Overlooking the golf course at Gearhart Golf Links, this Cape Cod–style inn with a coastal-inspired annex is a 4-minute walk from the beach. The pine-paneled rooms feature Pacific Northwest–themed artwork, plus free Wi-Fi, TVs and iPod docks. Room service is available. There's also a seasonal terrace and regular live music.
I love staying at McMenamins hotels with my dog because the staff always goes out of their way to make her feel welcome. I stayed at Gearhart a couple weeks ago and I forgot my pups bowl, but to my surprise there was a cute bowl and treats waiting in the room for us! I appreciated that so much. I thought the walls were a little thin at the main building where my room was, but overall the service was excellent and Id stay there again.
We booked A few months in advance for a friends wedding that was at this venue. The venue in and of itself was fabulous, staff were friendly and very attentive. However we stayed in room 307 which was under the stairs and was very loud and noisy. Listening to people go up and down the stair at night and in the morning. This room should be at a discount.
Big problems solved perfectly. That’s what makes a great hotel. Thank You so much for acknowledging and taking care of our issues.
Lovely large 2 gable room in the annex building. Even though they were short staffed, the employees were very helpful. Had fun practicing putting while having a cocktail at the Same Pit.
Staff is GREAT but the hotel rooms are out of date. If you like small rooms that are wood panels and varnished, go for it.
Lovely hotel. Ive stayed once and been here a few times to eat or drink in the restaurant/bar. Staff have always been kind. Food and drinks always top notch.
Beautiful, peaceful place to relax and enjoy good food and drink.
From the very start of our stay the place was obviously unorganized and understaffed; though given those circumstances staff was mostly friendly. We are 2 humans and 1 small dog. We paid over $600 bucks for 2 nights mid week. Our room had no view, was above back entrance to kitchen. Very noisy and could hear staff chatting and smell cigarette smoke. Food was mediocre. McMenamins has it down for cool locations and interesting stuff to look at,but for those prices I want some quality. I think this is our last McMenamins stay.
The hotel was acceptable but not at all worth the $400+ price tag. The room didn’t even have a mini fridge. And they wanted an extra $5 to use their “gym”, which was a small room with a few pieces of old exercise equipment. For that price you’d think they’d at least have thrown that in 😅
100° in PDX...cool 68° here in Gearhart....even with a big wedding reception and golfers....we were welcomed and attended to all our requests! Brilliant 👏
My girlfriend and I stayed here in celebration of a wedding held at the same location. The rooms are wonderfully unique, clean and quiet, and the staff were very friendly and helpful for both our hotel stay and for accommodating the wedding party. If I were a golfer, the course looked well maintained and fun to play on.The guest rooms themselves are golf themed, featuring unique art themed around golf.Beach access is a very short walk away, and its a very short drive back to Highway 101 if you need to grab something from a store.
This is one of our favorite Mcmenamins. Its very quiet here and the location is hard to beat being within a short walk of the beach. This is also a great place to bring dogs and children. We brought two collies and a 6 month old on our most recent visit and everything went great!
Beautiful location. Restaurant looks amazing food is great as well 😋 👌 😀
Was planning to golf @ Gearhart golf links, but was rained out so had some craft beers and good food here!
First stay at a McMenamins. Very enjoyable experience. Will plan to hit others in my travels. I had a few memorable meals. Best halibut fish and chips ever.
The rooms were clean, and fairly nice. The pillows are not great. There is no room service here, but you can order food to go downstairs and carry it up. I called the front desk a few times and they never answered.
The location is good, the staff are very helpful and friendly, the rooms are nice looking. The only thing keeping it from 5 star, is that the rooms do not have a mini fridge of any type in them. We had purchased some cheeses, before going to the location, and finding out there wasnt a fridge in the room. We had to do a make shift ice/ice bucket to keep the cheeses cool. Besides that, the place was great. It would be nice if there was a mini fridge in the room.
Here for a wedding this week and everyone here is SO genuinely kind, helpful and accommodating. Barry the bartender deserves 5 raises.
beautiful location, walking distance to the beach, and wonderfully kept golf course.food: it was expensive and tasty. the cider flight was delicious. they have and offer many packaged named housemade foods, snacks (ice cream), drinks (alcoholand etc. (saucesfor you to enjoy there or take homethe rooms: dimly light, clean comfy, each room had a nice sitting area with table, tv and spacious bathroomwe had fun looking for the secret room, enjoyed beers in the many pubs and taverns on the premises.staff: all so friendly and helpful. I lost my ring and I called to see if they may find it and they sent it back home to me. Great honest people
I did not stay overnight at this McMenamins but I live here at the coast and have stayed at various McMenamins. In my opinion,if you are a man who likes to golf this McMenamins is for you. Its the only facility that has a fill course. That being said, its also the blandest of all of the McMenamins. Still the same food and drinks though and there is 1 hidden room.
Stopped by for appetizers and snacks. Good drinks, and love the Cajun tots. Had a nice stop with my lady. Have to go back and stay sometime.
