Mayes Oyster House in San Francisco

The description on google needs to be changed. There was a pop up there. The woman working there said that Mayes was sold about 8 years ago and is no longer an oyster bar, but a night club. There are pop ups that occupy the space.The pop up was delicious!!

Two girls and I had a good time here for Saturday night dancing, music, and drinks. Hospitable owner and staff. Proper restroom. Young 20s crowd and music to fit. Integrity true to their web-posted lost and found policy: I left behind a personal valuable and the owner and staff kindly found it and had it ready for pickup the next day. Thank you Mayes!

Lack of information on prices, prices are at the head of the customer and are not marked anywhere. I was told that a cocktail was at $10, they made me pass the card for that amount, 30 days later the statement showed me $16. From the moment the prices are not displayed clearly, in Europe this is considered a fraudulent sale. I got tricked for a total of $25, we had a lot of fun there, thats why Im leaving 3 stars. But always pay in cash.

They used to have good music selections. Now they just play typical pop songs you can hear all the time at shopping malls. I mean cmon it’s Friday. I requested a song for Dj, never played it!!!! Ain’t it

Unfriendly & unhelpful staff. Known theft issue that the bouncers seem well aware of but dont mind. There are great options on Polk street, Id recommend strolling past Mayes and having a great night elsewhere.

The chef was super nice and the rest of the staff made great suggestions for our brunch. This was a great New Years day recovery brunch.

A great place to hang out and have a bite and a drink! The staff and owner are all super friendly. Ive been a guest DJ here since 2011 or so, and I always enjoy myself every time I visit!!

Santa con, Halloween, st pattys…you will find me at Mayes even on a weekend. The music is always so good and I always have so much fun

Very accommodating and extremely considerate of the worlds currents circumstances. Everyone NEEDS to go here and enjoy a night of safety, libations and superb snacks. Will definitely be a staple for me.

Beware: there is organized crime at this establishment. Myself and countless other people have had a phone or wallet stolen at this place. The issue is so rampant and so well organized that there is no way the management is not part of the scheme. I honestly dont know how the police havent done anything about this place given that they have been operating this way for several years. In my own experience a while ago, I felt someone pull my phone out of my pocket, and when I immediately turned and saw a man behind me put it in his own pocket, he argued with me and led us over to the bouncer to have him "pat him down" to check for the phone even though I SAW HIM PUT MY PHONE IN HIS POCKET. The bouncer not only lied to my face that the thiefs pocket was empty, he had the gall to tell me I should APOLOGIZE to the man who just stole from me and threatened to throw me out. If there is any justice in the world, this place will go under because of COVID and the owner will go bankrupt.

Definitely a place to go when you are in the mood to let loose and have a fun time. Its a crowded nightclub vibe, perfect way to start a night out. Just remember to stay safe and drink responsibly :)

My friend had his birthday party here tonight and 3 of our friends had their wallets and phones stolen from there purses that were zippered closed and on their person. We were I outside talking to the cops and 8 other people also had their belonging stolen tonight and they said it happens all the time at Mayes. Don’t go here. Professional thieves target this place. I’ve been out all over SF and never had this happen to me or my friends in the four years I’ve lived here.

STOLEN PHONES! READ REVIEWS! STAY AWAY. If you read all the reviews, you will notice this happens ALL the time here. Went with my friends on a saturday night, 3 of us got our PHONES STOLEN FROM PURSE. A staff employee told us "oh 4 other girls just came to tell us they got their phones stolen too". Told the owner of the bar right after and he didnt seem to care and didnt try helping. All he did was say "I told security" and walked away. Reading from the reviews and how often phones are stolen here, I find it really suspicious that this happens so often and the owner/employees arent doing anything to stop this. Please do not go and support this place until this stops! ONLY GO HERE IF YOU WANT YOUR STUFF STOLEN. Never coming here again.

STOLEN PHONES! DO NOT GO HERE! full blown organized crime! 3 of us got their phone stolen from within their purse. whoever is thatking Peoplethis here knows what they are doing and they do it very well, been to plenty of similar clubs in other cities and never had an experience like this. The people we suspected from came out of the bar from other doors other then the front door and they are great friends with the owner of the place which was one of the bar tenders (as we were told by staff and we spoke to him about the stolen phonesnothing was done/could be done.

YOUR PHONE WILL GET STOLEN HERE. Go here if you want to dance until the crushing disappointment of realizing your phone is gone. NOT WORTH IT. They need to be way better about figuring out how to stop the theft here, people should stop coming until they get it together.

Went there to enjoy my Friday night w friends, was jumped by bunch of people and all my stuff was stolen. I have stitches on my head and my face. Do not go to this place, it is organized crime. It happened other girls same night as well. You can read it from other people’s as well, it’s been happening for awhile

We drove here from east bay for wednesday oyster and wings special we saw on Google search. Their hours say they open at 5 yet they were not open until 8. Once we finally do get inside they tell us that the kitchen is closed. I feel there should be a clear communication between business and customers for the hours of operation and specials to avoid wasted time making a trip there in vain and leaving hungry.

