Mayfel's in Asheville

Mayfel’s just put a smile on our face! Coffee was some of the best I’ve had at a restaurant - strong and flavorful - and the waitress ensured our cups never ran empty. The beignets were delicious and a great starter, definitely save room for them before or after your meal.The grits were fantastic, breakfast potatoes and bacon were nice and crisp, and my scramble was wonderful. Everyone was so friendly, and it was just an all-around great place to be to start the day. We hope to return again when we are in the area.

Ate here last weekend with a group of 7 and we loved our meals! Some highlights were the beignets, biscuits & gravy, mac-n-cheese, and fried okra. We got there right when they opened which I would definitely recommend with a bigger group as the space is on the smaller side.

Lovely brunch spot right in the heart of downtown! The Benedict’s had perfectly cooked eggs, the home fries are delightfully seasoned and the mayfelade (a playful muddled mint vodka lemonadewas refreshing! We got sat within 15 mins on a very busy Saturday morning and everything was great! Would definitely recommend! Next time I shall be getting those powdered sugar beignets!

We stopped in for a quick drink. Must recommend the raspberry margarita. The service was fast and the drink was amazing. Staff were great and super helpful.

Mayfel’s is a southern style restaurant in downtown Asheville. We had the shrimp and grits, jalapeño honey cornbread and fried green tomatoes. Everything was hot and seasoned perfectly. Solid comfort food.

Friendly staff. Food was alright. I had the lobster po boy. The wait was not too bad on a Sunday morning.

The food is delicious, drinks are good & staff is nice. It was really crowded when we arrived but didnt take long at all for us to be seated. This place has a good vibe, and I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a good meal in the downtown Asheville area!

I recommend ordering the club sandwich with sweet potato fries. You won’t regret it! Beignets were just ok.

Yummy! The wait was suppose to be pretty long, but we were able to get in due to larger parties waiting. Also, they ask you stand close so you can hear names being called... its hard to hear. We got to sit on the back patio and enjoyed our brunch! I had their special pork belly omelet and my boyfriend had their crab Benedict. Fast service for how busy they were! Thank you guys!

Started with beignets…they were great! Blood Mary completely on point and the country fried steak on a biscuit with caramel onion gravy was outstanding! Had a bite of the French toast…also delicious!

This place has some of the best Cajun food, hands down! The service was great & I got the chicken creole pasta, which was the best Cajun pasta Ive ever had.. 🙂

Beignets are fresh and tasty.I had the pork belly scrambled eggs, which tasted like it was gonna clog up my arteries but delicious. The portion size is very generous, so if your portion size is smaller, consider sharing the plate with your company

New Orleans style food in the middle of Asheville, North Carolina. Complete Mardi Gras vibes which make you feel like you are sitting on Bourbon Street. The fried green tomatoes, delicious! Beignets, who doesnt like them!?!?!

Loved the decor and Im glad we got to try this place. Our food was good but we were disappointed with the beignets and the mimosas. The beignets looked great but were a little bland but it was fun trying them. My French toast was very good and my friends meal was delicious as well. Will definitely come back to try more dishes

My goodness! The review alone will tell you Mayfels is worth every dime. The brunch was shockingly good to be placed in this little ole town.The staff was amazing and tentive regardless of the wait. The New Orleans style food was amazing; almost felt as though you stepped right into the city itself.I wont say too much but if youre in Ashville, NC do yourself a favor and eat here.

Excellent dinner, great location, waitress was awesome & knowledgeable of menu items, great portions, reasonable pricing. All this makes for a repeat visit. Seafood gumbo had tomatoes & corn, not typical but lots of crawfish tails. Seafood etouffee was decent, although the shrimps were a bit undercooked. Chicken pasta special was top notch. Blue salad was on point. Beignets were on the dense side, not airy. Calamari was a killer with added arugula & marinara sauce.

Neat little eclectically decorated restaurant in downtown with indoor/outdoor seating. The food was very good. I look forward to eating here again!

Came here for dinner with our dog! Everything was fantastic. The cocktails were nice. Beignets super fluffy and fresh. Gumbo was fantastic! And you gotta try the alligator sausage jambalaya. Delicious! Would 10/10 recommend.