I would recommend everything about this place. Nice people, great food, good selection of beer and prefect location. I have been here a few times and it can get busy but never feels packed. I will be back many more times.
Always poor slow service. If they accidentally give you an extra drop of alcohol in your overpriced cocktail, they will probably syphon it back into the bottle. The golf course is sweet though.
The bar in the basement was fun - had a great vibe and wine selection. Go outside for a nice view of the golf course.
Good friends, good food, good service, good weather, the beach, and ELK -- what more could you want?? Stayed over St. Patricks Day with 6 other friends. The staff was friendly and helpful; the food and drink were outstanding. One demerit for lack of live entertainment on the holiday (there were bagpipe players at other McM locations that day, but not here at this CELTIC-themed resort... go figure?). All in all though, a relaxing vacay. If I were a golfer, I suppose it would have been perfect.
I would give 4.5 states. Great place/ location Awesome room, rustic and comfortable. This place has relaxed all over it. Excellent and friendly people, service, and dinners.
Would recommend this place to stop by for a drink or food but not to stay it’s not worth the price. Front staff was unhelpful, rude and unorganized. We received a twin bed when we paid for a queen weren’t told any info on the hotel or how to borrow bikes which were included to guests. The food and drinks were good but the bars and restaurants were way understaffed over an hour wait for dinner usually 20 min or so to get drinks so be prepared to wait. A fun place to stop by if you have time but won’t be staying overnight again.
We loved this McMennamins. What a fun experience and wonderful food. We are planning a wedding here in July and Carrie the event coordinator couldn’t be more helpful. We will be back. And are already planning to spend our anniversaries at other McMemnamins.
Relaxed atmosphere, fire pits outside, gluten free buns, veggie burgers, and darn good truffle fries. Plus all the charm of McMenamins. With their own cider and beer. Place is great.
Fantastic service! Beautiful room with a great view of the golf course. Fantastic food as well! We love staying at Mcmenimans whenever we can.
We had a great dinner experience at the Sand Trap McMenamins restaurant today. Fast and polite service. Leticia even brought over a goodie bag for my son to pick out a toy. It was a simple hotwheels car but it was so kind and generous. Our pizza, burger and drinks were great. Ill definitely stay at their hotel next time were in town. Thanks for making it special!
Staff was so friendly all around Gearhart! Hotel is clean and tidy. There were so many fun things about this location. Nate at the front desk was absolutely outstanding! We can’t wait to return.
Bed was hard as a rock. Pillows were way too soft. No fridge. It was dark in the room. Room had an odor that I hoped would dissipate but never did. I was put in the Annex so to get ice or go to the restaurant, I had to go out and walk across the parking lot to get in the main building (which would have be ok if not for the atmospheric river dumping rain, but that is hardly the hotels fault). I went in November and you would think for $155/night I would have a view of something other than the parking lot! The waiter/bartender in the evenings whos name I did not get was awesome. However, the food was meh (for $30 for the salmon I would have expected betterexcept the fish & chips, maybe because it was bar food. The bar tenders always make a mean Lemon Drop, which was the highlight of my stay.
We were lucky enough to witness the hickory golf tournament during our stay! The rooms are pristine and very new, free coffee/tea for overnight guests, and the staff is beyond great! We were greeted by Nate who is just a wonderful person. The next day we went to the sand trap and had the pleasure of meeting Brooklyn! She really embraces her customers and gets to know them — she is super personable. They had a grill and tasty drinks. I will absolutely be returning to this lovely property!PS: make sure to check out the hidden room if you’re staying the night!!!
Clean pleasant room, a little retro funk. Bed is way too firm for my taste. Breakfast was just ok, but there are not many choices in Gearhart. Lunch and dinner are easy choices and generally good McMenamins pub food. Liked the clam chowder. Beach is a close walk but be aware it is one with cars allowed to drive on it. Casual and fun stay. I don’t play golf but likely a great place to stay if that is your gig.
Great stay in this historic hotel. Good menu wonderful food and caring staff. We stayed during good to coast. It was busy and the staff still treated us like visited guests. Wonderful!
I love all McMenamins but this location is something special. Not being able to see the ocean from the hotel really isnt a big deal 🤷 makes the quick walk there more exciting. The staff were lovely and the bartenders here were particularly nice!
Very pretty location and nice, clean rooms. Unfortunately there was a wedding party staying at the hotel and as such, service for us other guests was pretty poor. Bartenders were clearly overwhelmed and pretty rude, even skipping over my wife and I repeatedly in order to help already drunken wedding guests. We ended up leaving the bar out of frustration. Food was good, if unexciting. Been there, done that - no need to ever visit again.
It was counter service only when we were there, which worked out fine for our group. During busy times though the line for food and drinks was very long. The restaurant is large and the outdoor deck is too, but its not covered so will only work if the weather is dry. Some of the tables outside did have umbrellas, but those probably dont work well with the misty rain you often get on the coast. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. Just plan to go during off-peak times.