IPHONE THEFT IS NOTORIOUS HEREI went to Mayes last night (5/4and my iPhone was stolen out of my purse. I just wish I had read the reviews on this place prior to going because I would have read the plethora of reviews noting STOLEN iPHONES OUT OF PURSES. Security brushed it off. Its dark, loud, and we were crammed in like sardines. The most interesting part about it is this has been going on for years (one review even stated that 14 girls reported missing iPhonesand management is doing nothing about it. Why? Because theyre most likely in on it and sending people into the crowd to steal phones.DO NOT GO HERE. If you do, be very cautious and deal with the risk. Find any other bar with music and keep your precious belongings to yourself. Im sick to my stomach knowing that I lost something so valuable to me with so many memories. I dont want this to happen to anyone else!!!!

I have only been to Mayes to dance, but it is a really great place to dance! They play really good music and the dance floor is really large. They play the music videos on the tvs that are on the dance floor as well. They have nice clean bathrooms and lines are never too bad. It is such a fun place!

This is a review of the club not the restaurant. My friends and I went to Mayes last night, stood in line, got our IDs checked but had no cash when we got to the front of the line. So one of our friends went inside to pull out cash for everyone’s cover. When he went to the atm, the rest of us stood to the side to wait. As we’re waiting, one of the bouncers came up to our group and said that me and my other friend didn’t get our IDs checked. However, we did! But he continued to accuse us, so me and my friend went back to the same bouncer who checked our IDs to have him recheck them . The ID-checking bouncer admitted to me and my friend to having checked our IDs already but where was his voice when the other bouncer was accusing us? Anyways, we went back to the group to wait for our friend who was pulling out cash. At this point, I decided to record a video of this bouncer who was clearly having a power trip. He saw me record and then had the audacity to tell my friend (who got back and paid for our coverthat everyone else can go in but me because I recorded a video. You’ve got to be kidding me. I went in, regardless. I understand that being a bouncer is hard because you’re dealing with a lot of unreasonable drunk people, but that gives you no right to run around pointing fingers and making accusations with not merit. And for the record, it’s my legal right to record a video in public especially if I feel as though I was being mistreated. Hire better bouncers, management at Mayes.

Terrible staff. The security at the entrance got my ID because I had to get money at the ATM to pay the cover. When I returned to guet my ID back it was gone. How can they lose the customers ID? Its so basic, terrible service ever.Why would they keep our IDs for?

Hate this place so much!!! I visited the first time almost a year ago, then on May of this year I took some friends here because I thought it was a great place, and what happened? Got my iPhone stolen (details are not important after reading other peoples comments having the same issue in this placeI got over it, got another phone and this Saturday (oct 13thdecided to go back with some friends, with the voice in my head saying; be careful, hold your phone... (my mistake was not reading reviews after my first phone got stolen or even before visiting this awful placeat the end of the night when I was about to leave I put my phone in my purse, when I was going to grab it again... GONE!!!It gets worse... two of my other friends went through the same that night, one got robbed another iPhone, and the other one a wallet with all her documents and cards in there.DONT RISK IT PEOPLE! Staff is useless and they only say: "Oh, nothing we can do about it, we had a lot of stolen phones tonight" What the heck!? That makes think with a lot of confidence that they are the thieves, maybe not... who knows? But they should do something about this problem.It wasnt only me, but a loooooooooooot of people! :( still so annoyed!

Agree with other comments about theft! Be very careful if you go, my phone was stolen out of my cross body purse along with a phone from my friends back pocket. Be aware of your belongings when you go looks like it has happened to a lot of people!!!!!

This is the best place Tuesday thru Saturday night to dance, stop in for cocktails and have a great time. Features the best DJs bartenders and security in the bay area. Sara, Stephonia and Of course Matthew really deliver an exceptional time.

Live down the street so when they charge a $10 cover 🖕 and walk right passed. But has a ok dance floor long islands are strong. Seems like my wife and I will pick up a 3rd here soon enough for the night. 😈

Nice place for everyone to gather when they convert it into a night club. However their relatively high cover for nothing much in terms of entertainment as well as high theft rates (4 of my friends have had their phones stolen here on different occasionsmake this place less than desirable.

I went here over the weekend at night when it turns into a club. It was bangin! The bouncers were not bad and the drinks I had were not watered down. Bar service was quick and friendly too considering there is only 1 bar. The DJ was spinning hip hop and everyone was dancing.

Came here for a friends birthday party the day before Halloween this year. It was incredibly packed. We had ordered table service and were hoping to get some space, but the table service really just included the drinks and the table. There was no control over space or who was occupying tables (someone was sitting at our table when we got there). The crowd was obviously crazy, but overall a fun night. The music was a mix of old 90s to current pop and hip hop, lots of identifiable songs and not so much EDM or house music.

