Maynooth Castle, Main St, Maynooth, Co. Kildare, Ireland, Leixlip
Large 13th-century earl's home & grounds, open seasonally with guided tours & history exhibits.
Wonderful place, excellent experience and the guide staff was lovely
Excellent, detailed tour given by a guide who lives and breathes the history around her. Well worth a visit and highly recommended. Well done to the OPW on the preservation and presentation of the castle.
Beautiful medieval castle, free admission and free guided tours.
Many years ago I had a tour of the interior of the castle and was told that I was not permitted to photograph because my camera looked professional and I would, therefore, need a permit in advance of the tour. I should mention that the tour was free and excellent.Today I used an iPhone but I did not actually enter the building.
If you visit I would recommend going on guided tour - Its free and you learn a lot about Irish history. It exceeded our expectations! 10/10 must see :)
Katherine is one of the best guide we ever meet: thx to her we learn a lot about irish history
I guess I arrived 500 years later because I saw nothing but few ruins
Nice place to get good pictures. The entry inside to the castle area was restricted. Not sure if it was due to covid regulations.
Very well maintained
Beautiful castle
Beautiful small Irish city...nice for walk ,restaurant.Old Castle is Top.Old college and the some old St.Patrick cathedral. For sure u will enjoy it..🙂
We just saw the outside of the castle. It is very well preserved and in a beautifully cared area
Very nice building
s looking nice but there is no entry
The castle has impressive buildings and a very nice garden, full of interesting trees and flowers. It is worth visiting to have a relaxing tour.
Could only view from outside , site closed due to Co-vid , but will return when it reopens
Small castle, unfortunately interior closed currently, have to go back for look when opens
Beautiful area
Extremely important piece of Irelands history.
The grounds were closed at 4.45pm in spite of a schedule until 5.45pm, the only views available are from the street with very little information. Impressive ruins that would gain from better signs and correct opening hours displayed.
Historic Castle maintained by Office of Public Works ,
Tourist attraction my rear end. I cudve gone to me garden if i wanted to look at some rocks on top of one another. Honestly. At least i got an ice cream down the road afterwards otherwise that day wudve been awful. Dont go people....save urself the time and wash ur car or something else productive.
-I do not think it worth to travel to Maynooth ONLY for that+Free entry
Nice histrory, but just a ruin
Amazing place of heritage.
Some very interesting facts and info here, worth a drop in when in the area
Beautiful good place to visit and see the ruin.
Go visit, its free. The friendly staff will regail you with stories!
Very interesting, great history, friendly helpful staff.
A wonderful historical site not every large from the 1400s with a few battle scars to prove it stood its ground for a while. Its located near the centre of Maynooth easy to find its a great spot for a picnic too.
Historical...Brilliant and free
Brilliant girls absolutely loved learning about the local history and being able to touch and walk around the castle and compair it to the model, they had some amount of theorys by the end of it . Great day out
Really lovely late medieval castle held by the earls of Kildare in Maynooth village at the gates of the university.
Nice enough but Id have rather seen a few other things
It was closed and much more in ruins than I expected but still majestic
Iwill have to visit the castle again before I pass comment on it as I had very little time to myself yesterday.
Nice place but the castle itself only opens a few times a year. The college is right beside it and open all year
Nice historic building.
A beautiful place, can take good pictures of it and you really feel like youre back in time
Its good but not much impressive
A great attraction and worth a visit.
So beautiful.
Nice Castle! If you are around Maynooth I recommend you to pop over and check this great place. Its nice to learn more about Maynooth history.
!2-13th century castle in the heart of Maynooth. The ground floor has been converted to a museum with informative displays of the sites history. Additional information targeted to children, as well as interactive activities, are also available. Upstairs, the remains of the great hall can be seen, though only limited explanation is provided and there is not much left to see. A few of the outbuildings and remains of the castle walls can be seen in the surrounding grounds.
Great tour, the castle itself and the grounds are so beautiful. Its amazing how these buildings are still standing after so many years of wear and tear.
We were too early for the tour and didnt have time to wait. But the castle and grounds are beautiful.
I went to visit this castle in Kildare today and its a very nice castle. I absolutely love castles.
Fun, informative, beautiful grounds. Plus right down the street you can get a great Americano and delicious bite to eat.
Beautiful ruins of Maynooth Castle.Had a great tour of the Castle with our guide from the Office of Public Works who explained the long history of the Castle and the surrounding area.Well worth a visit.
Very helpful staff and interesting displays but not a whole lot to see. However, a very nice place to go.
