Mavoor Wetlands in Calicut

A nice location where you have a huge area of wetland which acts as a hub for birds. Early mornings and evenings are so nice, for birding it will be a nice place. People who are interested in enjoying natures beauty, it will be a good location, where you could enjoy some calmness..

It is a place to relax. Interestingly it is a field for the migrating birds

This is the place in which water stored. Earlier it is mud brick manufacturing unit and later after excavation of mud for making bricks it forms deep water reservoir. Eco friendly, calm and quiet place.Not tourist friendly. Water plants are there which makes rowing of boat impossible. But there is small fish catching "thony".

One can find true beauty of nature here. Low traffic path so one can ride through the road by experiencing cool breeze from the both side of the road. Both side we can see the vegitation. If you prefer a silent ride throught the road you should defenetly visit this place. Its a short path but you will get enough experience.

If I could describe this are with one word , the word would be wet , or land.

Its a beautiful place to go. I occasionally go here in the evening. Not so crowded. Totally worth it.

A wonderful wetland ecosystem created due to the implementation of kavanakkallu regulator cum bridge at Oorkkadav.Earlier this area was completely paddy fields.Extensive clay mining has been done here for the Calicut based Bricks and tiles factories, during the 1990s.Currently the wetland is a paradise of birds (Migratory as well as the local speciesand fresh water creatures.But there are very less conservatory actions taken for the protection of this biodiversity ecosystem.Many of the corners of this wetland ecosystem are filled by dumping concrete and rock wastes.

Mavoor wetlands is perfect place for evening relaxation . It’s a one line road passing through field which is filled with water. It is not government property .Also be a perfect place for fishing.

Before the construction of kavanakkallu regulator cum bridge farming and cultivation was done in this land. Later the land become muddy and named as wetland. Now this place is famous for migrant birds. Rare species of birds is the main attraction during the month of january. Good time to spend during evening. This place will gift good spot for photography and wonderful experience by bird watching.

Its a wonderful place for evening times. A total of 57 species ofbirds, belonging to 16 families were recorded from the area . Among them 17 species aremigrants. Highest number of birds was recorded in the month of January and the lowest was observed June.Little Egret, Little Cormorant, Purple Moorhen, Purple Heron, Black-crowned Night-Heron, Indian Pond-Heron,Little Grebe, Lesser Whistling-Duck, River Tern, Whiskered Tern, Garganey etc. were the most abundantresident and migrant species found in the Mavoor wetlands.Its a Nice place for time pass and photography.

We can see defferant varieties of rarest water birds

A place was formed by clay excavation, you can watch many vernacular birds here and some migratory birds also. And you should take extreme care while walking through this area, as the terrain is marshy and a lot of water is stored here. Seek local help if needed.

Good place for spending evening leisure times. Hub for a lot of immigrant birds, lots of fishing spots with great verity of fishes.
