Comfy spot for seasonal Sicilian cooking, balsamic gin & tonics & a selection of premium cigars.
average food slow service also beware of added service charge
Good ambience and good food. Limited menu but they do it well. Tilted towards seafood but has some good vegetarian options as well .
A real family establishment. We went for dinner and had three courses with wine. Everything was delicious and the service was excellent. We will come back again!
One of the best Italian meals I have had in a very long while! Highly recommended.
The food was really good but very short staffed so took a while to get it. The calamari for starter was the highlight one of the best i have had.Overall definitely recommended just expect to wait for your food
We went to max’a brassiere tonight and I don’t even know where to start. My boyfriend had bruschetta as a starter which was on the specials, it was soggy French stick with just chopped tomatoes. No flavour at all. Our starter plates were not taken away for a good 45 minutes and we had to go up to the bar to order more drinks. When our mains came my boyfriends pasta was poorly cooked, had a crunch too it and the pasta sauce was flavourless and tasted like just passata on its own. After complaining we were met with a very angry chef who got very close to my boyfriend in an aggressive manner. This was shocking and sad that as we complained about the quality of food we were made to feel that we were being unreasonable. The waiting staff were not supportive at all to us and we left without settleing the bill as the aggressive attitude we were faced with was absolutely shocking, confrontational and intimidating. Will not be going here again.
Very nice and friendly brasserie. Good choice of food including seafood which is nice to see.
Grazie Max great evening with friends and very food, particularly the calamari. We will be back. Salvo
All in all a slightly disappointing experience? One of our waiters seemed to want be anywhere other than there. Sprinkled Parmesan whilst leaning over peoples food and dropping it in our drinks as he did. The food was… okay? But for £19 I would expect something more robust when it came to the chicken Alfredo type dish. The Arancini was amazing though 10/10.There was a loud thumping noise like the people upstairs were playing the drums or something which wasn’t very conducive to a conversation and staff were having visible frustrations with each other which wasn’t great to whiteness. Not terrible but slightly expensive and not up-to expectations which was a shame. Look
Thank you Maximiliano. First class service.Great food. Lovely Italian red wine.
Amazing as always, staff food 100% until next time thanks max xxx
Best seafood pasta in town, highly recommended👍🏻
amazing food I have been coming here over eight years food is delicious what a fantastic Italian traditional restaurant the best one in Southampton
1st visit on a recommendation and wont be our last. Small, cosy with a great atmosphere. Staff attentive. Food amazing. I enjoyed the scallops to start and King prawn pasta. Others with us enjoyed the steak & lobster. Would highly recommend 😋👍
Went with my son after just doing a random search for nice restaurants nearby, really good food, typical Italian, sicilia service and chat, highly recommend and will definitely go back, nice menu.
This restaurant is small but well worth the visit, you have to book as its extremely busy. The food is excellent the wine was delicious. We met the owner and his wife who both work there, they are so friendly.
A very good meal was had here. Not your normal Italian restaurant with spaghetti bolonage, carbonara etc on the menu but very good authentic Italian cooking and very good house wine.
So we decided to come here to have a nice meal celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary and it did not disappoint!! Max and i fel bad he younger waitor were amazing, atentive, polite and friendly and welcoming. The restaurant is small but not crowded its got a romantic feel to it. The food ive got a soft spot for Italian food but his oh my was on another level. Seriously hats off to chef, you have definitely got repeat customers!! 5⭐ all day thank for a lovely night
Maxs Brasserie is simply one of the best places Ive ever dined. The wife and I had only the most wonderful time.
Lovely meal with friends. We’ve been to Max’s many times over the last few years and it’s always our go-to choice when we want a nice meal. Unfortunately this time the steak, ordered rare, was over cooked but this was rectified very quickly and the second one was perfect (unfortunately I didn’t get a picture of that one). Nice choices of wine. This place isn’t huge so make sure you book!Gluten free options are clearly marked on the menu.
Fantastic evening spent here last night with my daughters. Superb food and hospitality. Felt lovely and welcoming and Maxs is a very professionally run restaurant. Had a few glasses of grappa with Max at the end of the evening, we will be back soon for the Wine Tasting evening, cant wait.
Visited with my wife and parents. The food was divine with exceptional service. I currently have a bad back and they couldnt do more to be accommodating to make me comfortable. Even helped me pit my coat on. Would gladly visit again.
Friendly and prompt service. Not too noisy so a good location for a quiet chat over dinner. Small but well executed menu - good well presented dishes but very slightly bland in flavour. Seems to be very popular so booking probably necessary.
Went there and I asked for my food to be a take away ,. They said ok we can do that and I waited 120 min for the food to be ready., it was only three dishes I ordered ., finally came got the bag went home 30 min away looked in the bag half of the food was missing the other was wrong . Called the restaurant and they said we apologies please come back we will sort it . Came back and ended up with something completely different I asked the question why is this . They said people in the kitchen are not having their best time . I replied I heard the owner say to them no arguing just work but I didn’t get involved. Guys be careful there now that’s all I can say with out been negative about it., I won’t take my chances again.,
Delicious food and outstanding service. Waitress went beyond customer service I wanted a coffee after my meal and unfortunately theirs was broken however that didnt stop them she went across the rd and got me one . Unbelievable service
Absolutely fantastic food, lovely staff and fair price. This was our 1st visit and definitely wont be our last.
