This is a good place to eat and afordable.The Agua Frescas are so good!

This is the most disappointed Ive ever been in a restaurant. The only cheese we got in the order was nacho cheese that was really gross. And their chicharrones were just soggy bagged pork rinds. I wouldnt get the burritos if I were you.

In my opinion their food is good closer to 4 stars really but just not quite. Their drink selections are really refreshing. The wait times are a little lengthy. The restaurant is very clean and well kept! Overall Id say 3.9 stars 👍

Trash I don’t know if it’s only this location but the food quality has gone down me and my husband went here for dinner and spent $70 on food that was subpar honestly. I was really disappointed in the lack of toppings on our food when speaking to the woman she asked if I wanted guacamole sour cream and pico de gallo I told her yes on all of my food yet it seem like there was only cilantro and onion on everything I ordered a burrito and it wasn’t even rolled up properly it was Thrown in the wrapper like a big taco The drinks were warm and there wasn’t any ice in them I will never eat at Mateo’s again it used to be a place where we could go and get something really delicious and it was a treat for my family but it’s not even worth it to go if you want real good Mexican food go to Miguels on Solano by the sonic in the parking lot of the WIC office their food is awesome and the service is great. this happened about a week ago but it’s bothering me so much I decided to just write the review

Only thing good was the drink if you want authentic Mexican food this is not the place . No kid friendly menu.

The most disgusting place. Not only was my chicken gross but tasted and looked like 3 day old chicken but the “sour cream” was hard and dry. Never again.

Customer service was great and the food looked good , but the food was very bland it had no flavor whatsoever. The guacamole was just the kind you can buy at a grocery store (the squeeze bottles). Way over priced for the quality of food.

Everything was awesome!! Great food and the best customer service. Michelle was wonderful and made us feel right at home!

They are super nice but forgot I said no guacamole…definitely can’t eat that without dying but it’s okay!

Review from last night missing? Horrible customer service repeatedly. Staff will not take a phone order 30 min prior to closing but they will inform you to drive in and place it. OWNER: why pay costs of operations and labor from 8:30 to 9 if you don’t want to sell food during that time. Either the staff is lazy or management or both.

Huge order taken over the phone. Pre paid because it was so big. Get there at the time it was supposed to be ready. Its not even close. Ordered 5 drinks. Thought well since Im on time, and youre late, sure Ill get complimentary something while Im waiting. 15mins later nothing. Then everything comes out bagged up. Drive home and half the stuff is wrong. Like way wrong. Missing added items. Paid extras not added. Enchiladas are not rolled. Guacamole is a waste, completely flavorless, overmixed. Added extra large and didnt get the chips too. Theres got to be better. If youre a starving student get a burrito, it will be ok. Anyone else, look elsewhere for food. Their drinks are the only redemption point.

We werent really hungry so I shared an order of fries and the cheese quesadilla with my wife and son. The quesadilla had chicken and lettuce inside and came with a small cup of spicy sauce. The fries came with browned hamburger crumbles then drizzled with cheese, sour cream, and guacamole.Out of all that, the only thing with any taste was the spicy sauce. The chicken in the quesadilla tasted as if it was just grilled breasts, lacking any additional flavoring, and the cheese and lettuce didnt add anything either. The fries werent salty, but the browned hamburger didnt seem to have anything added to it either. And the cheese on the fries reminded me of the type that theatres serve with their "cheese and nacho chips" which was tasteless also. The guacamole had a slight bit of flavor but not enough to save the rest of them plate.This was our first time at Matteos, were visiting from Nebraska so well keep looking for a good local Mexican restaurant.

If youre looking for a good place to eat look no further than Matteos order anything from the me menu and itll be delicious dont forget their agua frescas I highly recommend this place

The food here is really good!!! Granted, I normally get the Asada quesadilla and sometimes the carne asada fries.The Argua frescas are super good. I recommend trying the blue frost which is the blue ocean mixed with horchata! 🤤 it’s so good! Sometimes they even have seasonal drinks. I recommend the pumpkin spice one during the fall.The service here is really good as well. The people are really nice and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to have some Mexican food.

This place always was a little more expensive but worth it. I ordered a carne asad torta and it was excellent. The meat was well cured with no fat and the bread was fresh and tasty. They are more expensive cause they use fresh ingredients!

