lots of small food stroll around.
+ The hostel is new and all furnishing looks new.+ The bed is firm which is to our liking and we slept well.+ The water pressure for the shower is good.+ The location is great and a mere 5 min walk to the Taipei Main Train Station where one can easily take the Taoyuan Airport MRT to TPE airport. If you arrive by the MRT from airport, once you tap your easy card, look for City Mall Y13 and you are out at the Taiyuan Road, where the hostel is located (next to 7Eleven).- The "Standard Double Room" we booked is tiny and in our opinion, it is only comfortably fit for 1 person and not for 2 as space is tight. We only had 2 small cabin bag so it was just nice. Cant imagine if you have 2 big suitcases, dont think one can walk around the room easily.- The length of the bed is exactly from wall to wall and they should advertise this room type "only fit for person not taller than 5ft"8 because if you are taller than that, you will have to fold your leg or curl up to sleep.. Will not be a comfortable sleep. Thankfully we fit just nicely for our height. (Look photo below, our room do not have windows, but the size of room and bed is the same)
We stayed here for 2 nights. Easy to walk from the main station. Henry and all staffs were very helpful and attentive to their guests. The facilities were clean and well-maintained. Please also do try coffee from their cafe! Many places to eat and shop within the area.
Simple hotel with nice cafe at the ground floor and common area for guest for the top floor. Hotel staffs are friendly and able to speak English. Front desk is not 24 hours. There is a 7-11 just next to the hotel. 5mins walking from Taipei main station exit Y13.
This hostel had a great location, a couple of minutes walk away from Taipei Main Station. The location was perfect, a lot of food stalls and shops for buble tea in the area. The Ningxia night market was within a 10-minute walk. Meander 1984 was clean, in the rooms and also in the common room and area. Our double room (without a windowwas small and not a lot of space for your clothes, but was also clean. Really good shower. Staff were very friendly so for a short stay, I would recommend this place. Finally, this is not the cheapest place, but for the price it was well worth the experience.
Excellent hostel in Taipei Main Station area!!!You can walk to Taipei Main Station just 4 minutes. They’ve a helpful, nice staff. Everyone was helpful. Smile alwaysThis place appropriate for everyone ( couple, family, friends)New and clean facilities. Love it & I will be back next year!!!
One of the best hostel which I had been. Location is good just 10 minutes walk from Taipei Station. Staff is super helpful and friendly. I stay one night in the dormitory room. The bed is clean and comfortable. Each bed equipped had private electricity plug slot and two USB slot for charging. Two lights inside your the bed area, you can adjust the suitable light by yourself. Meanwhile the shading curtains in each bed could block almost 95% light from the public area. Living in dormitory, noise is couldnt avoid, I had very comfortable and good sleep during stay here.On the other hand, the public bathroom here, is good designed thats I even see in hostel I had been. I love the humanize design and let me had private bath in public bathroom.Free breakfast is also offered during my stay. Taste is good and coffee (paidis fantastic.
Stayed in the female dorm for 5 nights and it was great! Even though I had late check in, surprisingly they had a staff member waiting for me and I was very grateful. Probably one of the best thought out hostels Ive ever stayed in. Great location. Free breakfast, and its not just toast & cereal. Only thing I would dock them on is the coffee, but thats actually the cafe not the hostel 😝
Superb location, clean and affordable. Staff are friendly and go out of their way to ensure you are comfortable and settled. The location is superb, we were minutes away from Taipei Main Station, sprinkled around the hostel are tasty bubble tea shops, mouth watering food stalls and some of the best hand ground coffee Ive had in my travels. The hostel was well maintained with cleaning staff being just out of sight to ensure a tidy and clean establishment. Finally, this is not the cheapest place, but for the price it was well worth the experience.Might I add - the breakfasts were delicious!
Friendly staff, clean/comfortable rooms and located in convenient area of the city, we had a great stay! This place is 2nd hotel of Meander and it seems to be opened quite recently. The staff were kind and friendly and told us about the places nearby. We particularly liked the common room (though i forgot to take pictures). It felt like being home.
My family stayed here for 3days.I was really satisfied with the staff, the breakfaat they supplied for free, the event they gave us during the "New Years Day", and the cleaning, etc.Especially Abby staff was really impressive.English was great, and she tried to help us.She recommended us to go to somewhere near there. The facilities are really good to use.Breakfast was free especially during the softrun. And staffs were so kindThey gave us good impression of Taipei. My family had a really great time there.Good place to go !!!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thanks
First off the staff is very helpful and friendly, feel free to pick their brains. We arrived in taipei on december 24th 2018 and stayed here in a budget room with a window on our way to Philipinnes the next day. On our way back from the Philippines we decided to return to Meander and stay here for 4 nights while we explored the Taipei area. This time we booked a private bath room no windows, and then decided to upgrade to a private bath with windows as its tougher waking up without sunshine. On our last night we received a free upgrade to their 4th floor balcony room. This place appears to have been renovated completely very recently in a very nice European style. I recommend calling them directly to book. The common area is unexpectedly well designed (pictured hanging overhead net). Highly recommend this spot. Pictures include view from balcony, part of the balcony room, shared area with white brick walls. Btw, they also have a coin laundry onsite...
Pros:It was clean everywhere. The hospitality was good.Cons:security camera right on top of my balcony, and it was separated by pots of plantings.Room was small and layout makes it even smaller. The coffee shop downstairs opens late that I had to look for elsewhere for my coffee.Washer costs $70Dryer costs $60, it came out still not dry.The first day of my stay the towels smelled like octopus ballsOverall 5 stars for this hotel since it is newly everything