The best Italian Ive had in years! The staff are Amazing and there is nothing they wont do! You have to try this place. Food and cocktails are the best going! Try it, you wont be disappointed!
If we could give this restaurant 6/5 we would. Superb food, cooked beautifully, service great, good wine list, warm personal welcome, ask for a table in the back room unless sunny and warm. Booking essential.
Fantastic restaurant, lovely staff, great ambience and food flavours were perfect. Steak can be ordered safely here but the speciality, other than a range of Italian greats, is Lobster.
We had a lovely meal there tonight. The food was fabulous. Great atmosphere and service. Definitely recommend it.
We decided to come here for our belated 3 month anniversary dinner and I have not been to a restraunt thats been so welcoming in years. The moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome. We had a really friendly team serving us and they made the whole experience so superb. The food was excellent, my salmon pasta was beautiful and my girlfriends lobster was to die for. We were both so happy with our meals and dessert. Couple bottles of the house white helped the meal go down and it was just the most amazing evening. I couldnt recommend the place more if I was paid to, a real hidden gem in Southampton and we will be returning in the near future
Stunning food. We had the Swordfish pasta, baked monkfish, whitebait and tiramisu.Drinks were great, probably the best espresso martini Ive had.Very personable service. Please give these guys a visit!
Beautiful Italian restaurant with excellent authentic food, an incredible atmosphere and friendly staff. Max and his colleagues were extremely welcoming and made sure that every member of our party had a great time. By the far the best Italian in Southampton.
I had the most wonderful and tasty meal here. Staff were so friendly and welcoming. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, very warm and welcoming. Can not tell you how much I would recommend the risotto, truly the best Ive ever had. Will definitely be returning.
We really enjoyed eating at Max’s Brasserie. Food was delicious and if you are a wine lover there is a long list of Italian wine to choose from. We will definitely come back next time we will visit Southampton
The food is authentic, ingredients fresh and they pretty much get everything from Italy. The staff and owners are always involved, very passionate, personally attend to each and every patron who dines in to ensure everyone is enjoying their orders.Steak, wine and desserts are the best!
We ate lunch today at Maxs Brasserie... atmosphere is lovely, staff are wonderful and friendly. Excellent service, restaurant is clean and all food well presented. We had a small issue with one of our dishes, the waiter couldnt have been more helpful.... we have eaten here many times and always find it to be superb.
Lovely food, amazing service and atmosphere
Delicious food and wonderful personalised service. Staff couldn’t have been more polite or accommodating. Would recommend to anybody if they’re in the area and enjoy good Italian food.
Great evening celebrating sons 21st Lovely attentive staff and good Covid safety food good with lots of interesting fish recipes as well as vegetarian options
Pre booked a Wednesday lunch for me, my girlfriend, mum and Nan who is in a wheelchair, so we sat outside. Our starters: mushrooms, scallops, octopus, calamari all fresh and tasty.I had informed Max that we wanted lobster for mains. We had half a lobster each, loads of claw meat and lobster tail, and spaghetti which was delicious. For desert it was tiramisu and coffee along with cheese board.A couple of bottles of sparkling water, a recommended bottle of rose from Max, and some spirits and mixers.Total cost about £180, (£45 per headfor a relaxing 2.5 hour eatathon, which I felt was reasonable for the quality of food we enjoyed.Highly recommend visiting this exceptional restaurant, as Genaro is a great chef and the team are fantastic.
Great little restaurant and bar, with a nice atmosphere.
A superb Italian restaurant with an authentic home-cooked feel. Expertly hosted by Max himself, a larger than life character. Award winning monk fish and a selection of wines to die for. Been there four times in four weeks.
Beautiful Italian restaurant in Southampton, the owner is very kind, the location is small but very quiet and the atmosphere is relaxing. Good food choice with meat and fish dishes.
Great true Italian food, nice service, the only problem is that you sit outside the noise from the pub terrace next door is notable. I would however highly recommend, better than Oxford Brasserie.
Was a nice place food was very nice on the small side starters and main but was very tight in there to many chairs / tables so was difficult to to to the wash room
Had a really amazing dinner here with my friend. We each had three courses. I had fried mozarella, vegetarian gnocchi and ice cream. My friend had garlic bread, ravioli and tiramisu. We both thought the food was amazing and great value at £20 for three courses. The service was really amazing - the waiter was friendly and attentive despite having a massive group to serve. Will definitely come back and recommend it to other people.
First visit, for a family birthday celebration dinner. Tempted by excellent Internet reviews it was great to find the reality matched the high expectations. Friendly and efficient service and really high quality food. I would recommend choosing from the Specials Board: we enjoyed superb fillet steak, mussels and salmon/scallop risotto. In comparison the tapas selection was nothing to rave about, but wont stop us going back to Maxs for our next celebration dinner. Thank you Max!
The food is okay, nothing special. My pasta tasted dried pasta and the sauce was a step up from domino. The night was enjoyable until one of the waiters decided to verbally abuse some poor guy who was waiting sat patiently for a table. The waiter shouted at the man “stop being a baby”. The young well mannered man looked shocked as would I have been. It soured the atmosphere and I felt sorry for the young man and his partner who left crying.Treat customers better.
We stayed in Oxford Street night before cruise from Southampton and were delighted this restaurant was 50 yards from our hotel. We had a warm welcome and all the staff were friendly and the food heavenly. We had the sea bass and it was the best we have had in a long time. Excellent wine too.