Saw Mayfels was a must stop for Asheville lunch. Very busy little place, so we took that as a good sign. Beignets we’re “ok” but made to order and hot. The po’ boy with Beyond vegan sausage was so good! Service was fast and straight forward. Would definitely revisit

On our way to a food tour in Asheville we walked past Mayfel’s, there was a huge beignet sign on the sidewalk that caught our eyes. It is a cute Louisiana inspired restaurant that is dog friendly. We immediately decided that we were coming back before the end of our trip and sure enough we stopped here for a late breakfast/early lunch our last day.The service was fast and the staff was very friendly. The food was so so good! I’ve been to New Orleans a few times now and always get shrimp étouffée and this is up there! Great taste, a lot of shrimp and crawfish, nothing other than a little hot sauce was needed. My husband got the biscuit and gravy and ate the entire plate. Said the biscuits were amazing and the perfect serving! I can’t wait to travel back here in the future. We ate the beignets so fast so we didn’t get to take a photo of it.

The fried crab cake appetizer, beignets, and fried chicken biscuit with gravy were all great for Saturday brunch at Mayfel’s in Asheville! I upgraded to sausage gravy on the biscuit but it didn’t need it; the regular peppered gravy would have been fine because it was already very flavorful. The outside covered sidewalk patio is heated and was quite comfortable. I recommend it!

Went with six people. Ordered appetizers, enters desserts drinks. Food was excellent. Generous portions. Service was super. Desserts were greatWe took several boxes home for next daysLunch. Highest recommendation

Lovely beignets! Great atmosphere. A must in Asheville.

Good breakfast, but typical menu is all savory. Not sure of they have a Sunday brunch or if the pictures of sweet breakfast items were of the specials menu that changes all the time, but no typical sweet items here other than the beignets (which are really well made and delicious but dont come with sauce). I ended up having biscuits and gravy, and it was really good, but not what I was looking forward to. But seriously though, if you prefer a savory menu anyway, then highly recommend!

Oh my, this is why I visit the south! I’m from the pacific northwest, so I’m always craving some good southern food while exploring the area, and this place did not disappoint! Elevated food with the comfort of a classic friendly restaurant. Shrimp and grits were heavenly. Cannot wait to visit again.

Have enjoyed Mayfels every time I go to Asheville. I tried the steak scramble special this last visit and was not disappointed! We had a large party and they told us it might be about an hour, however they were able to seat us within 30 minutes!! I will definitely return

The servers are very pleasant. The food wasnt that great for me. Im not a fan of blue cheese on my Grits. On a positive note their Beignets are DELICIOUS!!!

70s music playing during the lunch hour, breakfast served all day, and beignets that don’t disappoint… I like Mayfel’s. Good Louisiana cuisine that makes you feel like you are sitting in downtown NOLA, not Asheville. All 6 meals were well prepared and the service top notch. Recommend!

Great food and even better service. I had the Mayfels club with sweet potato fries and it was delicious. Dog friendly covered patio and water bowls. Will definitely be back!

Good food, nice atmosphere. It is a Louisiana bayou themed restaurant and menu. Mid day during the week there was about a 15 - 30 minute wait. I dont know if they were short staffed, but it took a while to get our food. For us it was not a problem, and when our food was served it was perfectly cooked and hot. We had the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer and they were delicious. I had the smoked salmon Benedict and was very pleased with my meal. Plan to go back and try out more of the menu items.

Crab cake fritters were ok, but the smoked salmon Benedict was to die for. The breakfast sandwich was incredible as well. We will be back.

Wonderful atmosphere! New Orleans style decor with exceptional wait staff! Food is outstanding along with nice selection of beers, wines, and cocktails. Will DEFINITELY be back for more!

The small space created an hour long wait, and when we finally got a table the service left quite a bit to be desired. The Asheville Scramble was great, but save your money and pass on the beignet.

A must when in Asheville. The seafood gumbo and crab cakes Benedict were life giving and make up for the undercooked green beans. Also, amazing service. Long wait so be ready to factor in timing wise. Will definitely be back.