I am a huge fan of Mcmenamins in general. Ive had the honor of knowing many of the artists whose work adorns their beautiful locations. This was the fourth time Ive been to the Gearhart pub to grab a bite to eat. We both got bacon cheeseburgers and had them lettuce wrapped. For the price, there really isnt much burger but they were yummy. The staff was noticeably stressed out because it was a beautiful day and they were slammed and it seems that with the recent Covid stuff they have had to adapt in terms of how they are organizing everything. The lady who took our order at the bar was super friendly and kind even though I could tell everyone who worked there were tired and the location was understaffed. I appreciated her kindness. We will definitely be back because we love to explore the different locations and their quirky decor and themes.
Always fun to stay at a McMenamins property! They had a great breakfast, interesting and cozy rooms, and the vibe is great. The Sand Bar near the putting green was fantastic. We stayed there and played some fun putting games whilst having some superb cocktails. Can’t wait until I can return!
Disappointing . Ordered from the bar and sat at the bar. Had one drink then was forced to wait in 20 minute line to order second drink instead of ordering from the bar., meanwhile food had been delivered and sitting getting cold. They should really think about a drinks line and food line. Clearly the three bartenders could not handle the capacity. Then had to wait again to cash out....clearly only the blonde woman was capable... sorry wouldn’t return
Very disappointed! Ordered a to go salmon with salad and the salmon was a 2 inch x 2 inch piece seasoned terribly for $18! And they didnt supply a fork to eat with or a napkin! I could have gotten better food at a fast food drive thru. Not recommended!!
I took the family to the restaurant here because we love McMenamins food and we were nearby doing some coastal activities. Thoughts: The restaurant ..this might sound weird, but "less magical," than some of the other restaurants they own. Our server was very nice, but the prices were noticeably elevated over any other McMenamins I have been to, including two other hotels (Kennedy and Edgefield.Just based on those things I wouldnt go back out there for lunch. I still love McMenamins, but this spot didnt do it for me.
If you are looking for a hotel with amenities, this isnt it. Our pillows werent even standard sized...and sleeping with a narrow pillow isnt pleasant. On a king sized bed! No fridge, no ice access after restaurant close. No fans, not a whole lot at all. We had a drink at the pot bunker bar before close and the bartender was very nice. However we went up to the sand trap bar afterward and had slow and lackluster service. Also, my margaritas didnt taste right and I have had MANY mcmenamins margaritas over the years. I felt like an inconvenience just asking someone for water. So I didnt.
If you are not sure what to eat I highly recommend the Pot Bunker Crab Mac n cheese it is amazing, the sliders are a great appetizer to accompany this meal. My server Jake recommended several of his favorite day hikes in the area, great guy with excellent people skills. Fast and friendly with great ambiance. Great date site.
Nice locations close to the beach. Food was very good on the Pub menu. With covid protocol they did not have indoors dining. The outdoor area has fairly good heater coverage. Did not have to face any foul weather while dining, but I am sure room service would take care of that. Nice rooms as well. Staff were all very friendly, but service at dinner lacked due to limited staff.
This was such a fun place, they have this whole Covid thing figured out with drinks to go, fire pits, and the entire staff is awesome. I want to come back and play golf. On your way out grab one of the bottles of Gin, etc they made. They have their own distillery so you got options! The hotel room was so fun, they really got a good thing here.
We enjoyed the outdoor dining even with the cold wet weather. The cedar fires were amazing and well kept. The space heaters did a great job keeping us warm while we dined. The food was delicious and served by your friendly staff. We did encounter an issue our first night. There was no waitlist for a table or any system to really check in. The only wait staff available was clearly over worked and doing his best to wait on tables and people waiting. Obviously it was impossible for him to keep track of who was in line for a table. In the two dinners we had he was the only server. It seemed like the the whole place was working with skeleton crew. The waiter was so friendly and nice and quick to apologize but honestly it wasnt his fault. The bartender told us they wouldnt do a waitlist because they werent sure how many people would come out. Im not sure what that had to do with anything. Our room in the main building was well kept and very clean with a large bathroom. All staff had masks on as well as guests we felt very comfortable. We were there for our Anniversary and Mcmenamins gifted us a 4 pack of cider which was a very nice touch, thank you! We recommend the Hammerhead package as it was a great deal! The hidden room was cool, our only clue to find it was from the front desk girl who told us to push on the walls in the annex! Thanks for a memorable stay!
Front desk staff are friendly and helpful. Due to COVID restrictions had to eat outside or in our room. The room was small and with no table and one chair so not easy to eat in. Told there are heaters outside but not by all tables. Each day was a different experience. Told we can make dining reservations one day, then the next day we make a reservation and arrive at reservation time to find out they are no longer doing reservations. We made the best of it. Had sunny weather at the coast in December so cant complain there. We had breakfast delivered to our room and 2 dinners outside. The food was served very hot outdoors but breakfast was on the cold side.