Very friendly people clean restaurant but burritos have more tortilla then meat. Like most places portions are smaller and prices are higher.

Disappointing service and food. I have been back several times and have never been satisfied by the service and how they mess up orders. They only want to offer a store credit so you can go back and have them do it again.

First time. Hubby had the brisket quesadilla and I had the chile verde plate. VERY good.

I Loved the service! The food was great. I can tell they have a great cook. My chicken gorditas were excellent and My husband loved his carne asada gorditas.

Food is not good, carne asada fries are just ground beef, not actual asada. Seasoning was non existent. The three stars are for the staff.

I’m new to NM food but Iv had a few ok experiences. This place knocked the socks of the other restaurants Iv tried in town. The servers explained everything to me, gave me some samples aqua Fresca and then talked me through the food options. Great food. Great service. Will be back again

Dining area was clean, staff were very friendly and professional, food looked amazing... All the makings of a great restaurant! But the food had zero flavor. As in absolutely zero. None. It was like eating textured water. I had to go eat something else after to make sure it wasnt just me. It wasnt.

Service was very friendly and the restaurant looked clean. Food however was soooooo disappointing. Matteo’s was much better as a taco truck. I’m not sure if it’s just this location, but I probably won’t be visiting any of their locations ever again.

This place is most definitely subpar for gluten-free vegetarians. I’ve eaten here a couple of times and both times I thought I should have just gone to chipotle. Their beans and rice lack flavor, they have no alternatives for meat and nothing for someone who has to avoid gluten. Overall, I won’t be back

I love matteos. Theyre food is great! But they have messed up my mobile order EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Wrong items or missing items every time, with no real way to leave feedback other than this.

Delicious food! Very nice portions and great green chile! Friendly staff and very efficient service. This has quickly become our go-to favorite for Mexican food in Las Cruces.

The food was excellent and the service outstanding. I had never been there so took recommendations from Lesley. She was spot on in the choices. The authentic Mexican drinks were very good. If I am ever in this area again, I will definitely come here!

This place was a ghost town for Valentine’s day. Stopped in, saw it was deserted, the girls at the front counter were on phones, too busy to be bothered with walk-ins, so we opted not to eat here. The dining room was open and large, more like a fast food place. We were looking for ambiance. Cannot comment on the food, other reviews say its good and it really did look good! Sorry we missed out. No greeting until we started to walk out. No thank you.

The cucumber drink I had ordered tasted too minty. I took two sips and I couldnt finish it. The burrito presentation was lazy. Both ends of the tortilla where open. I had to re-wrap the burrito so the ingredients dont fall out. I also didnt like the way they presented their tacos. It looks like a big mess with tortillas at the bottom. its a little annoying. The only good thing I can say is the service was nice and the girls are pretty.

Grabbed a Philly torta from them and decided to share with my hubby .. the fries had no salt what do ever and there’s were very little meat it was more vegetable than anything…

The food is great, the flautas are amazing. Their carne asada fries are great too (they could use some more meatvery authentic Mexican flavor indeed. My only complaint is the salsa they serve. It tastes good but I would like to see a traditional green salsa and a traditional northern Mexican style red salsa as most traditional restaurants would have. Not having these just takes away from the traditional flavor that we are all used to.

Well I got my daily intake of water just from my burrito I got from here. It was soaked and dripping water all over me. Very soggy but I was so hungry I ate it anyway. My fries were also very soggy and cold. Only reason I gave it 3 stars is for the friendly staff and very neat place. Ill give it a second chance someday. Maybe it was just a bad day for the cook.

Weve been wanting to try this place for so long. The first thing you notice when you walk in, is the aguas have no ice to keep them cold. So we skipped the aguas. We ordered two plates, the brisket fries and the smothered burrito. It took awhile, and the girls upfront werent the friendliest, but we still had high hopes for the food. As soon as I opened the bag, the smell was disgusting. Still we tried the food, but after one bite we tossed almost 30 dollars in the trash. The meat barely filled the burrito, but that wasnt as bad as the taste. Something was seriously wrong with the food. Very disappointed overall.

Great food and service! This was our first time here so we had the asada, chicken, and brisket tacos with a watermelon Fresca and nitro cold brew. Everything was amazing, we’ll definitely be back!