This was my favorite food of our Asheville trip! I’m obsessed with eggs Benedict and have had it many places, but their crab cake Benedict is the best I’ve ever had. The macaroni and cheese is also a must if you stop here. I want to come back for the beignets!Our service was a little rocky at first, but our waiters swapped midway, and the second one was much kinder. We ate outside and it was heated and covered, so no need to worry about weather. I did pop inside to use the restroom though, and it was cute and whimsical.

The wait...is...Long...BUT OMG WORTH IT...mayfels was not our destination but we saw the crowd and ended up changing our plans. Service is fast and with a smile! The food was incredible!! Being out of towners we ordered a small feast...but every bite was pure perfection

Amazing food. I had chicken and biscuits with gravy. Grits on the side. The grits were wonderful. The chicken was some of the best I have had, and it was delicious with the gravy and biscuit. Service was wonderful. We showed up at opening, got seated quickly and had out breakfast right away.

Pros - With heavy foot traffic and outdoor seating, Mayfels is that great relaxed environment for people watch and flavorful meals. With live music just across the street thank to the weekly drum circle its hard not to enjoy this place.Cons - We dined there very early on Friday, about 5:30pm as we wanted to avoid the crowds. There was only one table occupied in the restaurant. Not very surprised as we were pretty early for dinner. We were greeted and seated right away. While the food was great, with only having two tables, our server didnt pay much attention to us, beverage glasses sat empty pretty much the entire meal until we got the attention of the server. The second table had food delivered, however there were no silverware in sight for them to use. Though quickly resolved. This was disappointing as it wasnt busy.

We stopped in for a Beignet and a Bloody Mary - it was that time of day! - and enjoyed some people watching, street-side.If you do visit (recommended), make sure to pop your head inside, too, for a visual fiesta.

Great service. The gumbo was very tasty. The jambalaya was very flavorful but quite spicy at the same time, the heat was overpowering and couldnt really enjoy the food. My wife ordered the fried oysters, onion rings with Mac and cheese combo. The Mac and cheese was delicious!! The oysters not so much, no flavor, we only ate a couple each. The onion rings were good, but why do they need to be so spicy as well.. it just onion rings lay off the darn pepper!

Food is delicious and plentiful! The outdoor seating is nice and does not feel cramped even when they have a lot of customers. Service is very quick. We spent about $60 with a tip and everything was delicious! I highly recommend the gumbo and shrimp and grits! Also, they are dog friendly!!

We had a party of 7 at 10:30 am on Monday, July 5, 2021. There was a 45 minute wait, but it ended up being only 40 minutes. It’s very vegetarian-friendly! Yarah was our waitress and she was great! Even though she had so many tables (both inside and outside), she got everything out to us in a timely manner.Here’s what we got:- French Market Beignets ($1 each): Wowow. Nothing rivals Café du Monde, but these are really good.- Fried Chicken Biscuit ($15): We got it with the milk gravy. I really liked that they had that as an option. The biscuit and chicken were delicious.- Asheville Scramble ($14): Good portion. Could’ve used some sauce or something. It was pretty dry. But it’s cool because you can get it with eggs or tofu.- Smoked Salmon Benedict ($15): The salmon was good, but the English muffin was very thin and hard.- Veggie Omelet ($13): Didn’t seem as big of a portion, but maybe that’s because my mom ordered just egg whites.Everything came with a side. We got home fries, sweet potato waffle fries, parmesan grits, and fruit. All were amazing. My favorite were the sweet potato waffle fries though.Overall, we recommend Mayfel’s! Good food and good prices.

Skip. Like many other patrons, we stopped by Mayfels because the neighboring Tupelo Honey had a 2 hour wait. I appreciated the no wait, the friendly server (she even ran down the street behind a guest who had left his phoneand the fresh beignets which were the highlight of the meal. We were on the patio and the street was bustling on a Saturday afternoon which was nice for people watching. However the food (other than the beignetsleft a lot to be desired. I do hate to leave a negative review during the pandemic, but the food was below average. Maybe it was an off day and you can try for yourself and leave a review to counter mine!