NOTORIOUS FOR THEFT!!! Ladies, please do not leave your phones in your purse, as ridiculous as that may sound. My phone, my best friends phone, and 14 other women who reported it got pickpocketed on Saturday night at Mayes. I heard from other friends who have visited Mayes in the past year that this happened to them too. Obviously management is doing nothing about this issue, and clearly they dont care to let their name be dragged in the dirt by shady thieves. So please, DO NOT GO HERE, or at least hold on to your purse, 24/7 if you do. I was wearing a small satchel that was on my shoulder the entire night, and the thieves unzipped my purse, reached in, and stole it without me noticing. Ive never felt so violated in my life. DISGUSTING PEOPLE...

The oysters and the fries werent bad, but if youre looking for a restaurant experience, skip it. They have a limited menu which includes burgers - its more like bar food with fresh oysters of the day. Theres no one to check in with if you have reservations. Hunt down someone who looks like they might be staff, and they will tell you to sit anywhere . . .

Mayes is a good spot to come if you want to dance on Polk Street. The music is current and the DJ mixes it really well. Party music. The dance floor does get crowded, and it can get really hot inside.You will have fun here if you are drunk. So get drunk!

This place gets REALLY hot on a busy night. The dancing is ok and you get drinks relatively quickly. I wouldnt say this is the best place in San Francisco, but it for sure isnt the worst. If youre into the casual club scene its a fun time.

This place is fun if you are looking for a rowdy night or love the club scene of Polk st. However, it is very crowded, hot and loud. If you do not like clubs, this is not the place for you. The wait for drinks is extensive, the line is always long to get in and there is almost always a cover. Can be a fun night out but is not for everyone.

Love this place! My favorite spot in San Francisco to get some dancing with my friends on the weekends or to just chill at the bar. One of the best happy hour in San Francisco from 5-7pm weekdays/ 3-7pm weekends. Food is awesome too, Oysters are their specialty.Staff is superfriendly and fun. Also great venue to host events - tons of beautifully designed, versatile space.

Ive been to this bar on two occasions. The first time was on a Friday night, the other time was yesterday during the US v Portugal game.First off it was a ten buck cover for at best a subpar "lounge." Im new to the city so I paid the cover cause I was thinking how bad could it be?BOILING HOT. CRAMPED. EHHHH CROWD.Nowhere to put your coat and no coat check. A DJ was mixing that night but the music was OKAY some of the mixes just didnt make sense to me. It took at least 20 minutes to get a drink. The drinks were OKAY, the bartender made the wrong drink for me the first time. The crowd was really odd. Grabby guys (despite being there with my boyfriend), wasted girls, and so much SWEAT. Its horribly hot in there to the point that some thugs in the corner had their tanks over their shoulders. It was an okay place I guess but I honestly could not get over how hot it was and the crowd was creeping me out.Yesterday, my boyfriend and I came across Mayes in the day light and didnt even recognize the place. Its a nice spacious venue to have a drink with a lot of TVs. The problem was that the staff didnt know how to use the remote. They have hundreds of people in their bar to watch the World Cup and they dont even have the channel on ESPN! Another TV was off throughout the entire game. The staff were so flustered running around like chickens withe their heads cut off. It is as if they did not know the game was on. That could have been forgiven but then when our bill came it had an extra $40 tacked on to it in liquor charges. When I told the bartender we only had bottled beer he tells me those are just the prices not necessarily that we had liquor. Then he runs off and starts printing out tickets then turns to us and yells "56?" Um what? Anyway we squared away the bill (still tipped them 20%!and left.I wont be coming back.

So I cant speak to the food here, but the nightlife is great! We were here on a Saturday night, right before 10pm. That gets you in the doors without having to pay cover. After 10pm, cover is only $10, so its really not that bad. The bathrooms are clean and the music was good. There are two bars - one up front in the mingle/bar tables area, and one in the back in the corner of the dance floor. The dance floor is a good size but it gets packed later on in the night. So if youre not into a squish-fest, youve got to plan your timing just right.

Great DJ for dancing. Ive never eaten at Mayes, but Ive been dancing on a Friday night and really enjoyed myself. The music was great and it wasnt too crowded. No cover at the time either and short wait time.

Has anyone ever come here for the actual food?Im not sure, but if youre looking to dance, then this is a pretty good spot. The music is pretty good and theres a fairly big dance floor. The drinks are ho hum, so dont expect the worlds best old fashioned here. Word of the wise, watch out around midnight because thats usually when the Marina creeps down and invades this fun spot.

For a no frills dance club this place has it going on. Mayes draws a diverse crowd of every race, age, and type and they all love to dance. Music videos of the latest pop hits line the walls while pros get down on the floor. Get there from 9-10 cover is free.

I appreciate their great happy hour prices. I like this place for something simple and cheap - $1 oysters, $3 beers and a happy hour thats more like happy dinner - 5-7pm. Some good food options as well. Great decor and great dancing if youre out late!!