Delicious. ALWAYS SO delicious. Amazing menu options and the drinks are unique and tasteful each in their own ways. If I had to be super picky, the only bad thing is that they wrap the food in paper and some feel like I take more time unwrapping or moving the paper than I spend time eating the actual food.

First time here. We were in town for work and just saw the signage on the building so we decided to eat here. What amazing food. The drinks are great! Prices seemed a little high but over we were very happy.

Pros: convenient location, a few interesting menu itemsCons: dont call it a burrito in New Mexico if you dont even wrap either end (photo), very small portion on the keto plate, menu items that they are out are not noted so you decide while you are in line that you want something then get up to the front and have to quickly pick something else, cucumber limeade doesnt taste like lime at all only cucumber.Weve been here twice, probably wont be back.

I ate at Mateos on Main on Saturday and had the best tacos in the world 🌎. Brisket!! Melody and her family are on to something great. This evening I ordered a chicken bowlDisappointing. Well its definitely delicious and great service. Be prepared to wait and my only complaint is the tortilla broke apart thats why traditional style street tacos have 2 tortillas and they were a bit 2 greasy for my taste. Salsas were also fire!

Delicious had the chicken flautas, green chicken enchiladas and ham torta wirh my family their waters are their specialty tried the aggie with horchata and it tasted like cherry cheesecake 😋 highly recommended

I expected more from the Carne Asada fries, haha probably couldve got better ones from Federicos.I had to ask for Lettuce and Salsa, it was bland.Sure, the Aguas were semi good but the blue one was unnecessarily sweet.

Everyone talks about this place and it is good but my chicken was VERY salty. My wife got the Asada fries and they were good but needed salsa or chili which wasn’t included. Drinks are pricey which is typical at most restaurants. I’ll go back to try other items to support a local business. First time here and customer service was good.

The food was aaamazing! We got the chicken flauta plate and carne asada plate. Great flavor and price! The inside is very clean and the staff is very friendly! The pepino water is a must awhile you wait!

The taco bread was placed at the bottom and the chicken, lettuce and tomatoes were placed on top. Soaked the bread and was unusable. So I got a chicken salad instead.Chicken was cold and flavorless. Everything else was just meh. I heard good things about Matteo’s but my experience was not good. I wont be coming back.

There is very many restaurants in Las cruces that serve Mexican food; However matteos delivers an absolutely amazing experience to this town. The menu here allows you too choose from a variety of great tasting Mexican plates. The food here is always great no matter what you get as well as the drinks served. The service here is outstanding, they are very nice and extremely helpful and most of the time have my food out quickly. So far I have not had any problems here and I plan to return on a regular basis. For anyone looking for a great meal I reccomend matteos!

So Ive known about this place since it was just a food truck because my friends would always joke about it since we have the same name. This was my first visit to here. We went around noon, so there was definitely a slight rush. It seemed like everyone but my friend and I were able to order drinks before they got to the register. I saw a lot of people getting asked if they wanted a sample, and even though I had said it was my first time, I was not offered a sample. I blindly ordered one of the agua frescas only because it was the one my friend ordered. I got the coconut berry acai fresca and it wasnt too bad but it honestly wasnt the best Ive had. Kind of over priced as well for so little drink. I dont know if they would, but maybe try asking for little or no ice so that way the price is somewhat worth it. Or if they offered a discounted refill. On to the food, I ordered the chicken torta. It had tomatoes, lettuce and guac. The bread was kind of soggy/too soft for my taste. I wish they would have toasted the bread a little, that way to prevent so much sogginess. Other than that, the chicken was good and the salsa was spicy, which I like. Overall the price of the experience wasnt too bad but there are plenty of Mexican restaurants in this town where you could get the same or better experience for the price.

I’m from El Paso, & heard about this place & the rave reviews & I was disappointed! For the prices they’re charging, it should at least come on a plate. & $6 for an agua fresca?! I think they’re able to get away with those prices because in cruces, there’s no other place that serves a variety of agua frescas, unlike here in EP (el super, vista market, etc.It’s not really “authentic mexican” either, more like a fusion of traditional & american modern food.

Really great addition to restaurants on University Ave. Matteos serves delicious Mexican food at reasonable prices. Their agua frescas are the best in town. The carne asada burritos and tacos are delicious. The service was great, staff is friendly and our order was out really quick during their lunch rush. They have expanded their menu from their food truck days. Definitely recommend this food and their Blue Ocean drink.
